Appt. due to a terrible tooth ache. X-ray was taken and a Quick Look by Dr Mahedi and his asst. led them to recommend a deep cleaning on 4 teeth. No follow-up on my toothache by the office. After a consult with another dentist a hairline fracture shows on the X-ray and a tooth extraction is needed. My husband and I will never to back to this dentist. My dentist had retired, searching yelp I found this office. I knew I had some work that needed doing that I had been putting off. The doctor gave a thorough exam and came up with two plans to bring me to a healthier mouth. I decided on a plan and the treatments went without a hitch. Appointments for subsequent cleanings have been great. They really take their time and do a thorought job. I have not had anything recommeded or done that wasn't necessary. One thing I appreciate is their respect for my time. Over the years I have been to offices where I would have to wait 20-40 minutes each visit, even for a cleaning. Not here. The longest I have waited is 10 minutes. I hope this dentist doesn't retire soon! read more

Out of integrity and scamming for money. Disrespectful dentist and incompetent hygienist. We brought our daughter in to get checked and the doctor insisted that she had 15 cavities. When I pushed to see them on the xray, he could not accurately show me. We sought a second opiinon, and what do you know...she has no cavities. The new dentist reported that she has mini ones but they don't need to be worked on and in fact many people have mini cavities. With regular flossing and brushing you can keep these at bay. Not to mention really horrible and disrespectful behavior towards my daughter--telling her that she had yellow teeth and that she was the "problem child" because she had so many cavities. Dr. Wahedi told me I needed to do a deep cleaning procedure that my HMO health plan would not cover. He also told me I had some cavities that needed attention. I was given a $2,000.00 out of pocket estimate. I came home and reread Yelp reviews. There are some that suggested Dr. Wahedi can not be trusted. Due to the fact that I am an HMO patient I believe to be compensated he recommends unnecessary treatments. Thus was my case. My gut said to get a second opinion. I changed health plans and went with a PPO which opens up a lot of options for well qualified, honest dentists. I found Dr. Kevin Jeffers, who has a 5 star rating. I do not need deep cleaning nor do I need cavities filled. Dr. Wahedi made me so concerned and stressed. He mentioned gum disease and said it can lead to heart disease. Perhaps that is true, but the way he presented it to me was to invoke fear. Thus, I would not hesitate to do the 2,0000. plan. Worst dental experience I have ever had in my 65 years. Dr. Jeffers was kind, honest and made me feel at ease, as there is nothing to worry about. I would not recommend Design Dental Smiles!!! This place is a SCAM! Here is my experience and hopefully you will understand why you should avoid this place at all cost. I have many reasons to believe dr Whaili is committing fraud when it comes to diagnosing problems and charging for treatment. 1) He used a smart and subtle tactic to convince me that I had many cavities that needed fillings. While using a sort of X-ray machine, he told me that dark spots meant cavities that needed immediate treatment. There were several dark spots that even a person with a complete lack of expertise like me could detect. I am 35 and in my entire life I only had 2 cavities, and I am not exaggerating or joking. Dentists are always complimenting me for my teeth. I go for cleaning every 6 months and they never find cavities, ever. Again, 2 cavities in my entire life! So you can imagine how surprise I was when dr Wahili told me that this time I had 6 cavities! and yes, I could see the dark spots with my own eyes on the monitoring but still couldn't fully believe it. Anyhow, we scheduled an appointment for a cleaning first. 2)Turned out that I needed a deep cleaning. Ok, but again weird. I have been going for cleaning twice a year, and all my previous dentists never suggested deep cleaning. It happened only once, like 10 years ago or more when my dental hygiene wasn't as good as now. I decided to believe him and went in for the deep cleaning. It was weird. It lasted way less than what a normal deep cleaning should last, in fact he did all 4 quadrants in less than an hour. Even his own secretary made a surprised face when I told her that I had my entire mouth done at once. To make things even more unusual, after the procedure nothing was hurting at all, not even a little minimal pain. So either Dr Wahili is the best dentist ever or, he DIDN'T PERFORM WHAT HE SAID HE DID. of course, I am leaning for the second option. 3) Before making an appointment to do the fillings, I decided to go to a different dentist to check out my 6 cavities. Result? No cavities. Zero. None. I asked him to check again, same response. 4) now the $$$ part. Office secretary told me my plan didn't cover the deep cleaning, and made me pay about $200 right there and then. After a while I received a reimbursement from my insurance of about $40. Ok whatever. I thought that was it. I had been scammed by the dentist, whatever. Several months after I received a letter form the dentist stating that I owed them $400 for services that the insurance paid to me. What?!! Absolutely ridiculous!! This dentist office is clearly a scam! I contacted a lawyer and he suggested to go to the police, which I will do very soon. