We have been customers of Devaney ever since they were previous companies that were apparently acquired by Devaney over time. Over those years( which are 35 or more) they have primarily provided oil and oil burner service for the 2 forced hot water boilers in our old 2 family home. They have always been very responsive, skilled, personable and professional. They have always come through in winter emergencies and so on and so forth . We recently upgraded both our boilers to gas. After my own lengthy study on what type of systems to go with, the Devaney folks and I agreed on going with standard high quality Weil McLain 84% cast iron boilers. I know that the current fashion is to purchase " so called" high efficiency, computerized 96% boilers , The reality of their annual and ongoing expensive maintenance needs, their questionable ability actually run at anything above 86% during the winter and other things led to that decision. These guys have been in this business for quite a while. They've seen it all. Our mutual decisions were in alignment with my observations. Installs went well. They know the system and easily helped arrange for a solid subcontractor to install 2 chimney liners for us. They also were very helpful in getting Nat Grid to update all my gas piping , city inspections and all that! I won't bother with discussing the pros and cons of going with boilers v furnaces , solar and so forth. That is a discussion for another time. In summary. My purpose in writing this review is to warn people AWAY from this company. They are probably the most expensive oil service company in New England and beyond. Just recently, as of June 12, 2024 they charged me $4.70 per gallon to fill up my heating oil tank, so I called around and found a supplier that charges $3.30 per gallon, -- 30% LESS! Previous to that, for equipment repair they charged me $2,100.00 to replace my water heater which was under guarantee, so there was no charge for that, but their replacement service only took two (2!) hours, and the parts needed were less than $100 for a short length of copper pipe. So they charged me $1,000.00 per hour to replace my water heater! When I complained they knocked off a full $100.00 (5%) from their charge. This company is the worst ripoff I have ever experienced so I strongly encourage everyone to steer clear of them and look elsewhere! Devaney Energy is not honest, not ethical. read more

totally conned us! paid for service contact and what I thought was a year of locked in oil price in OCT 21 and came to find out that their year is April to April and they auto delivered the first week in May at over $6 a gallon doubling the cost I would have paid if they delivered in April. Just called to have service and I was told if my hot water is still working then my furnace is working and it's going to cost me if they come out to fix my heat which is not working. totally horrible service. read more

They seemed great at first, but to no surprise I was a victim of their marketing scheme like everyone else here... at first they offered a great rate, coupons, discount if you pay within the first 10 days of delivery. The next winter they raised our price $0.50+ from the local market price with ZERO NOTICE. When I called they gave me the explanation that it was the market price and promised me that even call on demand costumers would get charged that higher price. When I called from a different phone number they gave me a way cheaper price. Called to complain and they could care less. Finally called to cancel and they claimed to be the best around, bragged about their discounts and said I would not find cheaper oil. NEWSFLASH! There are over 20 companies that serve our area and they do offer better prices even with automatic delivery/ service plans. They also charge you the cheaper price instead of raising your price and giving you discounts. I don't mind paying extra for services but at least notify your customers. Also, don't go with Patriot or Blackstone oil, they're the same company. read more

Over 20 years ago, the previous owners of our house recommended we use Devaney for our oil and so we did. In all that time, we have been pleased with their service. They are very responsive when there is a problem, and the yearly check ups are thorough. This year, being in quarantine, we were initially reluctant to schedule the annual service. Just want to say how pleased I am to be an Arcudi customer. I was having an issue with my burner, called this morning, a tech was sent within a few hours. The tech was named Jim, and he was OUTSTANDING. Super friendly, very knowledgeable, and very patient (I asked allot of questions, and he explained everything perfectly). He replaced a nozzle and made several adjustments (many trips to the van). Not only did he fix the issue, it runs much quieter. Jim is an outstanding example of great service from Arcudi. I have used Devaney Energy for years with wonderful results. They are knowledgeable and professional, although not always the cheapest. I found them by calling many in a few days requesting the Mass Save price. Chris offered me a better price. I stayed with them until I found a cheaper option - when I called to cancel-they matched it for me and offered a better contract for the upcoming year. I called to tell them I sold my house - they offered me a better contract for 2 years at my new house. They have come out in the middle of the night to service my burner. I have written a review about this company last year. I started with this company when Jack Arcudi and his family owned it. It was a family owned business that was very involved with the community. When Jack and his family sold it I thought things were going to change. They did not. The only thing that changed was the name in a few familiar faces. I still call for questions and I get a respectful response every time. My service tech "Jim" is the most friendliest outgoing caring knowledgeable person that I have ever met. I can't say enough good things about this company. As I said before in a previous rating post, if you want to save $.50 and go with another company that's your choice. But, you will not receive the quality service and respect that this company provides its customers. Yes, other companies have offered lower pricingOn fuel. However, I'm not about to risk not having the peace of mind in case of an emergency service call to my furnace. Wheather it's early morning or late hours during a storm, they have your family covered, Because this company is ready to help. read more

