The car had not been hooked yet and the owner was there with keys to move it but the tow driver shoved him and said she was towing his car. the HoA has a tow contract with them but they chose to enter our neighborhood on a holiday the same evening of HS graduation with 5 trucks all looking to make money. No one called them to come, they came looking to take advantage of everyone that night to make money and outside of their contract terms. So they get one, nobody was especially rude and I was able to use the conveniently apportioned on site ATM to get cash for the $125 fine (a casino-like $5 surcharge in case anyone was wondering). Listen, I'm no law breaker. I went to the Harbor Walk with my family. Parking was full, so we parked at a nearby business park. None of the businesses were open and the sign marking towing along with the helpful name and numbers of Destin Towing was not clearly posted on the street side of the lot. "Destin Towing" is perhaps engaging in illegal business practices. My car was towed in a parking lot and when I came back there were more than 60 other cars in the lot. I never received formal documentation for why my car was towed. The price they quoted me over the phone to retrieve my car was different than the price they charged me the following day and also different than the prices listed at their business location. They also did damage to the upholstery in my vehicle. Also, cash only? They are talking about making America great again, but you just make people's lives more difficult... and this is coming from someone who politically agrees with you. The irony that I feel like it is within the realm of reasonability to wonder whether I was targeted because of my California license plate. Also on the phone - he never even gave me the address of where I should pick up my car! Can you believe that?! The way Destin Towing conducted themselves on the phone and in person was with an overwhelming negative tone, no sense of empathy and overall their business was completely unprofessional. I am very concerned that the Destin police department has not gotten this "business" under control. Their shady business practices have been documented countless times by others. Of course they will probably respond here with plausible deniability claiming that they are just doing their job and that they got a call from a business owner, but it is no coincidence there are so many people with the same exact story here on Yelp and elsewhere. When I shared my story with Destin locals, I learned their negative reputation in the community is actually quite well known. It's no wonder their business was written up in the NWF Daily News not long ago. This company is shady! My boyfriends truck broke down at a local gas station and he had to leave it overnight. He spoke with an employee and asked for permission to leave it overnight and they told him it was alright and my boyfriend left his name and number with the employee. There were no towing signs posted on the property at all and he parked the truck in a parking space the furthest from the entrance of the gas station to be as much out of the way as possible. The next day he determined the part he needed for the truck was expensive and he couldn't afford it right away and spoke with the employees again letting them know and asking again if it was still ok that it sat there for a while longer. After a week and a half he noticed the truck was gone. The gas station employees are denying ever speaking with him about this and refuse to pay to get his truck back. The towing company won't release it unless paid and this is illegal. The police can't do anything but suggest he file a civil suit which is a lot of money he doesn't have. When he spoke to Destin Towing about the legality they basically told him to screw himself and sue if he didn't like it that they have lawyers too. He is still paying on his truck 200$ a week as it sits in the towing lot for 75$ a day. Something needs to be done about this! read more

We had two vehicles towed on 1/1/2022 we asked to do a walk a round to check our vehicles as other customers were as well. Our first one was fine but the had pulled our Elantra up against the back of a tow vehicle and put two large dents in the hood approx 2 inches wide and 1 inch deep. We called the police after be called liars by their owner and the officer said all we can do is file a suit against them. From all the research I've done this is a very common thing with this company and they play the odds people won't sue them. Also I wanted to pay with my debit for proof and this company only takes cash. I was told 25 dollars per car and when I pulled out my money he then changed his price to 125 per car. We parked in a small shopping center parking lot across from AJs and got our truck towed literally a block away, costed us $125 to get it back. We did see 1 sign when we were trying to figure out what happen to our vehicle, but it was not "clearly posted" where we had parked. They towed over 20 vehicles from that lot around the same time they towed ours. AJs parking was full, as was most every parking lot around, I had no idea business owners are so protective of their parking lots after hours. What happened to customer service? My mother-in-law was babysitting at my home over night which ended in her car getting towed by this company. I understand my HOA has rules, so that's not my issue. What's at issue here is essentially a complete lack of tact and customer service. She informed him she