This is my third time using the 'packing' and 'moving' services of Desi movers and I will say that I am very happy with their work. Their pricing is simple and straightforward and Jagmohan, the owner of the company goes the extra mile in ensuring all customer requests are entertained to the best possible effort. His whole crew is courteous and very efficient as they go about their work in the house. Special mention for Sahil and Sajan who did some amazing work to move really heavy furniture and appliances with care without any damage through some really tricky and narrow turns within the house across multiple floors. I will highly recommend desimovers if you are planning to move. Experience is great while working with desimovers. First of all they are very responsive when you call them unlike other providers. Jagmohan is quick to respond and makes sure your requirements are understood properly. Even at short notice they were able to give dates which suited our schedule. I used Desi Movers for two recent moves, one at the end of September and one at the end of October. Both times I had the same crew: Sunny, Manideep, and Santosh. They were prompt, had a quick sense of what needed to be moved, and worked very quickly. Highly recommendable people. Moreover, I was pleased to find out that they wrap furniture as I had not purchased any wraps or liners ahead of time. I could have also had them box up my smaller belongings, but I had done a lot of my own packing and only needed them to move the heavy items. Definitely bang for my buck. Just word of advice to people looking to use them, be communicative with how fragile some of your items are, and they will adjust accordingly. Some of my larger plants did get damaged, but only because I did not explain how to handle them. read more

We moved a few weeks ago from roughly Newark to San Bruno. The moving truck arrived approximately 30 minutes late which was not a big deal. The move started off with a good efficiency. However, the 3 movers quickly slowed their pace after around 30 minutes. It became pretty apparent that only one of the movers was really putting in good work, and the rest were just sluggishly moving boxes. There were a few upsetting actions. For example, we planned to meet them at our new apartment which was roughly 50 minutes away (that was how long it took us). However, they took 1.5 hours which was surprising. Another issue was that they were not careful with our household items. For example, I caught one of the employees sliding unwrapped furniture along the floor scrapping it. After unpacking, we also noticed multiple pieces of furniture that were broken. They also have an unspecified minimum tip. I would not recommend this service to anyone and will not be using them again. read more

Desi Movers moved my 1 bedroom apartment to another apartment in same complex in Union City. I would not hire them in future. Cons - Arrived at 5:30 in the evening for a scheduled appointment at 2 in the afternoon. Seemed to be a bit careless in handling the stuff. Did not trash the packing material/tape used. It was lying outside my apartment. Pros - Quick in shifting the stuff. Completed my move in less than 2 hrs. The charges were reasonable compared to other movers. read more

I used Desi Movers mid last month to move from MV to fremont. While there were things I was impressed with , there were some not so great things too with the move. We had used Bharat movers 2 years ago to move from fremont to MV. Seems like these 2 companies merged(not sure). But the old phone number I had, got redirected to Jagmohan of Desi Movers. Pros: a) Scheduling was pretty quick and easy. Called up Jagmohan and was able to get a time slot according to our needs. b) Hourly rate offered was just right. c) Team that came were nice, courteous and respectful when they talked to me. d) Was sharp on time to arrive. Cons: a)Team - effort misfit : First of all, for a 2 bed, 2 bath move, looked like 3 ppl were sort of short staffed. Made the move longer than last time, when there were 4 ppl ( where they subdivided into 2 teams of 2 each). Honestly, out of the 3, only 1 of them seemed to know what they were doing. Team seemed pretty inexperienced. b) Time taken for the move: It took a total of 10 hours for the entire move compared to 4.5 the last time. Most of it had to do with point a) above. At any point of time, it seemed like only 1 person was working hard and the other 2 weren't. This is after we had boxed all items except for the furniture. Distance covered to reach our home from the truck at Fremont was longer than expected, but wouldn't account for 5.5 hrs of extra time. Towards the end, I realized that I should have asked for a fixed rate rather than an hourly rate. Lesson learnt. c) The wrapping of the couches and the beds were not professional and wasnt proper. At the end of the move there was a tear of cloth below our brand new mattress and scrapings on the side of the couches. d) This point is what prompted to give a 2 star instead of a 3 or a 4. At the end of the move, we realized that one of the buttons in the electric recliner wasn't working after reassembly of the recliner. Sameer , who was leading the move , promised that he would bring a technician the next day and fix it. Did not happen. Called up Jagmohan thrice over the next week. Every call ended with a promise to make it happen the next day. But did not happen. During the last call, number to a technician was given and I called him up. He also did the same for couple of days after which I stopped trying. The end result is that the recliner is still not fixed after one month of the move. Totally unacceptable. Would surely go elsewhere next time. read more