Unfortunately, as if there is not enough going on, I am updating my review to voice a serious concern and disappointment with our service by Devaney Energy. We had a Buderus installed last Mother's day weekend.  We had a couple of issues with the install - ie:  failure of fire inspection which was corrected and we received a pass after adjustment. As the heating season came upon us, we developed water forming along the cement walls, behind the Buderus, in the area of the flue vent.  Upon install, we had asked if a liner was required, or if any adjustment to the flue was required, and both the installers, and the technician TH told us no. We are now having a stainless steel liner installed as that is exactly why we have the new water issue.  Looking at the Buderus book, it clearly states that this is highly recommended.  The flue vent for the Buderus is saturated with condensation from an improper draft.  This adds another $4K to the total cost of the Buderus.  Had that been done at the install, we would not have this additional cost, or the stress that the leak has caused the home owner mentally and physically. We were told by the certified inspection tech that if the liner had not been installed, in time we would have had oil residue and condensation coming back in to the $10k Buderus causing damage. This adds another layer of disappointment to our recent service experience by Devaney. We need to have a new oil barrel installed as well - so that is the removal and drainage of the old, and new install.  It likely will not be by Devaney. I will additionally add that we are still waiting for a quote on the mini-splits for a 3 season porch, kitchen area and upstairs bedroom.  We requested that from the MS face to face, and multiple times by email.  Although we were promised quotes on multiple occasions, we are done waiting as another summer season approaches.To be honest, we have completely lost confidence in the services of Devaney.  As this heating season ends, we will be looking at other resources for our energy needs. read more

Very difficult company to work with. The sales person misrepresented the company's pricing, service, and policies and then refused to acknowledge what was promised was not delivered. A dishonest sales person is very difficult to overcome. My recommendation is to choose another company. If you can't do that, I would be very wary, get everything in writing, and don't believe any information given over the phone. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!! We had such a horrible experience with this company we almost sued them, and still might. When we bought our house in 2004, they installed a brand new oil tank and Buderus oil system for somewhere around $7000. Two weeks after the installation, in late October, the heat went off. Between that night and 15 months later, we had to make around 30 service calls for the heat going out at all hours of the night. In February, it got below 30 degrees in our house! After months of phone calls and certified letters, I finally was able to talk to James Devaney himself and I demanded that they fix this problem or refund my money He told me that he was cancelling my account because he was tired of coming to my house--as if it was all my fault that the heat was going out! They never fixed the problem. This company is incompetent and unethical. They should be run out of business. We finally ended up with MacFarlane Oil, and they are great. read more

Deceiving. When I switched to this company I was told that their rate would always be average price minus 10 cents per gallon. John Holmes, the person I talked to, even encouraged me to check the "MA Department of Energy Resources" website for current pricing and expect to billed 10 cents less than that per gallon. Then came the bills in the mail after each delivery... they were 43~56 cents per gallon more than average every time!! On the bills they offered a prompt payment discount but that didn't bring the price down by much. I talked to John Holmes a couple of times about this. He was very successful in dodging the subject each time. When I decided to discontinue as a customer he said I would have to pay about $200 additional per service contract to leave. The weather now is in the 70s and 80s. My heat doesn't come on but that doesn't stop them from scheduling to fill up my tank in the next few days. read more

We had a terrible experience with their "budget plan". We were set up on an auto-delivery with a $200/mo payment plan, the payment amounts were never changed to reflect what we were actually using once history was established. Instead of lowering the monthly amount to compensate for this, or not charging at all when there was such a high credit balance, they wanted to increase the monthly payments. We decided to switch to a more transparent and affordable company. read more

They blocked my water heater with some pipes that could have easily been configured another way and when I needed to replace my water heater they wanted to charge me labor to move the pipes they installed. Just terrible in so many ways - price, service, trusthworthiness. It is hard to read the other victims' reviews and responses (supposedly from a Devaney). They are about large accounts and the bottom line no matter how it comes about. We've personally had an installation go bad, deliveries timed to highest spot price, estimates on replacing non-failed components and shoddy routine servicing. They complete some jobs satisfactorily but homeowners looking for routine service and the expectations that go with are not part of Devaney's focus. read more
