Here's my update: after having another company completely tear out the bottom of our shower to figure out where the leak was coming from, it turns out THEY DIDNT EVEN PUT ANY WATERPROOF SEALING underneath the tile. So yeah of course it's going to leak. This company is straight up negligent. Wish I could take them to small claims, but unfortunately, the previous owner is the one who contracted them. OUTSTANDING! Over the past 12 months the Folsom Designing Dreams team has remodeled two bathrooms and a kitchen for me in two different homes. Each a beautiful, spacious home in Placerville, CA built in the 1980s. So, as is often the case with these older homes you pull up the carpet or knock down a wall and it's like Forest Gump's box of chocolates, "always a surprise inside." But each time, Randy M. (owner) would come to me and say either we "have to" or "you should" fix this newest surprise. Now, I do not consider this up-selling, but more like a friend informing me of something his team noticed and then giving me the option of having it taken care of now by them or later by someone else. Each time Randy provides a verbal cost estimate for these "change orders" to the original scope of work. The thing is, his verbal estimates are always near 90% accurate. And his original written estimates at start of the project were each a dead-on, bullseye hit! Designing Dreams team members are all professional, courteous, highly skilled and take great pride in their work - "All Stars", each of them. I especially enjoyed my working relationship with my Project Mangers, Jeff E. and Duncan B., I always felt I could call or text either of them whenever I had a question or concern. They were consistently friendly, responsive and helpful whenever I reached out. I also appreciated the milestone based payment plan and the weekly forecast of work to be performed in my home and by whom. We contracted for a kitchen remodel and we chose them for the work promised. They made promises pre- work: put up dust barriers, put appliances in garage or carport. Tear out crew arrived with no plastic sheeting or moving dollies. Put appliances in the dining & living rooms. used plastic garbage bags to cover kitchen doorway. Damaged the wall when removing the old counter top. Trimmed the old ply or & damaged cabinets. ordered the wrong size garden window then Damaged/cracked our pergola when attempting to put in the window. Had to move the window & move the upper cabinet which was not installed on level. Failed to put support bracing for the new sink, then charged us when we put in most of the support. Had to fight to get them to fix the interior of the window which was poorly taped & textured due to poor quality framing of the window. Installed new window wrap but didn't sand or paint. Did not pull up floor protection materials or clean up. Used cheap unskilled labor for most of the project (though they were the most expensive company we interviewed). Project ran over time & Would absolutely NOT recommend this company. read more

When asked repeatedly for clarity on pricing, their response was "we don't itemize." On day 1, they acted like they were doing me a favor by potentially helping me with my kitchen remodel. I had the worst experience possible. It started out fine. I picked out my flooring and then had my house measured. This is when it went south. I never received a quote. I texted Carol several times and explained that I hadn't received my quote. She kept promising to send it but months later I still hadn't received my quote. I went into the design store because I was in the neighborhood and talked to Heather I believe. She called Carol because she didn't have access to Carol's accounts. Carol once again promised to send the quote and Heather said she would follow up. I never heard from either of them again. Funny, in the beginning of our remodel I had so many ideas and Randy would give me the space and time to really think through my choices. Last year I decided to embark on a master bathroom remodel. I had out-dated Corian on my counters, around my large bathtub and in my shower. I wanted a complete update, including frameless shower doors. I absolutely dreaded the idea of going through the process (workmen in my house, dust, etc) but knew it had to be done. I was at my wit's end after interviewing 3 different contractors. Two came back with ridiculously high bids (one I had to keep asking for - flake!) and one came out and never followed through with a bid at all. When Randy Mintz came in, he was professional and brought great/creative ideas to the table as well. I had large, ugly, basic, mirrors over my vanity areas and I shared this frustration with him. He suggested a simple (and awesome) fix of framing the mirrors - genius! I never would have thought of that at all! I'm picky and know what I like and needed someone who could share their creative expertise/vision with me, and that's exactly what Randy did. I told him I needed the job done within a certain time frame, and he made it happen. The work was done on time, on budget, and his crew was very conscientious. Top to bottom talent here. Randy and his team came highly recommended by a friend. They were to be the first of three bids I gathered for my kitchen remodel but after meeting Randy, and his designer, I knew that gathering any other bids was pointless. It simply didn't matter if the other bids came in lower because I was so comfortable with Randy and the endless quality products he had at his disposal. I'm slightly embarrassed to say that it took me about three months of back and forth to finally move forward. I kept vacillating on colors, materials and even direction but he never pushed me and answered my endless questions patiently. Construction is a stressful time; endless amounts of people moving about your house, etc but his guys treated my house like it was their own. To say they worked hard to keep things orderly would be an understatement. To be a great GC, you must have a great team and Randy has that in spades. Melinda, the ever patient and talented designer, Kevin, the foreman who stopped in daily to bring extra materials, check on progress, pet the dog and even ask me how I was doing with it all, zach, the jack of all trades, Jamie, the skilled craftsman and The two tile artisans. Don't bother trying to make an appointment with Randy. We had an appointment set for 3pm on a Friday afternoon. We were waiting to get the keys to our new office condo. At 2pm he texted to say he would be in the area until 3:00 - 3:30pm and could come by if we got the keys in time. At 2:20pm I texted him back to let him know we had the keys and were on our way. We arrived at 3:05pm and waited over an hour for him to show up. He was no longer responding to text messages. At 4:11pm he finally called me back and tried to say that he didn't know we were still supposed to meet and he was on a "production call" so he didn't get my messages. My guess? He didn't think we would get the keys and decided to take an early weekend, which would have been fine with me if he had just said so at 2pm when we communicated. Then I wouldn't have wasted my time driving to the office and waiting around for him. I had even offered to reschedule the appointment so it wouldn't be last-minute. To top everything off, he lied to me on the phone! He knew we had an appointment and decided to make other plans instead of following through. So disappointing. read more

