i arrive a couple mins early to my appointment. was not called until 15 mins after my original start time which was at 3:30. i understand if it were like that because it was busy but there was only one other patient besides me. i got a cleaning done and the workers felt as they had no idea what they were doing. some teeth were missed during my flossing and they couldn't work around my lips. then they started asking questions that i had answered on the questionnaire they had sent me a couple days before. my appointment was 2 hours long for a cleaning that in the past has taken 40 mins. read more

My husband had a 4 star experience however my visit experience was a disaster. My number one concern is that the office lacked a human connection. I let the receptionist know that the music was too loud for me and waited outside for the hygienist to be ready. I immediately told Adrian that the music was too loud due to my disability of hearing impairment with noise sensitivity. I told Billie and I told Dr Permalla as well yet not one of them offered to turn the music down. At the end of an hour appointment, I was told I'd have to return for the cleaning. It was hard to change dentists after going to the same one in Marin for so many years. So selecting a new dentist closer to home was going to be a challenge. I found Dr. Permalla after doing a lot of research. In October of 2019 it will be two years with her office. She has a delightful office and staff. Everything is up to date. The artwork and ambience are charming. This I mention because it is a first impression. The office is totally accessible which we do not need at this time but is important to know. Mary is my hygienist now and I really enjoy my time with her. She is extremely gentle and thorough. I go for cleanings three times per year as I find this keeps my teeth in better condition. Dr. Permalla checks in with me on the visits and although I have not needed her for dental work I feel confident she would be excellent. I had the very good fortune of meeting and having Dr Permalla perform some dentistry on me back when she was working to get her accreditation to practice in the US when she was a resident at UCSF Buchanan Dental School. That has been almost 20 years ago and my dental work looks as good today as it did the day she completed it and has been functional with no further problems. Worries about needles, no problem here. Today I went in for some dental work during which time, it was required that I have some numbing injects prior to my procedure. I have always been worried about needles, I hate them, I hate them a lot. The great thing about Permalla,Besides the exquisite interior, courteous staff, TV that you can watch while you have your work done is this...... They have a numbing gel that they apply to your gums prior to getting the numbing injection!! Talk about a great experience! This removed all of my preconceived notion's of getting a numbing injection and how painful they are. My procedure was completed ahead of schedule and I had post-op pain. Extremely disappointed! I called Permella dentist to establish care. I was excited based on the reviews. However, it was a complete waste of my time. I really wish I would have called a different place. I initially called to schedule an appointment and got a voicemail during business hours. I finally received a call nearly a week later. Then waited over a month to be seen. I took time off of work to accommodate their schedule. I showed up early and they informed me that my appointment was cancelled. No call or nothing. read more

Five years ago, Dr. Parmella recommended a lot of work that did not need to be done. Her assistant insisted on using an ultrasonic tartar scaler despite the excessive pain it caused my sensitive teeth. I switched to Dr. Amitesh Patel who has not recommended any unnecessary procedures in the five years he has been treating my family and uses numbing gel on my teeth before hand cleaning them. He is a family dentist who has cleaned my kids teeth. They do not have any fillings and are currently in high school. I do not recommend Dr. Parmella. read more

What can I say, my experience with Dr. Permalla has been nothing short of AMAZING. My whole life, I have suffered from serious dental anxiety. Good teeth are not in my genes and I've had some horrible experiences with dentists that have led me to avoid going to the dentist at all costs or have made me seriously sedate myself. After 5 years being away at college and not seeing a dentist, I was in really bad shape when I walked into Permalla Dental Care about a year and a half ago. First off, this is not your traditional dental office. The attention to design here is so well done and will trick your senses from thinking you are at the dentist. It is bright, sunny, and clean and it is so aesthetically pleasing. I love that about visiting the office. From day one, Dr. Permalla has acknowledged my dental anxiety and I truly believe she does everything in her efforts to help me, and her other patients, treat anxiety. She has always been honest, gentle, and talked me through every part of my procedure and overall treatment plan. When I first started coming to Dr. Permalla, I was taking anti-anxiety pills to essentially sedate myself before my procedures. After about 2 visits with her, I didn't feel like I needed them anymore because of what an amazing job she did helping me cope. Dr. Permalla invests in her office and practice and is current with the latest technologies. I've been to several dentists in Sonoma County, and to be honest, I've always questioned how relevant and up to date their practice is. Permalla Dental Care is the epitome of modern dentistry and Dr. Permalla takes it upon herself to invest in new technologies that she knows will be advantageous to her patients. Needless to say, I am so grateful I found her! I recommend her to all my friends and family and I can speak highly enough of her. My family has been going to Permalla Dental for over seven years now and we couldn't be happier with the care and attention we receive. For myself, I've been fortunate to have strong teeth and very few cavities. But that also mean I'm quite fearful of the drill. Twice now I've had a cavity filled and both times Dr. Permalla has been informative and gentle with me, and always checking during the procedure. This last time I didn't even need any numbing agent. Never have I felt anything and I appreciate her patience. My teeth are also very sensitive. I've had a few different dental hygienists; all have been very careful and accommodating to my needs. My daughter started seeing Dr. Permalla at the age of four and was extremely fearful of the dentist (doctors in general). Again, everyone was so understanding and accommodating, helping to relieve her anxiety. They also allowed her to sit on my lap for the first few visits which helped. This is exactly why I left! "We have a practice philosophy that is minimally invasive and part of that includes catching cavities when they are small vs. the traditional old dental philosophy where you wait until they get bigger and are more harmful to the teeth. For example, having to remove more tooth structure due to the decay extending or needing more aggressive dental treatment than just a simple filling. " ____ So to back your philosphy - you blow up the x ray so much that it shows every flaw in the tooth. My teeth aren't perfect. I get it. I don't need your sales pitch for cosmetic work every time I sit in the chair. I also don't need some dentist to tell me how I could end up with a root canal based on the nooks and crannies of my teeth. Of course you're going to see an early cavity if you magnify my moth as if you were looking for a meteor shower on mars. How about you keep a watch on a bad tooth and when I feel pain - I'll take care of it. If it doesn't bother me then I'll leave it alone. In 1 visit you told me I was loaded with cavities and needed to pull my filling. My visit 6 months prior with you there were no cavities. How does that happen? I went and got a second opinion and guess what - no cavaties. read more

