I have NEVER rant about any business ever in the 4 years I've been here in Yuma and never thought I would. I ask questions and give businesses the opportunity to explain why they do what they do before reacting. To say I'm upset is not even close to what I'm feeling but I feel it's right to warn others of this behavior. Don't EVER go to Desert Veterinary Clinic for an emergency unless you want to be given the run around about what they actually can do/will do for your pet. They will do treatment before proper diagnosis. It's not my first time with vets and sick pets. An X-ray is needed when there's a breathing issue! Forget it if it's after hours. They'll just send you right home with 3 week old puppy struggling to breath cause they want to leave already. Ask how much is it for over night care, they say oh it's really expensive and won't even tell you. Absolutely disgusting behavior, no compassion, no understanding. Doesn't matter if you're crying or upset. They don't care! I've never been treated so badly in any establishment! If you have too many questions they will send in other techs to tell you that's the way it is so sign the estimate or surrender your dog or go to Mexico. Check other reviews, their estimates are go up often with no reason! They don't care that's your baby, they don't care to understand human emotions and basic communication skills! BEWARE - Cheats and liars!!! Needed cyst removed from dog. My normal vet had already biopsied and determined non-cancerous, but it started to irritate my girl so we thought we'd have it removed while traveling to Yuma. Spoke at length with vet office and was informed we needed to have a exam before hey could schedule surgery and I was assured that they were only booked about a week out...so no problems getting surgery done while we were in town. Also had vaccinations for both dogs due over the next two months, so was told we should book the pre-surgical exam on Sunday and bring in both dogs because Sundays are 1/2 off vaccination. Thought "great" and booked the appointment. Upon arrival discussed everything again with receptionist, nurse and vet. Vet told us she'd also have to do an exam on other dog because she doesn't administer vaccinations without an exam. Kinda rubbed me the wrong way, but we were there so went ahead. Got done and vet said that she'd have the nurse put together the pricing for the surgery and would be right back. When the nurse returned she had the pricing but said they couldn't do the procedure for at least 2 months!!! I explained that we had already discussed with receptionist and vet that we were only in town for 3 more weeks at which point she produced a bill she already had prepped for 2 office visits and the vaccination costs. I explained that the only reason we had an appointment was because we were assured that the surgery could be done that month. She didn't care but said she'd have her manager call me back on Monday to discuss. Of course, no one called. Finally after leaving 4 messages someone calls me back to tell me she doesn't care that I was given mis information and wouldn't do anything to resolve the problem. Absolutely appalling customer service. I truly believe this clinic had no intentions of keeping their word and used deceptive booking practices and outright lies to get 2 exam fees that they wouldn't have gotten otherwise. Wish I would have looked at reviews more closely...most the recent ones are TERRIBLE. I will be reporting this to the BBB, AG's Office and AZ Veterinary Board. My opinion...STAY FAR AWAY!! read more

I brought both my dogs after my little one had an emergency. Everyone was very kind and treated us with compassion. My dog healed well and is good as new. My other dog was seen soon after and they fixed a complex problem that a previous vet had not figured out. She was being treated incorrectly by my previous vet and Desert Vet found the problem. I am truly grateful for my experience- they made a bad situation better and didn't charge a crazy amount. read more

