I loved everything about this small, yet big-hearted hotel. Mid century decor, a large window with garden and pool view, a kitchenette, lots of closet room, lights, AC, fan, etc....would have never guessed that beyond the tall bushed fencing, there is a life. Despite the rain we encountered on our first day, it did not stop us from enjoying the garden, the pool, its beautiful flowers throughout the hotel and humming birds all over to keep you at awe. Friendly hummingbirds, I must say. Wait til you meet George (purple chest), the approachable one. One of my best friends had chosen this hotel for our birthday trip. A trip we've planned for about a year. She and her husband have frequent this hotel in the past decade and have raved about how wonderful this place was. The pictures she had originally sent us didn't quite describe that only 10 rooms were available at this hotel. Maybe I wasn't paying attention, but I was immediately captivated. The hotel was private, adults only, serene, calm, and peaceful. Usually the opposite of what I frequent on my choice of hotels/resorts. All staff were friendly, welcoming and accommodating! Big thanks to I had a great experience at this hotel. It was actually enlightening. I plan to return

I loved staying at the Desert Riviera! It reminds me of a good mix between a hotel and an AirBnB where you have a hotel front desk for all your arrangements, yet your room (all 12 rooms are!) is steps away from a quiet "backyard" with a pool next to firepits, an outdoor BBQ, and a pizza oven. Highlights of what's complimentary: - Have hummingbirds fly into your hand when holding feed - 24/7 access to a 92-degree heated pool and a jacuzzi - Two fire pits & a popcorn machine - 24/7 access to snacks (boiled eggs, fruit, milk, juices, yogurt, granola bars) plus a welcome basket of snacks - Board games (Yahtzee, Scrabble, trivia, etc.), cornhole, bikes, and books/magazines galore We brought supplies to make s'mores each night at the fire pit (they have skewers and hot cocoa!) and they also made us pizza one lunch ($15) directly from their pizza stone. I loved spending half the time exploring Palm Springs and the other half relaxing and partaking in the hotel's offerings. They have off-street parking and the Kingside Poolside room has a separate kitchenette (and there's an on-site shared kitchen) and two walk-in closets. Plenty of space and plenty of activities to keep you busy. It's adults-only, so expect peacefulness as a couples getaway or grab a group of friends/family and enjoy the space!

Not only was this resort gorgeous, clean and inviting, but the service was top notch. From check in at the lobby the wait staff in both restaurants, the pool attendees and maintenance staff, everyone went out of their way to make our stay perfect. Can't wait to come back!

Another wonderful stay at this place as we came back again for the annual Tour de Palm Springs Bike Ride, to celebrate my birthday, and Valentine's. It's not a big place and children are not allowed but because of this, I love the privacy and quietness feel once you're in the courtyard. I appreciate their continental breakfast food which is available every morning , and throughout the day, access to a fully-equipped kitchen and my ultimate favorite, the Super Bowl BBQ. It's very nice to share a meal and enjoy the game with all the other guests staying here. The only recommendation I have for management is to please have the jacuzzi and pool deep cleaned . I was very disappointed that the jacuzzi had algae all around and the pool had debris everywhere as well. I look forward to a relaxing time in jacuzzi and pool after our long bike ride and daily hikes. Other than that, I highly recommend this place for a relaxing stay in Palm Springs.

Nice view of mountains behind the nice pool

This is a great little boutique hotel, particularly for people like my wife and me who like peace and quiet. I think it's adults only, first of all, so that is a plus for us. But there are a lot of things to like about this place besides the peace and quiet. It's right off the main road (I think Palm Canyon Drive or something) but still quiet and residential in feel. It's got a nice swimming pool, hummingbirds that will feed right off your hand, all the pool accessories, PLENTY of food choices (meaning both breakfast and snacks), and get this - a pizza oven (pizzas in the freezer, you cook your own). That was a really nice touch, let alone having gluten-free pizza as an option. We had the GF pizza and it really was QUITE good. The room was great, I really loved the original tile, TV worked great, nice little kitchenette (we had a specific room type that included the kitchenette, in the corner room) that had everything you'd need even including a toaster. Service was great, too. Really happy that the room was even ready a little early, as we'd arrived earlier than expected. Missy (I think that's her name?) gave me a great tour of the property on my arrival, which was really helpful. This hotel achieves the perfect balance of classic older Palm Springs (older in architecture/design/PS vibe) with modern amenities (I really liked the bathroom fixtures), comfortable bed, nice living room area with couch, huge closet, and (in our case) nice kitchenette. Add the nice extras - no children, relaxing vibe, pool, food, and great service - and you've got a winner. We had one minor issue that was not the hotel's fault, the people next door were constantly going in and out of their room (from room to pool back to room) so the door kept opening and closing so it was just a little irritating in terms of the noise (they could have just left their door open if they expected to go back and forth that much). Not going to hold that against the hotel, and would definitely return to this little gem.

so nice to finally GET here!