My first visit to Dr. Permalla was after losing a crown (eating taffy, of all things!). The office had opened near my home recently and as we were new to the area, I thought I'd give it a try. I was SHOCKED when I walked in. The office is so modern in a bright, cheery, stylish way. It's not clinical or stark at all. You almost feel like you're in a (cool) friend's living room. The staff was so friendly, so genuine and helpful, as was Dr. Permalla. Dr. Permalla spent about an hour - maybe an hour and half - setting and resetting the crown until it got the perfect fit. She was so patient and wanted to be certain it felt comfortable and was placed they way it had been. I've never experienced dental care - heck, any kind of medical care - this thoughtful and thorough. I spoke with Danielle at the front desk about what dental insurance they accept and she gave me a list. We've since transferred to a plan that Parmella Dental contracts with - that's how amazing this office is. I had my first normal visit (non a crown replacement emergency) and found that the quality of care was just as high as I remembered. My husband came back from his first appointment and talked for at least 30 minutes about how amazing the care he received was. He was as pleased - and surprised, as it's not what one has grown to expect from dentists - as I was after my initial visit several months ago. After a few bad experiences with dentists in Petaluma (one arguing with a patient and blasting rap while I was in the waiting room), I've finally found my dentist! My experience here has been nothing short of excellent. Everyone on the staff is super-friendly, and they make you feel right at home, and Permalla herself is very genuine, and very friendly - she will come out to personally greet you before you go in. They all make small talk which makes one comfortable while sitting in the dentist chair, and they are happy to answer any questions that you have. During my first visit, I had a question about what was happening with a particular tooth that was sensitive, and after an examination, Permalla sat down and showed me an animation on her iPad that explained exactly what was happening with it! She took the time to answer all of my questions afterward. She and her staff are extremely knowledgeable and they know what they are doing. Also, their office is wonderful - it has a very colorful, modern look, and is very brightly-lit due to many windows, but is still really comfortable. The best environment, in my opinion, for a dentist's office. I've only been here for two appointments, but I really couldn't ask more out of a dentist - in addition to their awesome service, they will notify you via email and text when your appointments are coming up, and on both visits, they have provided me with free products (two tubes (one prescription, one sensodyne) of sensitivity toothpaste on the first visit, and a new toothbrush, toothbrush cap, toothpaste, floss, and travel bag on the second!). They sometimes schedule appointments a bit far out because they are really busy (they did this time for me, but that was to accommodate my wait time for my insurance), but when you are there, you are their focus and center of attention. I have lived in Petaluma for 13 years and when I moved here I had only seen one dentist in my entire life. So you can imagine I had a hard time finding a new one that meet my needs. After trying two other dentists in town my wife found Permalla Dental Care and we have been using them for many years now. I personally appreciate their honest and upfront approach to our dental care needs. They are so thorough at each visit and their level of communication is such that we are always in the know of where we are currently at with our Dental Care and what things need to be on our radar for the future. So that we are never taken by surprise by a large dental repair. The only thing that outdoes their workmanship and communication is their commitment to the Highest Level of Customer Service. Broke a tooth last night. Phoned a friend to get a referral that was in our network. As a "new customer" I called this morning at 8, got the call back at 9 and Dr. P was working on it by 1:30. Amazing work, I mean simply AMAZING! You should see this tooth!! My temporary fix to get me through Thanksgiving and Christmas looks better than my original tooth!!! Can't recommend Permalla Dental Care enough!!! Staff was very friendly and helpful. I'll update when I go back to get the crown. I've had bad dentist experiences in the past. Once you've had a bad dentist you REALLY appreciate the good ones. Now I won't settle for less than spotless state of the art facilities, friendly, knowledgeable, thorough and professional service. I found all of these things here. We are new to the area and I had not yet established myself with a new dentist but as luck would have it I broke a piece of porcelain off of an existing crown and needed to find one quickly. After researching my options and soliciting all the recommendations I could get I opted to try Permalla Dental Care. When I called they were pleasant and very helpful and were willing to fit me in first thing the next morning. That day I was given all my options without pressure and they were perfectly fine when I opted for the least expensive route and had her file down the broken area so I could continue on with life until I'm ready to take on the expense of replacing the crown. They also got me right in that same afternoon for an overdue cleaning that had taken a backseat to our move to Petaluma. The office is filled with Dr Permalla's own artwork which makes it the most un dentist like dentist office I've ever been to and I loved it. I also really appreciate that they are LEED certified and conscious about being environmentally responsible within the practice. The entire staff was efficient and pleasant and great to deal with. I recently moved to Petaluma and hadn't been to the dentist in over a year, so I was overdue! A couple people had referred me to Dr Permalla, so I went... TODAY! The first thing I noticed was that the place was super clean and did not smell like a typical dentist office. Crazy, I know. The ENTIRE staff is super friendly and knowledgable. I have never been to any kind of doctor where the doctor greets you in the lobby and spends a lot of time with you. She made sure I understood everything and that I was comfortable. I have to go back next month to replace 2 fillings and I am actually looking forward to it. They make you feel like you are part of their family.
