As another reviewer wrote, I also had requested will-call service when i first signed up in January. I then got an automatic delivery early february. I called again and for a second time request will-call. 2 weeks after the first delivery, i got ANOTHER one, right as fuel prices were going up. I called for the third time and the customer service woman said it was not in the system and then was rude and questioned me as to WHY i wanted to be on will call. When I said it didn't matter why, she started trying to sell me automatic delivery discounts and packages. I said no. Just to be sure I called back a week after that to make sure it was marked in the system as will-call and Thankfully, it was this time. However, I'm still going to barricade my the pipe just in case they come by again. If I wasn't converting to gas soon, I'd find a different company immediately. read more

I ran out of oil earlier this month. I called them in the evening and they were able to send somebody over to give us some oil to last the night and they then came back the next day to fill the tank. I was very happy with their customer service at this point and they gave me a good introductory price. When I filled out the customer survey online at the time of this first delivery, I made sure to note that I wanted to call when I needed oil, rather than sign up for automatic delivery. Fast forward 2 weeks and they show up unannounced to fill my (2/3 full) tank at a price of about $0.75 more per gallon than the next guy was charging. My wife had to stop the guy from filling the tank. When I called to ask why my request for non-automatic delivery had been ignored, I was basically told that I owed them my business for the assistance with the first visit. Maybe they didn't remember that I actually paid them a lot of money for that 200+ gallon fill up. They later threatened to charge me over $100 for a service visit if I didn't stay as automatic. I found their approach bullish and arrogant. I bet they still have me on an automatic plan.... It is frustrating when these guys make your oil purchasing decisions for you. read more

Arcudi are one of the most expensive companies in the Central MA area. We have been a customer for over 3 years. We have had a number of issues with billing/delivering the wrong quantity of oil with them in this time. The final straw was the rudeness this past weekend. We placed an order for oil last week and having noticed that we were running much lower than I originally thought, I called them to see if we can expedite a delivery. I was simply told "no chance" by a very rude man on the other end. No explanation, no consideration that I have been a customer for over 3 years. Take your business elsewhere to a company that is more affordable and reliable. read more

What a terrible experience - my fiancé and I just purchased our first home, which runs on oil (heat and hot water). We were left with under a quarter of a tank, so a refill was crucial. After research we called Arcudi immediately, and told them our dilemma. They told us they would be able to come and deliver in "Monday or early Tuesday". On Monday no one came, so Tuesday morning we called to confirm with the company (they said we were all set). By 3 pm Tuesday no one had shown up, so we called back - "oh, someone was supposed to call and tell you we would be down Wednesday". I cancelled on the spot, I could not believe how bad their communication had been, especially with a new customer. I called Medway Oil and they took our situation seriously. Was with this company for three years. Every single time I had my furnace serviced by them it would stop working within a week of service. I gave them my credit card info to take a set monthly budget amount out. Twice they applied the full balance instead of the budget amount resulting in over $1000 in overdrawing my acct. TWICE this happened. The woman in the office (Nadine) processed the incorrect amount and had to refund me the money which took three extra business days to go back into my account. I was not happy. No apologies. And no lesson learned because it happened again...Nadine processed a payment for the full balance rather than the budget amount. Very poor customer service skills and she's lucky I didn't file fraudulent credit card charges. They will process payment with your credit card for amounts and on DAYS you have not authorized. DO NOT TRUST THEM WITH YOUR CC ON FILE. Apparently they feel they can withdraw whenever and whatever they want with you CC on file. If your budget payment didn't go through one day.... They will try a different amount on another day. BECAREFUL! There prices are always higher than other local oil companies. Not worth the aggravation. Not worth the price. Not worth they fear that someone is toying with you credit card. Go with another local company. read more

I am a consumer, and have the right to shop for services. After spending an hour on the phone trying to set up service, I understand small talk to be personable but this was too much. After he gave me the price per gallon, I saw that it was higher than most others. Only a few days after the initial set up, I received an email through my employer for a different company that was a much better offer. I called to cancel since I had not received any services yet, and was told it would be given to Brian to cancel. A few minutes after I hung up, Brian calls me back and started in with the drawn out talk, only this time I was at work and did not have time for another hour long conversation. I said I'm at work and can't be on the phone long, that I just wanted to cancel. He hung up on me! Absolutely unprofessional! They will never get my business. read more

