This company has wonderful customer service. From the point of your first call , all the way through the end, the women I worked with was absolutely amazing. The inspector works very hard, but there is a ton of emphasis on items that would be cosmetics vs. items that are real issues, like the electric, the bones of the house, the pool, the HVAC, the roof, and so on. Why I gave four stars comes down to the report. The report had missing core problems identified during the inspection. The template, format, and layout of the report are at best in need of some serious attention. The report focuses on more content and didn't include the pictures where needed and or a format that allowed the future homeowner ease of knowing what is a "real" problem vs more of a "code" problem vs a potential issue. You have to reference the document definitions in order to try and track what is really being identified in the report. When there was something serious identified, it wasn't really easily called out. The report lacked the true code and life safety language needed to interpret the issues ifcand when identified. Other than the report, We beleive this company is a good company to use for your home inspection. read more

Matt came out to do a home inspection for a property we ended up buying back in April-May earlier this year. He did a phenomenal job. The inspection report came with multiple pages, with pictures and a description of the condition of each part of the home, including things that he would recommend need to be looked into, such as being fixed or replaced. This is a great company. Steve was great. He was very thorough. When I tested a few things and asked him questions he was gracious and didn't treat me like an idiot, he was helpful and friendly. I can be a handful with making sure things are done thoroughly when it comes to things like this, and he was very patient and awesome. I felt he was really on my side without being dramatic about the home's issues. He was careful not to over-step his bounds on what he could and couldn't advise on, and very professional. This company has great reviews for a reason. They were middle of the road price-wise, but compared to the cheaper guys' reviews I would advise steering clear of trying to save a buck with a lower reviewed company to avoid missing a very costly repair expense. read more

They were meticulous in finding out what was sound, what wasn't, and referring us to other experts to further inspect areas they were not specialist in. I just recently purchased my first home (this is HUGE you guys, I'm known to be a wanderer). I was living in Denver while going through this process and needed to find a good home inspector. I made at least a dozen inquiries via the yelp app and contacted them all for a quote. My ten day inspection period started on the Thursday before the 4th of July weekend so this limited my time frame to get an inspector so I turned to Yelp. Desert State called promptly after my Yelp quote request and gave me a very reasonable quote, and we ended up scheduling for the Wednesday after the holiday, which was day number 6, plenty of time to spare. Mike arrived on time and was very thorough with his inspection, we provided a summary report on the spot and a detailed report with pictures later that day. Luckily our potential new home was in pretty good shape, but he found a handful of things we need to have repaired by the seller. They also arranged a termite inspection by Termite Protection Control, who was also prompt and thorough and found evidence of termites, I am glad I chose to do this, Star at DSHI highly recommended it and it was worth the $50, now the seller is going to pay the $500 for the termite treatment not me! That $500 savings more than paid the the inspections. I got three quotes and HSHI were in the middle on price, their five star rating, and the professional handling of the initial phone call by Star was the reason I went with them. Top notch and trustworthy, and friendly. Some of the other 5 star companies we're a little cocky when quoting and not to mention more a lot more expensive. One owner even talked down to me when I told him he was the highest quote. I just did not feel comfortable with either of the two other choices, with their phone approach and attitude even with their great reviews. Looking forward to closing on my new home! Overall great experience, Mike didn't stress us out about the small things every house has on an inspection but he emphasized the real concerns. Will use them again for sure. read more

We were happy with the thorough inspection but feel like we were ripped off for paying extra on a pool inspection. The inspector didn't know about salt pools and one month later we have a badly corroded salt cell. We're out $1400 when we could've had seller credit us for this. Also, home warranty won't cover it. Lesson learned hire an actual pool inspector. read more