My work as a live announcer has taken me to many fine hotels across this great land and beyond. The Desert Riv' has them all beat. Because... The countless cool amenities - many unexpected. The A+/5 Star Service and genuinely happy attention. The thoughtful aesthetic beauty of this tiny off-the-beaten-path gem. The comfortable and smashingly-appointed MCM rooms nodding to the groovier times past (with things like a conversation firepit and a pizza oven) but firmly planted with contemporary luxuries. It really doesn't get any better...right down to the Aromatherapy vitamin-infused shower heads. Let me put it this way; for those weekends we wanna be in Palm Springs, it is imperative that we book a year in advance...you snooze, you lose. That's what happens when you're the best. Part of that "best" is The Riv' has only 10 rooms. You'll find no kids here. No pets. No drama. And then there's the clientéle. Most of us have been coming here for years, and we know The Vibe - know how to let it happen and RELAX like a boss. You might be on the road looking for a place to drop your bags and crash for the night but, straight up, you'll miss it if you do. This is where you come to UNWIND - and it takes a minute to get there. Bring a book. Settle in. And may The Riv' be with you.

It doesn't get any better than this when it comes to getting the superstar treatment. Spent an extended weekend here last month and so this review is highly due! Every staff member in this place greeted us with a smile and genuine courtesy. The facility is clean, well maintained & lush. The entire compound is encased in tall hedges, adding to the sense of the perfect, quiet, desert getaway! All in all, our stay was wonderful and I'm definitely going back. Make sure you book your dates WAY AHEAD of time, because this place sells out fast!

    The best pool ever

We booked the hotel based on the positive reviews. It is a small boutique hotel with them of the 1950s. It is a small drive from the center of downtown. Our room was spacious clean. All rooms aound the pool. The pool was clean, nice and it so romantic at night by putting out small candles. Just relaxing by the pool and having the mountain as the background is astonishing. The breakfast was ok, " just bagels, cheese and boiled eggs". But they offer unlimited soft drinks and. They offer of charge bicycles to use and explore the city. Sometimes it may get noisy by the pool since it is a small place depending on the residents at the moment. Finally the staff were super nice and helpful. I think it is a perfect place for group of couples.

We loved this place! First the staff is excellent. Next it is a special place. There are old time (50's) pictures in each room. Think Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra. This a vintage feeling wonderful place. It is exceptionally clean and well kept. The pool , spa, fire pits, lounge chairs put you in the mood. They are sister hotels with the Hotel California so we had a massage there. It was Valentines Day and they surprised us with Chocolates! Also, when arriving they offer a well wanted adult beverage. It is so much nicer to stay at a lodging with personality rather than pay the same for an ordinary chain hotel. They have a full kitchen outside with commercial Bbq, pizza oven, etc. Rooms also have either mini eating areas or the suites have full kitchens. If you get lucky, you can hand feed the hummingbirds!

Thank you, Ashley, Misty and Allie! Exactly the getaway experience we needed at the Desert Riviera!

Stellar experience for my husband's 50th birthday, as we were looking for a few days of relaxation and easy fun in Palm Springs. Now, we are lifetime Platinum Marriott people who rarely deviate from Marriott because of all the perks we get. For this birthday surprise, my husband wanted to go quaint and boutique, to avoid crowds for our getaway. I researched extensively and finally chose the Desert Riviera, having never seen nor stayed there before. As it turned out, this place was everything I'd hoped for and more! Our room was full-blown decorated with streamers, balloons, and a bottle of bubbly on ice when we arrived. They picked up a birthday cake (our choice of chocolate raspberry was divine!) from a local bakery and had it decked out with birthday candles on a cake stand! Needless to say, I got lots of kudos for setting up a perfect birthday getaway that made my guy feel pretty damn special. The property is fabulously decorated and maintained, with countless little indulgences and thoughtful amenities. The staff (all masked), were on-point all day and night, lighting fire pits, wiping down surfaces, and taking care of their guests with special care. We really felt taken care of and free to enjoy ourselves. Highlights include the excellent playlist of classic, chill tunes, a two-person hammock shaded by palm trees (my fave), perfectly heated pool, lovely jacuzzi alcove, awesome fire pits to hang out, hummingbirds all around the landscaping, great WiFi throughout and bikes for guests (we particularly enjoyed taking the tandem bike to explore the area). We can't say enough about the Desert Riviera and the amazing team who made our stay and our birthday celebration such a special and memorable time. Special thanks to Ashley, Misty and Allie for the warm reception, the excellent service, and the many reasons to come back. Especially during COVID, treatment and service from the Desert Riviera is what will keep people (including us!) coming back. The team here definitely gets it, and we have been so impressed with the next-level vacation experience they've created. Thank you!!