This place is seriously heaven. I went in for a full spa day and cannot wait to go back. I started in the steam room (so relaxing) and moved onto my facial. I plan on booking a longer facial the next time because it was so nice! Then I moved onto my full body massage and sugar scrub. And finished with a soaking tub. The tub is like an infinity pool and it was INCREDIBLE!! I was also offered a lunch which I was able to take to go which was very nice. Highly recommend! We just finished a full kitchen remodel. Heard about all the great reviews, so I was expecting excellence. Their quote was about 20k above my other quotes. You get what you pay for right? After discussing the type of cabinets we wanted, they came out several times to measure and remeasure. Communication with them was great .... when they wanted payment. It was always an unknown when someone would be coming over to do work. The majority of the time we had to call and ask about the schedule. Once the work started, things had to be redone multiple times. The tiles on the backsplash had to be fixed s couple times since they were crooked or hanging off the edge of the counter. Gas hookup for the oven had to be moved a couple times since they didn't follow the directions from the installation manual. Couple of the lights in the kitchen were wired to the wrong switch. When the cabinets went up, they were not put up correctly. Cabinets on the main wall were 1/2 inch lower then the other wall. The top of the cabinets did not take into consideration the existing crown molding. The sides of the island cabinets weren't put in correctly/ don't match the rest of the kitchen. There were issues with the hood and leaving space between it and the sides of the cabinets. Spacing between the cabinet doors are mostly uneven. Cabinet installer must have come back 6 times to fix things here and there. I brought up some of my concerns to Randy, but his usual response was that it I shouldn't be concerned. This is getting pretty long. Hopefully you get an idea of what to expect. Overall the kitchen looks good, if you don't look too closely. read more

We did a kitchen remodel and new hard wood flooring with Designing Dreams. Overall, very satisfied with the work and quality, and Randy and Melinda were great to work with and had some really good ideas that helped us complete our design. The only reason I did not give them a 4 or 5 star is because of the change orders. I would highly recommend you get all changes quoted before work proceeds, and ensure you are 100% comfortable with the quote and look at the scope of work closely to ensure it includes all the necessary work, fixtures, etc. in those change orders. We were very surprised by the cost of the change orders, and on the first few change orders did not get quotes and moved forward with the work only to be very surprised by the large $ invoice for the change order later. We felt a little taken advantage of on the change orders. We did get an end product that we are very happy with (although we ended up over budget by more than $15,000 as a result of the unexpected prices for the change orders), and we did appreciate working with Randy, Melinda, and the crew. read more