needed to get to work so where did she need to go to retrieve her vehicle. The owner told her it would be $125 for the towing and a $25 storage fee ALL CASH! Additionally, she could not get her car until 8 am. I asked to speak with him and asked if we get the car earlier since the sign in my neighborhood says the tow company are available 24-7. He stated my guys worked until 4am and no one will be in the office until 8am. I asked why the other car two houses down was not towed since the tow hours are from 12-7am. Which to me seemed a valid question. He then told me, he wasn't even sure if they had her Camaro since he wasn't working and he would call back. When he called her back she began to get flustered, so I asked to speak to him he told her I'm not talking to anyone but you I don't care who they are. I called him from my phone and asked him common practice to not speak to the property owner where tows vehicles from. He got upset and asked me, "is your name on the title? Is it your car? I don't have to talk to you!" I informed him I'm the one paying the tow fee and he has a contract with my HOA. Is this how you treat customers? This is probably why your company has 1 star reviews on yelp. He then told he didn't give a damn about yelp reviews and hung up on me. Now legally, I understand they can't give your car to the person who's not the owner, but why the rude treatment of a person who's had the traumatic experience of waking to her car gone? This is the only towing company I will ever call again. They are awesome. My car died at the grocery store. Hubby out of town. Friends all at work. They came right out very quick. I was upset and crying, frustrated because I had the car at the dealership but they were too busy to look at it. It had been dying. They determined I had a dead battery. They charged my battery and got my car going. They advised Petboys would be a good place to get a new battery and even called Petboys to let them know I was coming. I wanted to chalk many of these bad reviews up to sour grapes, but after just having my own terribly unprofessional experience with Destin Towing I'm convinced the owner is either a crook or the world's worst businessman. He had to tow 3 of my customers' cars - not because they were illegally parked but because they were on a 2day fishing trip and the property owner was setting up for the Seafood Festival in the parking lot and their vehicles were unfortunately in the way at 830am. I was contacted by the property manager and understood the situation. I called the listed number and spoke with Scott who started to defensively explain the situation. I told him I understood and that I just needed to know where the lot was, how much this was going to cost and what time they closed. He responded with "on Mountain Drive, $125/vehicle and 4pm." My only problem was the 4pm answer and I was audibly upset when I informed him that the boat wouldn't be in till 6pm. His response was, "well that's your problem." I told him this was going to be really bad and I had to call the property owner back and hung up. Let me reiterate nobody was parked illegally, the property owner and the festival coordinator did not want them towed to the impound lot.....just out of the way. I immediately called the property owner and informed her of the situation at which she was also very upset and concerned. While on the phone with her, Steve called me back and begrudgingly told me he'd have someone stay till 7pm but not a minute longer. I thanked him and promised him we'd get the customers there before then. I called the property owner back and told her what he'd said. To this point all parties involved had been stressed but polite to each other and understanding....except for Steve. He could have cared less, was short and rude on the phone, and acted like he was doing me a big favor staying open 3hrs. Fast forward to 630pm when I show up with my 3 customers who are understandably upset but are not being belligerent. The lady behind the counter was ready for us with the paperwork. She informed us that will be $150.....I immediately balked and said I was quoted $125! She said well the cars have been here more than 8hrs, there's a storage fee. I said that's not what I was told. She said to take it up with the owner. I asked to see him and she told me I'd have to call him. While I was on the phone my fed up customers tried to just pay her but ran into the next scam. We knew it was cash only thanks to some homework on my part, not because Scott thought to tell me. But she claimed she couldn't provide change for $100! I asked if I could pay with a company check and she said cash only. Thankfully we managed to scrape together change between the 4 of us. While we were waiting for the vehicles Scott calls me back and I upsettedly start complaining that he quoted me "$125 not 150 and then to add insult to injury can't make change for $100 at a cash only business!" Now I'll admit I was audibly upset but I hadn't cussed or been inappropriate to this point. "His response was, "I never said any such thing. There's $300 in change there. And this entire conversation is being recorded....." At that point I got really angry. Instead of taking an opportunity to make some good community neighbors (that I'm gathering from the reviews, posts, news articles and general bad press, he could have used), making a bad situation right, and following the law.....he accused me of lying and threatened me with what I can only imagine is legal action by telling