Hello. My name is Linda L. My husband, Mark L., and I have been customers for over 35 years. We started off as customers with Hughes Oil and then continued with Devaney Energy. We reside in Dorchester, MA. For well over 20 years our technician was Mike Storach. When he retired, we panicked thinking we would never ever have a technician like that again. Mike was the best -- in soooo many ways! Last year we had Dennis Coleman and he was so good that I wrote down his name and requested him again this year. He came today for the annual service and tune up on both our furnaces. I just felt the need to tell you what a wonderful person he is, extremely personable, and an incredibly hard worker. You can tell he likes his job and pays such attention to detail. I cannot say enough about him. So rather than go on and on, I will just say for as long as he's with the Company I will be requesting him every year for the tuneups. You have such incredible service people, and we could never even think of going to a different provider. John Holmes flat out lied to us. Offered a good rate to get our business then increased it by $1 per gallon with no notice and denied ever making the deal in the first place. We disputed the increase and they said they had recorded all our conversations. When we asked to hear them, all but one had vanished but even this one supported our argument. They didn't care. i'd rather freeze than deal with him or that company again. read more

Had a great service visit today in Beverly from one of the technicians, Larry. He was incredible, spent several hours fixing a system that had been neglected for years. Also had to use a few ingenious approaches to set up a new heating zone, he was helpful, friendly, and stayed until the job was done right. read more

I'm surprised by the bad reviews. I've been using them for about a year and a half when a condo I bought was still under a maintenance contract with them. I've had them come out for heating issues twice and both times they came right out and took care of the issue. I've also had two maintenance services. Every time someone has come out, they have always been professional and friendly. Even though the maintenance agreements requires auto-fill ups, coming regularly ensures you don't run out of oil which can damage your system. read more

Consistent and prompt service when needed. Oil delivery is reliable. We have been a customer for approx 15 years.

We've used Devaney since moving to our home ten years ago and have been consistently pleased with their service, both routine and emergency. Two years ago, we enrolled in their budget program, which has made dealing with the cost of heating our older home with our older heating system a much more palatable process. Today, Rob, one of their techs, came out to our house for an annual oil burner cleaning. He was on time, polite, and friendly, and he left the area cleaner than he found it. So far Devaney has been really good. We had them tune up our boiler and get our heating system in order the night of our closing - there happened to be a snowstorm that very night! They got us up and running and helped my husband remove a window-unit a/c that was letting in all kinds of drafty air. Each time they've come they have been friendly, knowledgeable, super encouraging and respectful of our home. Rich is our go-to guy for heat/boiler related questions, and he has helped us numerous times. He's so easy to reach via email and will get a technician to our home asap if/when we need one. On one occasion, a technician came out and was so excited about our older home, he helped us discover an abandoned chimney that we didn't even know we had - even our home inspector missed it! Bravo to the Devaney team - keep up the great service and we will be your customers. I took off one start because after our most recent oil delivery, the delivery technician put an adhesive sticker on the clapboard siding on the front of our house at the oil fill line with the company name and phone number. We didn't authorize them to use our home as ad space. When I removed the sticker, the adhesive left a gooey film that now has dirt and dust sticking to it. I will now have to scrub it off our wood siding... not necessary, certainly not authorized, and has created a chore. read more

I have been a customer with Devaney for quite awhile. Have always found them responsive and fairly accurate on there appointment commitments. My boiler and hot water heater were replaced approximately 5 years ago. Devaney suggested that we separate the hot water from the old system that was hot water on demand. Both units have been running quite well. Plus we have saved a little money as the new system does not kick in to just provide hot water....think summer time when no one wants the whole system kicking on just to heat water. read more

