Food was good, typical Chicago vibe. Fries were a bit dough-y lacking salt. Shakes were amazing, thick and creamy. To die for! Burgers were good, bun was the best part. Would be back

Terrific burger and fries. During our recent trip to Chi town we did some research, and everyone told us we had to stop in small Cheval - thank goodness we listened. This burger joint is serving up some heat. A smaller, more casual version of its sister restaurant Au Cheval, Small Cheval is a great quick stop place, with amazing views all around the building and a charmingly intimate vibe. The menu's simple and straightforward - mostly burgers, fries, and fried chicken. We got the regular double cheeseburger with a side of fries, and I was super impressed with both. This is a top 5 burger all time for me (the butter brioche bun really puts it over the top) and the fries cooked in beef tallow are to die for. Do yourself a favor and get the garlic aioli sauce with everything. Nothing else to say. Go!

beautiful place and large seating area! I loved how the place had both standing countertop areas for eating, as well as large tables the back, giving the place a diner-like feel. I got the double cheeseburger w bacon and a cookies and cream milkshake. I greatly enjoyed the milkshake -- it was smooth and creamy. I would have liked to try the concrete to get more oreo flavor and chunks, maybe next time! the burger was tasty, but didn't like the bacon all too much. it had an extremely beefy taste that overpowered the taste of the burger. toward the final pieces of the burger, it tasted dry and heavy, especially considering how thick the bread is. the fries were decent, but lacked crisp and salt. definitely happy i tried this place but not sure if I'd go back!

Parking situation isn't great, so if you find yourself near a Small Cheval with a lot, definitely take advantage. However, this location is a really cool spot with great views and floor to ceiling glass windows in the dining area. This is Au Cheval without the wait, the thick cut bacon, and the egg. Signature double cheeseburger with some Golden Fries on the side is always the move. Comes with a garlicky aioli as well that was solid. They have some beers on draft. The milkshakes, cones, and the concretes looked enticing. Next time.

Everything is awesome.- Sir Emmet Brickowski Basically, it's everything you love about the fast foodie side of the spectacular Au Cheval without the long wait.

Tried Small Chaval Riverside and went with the deluxe double cheeseburger minus the cheese, fries, and a strawberry shake. The burger was cooked well, juicy with a good char on the patties, and the toppings kept it balanced. Even without cheese it was flavorful and satisfying. The fries came out hot and crispy, a nice portion to go along with the burger. The strawberry shake was thick, creamy, and had a real fruit taste rather than just syrup, which made it stand out. The spot itself has a casual, easy vibe and it's nice being right by the water. Service was quick and friendly. Prices were fair for the quality. Highly recommend.

We stopped by this location on a recommendation to try their sandwiches. The place had a line waiting to order, but it wasn't a long wait. My wife ordered the Double Cheeseburger and I opted for a Fried Chicken sandwich. Both sandwiches had a soft bun and the Chicken was moist and flavorful. There is limited seating here, but during warm weather, there is seating outside with a great view of the Chicago River. All in all, a very pleasant visit and we will stop in again when we're in the area.

Honestly one of the yummiest burgers I've had aside from in n out. The patty was flavorful and the bun was soft. I ordered the cheeseburger with tomatoes and lettuce, along with well done golden fries. The golden fries were very crispy! Service was decent, but the food took a bit to come out. Would definitely come back!

We took the Metra down to the OTC and stopped by this Small Cheval for a quick lunch. The place was hopping with a hungry work lunch crowd and the counter employee literally handed out about 50 orders before our order came up. We woofed down a very decent double cheeseburger, fries and a chocolate shake. Yum! (In a world of $20 burgers I'd say Small Cheval and their $10 burgers is a relative bargain.)

Came in on a Sunday around 6:30 to try a shake! This location is so cute! Staff was very friendly and my shake was ready within a few minutes! The shake of the month is key lime pie so I had to try! This was amazing. The ice cream is sooo good, it's custard like and it had graham crackers. The key lime flavor was not overpowering, it was perfect! I need to come back to try a burger and truffle fries!

Good service, cozy inside with limited seating. I ordered the signature double cheeseburger, it was ok. I felt like it was missing something, perhaps I should've added more toppings. It also came a little undercooked for my liking. The fries and garlic aioli stole the spotlight. Crispy, flavorful, and satisfying. Overall, a decent spot, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

food: the burger was decent, would get again. the fries were very lack luster and the garlic aioli carried it. i like the peanut butter chocolate concrete i got but it was almost too much to finish service: na i got delivery ambiance: na

Tried this spot after hearing a lot of hype, and while the burgers were good, I think they might be a bit overhyped--they were definitely a little too bun-heavy for my taste. That said, the truffle sauce was delicious, and I'd definitely recommend getting it to dip or fries in or even dip your burger in for some extra flavor. Parking can be a bit tricky since it's all street parking, but the location by the lake is a nice bonus. Overall, a solid burger spot, but there was just way too much bun.