me he was recording our conversation. Let me again state, I understood the situation, approved the towing and was prepared to pay the $125/vehicle. I wasn't at all upset at about any of that. It was an unfortunate situation I was trying to make the best of. What I wasn't going to take was rudeness, being overcharged and then being mistreated. Unfortunately for him I do my homework. I know he was going to violate state regulations by closing at 4pm and implying my customers were SOL after that AND I have witnesses to prove it. I have gotten legal advice and will be contacting Destin and State of Florida governing authorities in the am with a report. I was pulling our travel trailer and made contact with a fuel pump while exiting a gas station. Unable to move either direction without damaging the pump we required assistance, and the sooner the better as we had an aisle of gas pumps shut down. We are from out of the area, needed an approximate 8000 lb. trailer pivoted, and weren't familiar with any of the local towing companies.We explained our situation to the first tow company we called. They reported being unable to help as they didn't have the proper equipment.Next we phoned Destin Towing. We were cautioned to not attempt further maneuvers until they arrived, which they (two men) promptly did, and in as big a tow truck as I remember ever seeing. You don't purchase, license, insure, maintain, and operate vehicles like that for nothing. They did some assessing and got us out of a situation with no damage to the pump (main concern) as otherwise might have resulted in a fuel spill, possible fire, involvement from the EPA and who knows how many other governmental entities.Did I like paying a tow charge? No. Did I learn a lesson? Yes. And, even as unknown "out of towners" in a compromising position we were treated very fairly. When I consider the expenses we might otherwise have incurred I can only commend these guys for the job they did. read more

I agree with the others, 1 star is too generous. This place is a scam. The driver was really rude. I saw the tow truck parked behind the gas station waiting on vacationers to leave their car. At night the signs are not visible if other cars are parked there. They should have signs as you enter the parking lot. One thing to remember when you read the owners response is he has an excuse or explanation for every situation. Not taking responsibility or trying to rectify the problem but putting the blame on the customer. The Parking lot had no visible towing signs anywhere near my car and all the business were closed and there was other cars in the lot as well. This is a blatantly illegal business. The towing company has a contract with some other shady people that own the parking lot across from AJ's. The sign says "Tow Away Zone for 'Unauthorized Vehicles' (I guess whoever they deem non-authorized since the cars that are the business owners in that lot are untouched, giving the appearance that its fine to park there) 24hrs a day, 7 days a week. I mean, if you're gonna be a crook, at least work a little more for it, rather than towing cars literally just around the corner so as to not upset people further by making them get an Uber since it's within walking distance. But then the best part is that they're adamant about a "cash only" payment instead of taking cards, even to the point of which they have an ATM......a freakin ATM as soon as you walk in! Like really....that's bold and just screams illegal. Oh, well that is after they let you in since they lock the doors. I guess the police don't rightly care though; the station is within 100 yards of the place. Tells me all I need to know except who's getting the payouts and evading taxes. I'd love to see their recorded revenue for the last few years, it's either extraordinarily low or high depending on if they're laundering money through this process by way of such a bulk of cash payments or if they're just a bunch of hillbillies that are trying to cut Uncle Sam out of the equation. I've never seen anything like what occurred last night in a very nice nieghborhood of Destin. A bunch of local military friends had gathered for a "going away" party for a member of thier unit, when suddenly one person happens to see a tow truck hoisting one of our trucks into the air. Everyone spills out of course to figure out what is happening, when the driver attempts to drive off with the truck in tow, no warnings, no knock at the door, no previous issues / tows from this property (home owner has lived there for three years). Tow truck driver is now angry and blocked in due to a small mob gathering trying to figure out why he is stealing vehicles without warning. Truck driver states he will not let the truck down for anything less than $125! Upon investigation of the tow area, no signage existed to alert no parking should occur, and tow truck driver stated he can tow any vehicle if the wheels are on the grass or sidewalk of the subdivision (this truck had about two wheels slightly touching grass where it was parked according to the driver). What the hell is going on, that Destin Tow is now preying on military and locals, with practices they have perfected on the tourists. When people think of cockroaches looking for scraps and sneaking around at night these are those types of people. They ruined what should have been a nice night for a bunch of military members who are deployed too much as it is, and just wanted to celebrate each other. Thanks a lot Destin Tow. read more