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PEOPLE. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Albina Batchaeva for six months now, and I am quite pleased with her work. I have had three twenty-year plus deteriorating crowns replaced and two teeth cleanings. My only complaint is how long it takes for the dental lab that Petaluma Family Dental uses to fabricate the permanent crown: About five weeks, which is more than double the time of any other dentist I have used. Petaluma Family Dental moved to new offices on Professional Drive just before I started using them in February 2014, so I can only comment on that facility. Plenty of parking, new single-story medical complex; no problem there. They have always had me in the chair within 15 minutes of my scheduled appointment. Petaluma Family Dental had a new X-ray imaging system during my last visit that was pretty neat: It looks like a radar gun instead of the gimbal-mounted mad scientist X-ray machine I had always seen before. The real-time imaging is impressive and extremely high quality to my layman's eyes. The staff is nice, and the cost of the procedures was reviewed with me prior to making the decision to proceed. Of course, when your dentist suggests that an old crown should be replaced, it's better to do so sooner rather than later. The new ceramic crowns look like real teeth, so slowly my multiple gold crowns are morphing back into non-obvious restorations. I had to change dentists when I retired in January of 2014. I feel fortunate to have found Dr. Batchaeva and Petaluma Family Dental. If they get a faster dental lab, my rating would bump up to five stars. I have received no consideration for writing this review, nor was it requested by Petaluma Family Dental. It will be interesting to see if this positive review gets suppressed by the secret Yelp algorithm that supposedly finds shill reviews. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Wahedi for a year now. I am very pleased with the level of care I've been given. He is very sensitive to my needs, and does a great job. I recently broke a molar, and the staff fit me in the next day. Dr. Wahedi came in on his day off to see me, and make a temporary crown. The staff is very helpful and professional. I had a terrible experience with Dr. Wahedi and Design Dental Smiles. I chose them because they were one of the few options that accepted my insurance and had great Yelp reviews. I really regret it now, and to note all the reasons why would be too time consuming, so I'll stick to just some of the issues I experienced. Each visit the wait time was at least 40 minutes (and the office manager said that's to be expected with the insurance I have). I found that visits there once I was called in take much longer than at other dental offices. For example, I was there 3 hours for full x-rays and an exam (including waiting room time). As someone else mentioned in a previous review, Dr. Wahedi placed instruments on the bib on my chest throughout the procedure rather than using a tray. The cleanliness level was disgusting-the bib I had on was completely covered in blood/saliva among other things that fell in my lap when I sat up. No carbon paper was used to check my bite with the temporary crown, the assistant just asked how it felt to me (still numbed up of course). Dr. Wahedi's staff is not well trained and seemed to be inexperienced. The work Dr. Wahedi did (crown prep & temp crown) seemed ok, however my tongue was so badly damaged during the procedure that I could not talk or eat without pain for 2 weeks, and it was 4 weeks before it was healed and I could eat solid food. I never got an explanation for what might have caused this. In addition, the office manager advised me to max out my care credit card for services not yet rendered-for a significant amount. She did this without my consent, having mentioned it would be beneficial to me to do so when I arrived, but saying she'd go over it with me after my procedure. Instead I was asked for my payment info while I was still in the chair and unable to talk, while staff was shutting down the office for the night turning lights & tv monitors off. Maxing out the card actually gave me LESS time to pay, so was not helpful to me in the least. Ultimately I did get a refund, and never went back, however it took about a week and lots of follow up on my part. The office manager wouldn't return phone calls and hung up on my mother who called on my behalf when I couldn't speak after the procedure. I asked Dr. Wahedi some questions via email about my aftercare and my tongue injury and while the office manager assured me he read it, he never responded. The office manager was also dishonest with both me and my mother. I went to a different dentist and found Dr. Wahedi was also recommending multiple fillings that my new dentist feels are not necessary at this time. Bottom line, I do not trust Dr. Wahedi and his team; and would never return to his office. Better to pay out of pocket than deal with the unprofessionalism at this office. read more