    The place to be.

The property is small but quite nice. I grew up in San Diego and we had a second house in Indian Wells so I used to come out to this area often growing up and it's good to be back in a comfortable setting. I would say that the Ritz Carlton is probably the best hotel in the Coachella Valley given that there are very few other five star options. It's located in Rancho Mirage pretty much right in between Palm Springs and Palm Desert. It's located on the top of a large hill so it has great views of the valley. They have a steakhouse on site called The Edge, which has it selling feature being these views and the great steak. The hotel is not extremely large. It only is three floors, but it's a perfect size in that it doesn't seem too large or too busy ever. We chose the club lounge which allowed us to have free food and drink pretty much all day and they did a great job with adding new options to the menu. There is not an on-site parking lot so it will be valet parking only. The rooms themselves are well done and large with a full tub and shower and comfortable beds. Room service is also really good and the whole resort really lives up to the Ritz Carlton standard. I would definitely recommend if you are visiting the desert and I will be back again in the future.

The view from the property is spectacular! My family really was surprised at night that there was a star watch around the pool. We were able to see through the huge telescopes two distant stars. What a great treat. We all did enjoy the shops there at the resort. They had a great attire for the entire family. Dad found a wonderful shirt and our toddler found the cutest swim shorts. We don't like to do so far. This one is the best Ritz in terms of on site shopping. Overall, our family had a five star one experience at this property. So wonderful that I am very sure we will be booking more visits through the year.I cannot tell you enough how nice, accommodating and friendly staff is here at the property. If you have fur babies go ahead and bring them along ..this property is dog friendly! Our two Frenchies really enjoyed their time here.. being spoiled by the staff. They give water bowls and dog treats. There are many dogs in the property during our visit. Each of them were also happy to be able to socialize with their families as we could tell. If you can't tell...I Love the Ritz Rancho Mirage.

The two ceilings lights either flickered or did not turn on at all. The room was pitch black until we PLUGGED IN the closet lamp. 2. The bathtub was not clean, there were hairs. Bathtub was paint was chipped and the faucet was leaking as well. 3. The kitchen utensils were not clean. Forks, glasses and even the roll of paper towels were found dirty or used. The extra rolls under the sink were unwrapped. When coming to our room a few hours after check in, calling customer service (calling three times) took more than an hour, just for us to be told that the lighting and cleanliness issues will be solved in the morning. Was really looking forward to the experience but upon our first few hours, we felt unwelcome, uncomfortable and turned off of our whole stay. Especially when faced with the lack of cleanliness in the restroom, if our bathtub could be so apparently dirty, what else could they have missed? We were forced to spend the first few hours fixing up our room before starting to feel comfortable. This meant scrubbing the bathtub, washing every dish and checking every surface. With the lengthy and detailed check in process, we were really expecting a quality, travel worthy experience. Instead, it felt we were greeted with an unclean, uncomfortable welcome. As guests, it was made obvious to us that customer service was not at the forefront of our experience. Having decentralized customer service (through phone numbers and apps) made us feel so unattached from the actual experience.

