Great place to stay for a weekend getaway. They have so many amenities and it's very safe and clean. The jacuzzi is pretty small but they have a heated pool to hang out in. Plenty of great food options nearby. No issues with checking in as others have said. Would definitely stay here for coachella weekend if it wasn't booked out!

The Monkey Tree Hotel is a monkey-free hotel. There aren't any monkey themed rooms or paraphernalia. The only monkeys are the luggage trolley's wood monkey cutout and the beaded monkey in the Jungle Room. I stayed here for a couple of nights while in town for work. The location was perfect. It's close to downtown so Uber rides were inexpensive. And it was far enough away so I was able to sleep without loud noises at night. The vintage mid-century design of the hotel and rooms are adorable. There are only 16 rooms so the hotel can get sold out quickly. My room (#5), a junior suite was spacious and had a super comfy California King bed, love seat sofa, dining table, and kitchenette with sink, mini-fridge, microwave, and oven. The pool is the best feature. The sitting shelf is the perfect depth to sit, have a drink, and catch a tan while staying cool and partially submerged in the water. Because the hotel is adults only relaxing poolside is quiet and serene. Continental breakfast of hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, granola, muffins (made by the owner), breads, and fruit is included. Parking is free and there isn't a resort fee. So staying here is a good value. As a solo female traveler, I appreciated that the hotel only lets registered guests on the property. Fun fact: President John F. Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe had a tryst in room #15.

This is where the door caught the side of my finger and fingernail.

I really wanted to like this place. Adult only and many great reviews. We checked out of the hotel about 15 minutes after checking in. Making a trip out to the car my finger was caught in an overly-aggressive front door. There was no staff onsite so I called hotels.com. They reached out to the hotel mgmt who would not refund us since we were leaving and had non-cancelable reservations. Naturally, we did not think that would extend to being injured on site. This also required a trip to urgent care since I was unable to move my finger. The other issue I had was AFTER the reservation was made and paid for through hotels.com I received an email from Avant, a 3rd-party property manager. I had to sign a lengthy document filled with legalese to complete the reservation. During the short time we were there the amount of deferred maintenance was glaring.

This 17-room hotel is run like an AirBnB. You'll need to download an app, then use the codes provided to enter the front gate and unlock your room. We had no issues whatsoever, but if you prefer more interaction and a front desk that is manned 24/7, this may not be the right place for you. We loved the mid-century decor, and with the property being so small we usually had the pool and hot tub all to ourselves. There are bikes you can borrow, pool floats, a fire pit, cornhole, board games and books to use in the lounge or take back to your room, gifts inside the room like a tote bag, baseball caps, and snacks, free parking and wifi, and yes it's pet-friendly. The kitchenette had everything you need to make breakfast or cocktails. My photos are of Room 11.

Favorite part of the hotel? Well, the lounge area with a funky red rock covered gas fireplace and curved lounging couch where there are local area books, microwave, large table, and small tables (no free breakfast though.) Second favorite part: the pool area! They had piped in 60s music, floaty tubes, and comfy lounging chairs. Our room #5 was big with a king sized bed, coffee table with chairs, makeup chair and mirror, small fridge, microwave, coffee maker, electric burner stove, and all the dishes and implements (and cream, sugar and to go cups) to cook and drink coffee. The bathroom had a dryer, makeup towels, hand soap and small rosevscented shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. There were two nice ladies who work 9-6, (there was a grumpy guy at night.) The First Lady actually ran to the store and bought me decaf coffee when I asked to trade out the caffeinated coffee for decaf. She also brought a 20-something man to help us with the TV so we could get the Super Bowl game. True, the parking lot is small, there's not a ton of electric plug-ins in the exact perfect place but you can make it work, It is in on a flight plan and you will know the flight schedule (starting at 6:05 AM) and you may be a little annoyed like we were at the fact that you have to do a facial scan and provide a drivers license (but they will take a scan of your drivers license and a selfie instead.) It's about 8 minutes from downtown. Did Marilyn Monroe and JFK have a tryst in #15? Do you own research...

What a great little boutique hotel. The rooms were nice. You even have three pillow choices. Came with a little complimentary snack bag upon arrival. The grounds are well kept. There are sodas in a fridge for your pleasure while you hang in the pool, complimentary happy hour and all the food is homemade for your complimentary breakfast....even the bread! Note, no one but guests are allowed on the property. There is one massage company that is allowed if arranged to have a massage in your room (Grounded Bodyworks). There is no iron in the room. Maybe at front desk but we didn't ask. You should bring slippers to walk on room with as the floor can get cold (we just went so chilly nights). No thong bikinis are allowed so they want modest coverage there. They do have a cold jacuzzi a hot jacuzzi and sauna and a lap pool you tether yourself in to swim. At night they light the fire pit and quite time is after 10. The food is little finger things. It so delicious and we ate enough along with fruit and yogurt to fill us up before our hike. All in all a great experience. I especially like that the whole wall is glass with a film so as long as the sun is out you can't see in the room. My only con is the bed was too bouncy ay least in room 6. Whenever my husband rolled over I would bounce away like those kids bouncy houses. Also it was very squeaky. Despite that one hiccup we will definitely be back.