Jagmohan was able to accommodate my request on short notice. The quote was close to or slightly below the average but he was able to give me a saturday slot when most others were already booked. The crew got delayed in the morning since they were working late the previous night but it worked out well since it was raining at the scheduled time slot. The clouds cleared by the time they came and the entire move was very smooth. Dino came with Vivek, Ajay & Krishna. They were polite, careful and reasonably efficient. Fortunately, I wasn't moving any appliances and none of the furniture was too heavy or large. They disassembled and reassembled the furniture as needed. They wrapped it well and tried not to hit the walls or scratch the floors. Frankly, I don't know what else to expect from a moving crew. I would definitely recommend them to others. read more

If there were one thing I would say about Desi Movers, it would be 'They Suck'. You'd be better off moving your stuff yourself using a U-Haul truck rather than using them. Our move that was less than a mile away and that should have taken 3-4 hours at the most for a two-bedroom apartment, ended up taking over 7 hours and turned out to be our worst nightmare. To add to it there was no documentation or accountability of items being transported, no item insurance coverage, no estimated time of completion for the move and no receipts of payment. The three people they sent to manage the move were moreover students working part-time without any experience in doing a move. Since they charged by the hour and cash only, I got the feeling that the main way to make their money was the number of hours and the more the better for them. About 2 hours into the move we noticed that only one of the three people was moving stuff while the other two were whiling away their time standing near the truck. A call to the manager had to be made to have them all work again. They were so disorganized that they left floor lamps and other items they were supposed to move, in the bedrooms, for which we had to call them back. At the new apartment they parked their truck illegally in a restricted area instead of using the Loading Dock. They behaved rudely with the apartment manager and spat a chewing gum that landed right near her feet while she was talking to them. They almost caused us an additional $150 in damages to elevators. They left boxes on every floor. We also noticed the community kids playing with our gym stuff that was left unattended. After calling their manager Jagmohan several times with different complaints throughout the move, he finally added 2 additional men to help move all the stuff to our apartment. I also overheard him badmouthing us when I peaked from my balcony to see what was taking them so long. After that he had the audacity to tell me that he would not charge me for the additional men he got in to help speed up the move when it was his fault to begin with for sending untrained and inexperienced workers. At the end of it all we had several items that were chipped, plastic packaging not removed from some, and yet others that were scratched. Ended up paying $800 plus a tip of $80 for all the pain and suffering caused. There was so much stuff still left over that we decided to move it ourselves rather than having them do it, else we would probably have ended up paying more like $1500. Took us six to seven additional trips to finally move all our stuff ourselves. I would rather go with professional movers I have used in the past, who would probably charge a bit more but you could rest assured that everything would be handled more efficiently and in a professional manner. Hiring Desi Movers is being penny-wise pound-foolish. read more

We had a great experience with them the first time so we booked again recently but were let down. Out of three folks who came, two seem very inexperienced and least interested. I would call it clumsy at best the way they handled some of our luggage, even dropping a few boxes while trying to carry more than they could handle on the dolly. Disappointed with the move experience. I have been using Bharat Movers/Desi movers for all my moves since 2010 and this time the move experience was bad. In the past, they had used professional crew who handled furniture carefully. The movers who showed up this time seemed like inexperienced students. * Appointment scheduling was easy and convenient. Jagmohan was prompt in scheduling. * Movers were supposed to come between 9:00am and 10:00am. They called sometime around 9:30am and said that they would be there shortly. Showed up closer to 10:00 but they still billed us from 9:30am. * Jagmohan said that they would be bringing wardrobe boxes. They showed up with 1 box and asked me to go buy the rest. While they did reimburse the cost, you would expect them to come with the equipment that they are supposed to. I should have billed them for my time in going and getting these boxes. * Damaged TV console by dragging it instead of lifting and moving. Dragged most of the furniture out of the moving truck rather than lifting them out. One of the movers threw some of our belongings in the garage when he thought he wasn't observed. After all this they demanded 20% in tips. * Didn't receive a receipt from them. I have contacted Jagmohan about filing a claim for the damaged furniture and getting a receipt. So far, he has offered to either fix the furniture or to compensate for the damages. I will update this review based on how things go. Update as on 09/23/16 - - Jagmohan came to take a look at the damaged furniture three weeks back and said that he would be taking care of fixing it instead of going through insurance. We were okay with it but since then haven't heard back from him or his handy man - no receipt received as yet - he sorted out the billing issue and reimbursed us for the extra half hour charged read more

