I only had a latte as the desserts and other drinks are pretty expensive. My friend got a medium size tiramisu and it was almost $80 I believe. The latte was pretty good though and the place looks clean. They serve some light lunch as well but I don't think I want to spend that kind of money at a place for desserts. It's now our go-to bakery/cafe! The first time I went there was for my friend's birthday cake. It did not disappoint! I picked the Tiramisu and everyone who had it made a comment how it tastes so good. I went back again that same month with my partner for an afternoon snack and I got a matcha cake!!!! it's creamy and the matcha is not overpowering. *this review is only for delivery order* I have been a huge fan of their strawberry shortcake and I have been buying it all the time from them in person; but I didn't feel so well to go in person so I decided to order from them instead. This place is a lovely find tucked away behind all the luxury shopping. We ordered three cakes and three drinks for a little over $40. Apparently they've been here at this location for four years, and they bake their cakes daily in the morning. One year later... still one of the best cafe experiences for me. Nice small patio area on quiet street. Ordered inside and they bring the food to your table. Individual cakes in grab and go section also plated for you. We had the vegetable soup of the day, classic grilled cheese, steak and avocado salad and meat lovers omelette. Everything tasted fresh made to order. Loved the matcha tiramisu and ube cheesecake. So light and airy and not overly sweet for both. My only issue was tea selection is standard twinings changed from my previous visit. I would've expected something higher end for the price. Went to the cafe to reserve the Strawberry cake for a Sunday pickup. The young lady who took my order was pleasant and when I went back after couple of days to pick up the cake, she recognizes me and gets the cake without me asking. People have already written a lot about their Strawberry shortcake, but I want to say it again that it was not too sweet, but really tasty and texture was very good. Not just the cake, even the whip-cream and the fruits in the cake were really fresh. Note: Had to order in person, since I wasn't comfortable sharing the credit card number. Although, its not much of an issue, but not sure why they don't allow reserving cakes without payment ahead. We've gotten birthday cakes from Dessert Lady (on Cumberland) several times, and finally dropped by their new Dessert Lady Cafe! The cafe is cozy, with a full lunch menu for those looking for a meal. Otherwise, all their desserts (cakes, baked goods) are on display. I got a slice of their chocolate hazelnut cake and a chocolate chip cookie. Both tasted great. I've been going to Dessert Lady for years, so I'm super excited about their new cafe/bakery location on Sultan: it's essentially Dessert Lady on Cumberland but upgraded with a sit down area to enjoy the food and desserts plus an expanded menu beyond cakes? Yes! Location is a tad secluded and out of the way of a main street, but the cafe itself is very cute, nicely decorated, well lit, and spacious enough. Unlike their Cumberland location which only sells cupcakes and selective mini cakes, the new cafe has a variety of whole cakes that you can get slices of. It's a bit on the pricier side ($8) but they do cut you a massive slice. I was really impressed with the cake variety and flavors on display, some of which I'd never even seen in their original location. I had the ube coconut cake: moist coconut/vanilla? cake layered with light ube cream and topped with a coconut buttercream frosting. It was heavenly. I could taste pieces of not only coconut flakes, but actual ube. Don't get me wrong, I love a standard la rocca now and then, but from the quality itself to the uniqueness, Dessert lady cakes are always so much more. Also in love with their ice cream. Super creamy, real ingredients. I don't think I've ever had such pure tasting pistachio ice cream. read more

This quiet, tucked-away cafe is the Dessert Lady's second location and its first proper restaurant. An order-at-the-counter eatery, it is casual, yet elegant at the same time. The menu isn't big (which I am fine with - it's easier to decide on things) but what they have is very good. My husband and I went for brunch recently, trying the avocado grilled cheese (him) and omelette (me). They are both excellent, though the sandwich was a bit over-priced for what it was ($12.50 for something that doesn't include a side). However, the sandwich was excellent (when they said avocado, the REALLY meant it!) and the omelette was nice and light. I also like how espresso drinks come with a mini biscotti. We managed to get there while the full breakfast menu was still available (some breakfast items, including the omelette and grilled cheese are on the lunch/dinner menu as well) but didn't order any breakfast-breakfast items like eggs Benedict or French toast. Perhaps next time. My husband and I were both a little surprised, however, that that menu isn't extended on weekends. You can't really call yourself a brunch spot if one can't get French toast (and bennies, especially) at noon on a Saturday or Sunday! read more

A nicely decorated cafe with awesome cake and decent food at a very resonance price. We had the lunch set + two pieces of cake. Strawberry shortcake: very classic and very delicious. Matcha tiramisu: very strong flavour of matcha, if you're a fan of the matcha flavour you will like it as much as me The lunch set includes bake pepper, French onion soup and a tiny creme brûlée. For $25. It tastes pretty good but not super awesome. With the good portion I think it's worth the $25. read more

I bought a dessert lady cake for my boyfriend at the bakery location but they told me to pick it up at this cafe because the bakery was closed on Sunday. To my surprise, it was a beautiful cafe in Yorkville! They constantly get fresh flowers and offer amazing slices of cake for $8. I mean seriously, these are to die for. My husband & I stumbled upon this charming little cafe, close to, but far enough away from the maddening crowd. Feeling daring (& hungry), I ordered the steak salad (& almost immediately regretted it as this did not look like a steak place at all?!) But when it came I couldn't believe how delicious it was, flavourful & tender & actually one of the best steaks I've had in ages & far better than many of the higher end places in the area. If you are looking for a cafe that always makes delicious food and has a great atmosphere, well this is it. This is my go-to cafe for dates and brunches. I love the original dessert lady bakery so I'm happy they opened a cafe nearby. They offer delicious fresh food and plenty of take-home treats too. I love that their lattes all come with a cute shortbread cookie. Everything is great! The staff are super friendly and the service is great. Ordered the Holiday Dinner for Christmas and it was terrific. Arrived right on time, neatly packed into aluminum containers which went into the oven for reheating. Instructions came with temps and times. Sliced turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans, gravy, cranberry sauce, and perfect dinner rolls. Two large pecan tarts and tres leche cake for dessert. It was all wonderful and too much for two - leftovers for the next day. Recommended it to friends; will get it next year, for sure! read more

I have been here twice. The first time there was a girl working with a turquoise ring and long dark hair who made me the most amazing hot chocolate. She was personable and truly lovely. The second time I went was with my husband for brunch the next day. I was so excited to bring him but left feeling so disappointed by the food and the service. My husband and I each ordered an omelet. My greasy omelette came without cheese -- it was over cooked and I knew it was going to be because it smelled like wet dog when it was cooking. By the time our waitress brought us butter for our toast it was cold so it was basically just cold toast with butter. Ew. I ordered my hot chocolate in a to-go cup so that it would stay hot but they gave it to me in a mug. It was so disappointing-- it was mostly just warm milk(and no they do not have a dairy-free option), I had a few sips and was done. When our waitress, not the same one as the day before, cleared our table she put the salt and pepper shakers on one of our dirty plates - that can't be in accordance with food handling health and safety - I shudder at the thought of whose dirty plate they had previously been put on. I had to use the washroom before I left but the directions on the wall beside the door didn't match with how the lock on the knob was so I couldn't be sure that it was actually lock, so I just left. Why does everything in Yorkville look so nice but end up feeling like something set up for rich people to make them feel justified in spending too much money!? I give up. Aroma is a two minute walk away and the quality is much more reliable. read more