Pool view from my room, neat ambience all around.

2 day stay, The host was very welcoming. If your looking for a 60's vibe..stay here. From the entrance to the lobby to my chic retro designed room made the experience fun! The right amount of privacy, great hotel.

Had the best time here! My boyfriend and I only stayed for one night and we wish we could have stayed longer. Our entire experience was effortless, fun, and welcoming right from the beginning. You can really tell the employees enjoy what they're doing & are more than happy to cater to your needs. We stayed in the "Jungle Room" and it was so beautiful. We plan to stay at this hotel again to try to check out the other rooms, but I have a feeling we're gonna end up staying in this same room again. The atmosphere is unique & very exclusive. You get a private patio, working AC, couch for lounging, a mini fridge/freezer, cable TV & so much more. The details of this room ties the experience altogether & makes for such a picturesque room at every corner! The bathroom is unlike anything I've ever seen before as it is a full walk-in glass wall shower. The glass wall outlooks the private patio & it makes for a pleasant shower. The bed wasn't the softest thing, but we still knocked out for the entire night! I wouldn't change a single thing about this room. Complimentary continental breakfast is homemade by one of the owners which makes you feel oh so special. Pleasant dining experience in their little lounge with good music & diverse food options. Their salt water pool was so fun for us to enjoy as it ranged from 3ft-7ft with tons of pool toys and floaties! They also put out free sangria and lemonade with a fully stocked smeg fridge at 4pm daily, making our pool time that much more fun. There was also a sauna, a jacuzzi, a cold plunge, and a bonfire pit. Just like the room we stayed in, every corner was well-furnished & so picturesque. Everything is fun to look at & is an amazing way to really unplug from your typical routine. I would recommend this hotel to anyone in the Palm Springs area. It is a MUST see! There is so much more that I didn't mention that we didn't get a chance to experience, so I guess we'll be back :) P.S. Book the in-room massages. You won't regret it.

From the moment we arrived, though, La Serena Villas made us feel completely at ease. The customer service was truly impeccable from check-in to check-out. Every staff member we interacted with was incredibly kind, welcoming, and genuinely pleasant to work with. When we arrived, we were immediately offered a prickly pear champagne beverage. After I mentioned that I'm allergic to alcohol, the staff instantly offered me a lavender lemonade instead without missing a beat. I'm usually not a fan of lavender-flavored drinks at all, but this one was so surprisingly delicious that when I checked out, I actually asked if they sold it. They don't, unfortunately, but they were kind enough to offer me another glass as a parting gift, which was such a thoughtful touch and perfectly captured the level of care and hospitality throughout our stay. The villas themselves were amazing. Everything was pristine, beautifully maintained, and spotless. The overall vibe of the property was quiet, peaceful, and deeply relaxing, which made it feel like a true escape. The property is small but quite nice. Pool is kinda crammed in there, with fewer chairs than guests should the hotel be sold out, and it's right in front of the restaurant, putting your swimsuit ass on display for anyone looking to dine. But there is a spa past the "guests only" sign, away from the pool, so that's at least an option. Rooms are spacious and beautiful. Reminded me of a casita. Shower is huge and has great pressure. Pocket doors all around, nice. Hot tub in back is killer and having a fire pit next to it makes the backyard lounging even more inviting on a crisp night. Free breakfast is full of solid choices. Not-free food and drinks are good but, holy hell, is it overpriced. I hate that we're at a place where drinks are $20 on average for alcohol that hasn't been getting more expensive. I just drink less so good for me, I suppose? I got a surf & turf for $55 and it was flank steak and about 15% of it was fat. It came with three shrimp. Sad. Excellent service. Everyone was polite, accommodating, pleasant. No complaints there at all.

I was a little scared when I read that most of the recent reviews were negative. I was thinking "oh no! What did I get us into." This place is a blast from the past. The decor is that of a mid century modern and is a really cozy quadrangle set up. The interior feels homey and the property is set up like an air bnb with shared amenities. They play 1950s music all day on speakers throughout the complex, it creates that vintage feel but can get repetitive after a few days. The pool is small but has a deep end 8ft which is nice. There are pool noodles and some tubes to use. The hot tub is spacious and powerful jets. We stayed in the Hawaiian surf room, loved the theme it was so cute and felt like a tropical getaway. The shower is small but functional. Good AC unit with a remote control and ceiling fan. Surfboard coffee table and wicker love seat add to the tropical feel. Overall this was a nice private getaway. You can be left alone to relax! If you need anything you can text the hotel and someone replies super quick in my experience. The hotel feels very secure with codes needed to enter the complex and security cameras at the entrance and surrounding the complex. (Probably for management to check and make sure everything is running smoothly). I would stay here again in a heartbeat and I have stayed at a few different boutique hotels in the area. This would be a top choice! Please realize this is an older complex and it does show some wear and tear but come on the building is probably 100 years old or somewhere close to that. If you are expecting a sterile, high end, resort feel for your stay this is not your place... but otherwise this is a great choice! I couldn't help but feel bad for the owners with all of the really bad reviews on here because that was truly not my experience.