Used their service for a recent move . Overall the experience was good. The helpers did a great job packaging and lifting some of the heavy stuff. They were also pretty carefully when instructed on fragile materials. They were on time and completed the move is pretty good amount of time. Wow! I am surprised at their ratings on yelp. Maybe I was the only one who felt cheated after using their service. I agree with the reviews from Alistair N. We moved in Nov 2015, but their bad service is forcing me to write a review now. I will explain: We agreed on an hourly rate per person and I expected similar speed and efficiency as movers I had used before. But give you an idea, for a 2 bedroom townhouse move, I paid 360 bucks 18 months ago( movers were taking stuff up) but the amount he came up after the move was 900 dollars- that's the amount of time they took (I paid 600+ after calling the owner). the movers were college students (maybe working illegally), who didn't seem like have much of moving experience. Move involved disassembling and assembling crib and my ikea bed. And these guys didn't know how to use their tools. And the reason for a review now, is because we are finding out they over tightened and made most of the screws are free now and their assembled furniture is falling apart. We moved in a house and desi movers my first day at the house a bad experience. So, word of caution, please negotiate price for the whole move not on hourly basis. Be careful about trusting them with your furniture assembly. read more

I was given the quote on phone very quickly and it was very reasonable. It required 3 guys to finish the job and took 8 hours. I'm not sure if I have the same movers as the other reviewers. 1. They did not have enough garment boxes, 2. They didn't have even a single extra box even though they were supposed to have boxes available for use at a price. (it's a good thing we were only a couple of boxes short) 3. They refused to pack anything for us. We had only some books, garments and some kitchen stuff that we were told they would pack. They refused and we ended up packing our stuff ourselves and feeling rushed at the last minute. The movers themselves were diligent, they got our stuff from A to B in a limited amount of time and didn't overcharge for anything. But in the end they wanted us to hurry up, which didnt' make sense to me, since they were going to be paid for the overtime.. I still think it's a good deal for their charge (hence the 3 stars) but I would pack all my stuff myself, and not wait until the last minute to find out if they are in the mood to pack stuff or not. read more

Moving services is a field job and delays or unexpected events can happen in a field job. However the key indicator is whether the business tried to make up for it or accommodated the change. I scheduled Desi Movers for day after Christmas and they got delayed due to a large move on 25th that overflowed into 26th. They couldn't start my move on time but instead of waiting, Jagmohan himself arrived with his team and finished the job on time. He was upfront about all the charges (which are very competitive) and also worked with my HOA for documentation. To sum it up - Desi movers provides excellent services at a reasonable price. We would definitely use their services again. read more

We used their service recently for our move and our experience was great. We had 4 guys for the move and I thought the price was fairly cheaper compared some of the other movers in Bay Area that I had checked with. They came a little late but it worked for us since we were not ready anyways. They not only carried boxes and furniture but also a lot of small items which we had not packed off in boxes. That, for me, was really some extra work and something they hadn't signed up for. But they didn't seem to complain. The owner was nice and friendly and so were others. I called them to move my 2 bedroom apt. They took 4.5 hours to load the truck. The new place was 3.5 miles and they drove there in 10 minutes and then unloaded everything in 1.5 hours. I felt they took 1.5 hour more for loading by doing things very slowly. Since you are paying by hours they rack up the hours and you end up paying more. After they were done on Saturday, I ended up moving 3 trips by my SUV to finish the job. They didn't even take all my stuff telling me that the truck is full and that they need to make another trip. I used Desi movers in 2006 and got a very good service. So, this time I called them again. However, after such a bad experience I was wondering how could this happen. I did some investigation and found that the management is new. Although the new owners are very customer friendly, their service is not as good. The old owner (Mr. Prabhakar) now goes by "Bharath Movers". If i need to move again I will definitely go with them as Desi movers is no longer a good option.. The reason I gave 2 star is very pleasant owner, showed up on time (2:00 PM), didn't damage anything (Thank God).. But everything downhill after this.. read more

Would not recommend at all. Writing this review even stresses me out. I should have read the reviews before booking. Moved out of 3 bedroom house. They got the truck which fits a 5 bedroom but they didn't arrange the items well in truck. I didn't know that I had to stay near the truck and do space management. I was inside the home showing them things. Towards the end, they left the heaviest items and said truck couldn't fit anymore. I asked them if they could rearrange items, they said no. I had to book another U-haul to move the left over items. I spent double the money for the move. And the items they moved are all damaged. Fridge door is broken. Every piece of furniture is either chipped off, scratched or cracked. Office chair, dining table chair and desk broken. I had to throw it away. I marked all the boxes that goes into each room. They dumped all the boxes in the living room one over other. they said they would rearrange the boxes later, but as we gave the money they started the truck. I went behind them calling but they didn't turn. Such a horrible experience. read more

These people are so rude. We are not even using them they are moving a neighbor and blocking parking spaces. We asked them to move their truck a few feet to let us into a spot and they flat out said no. We had to get the apartment management involved just to be able to park. If this is how they act how will they treat your belongings? No we are watching our vehicle because we are afraid they will damage it on purpose. read more

They were on time, and were very efficient in doing the job. They followed out instructions properly, on the fragile / heavy items, and placing the items in appropriate locations. However, in my case, there was one person who was overenthusiastic, and in trying to save our time, resulted in creating a smudge in the wall. Fortunately, we did not have to pay fine for it.
