This place is slept on, and I'm not sure why. Although some of the entrees can use a bit more flavor it still delivered in the "delicious" department. Took my sister, my daughter and my bestie out to lunch. I had fish and chips and frito misto. The fish and chips were a bit bland at first but I put some salt and lemon on the fish and it livened up quite a bit. Very fresh. The frito misto was shared between all of us and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Very pleasantly surprised by how delicious this dish continues to be. I can recall the lava cake being a hit the last time I visited as well but that was a long time ago. I'm hoping to return to try that out again. Chef's kiss. I even tried fried smelt for the first time, and it did not disappoint. The mushroom pizza was savory perfection, and the Khesh Khash was so good! And for dessert? But the price could come way down. For what we got, way too expensive. Maybe the rent in this neighborhood is too much. For $96, my group of 3 received meager portions of not so authentic, dry, bland, Americanized food, and waited an hour and a half for it to come out cold, while seated next to some bins where the staff loudly chuck dishes and silverware. I get the impression that the owners of the restaurant are very passionate about the food they serve. I decided to try the Manakeesh Zaatar Pizza despite not having a clue what it was. Our server gave a little bit of background on the food, and the dish itself was really good! It was very lemony, and the crust was amazing. Though a bit pricy, I think it is worth the quality and taste. I also tried a bit of their special menu items, though I do not remember the name. It had sausage and sauteed vegetables topped with egg and a side of pita. It was truly delicious. The ambiance, as you have seen, is phenomenal. You can't miss this place with its over sized stained glass lit up rose dominating the patio. Its kinda over the too kitschy. I came here with a large party of 12. We were seated in a long narrow part of the restaurant which unfortunately had only hard surfaces and nothing to absorb sound so it was very hard to hear each other speaking. I got a salmon kebab with side salad. The dish itself was just good, not great, but the hummus was very good and the garlic sauce was very very very good. I also sampled my friend's seafood pasta which was pretty good. The menu was pretty long and just on stapled paper. We ended up looking at the pictures on their website to order. The prices are a bit on the higher side but the food is solid. I would suggest they add some fabric artwork to help absorb sound. read more

We started off with drinks and appetizers - shrimp, calamari. We both shared the Lamb and it was enough for 2 people with the size of that thing. If you live in LA or visiting LA then you definitely need to go and stop at Desert Rose. We did outdoor dining on their patio and it was amazing. We were there for almost 4 hours just sipping and catching up and it was a great time. My friend had the sangria and I kicked off with an espresso martini, which was absolutely delicious and perfect with the three beans. We split an order of their hummus with pita, and it was some of the best hummus I've ever had you can absolutely tell that it's homemade and delicious. My friend got the chicken Shawarma for her meal with the fries and said it was absolutely amazing and I had their salmon dish which I saved for over a half hour because it was so good I did not want to stop eating it. We then went and decided to do another round of drinks. Romantic lighting outside on the patio. There is a smoking section for Hookah. Tables were clean and bathrooms were clean. Parking: they have valet but we parked on the street. Service: Excellent. Our server and everyone we met eyes with was very welcoming. Where things went left: Food: So we weren't told the special "3-course Valentine's Day special was $75pp!!! Had we known that, we surely would have gone elsewhere. That's what we get for not asking. Now we know why they had space available. The menu was pre-selected. The food I get here is usually pretty yum yum like the crispy goat cheese salad and fried halloumi but if we're keeping it real I'm in it for the allowing of cigarette smoking on the patio. as I type this I'm remembering it's also a hookah bar so I guess it makes sense they allow regular cigarettes but in this upside world I would not be shocked if that wasn't a thing elsewhere. The Desert Rose is my "go to spot" in the neighborhood. The menu has lots of choices. The food is always yummy - the salads, risotto, the seafood choices, lots of veggie options and the DR Burger is delightful. The service is great. They are attentive and remember what you like especially Carlos. He is back on the weekends for brunch - yay. When I go there, it feels like "family". I leave with a smile on my face. Came here earlier today for breakfast/brunch as it was a place my boyfriend had come to a few years ago and said was a good and really popular spot. Place looked cute and had plenty of seating on the patio which is nice. However, the first concern was there were only two other people there and for a place in LA at prime brunch time in a nice area, that's a major red flag. Then we get sat by some cheesy waiter wearing a "tux" t-shirt and some hokey looking goth rings who hands us menus on basic paper that are stapled together (super tacky). I decided to still give the place a try. I ordered the Pear waffles. It came out beautiful looking! 10/10 for presentation! So why the 1 star rating? The server asked if I wanted maple syrup and I kindly said yes. A bus boy then comes out and gives me honey. We then ask the server why I was given honey and not syrup. He said they didn't have any. So my BIGGEST issue with this whole thing is that the server had the audacity to have someone else give me honey rather than himself coming to our table directly and telling me that they didn't have any syrup and asking if I wanted something else instead. So incredibly unprofessional!!! Had I been allergic to honey and consumed it, they would have a major lawsuit. Tax $3.41 but then an "open food" (??) charge for $4 and an added tip (i didn't add it..it was a take out order) for almost $8. These added charges are kind of outrageous. The food is always high quality, and while billed as Mediterranean, seems to have an Italian flair as well with some great pasta dishes. They have an artisanal vodka behind the bar for excellent martinis. The service is always impeccable, with friendly, attentive staff. We've never sat inside... (our only quibble is the giant television screens that dominate), but the expansive outdoor patio area works almost year-round, and it has always been comfortable. Pro-tip: If you're old, like we are, you can get 15% off with an AARP membership, (food only, no alcohol). They have honored it every time. So we tip on the pre-discount total.