Being new to the area, I wasn't sure where to go and found Dr W on Yelp and figured I would give him a try. I will rate them on 4 criteria: -Quality of the staff -Quality of the dentist -Atmosphere of office -Overall opinion of the business Quality of Staff- The receptionist is awesome and very personable and made me comfortable with the process and also worked with me on understanding the breakdown of the bill. Her name was Shari. The hygienist that helped me was also very very good and informative and very helpful. Quality of Dentist- Dr W was very good and very skilled with targeted anesthesia and only numbed what needed it. I was very impressed with that. He was also extremely informative when it came to explaining what was going on. I would highly recommend him. Atmosphere of the office- This is where they are lacking. I was not impressed at all with the office. They kept bumping into me because there was little room to maneuver around. It is also very outdated and old looking. I did enjoy their music selection though. Overall 4/5 only because of the tiny outdated office. read more

Be careful! New dental insurance so, first visit. Weird to find locked door when I arrived for my appointment ar 2pm. Eventually let in. Dr found something wrong with every tooth previously worked on, giving me an over $7800.00 estimate even though my teeth were all okay just a year prior. Couldn't wait to get out of there! I was charged a co-pay plus office visit which, I found later, I should never have been charged anything-covered by policy. Two calls by me and two calls by insurance company rep finally has me reimbursed but, not without a very rude office manager saying derogatory comments about me to the insurance rep, even after having been told I was on the line as well. The insurance rep was shocked and apologizing for her. Still can't believe how unprofessional and creepy. Be very careful! Not legal for them to double bill patient AND insurance company. read more

I don't like this dentist. As I'm lying in the dental chair already leaned backward, he rubs my cheek with the back of his index finger (like you might a small child) and says he'll be right with me. I hated it. I also didn't like that he laid several instruments on my chest during the procedure (prepping my tooth for a crown). He would pick them up and put them back down...ON MY CHEST. I'd never had any dentist do that before. I didn't feel comfortable speaking up because I was in such a vulnerable position (my tooth being drilled, leaning back in a dental chair). I just kept breathing until it was over. Do not go to this place unless you enjoy your dentist being completely inappropriate while you're in a vulnerable position (literally). The more I think about it the more angry I get that he felt so comfortable doing it. read more

I received good care by the dentist; however, I am not pleased with the office manager, JJ. I have been waiting for a refund of $464.00 for 16 months since 6/18/2018. Firstly, I should not have been made to pay the full cost before I left the office on that day, very unethical and in violation of the agreement with my dental plan. It was her responsibility before the appointment to get an authorization and the amount of my co-pay, if any, but she failed to do so. She assured me that any overpayment would be promptly refunded. I found out recently that my co-pay was only $34. After she filed the claim in June 2018, the claim was rejected for several reasons, in particular they needed copies of the x-rays. She also listed on the form that I received a deep scaling and a regular cleaning which was not true. I received the deep scaling only. From 2018 until December 2018 she ignored four requests from my dental plan to send them the needed information. In December 2018 the claim expired and she was notified to submit a new claim. A new claim was submitted on January 2, 2019. Six more months passed by, but finally on July 18, 2019, the claim was approved and a check was sent to her for $300.00 plus another smaller amount on the claim. It takes well over a year to make copies of x-rays and mail them? Six weeks have gone by and I still haven't received a refund. This is unacceptable. I've called weekly and was told checks go out on Friday. She is incompetent and a liar. Even though I respect the dentist and the care he provided, I will not return. read more

I am Absolutely Pleased with the level of Care And service I have received from Dr. Wahedi and his office mates. I just moved to the area and have been to this office twice now. First time was a full check up, where he took the time to give me an in depth explanation about myOral health and how to read my X-rays. This made me confident in knowing he wasn't just trying to "find" things to fix and that he really actually cares and is passionate about what he does for work. The second time was to get my cleaning and some work done. Again, everyone called me by my name, Was super helpful, and the overall energy was contagious. I felt in good hands and very taken care of both times. The girls in the front even took the time to Call me back on a question I had asked but wasn't expecting a reply for. And after I had some work done, I received a follow up Call to see how I was and what to expect.