We have had very bad follow-up on test results. Test done on Friday, told results would be available on Monday, called Monday P.M., was told Dr. had not looked at results, called Tuesday P.M. Same answer, called Wednesday after lunch, same answer. Finally Wednesday around 4:30 Dr. called. Tuesday a week later dog was there for heart x-ray. When we picked the dog up we were told the Dr. was writing a prescription. We have waited 6 days so far but have not been able to get prescription yet, We are told the Dr, hasn't written it yet. We have been taking our dog here since he was a puppy. Roughly 8 months and 6 trips. I felt like they wanted to see him more than necessary, but didn't give it much thought and was willing go with what the Vet recommended. Yesterday, we had an appointment for a dog we found abandoned at the river. She was in rough shape and we wanted to get her examined. So, my girlfriend took her in, and had our original dog with her. While that appointment was taking place she asked if the Vet could take a quick look at our original dog's tooth. We think he may have chipped it the other day, and wanted a quick opinion. We were told she would be willing to, but we would have to pay the full $65 exam fee as if he were receiving a full exam. At this point, it was obvious to us that this vet is only concerned with money and nothing else. We declined to pay the fee and requested our dog's medical records as we would be finding a new vet. After telling them this, she got the records and left. Once my girlfriend got home we realized they had over charged us by nearly $100 for that days visit!!! They had charged us for medication we received and payed for on our dog's last visit. I called today and was told they couldn't do anything about it. I now have to go through my credit card company to dispute the charge! Horrible experience with people who appear to care more about money than animals! read more

This place went above and beyond for our Rosie. We brought her in to have her put to sleep. She was 19 years old. She passed away before they were able to give any medicine. They let us wait in the room for the man from the crematory to pick her up. When I asked them what the charge was they said no charge. This will be the new vet for all of my animals. We take all four of our dogs to Desert Vet Clinic, and we're very happy with the care and attention we've received. Dr. Waples is our "canine primary care physician" and she's incredible. One of our dogs is special needs and she gives him the care and attention that makes me confident of his care. She's been great with all of our dogs, from puppies to adults, and we're very happy we found her. To make sure this isn't just an outstanding review of Dr. Waples, we've needed to take one of our dogs in for an urgent visit. The staff fit us in quickly and we were just as pleased with the thorough exam that our dog received. He was sedated, x-rayed, and I was included in the diagnosis and care. I appreciate that tremendously. All of the vets and the staff that we've worked with have been great and they all obviously love their jobs and working here. I'm going telling you a quick story about Dr Haugo. After living in Yuma, Az. for 20 years. Dr. Haugo has been stellar veterinarian to all my four legged family members. After moving back to San Diego for the last 9 years, I was given referrals to other Vet's there. In my opinion they weren't up to the standard I found with Dr. Haugo. This last week I had a medical emergency with one of my pets. I called Dr.Haugo and got in right away to have her check my dogs issues. I drove from San Diego to Yuma because I knew she would know what was going on with my pet. Boy was I right, Ginger, my dog was knocking on deaths doors. Within a couple hours Dr.Haugo diagnosed all her problems and they were very serious, from diabetes, to the start of kidney failure and other life threatening issues. Ginger stayed at Desert Veterinary Clinic for 3 days. I was able to take Ginger home after the care she received there. The staff took such excellent care of her with love and respect for her. The gratitude I feel is beyond words. From now on I'll make that trip to Yuma,Az. for all my pets medical needs. At Desert Veterinary Clinic my pets will be in safe hands with a proper diagnosis. Madison "Maggie" passed away from cancer on Nov 21, 2018. Dr Haugo, her long time veterinarian was amazing. Madison conquered Distemper, Mange, Mrsa and several other illnesses. She was rescued by us on a beach in Mexico near death. She was an amazing girl and lived 8 years young. Dr Haugo and her team at Desert Veterinary always went above and beyond to care for our special angel and saved her life more than once. Best vet care in Yuma, I am sure. I have been a client since Dr Haugo first started practicing in Yuma. I have a ferret and believe he receives the best care available anywhere from Dr Haugo. She is consistently an excellent vet specializing in exotics. She really cares for her clients and their pets! Any time a ferret gets sick, you can lose them within 24-hrs if they have certain symptoms and are not properly treated by a vet. Desert Veterinary Clinic employees are very aware of this and every time I call to schedule an appointment for my ferret they ask the right questions to find out if he needs to be seen immediately or not. Darling Lily developed a small irritated bump. It looked like a localized pimple, but on day 3, several longer, unusual hairs poked through the surface. Aspiration proved unusual cells, and surgery quickly followed. A Labrador has little excess skin on the rear leg, and closing the surgical site was a concern. Communication with our Vet was excellent, and I was presented with treatment options. I'm on a fixed income, but the clinic made it possible for me to pay for her care. Surgery was successful and three years later at 10 years old, Lily is a healthy, happy dog - and still my Darling! I've recommended Desert Vet to my family and many friends. read more