We've been to Palm Springs a few times, but this was our first time actually staying right in…read moredowntown. The Kimpton Rowan definitely spoiled us with the location. Shops, restaurants, museums and other sights are all within easy walking distance. It's even directly across from the Forever Marilyn statue. We've stayed at several IHG properties before, and when we choose one, it's usually an InterCon rather than a Kimpton. So this was our first time staying at a Kimpton. I had wanted to try one as an Ambassador before Kimpton was removed from the eligible hotel list, but we finally got our chance. Perhaps because it's Palm Springs, the hotel feels small, or maybe it really is small. I'll admit I don't know much about art, but walking around almost felt like being inside a mini museum. I really liked the styling. It made the place feel warm, welcoming and full of character, rather than another bland corporate hotel to spend the night. Our room was upgraded to a mountain/valley view with a balcony. The beds and pillows may not be the best we've experienced, but they were comfortable enough that staying in bed all day sounded very tempting, especially with the hellish Palm Springs summer outside. Unfortunately, the heat defeated our plans to try the rooftop pool. We ended up retreating to the cool and comfortable room instead. Perhaps next time around, preferably when Palm Springs isn't trying to roast us alive. My wife and kids absolutely loved the robes. The texture gave them a nice touch of comfortable luxury. The bathroom design, though, still had me scratching my head. The shower and toilet were basically in clear view of each other. LOL. Not a deal breaker at all, just an interesting design choice. The front desk staff were warm and helpful throughout our stay. My apologies for not remembering any names since my brain was already cooked by the heat, but Kudos to everyone. They also gave us a 1:00pm late checkout on a Saturday, which we really appreciated. All in all, we really enjoyed our first stay at a/the Kimpton Rowan. We would definitely come back.

This place is a true gem, maybe a hidden gem due to the negative reviews as of lately…read more My husband and I booked this place for a quick weekend getaway. I was a little scared when I read that most of the recent reviews were negative. I was thinking "oh no! What did I get us into." This place is a blast from the past. The decor is that of a mid century modern and is a really cozy quadrangle set up. The interior feels homey and the property is set up like an air bnb with shared amenities. They play 1950s music all day on speakers throughout the complex, it creates that vintage feel but can get repetitive after a few days. Lounge with tables, board games, travel brochures, couches, fire place, coffee and tea, and industrial kitchen for use during your stay. (Old reviews mention happy hour, breakfast, snacks, etc. these are no longer offered but why not just bring your own?) Each room has microwave and mini fridge. Outdoor gas fire pit for use. The pool is small but has a deep end 8ft which is nice. There are pool noodles and some tubes to use. The hot tub is spacious and powerful jets. We stayed in the Hawaiian surf room, loved the theme it was so cute and felt like a tropical getaway. The shower is small but functional. Good AC unit with a remote control and ceiling fan. Surfboard coffee table and wicker love seat add to the tropical feel. Overall this was a nice private getaway. You can be left alone to relax! If you need anything you can text the hotel and someone replies super quick in my experience. The hotel feels very secure with codes needed to enter the complex and security cameras at the entrance and surrounding the complex. (Probably for management to check and make sure everything is running smoothly). I would stay here again in a heartbeat and I have stayed at a few different boutique hotels in the area. This would be a top choice! Please realize this is an older complex and it does show some wear and tear but come on the building is probably 100 years old or somewhere close to that. If you are expecting a sterile, high end, resort feel for your stay this is not your place... but otherwise this is a great choice! I couldn't help but feel bad for the owners with all of the really bad reviews on here because that was truly not my experience. I left off one star because there are definitely areas of improvement that could be made but not enough to ruin my experience.

There are 10 rooms available and each one is a different theme in the 1950s. I stayed for two nights in the Crooners room and I enjoyed my stay a lot. When I arrived, Tim, the inn keeper assisted me with my room keys and showing me around the property. My room was decorated with the Rat Pack and I loved it. All rooms are a maximum of two people with a hot tub, refrigerator with water, microwave, and coffee maker, air conditioning, and DVD player. If you'd like, bring a DVD and popcorn to enjoy during your stay. The bed was pretty comfortable. There were more than enough pillows which I'm guilty of using more than one pillow while I sleep. I love how the comforter was linen on the outside, but cozy and warm on the inside. The Crooners room has two sinks, but I only used one. There is happy hour everyday at 5pm by the pool or communal area with snacks and beer or wine. During my stay there were chips and salsa and the following day was veggies with dip, with of course a drink of choice. Really nice touch added to my stay. It's been a while since I have stayed in a bed and breakfast and I love the homeyness here. Breakfast is served in the communal dining area with hand sanitizer provided. The three-course breakfast starts with a fruit smoothie, a fruit parfait and a hot breakfast. For breakfast they served blueberry pancakes with sausage and the following day it was quiche with artichoke hearts and potatoes. I loved the service here so much. You sit at a table and they serve the food to you. The pool is open 24 hours will pool floaties available to use as well. Another thing I like about this place is that because there aren't many people (max 40 people at a time) it is highly likely you will get the pool to yourself. When I checked out and left the property I told my husband I would enjoy staying here again. I really enjoyed my stay here and highly recommend you stay here too.