Randy and his entire team are wonderful. They really know what they're doing and unlike so many other contractors, they communicate frequently and they are honest about what will give you the biggest bang for your buck. We found the crew that worked on our house, specifically, to be professional, thorough, and tidy. Even when the bulk of the work was done, the crew circled back with us to make sure every detail was completed and to our liking. From February-June 2018, we had the following done entirely by DD and their subcontractors (whom we would also recommend): -New exterior paint, exterior lighting fixtures installed, and stone facade -Walls/doors/windows/dated cutouts and soffits removed -Existing fireplace built-out (widened) with custom surround/mantel -Windows added in dining room and bedroom -Cabinets and floating shelves made to fit between fireplace and wall -Custom wiring of tv cords behind fireplace and speaker wires in ceiling -Extra large sliding glass doors added -Total kitchen remodel with bench seating in breakfast nook -Interior paint -New baseboards throughout the entire house -Canned lights installed in hallway and two bedrooms -Guest bathroom updated -Vinyl flooring (most of house) and new carpet Our relationship with DD began before we even moved to Folsom from the Bay Area. We sent Randy pictures of houses we were interested in buying and he got back to us right away with some ideas of how to remodel the spaces and cost estimates. Before we closed on the sale of our home, Randy helped us take a closer look at the kinds of changes we wanted to make and he played a HUGE role in helping us envision the house (built in 1991) as a contemporary space that suits our needs and style preferences. Melinda was also a HUGE help with the design elements of our home, such as the paint colors, lighting fixtures, flooring options, and the bathroom vanity. They would sometimes meet with us at various warehouses in Sac County to help us pick countertops and other important fixtures in our home. Our experience was by and large a good one and we are so grateful for Randy and the DD team for the beautiful work that they did. Planning a remodel is extremely stressful in normal circumstances, but especially in ours. My husband was deployed for 7 months during the entire remodel process, and I was living and working full time in the Bay Area, so we relied heavily on Randy and Melinda to help us make the right decisions about materials and design. They knew what we needed better than we did, it turns out! What's especially important to us is how Randy guided us in making decisions that fit our budget. Of course, we went over our budget, but we also saved a ton of money thanks to Randy's suggestions about where to cut corners without sacrificing on quality/style. At times, we wished the team had communicated more clearly with each other (but we chalked this up to having several big projects going on at once), and there was a big snafu with our bathroom vanity counter top, (not DD's fault), that caused a delay in our bathroom completion until well after we moved in to the house. Overall, though, we would recommend DD to anyone who has remodeling needs but be warned that there are certainly busy seasons in construction and frequent communication is the key. read more

1. I called and scheduled an appointment at my home. 2. The employee no call no showed. 3. I should have wrote them off but i was so motivated to get my home remodeled, I figured I could overlook the issue and give them another shot. 4. I called them and told them what happened. They apologized of course and said they forgot. I scheduled another appointment because they're local. Within the week they showed up. 5. My appointment went great, it was everything I wanted to hear (the gentlemen was a younger russian/ukranian as reference). I was really excited to get this work going, i have several projects i want done, some large and some small, whatever they wanted to tackle first worked for me. 6. He said he would have his team look at his schedule and get back to me on when they could start...1 week later, 2 weeks later....1 month....at this point I called them. 7. They said they were busy and apologized for not getting back to me but were not available anytime soon. I told him there communication is horrible! They could have told me sooner rather than wasting my time! My projects range from $1,000 - $15,000 according to what they estimated. We originally requested an estimate for carpet, but when Randy came out and saw our extremely busy household (3 dogs, 3 kids, lots of friends and activity), he suggested vinyl laminate flooring over our existing tile and in the room where we were going to replace carpet. We had never considered that as an option. It was absolutely the right decision! We are thrilled with the easy cleanup. Randy has a gift for design and color. He was able to show us the color palette that would coordinate perfectly with our natural maple cabinets and paint colors. We were on a tight deadline and DD delivered right on time as promised. The installation team was highly skilled and professional. I felt very comfortable having them in my home. Raul came to check on the job the first day to make sure everything was setup correctly. He then called back several times that week to checkin. Pat was great at facilitating communication between us and DD. There is not enough time or space on yelp to even begin my story. I'm completely shocked that there are any good reviews. The work provided by this company was so unprofessional. The workers completely screwed up every item and to top it all off - their waste was thrown in the yard in three different locations. So disrespectful! There were 20 items that had to be fixed or correct or still need to be fixed. We are way into this renovation over our budget. Be very careful of hidden costs that show up on invoices without documentation to back them. In addition, they throw in extra work without charge orders and overcharge. Disgraceful! read more

Designing Dreams? Nightmare is more like it. From poor workmanship to lack of follow-up to billing problems to damaged furniture an unbelievably bad experience. The quality of their crews varies incredibly resulting in one group doing poor handyman quality work while the next is so/so. Several parts of the flooring and drywall job had to be done three times to finally get it close to acceptable. Thought maybe our experience was unusual until an acquaintance told us a very similar story. Stay away! read more