What Michelle at Devaney informed me of is that the prices I was getting quoted for were an introductory plan with no service plan. Every person I have dealt with there has been unfailingly pleasant, responsive and helpful. Service calls get a very prompt response and the oil delivery has been totally reliable. Small town but BIG service. They do it all. Installations, delivery, and even propane. The main reason for my 5 star review is the service. The staff know me and I matter to them. It seems prices keep getting more expensive but they offer value as opposed to all the other "discounters" with their bait and switch tactics. I've had enough of calling around and getting lied to by shady salesmen. Brian, one of Arcudi's salesman, is honest, explains things thoroughly and with no surprises. These guys are schisters and I should report them to the State Attorney Generals office because of their business practice. We signed on with them for oil delivery and paid every bill within 24hrs in full. First they called to "Confirm" the appointment to clean our boiler, we never ordered a cleaning and even after we told them we didn't order the cleaning, they decided to send us an invoice for the boiler cleaning that we never ordered. They also have a habit of showing up at my house, and only because I'm on nights I caught them pulling up to give me an "Auto Fill" that I didn't order. they must be following orders that if you live near where they are driving by, they stop by your house... and top your tank off. Who knows even if their fuel counters are calibrated correctly as I swear I had more in my tank when they swooped by last time.... Enough.... I'm done with these schisters!!! They still selling fuel for $4.00 as of the other day, it should have been as low as $3.56 on 12/11/12. On 12/26/12 it should be approx. $3.65 read more

They have done everything in the way of heating and air conditioning in my apartment houses, from installing and servicing both oil and gas heating and hot water systems to air conditioning and dehumidifier installation and service. The highest compliment I can give them is that they have installed the heating and air conditioning system in my own home. Devaney's service from both in-office personnel and systems technicians is professional, friendly and caring. I'm surprised by some of the negative things that have been written about these guys. I guess happy customers don't write reviews, so I will. I've used these guys for many years and have had a great experience. My oil tank is filled automatically and I've never run dry. They come and service my system every year and the techs are always neat and orderly and seem to do a nice job. When I've called their office I've talked with trained, knowledgeable and friendly people. I think this is a very professional company and a good value for the money. I've heard that I can buy oil a little cheaper but think Devaney does a great job and the extra few dollars a year I spend is worth the level of service, reliability I'm experiencing from these folks. I have been with this company ever since they succeeded Diehl. They are friendly, thorough, and very competent. The last oil burner tune up I barraged the poor guys with questions and details. He was very knowledgeable and patient. I have always used oil, as my Father did; you cannot beat the service. I am a customer with Devaney for now 6 years and so far I had always great service (I have the yearly service plan) and my tank was never close to being empty when they came to refill it (automatic fill service). The service crew was always very polite and knowledgeable and when they left everything was really clean. I had a couple times problems with broken parts that made my heat not work in wintertime and they were always there within the day to fix it and i never had to discuss billing issues. Therefore I am a very happy customer and could only recommend them based on my experience over the years. read more

I starting using Arcudi Oil after receiving an invitation thru the mail. Talked to Brian. Thought at first it was a great deal until I got the bill and saw the outrageous price. I called and explained that the price was too high per gallon..so I decided to let them know to cancel my account..I was rudely spoken to, then told that because I didn't honor a year contract with them I'd have to pay any discounts I was giving for paying early ???? Since when did I sign any kind of contract?? Immediately I received an email with the new billing I supposedly owed. I explained that the price was extremely high and he left a message on my home phone more or less stating too bad. Most awful experience I've ever had with a service company...never again!! The prices are outrageous with a company attitude to match. I gave it one star simply because there wasn't anything lower.. read more

I had some bad experiences during the time that I had James Devaney as my fuel company. Once they forgot to auto fill my tank, so the house was out of oil in the winter. They eventually sent service later, but they tried to charge me a service fee. Another time they locked the price, but after a short time I found out the price was expired and I was not aware of it. I called the manager, and his name was Bob. He was rude and did not appreciate me as a formal customer. He became extremely mad after I had requested that he lower the price, and declined to do so. read more

This is not an attempt to slander, only to caution others not to make the same mistake I did. Devaney is an extremely dishonest and disreputable company with no loyalty or accountability for services provided. We had a new furnace installed and had problems with fumes and soot coming from the registers. Had someone out from Devaney to inspect the problem a month after installation. Told us everything was fine and furnace was operating normally, despite my persistent complaints. Problems continued and a year later, requested they come out again to look at the problem. Was willing to pay for the service, even though this was an installation issue, but they wanted nothing to do with me, because I didn't order oil from them. Incredibly poor customer service. Finally had a technician from another oil company come out to inspect the issue and was told the furnace was not installed properly, it was producing hazardous fumes and was a danger to operate. Was told to stop operation of the furnace immediately until the issue was corrected. The company provides absolutely horrible customer and technical service. read more