I brought in my 3 puppies for first shots and was told they were perfectly healthy 3 days later I had one die and now a week later my other two are extremely sick. I brought one in for a parvol test and it was positive. The test was done in my car and when we got the positive result someone came outside and took her in without wrapping her or taking any other precaution. This is concerning because they had other pets in there and they are being exposed to parvol now. I truly believe my babies got sick after the visit to this clinic. They need to do better!! To make matters worse because I could not pay for the treatment and decided to bring her home they called animal control on me. very very frustrated with Yuma as a whole. lack of veterinarians now and no emergency vet here anymore either! can't get an appointment for a month and a half and so if your animal has an emergency you have to basically go to Phoenix and hope it isn't serious enough where they may not make it! and now all the snow birds are coming making it worse on the locals! Yuma is terrible! my dogs health is at risk because I can't get an appointment at my established vet! Do better! I have mixed feelings about this place. I have been here maybe 3 or 4 times, and everything was fine until today. I had a check-up appointment for my 2 dogs (I rescued these 2 pups from the humane society of Yuma-they are both about 2 years old). My appointment was scheduled for 3:50 PM. I was there roughly 7 minutes early. I sat in my vehicle for about an hour and then sat in a chair outside a room for another 30 mins. The vet leisurely walked in about 5:30ish. It took a whole 6 mins for him to look at my dogs and charge me $235 and send me home. By the time I paid, and the appointment was over. It was 5:40. I know that this comment won't be read by many and much less by the vet clinic staff; they could care less about what anyone says. But sadly, I think it is entirely unprofessional and utterly ridiculous that anyone should have to sit and wait for 2 hours for a vet to look at my dogs (2 minutes and 30 seconds for each dog) and not even apologize for being so late and almost absent-minded. read more

Super nice animal clinic! Much better than the one in the Foothills. It's soooooo much cleaner, the vets are sooo much nicer an more caring. They are quite expensive but at least they don't tell you to call back on Monday if you call in on a Friday at 11.40 when your pet has a 105.8F fever and it's obviously an emergency! They're open 24/7 and take any emergency case - just call in!! They saved my kitty's life!!!! Thank you Jill - she is an amazing assistant!!! Absolutely worth the drive!! I had brought my puppy in without any notice on a Saturday evening. 1st of all the clinic was Open! The only one in Yuma that stays open passed noon on a Saturday! I was concerned about the health of her considering she came from a litter that other pups had turned ill. The staff was patient and kind and never once made us feel like we were inconveniencing them. They treated our pup like she was their own and also went above and beyond to get us in the following morning to save us on emergency visit costs. Dr Munoz saw us the next morning. 2nd of all they are open Sundays! She was clear on explaining everything to us and helpful with all my questions and concerns. I left feeling very confident in the care of my dog and knowing full well I can call anytime and someone will be available to help us. Not a a lot of experience in the clinic because we're new in the area. But our little fur baby Chihuahua was just put to sleep in their clinic today. And the way they handled us with such kindness and Grace and seem to understand our pain made me feel a hundred times better. They cared for her with dignity and made us a plaque with her paw prints. I was referred to the clinic by two people, so I expected a great experience. The decor is inviting and warm. The atmosphere is professional. Wait time was minimal. I felt welcome and I felt that the staff were educated and confident in their roles. I was most displeased with the veterinarian. I felt that she had no desire to include me in the assessment of my dog. She turned her back to me and positioned herself between me and my baby. She appeared to be focusing on something other than my chief complaint and made no effort to explain her actions. I appreciate her meticulous care, but I want to be aware of the process.