The company heating oil pricing is a complete rip-off. I was on MassEnergy program for the last couple of years but forgot to renew the membership in March. So they charged $3.60 for a recent March 2015 delivery while the average price in the area was around $2.60 without any MassEnergy discounts. Even without the MassEnergy discount of about 44 cents, they could have charged $3.00 per gallon but not the exorbitant $3.60. The customer service was totally unhelpful and essentially said that they could do nothing about the price. read more

I have used Devaney Energy for 18 years Excellent service Devaney has never let me down. Recently had an issue with water leaking from a valve needed emergency service called at 6pm explained the issue to service rep he informed me that a tech will be out within the hour 6:45 tech arrives unit repaired at 7:00 professional courteous service. My Mother has been on a service account with Deveney for oil and maintenance and had good service for years, but recently through their miscommunication has almost been without heat multiple times during this cold winter. Their technician found a small leak in her tank, and recommended replacing it, but didn't mention that this needed to happen immediately. About a week later, she ran out of oil on a 10 degree day, and when she called Deveney to see why they hadn't filled the tank, they said they couldn't fill it because of the leak. WHY DIDN"T THEY MENTION THIS BEFORE SHE WAS OUT OF OIL? She is now in the process of switching to gas, had to have an emergency restart, and will run out of oil again before the gas burner can be started, but in the meantime has run out of oil AGAIN, and Deveney has refused to refill. This is difficult to rate, because she has had good service in the past, their technician was very knowledgeable and thorough, and the Service manager she spoke with is justified to not want to deliver oil to a leaky tank. The issue is that Deveney put a stop on her oil deliveries without informing her in the winter! This is completely unsafe, and completely avoidable. read more

They gave me an estimate of 400$, I authorized the work for 400$, got a bill of 900$ and now they are trying to convince me why i had paid 500$. They were friendly initially but I don't like their ethics and practices. They are not very particular about documenting, following up, etc. I told them "Don't you think the bill is excessive", she said "Yes, my supervisor agrees, lets reduce x dollars". When I tried to resolve the issue, they started arguing and telling me its my fault. read more

I would suggest you avoid this company. Their heating oil price is consistently 20-30 cents/gallon higher than its competitor companies. If you don't mind paying hundreds of dollars more each winter, you can go with them. Their service is all right according to my one time experience. The thing that pissed me off is that when I decide to switch to other oil company, they first bad-mouthed the other company, then promised to get me a better price quote, but they never get back to me. When I called in, they first tried to bounce the ball to other people. It turned out that they completely forgot their promise. In the end, they charge me penalty because they said I break off the contract. I just feel they do not have much integrity in doing business. read more

We have an older home, with an older heating system and tank. The previous owners used Devaney so we decided to stick with them since they gave us a good introductory rate. Really, oil heat is an absolute arm and a leg no matter who you go with. I am sure I could shop around and find someone cheaper, but for convience sake we have stuck with them because they are familiar with our system and I have had good customer service the couple times I have had billing questions or we needed servicing (including in the middle of the night). read more

I don't write many Yelp reviews but I have to rate Devaney with 5 stars. Unfortunately, this week I have got to know them very well. On Friday night I came home to smell oil, they sent someone out at 9pm, he was nice, gave me a great explanation about the weeping oil tank (a really old tank) and the next morning we were in touch with the oil tank installation company. He came to my house Monday morning before I went to work since I knew I'd miss Tuesday because of this blizzard. I was feeling hopeful because the costs weren't as bad as I anticipated. Then, this morning - Blizzard 2015, the furnace had stopped. Within 1 1/2 hours of speaking to the Devaney representative, a technician was at my house. He fixed the furnace and carefully checked out all the valves and pressure. During a potentially dangerous day to be in a cold house with no hot water, I had heat on within a few hours and the amazingly capable and knowledgable technician could not have been nicer or more thorough in explaining what he was doing and the problem. Although having heating issues sucks, its a comfort to know that you can get great service even when no one else can leave their home. read more