    Are there seating?

    Yes! Indoor and outdoor.

Do they offer veg burger also?

According to Small Cheval, their fries are not vegetarian either. They cook in beef fat. https://www.yelp.com/questions/small-cheval-are-these-burgers-also-cooked-in-pork-as-they-are-a-au-cheval-or-is-there-an-option/oTUcDvZfTrjA2ABdAednbg

All the premier dinners come with salad, cheese, fondue, and the chocolate fondue - You are just choosing what protein you would like. The Prince Geja combination has a little bit of everything. However, we most liked the seafood which includes lobster and the scallops were to die for! Also the beef also cooks well. Favorite dipping sauce included the pimento mayo, chimichurri, and garlic butter. The cheese fondue is quite rich and the bread is quite filling so maybe get as much cheese as you can on each piece of bread. The chocolate fondue, I think is actually the best course as the Belgium chocolate melts so well and has a decadent but not overly sweet flavor. It pairs well with all that is provided for dipping, which includes poundcake, rice Krispies, strawberries. They also have some liquor that they light on fire at first so you can roast the marshmallows. It is such a well thought out experience. Service flows very well from two waiters who take your order set up your fondue pots for each course, but be prepared to spend at least 2 hours on this experience. Check out the Groupon but also I read a review that they just tack on the extra $50 so it's not really too much of a savings. Not sure if this is true.

Also appreciated that they were accommodating for the vegetarian in our party. Everything except the cheese course can be made vegan friendly as well. The service was top notch! Appreciated that they called me ahead of time to confirm our reservation and ask about food allergies. All the staff was incredibly helpful and attentive. They were quick to refill items and answer any questions we had. The location is classic fondue restaurant, cozy and romantic. However, also perfect for catching up with a friend. I love the history in this place and really enjoyed the mood lighting. Pricing was fantastic for the quality of service, food, and drinks! Look forward to many happy returns!

And that's because the menus were being printed with a personalized birthday message! Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and struck the perfect balance of checking in without being overbearing. The mussels (provençal-style) were delicious and enough to share among three people. The truffle-parmesan fries: We couldn't tell if they were too salty or just salty enough, but somehow we couldn't stop eating them! I ordered the baby wedge salad with chicken, and while the chicken looked small at first, it ended up being a large enough portion to last the salad. I came here with three others and we all ordered different things from the brunch menu along with a few drinks. The atmosphere here is open, modern, and pretty eye catching, we all heard a few negative comments about brunch here and rather than just taking words of advice we came anyways. To be honest we should've went elsewhere, the only thing about the food that actually seemed to have any flavor was the fries and even they were a little salty like my wallet when we left LOL The Jumbo (not so much) Lump Crab Benedict at $25 was honestly boring lacking any flavor also it didn't even come with potatoes I ended up sharing my Lincoln Park Turkey Club that was good but even it was pretty basic at $21, the Burger at $21 literally looked like something off the kids menu the bun was bigger than the patty LOL and the Blackened Chicken Caesar at $19 was more like an appetizer size and the chicken at least it was juicy not dry. Other reviews about brunch here seem to be about the same and honestly I think it's funny they don't even try to elevate their food when so many say about the same things. I think the only reason why people come to this place is 1. It's located in Lincoln Park and 2. that makes it a trendy spot to eat. So why bother fixing anything when it's just trendy and flavorless Their brunch is mediocre but apparently dinner is where it's at. However after the experience with brunch I'm not even sure I would even go back. Come here for the staff eat at your own expense maybe your food will have flavor or not but honestly do what you want and keep it trendy

I really wanted to like it; this was a nine-year anniversary dinner. Service was really attentive and friendly and I did appreciate that they brought out specific utensils for me as a left-handed person, never saw that before! The restaurant felt a bit bare and sterile, I think I was maybe expecting a little more decor on the table for a Michelin star restaurant. To echo several of the reviews below, the salad was awkward to share and scanty, the soup was good but the bread served with it felt like an afterthought, the sturgeon wasn't anything special though the sauce was quite good, and we are pretty sure the cut of beef was not wagyu or if it was it was not cooked the right way. The beef was the most disappointing part, I couldn't even chew through all of it. The add-ons were the best part - pasta was great and our dessert was delicious. But the rest of the meal was unfortunately mediocre. Hoping that others have a different experience with the regular menu!

I love that the tables are widely spaced out so you don't feel like you're on top of another party. I loved the bowls everything was served in, and the silverware was unique. I don't think anything blew me away like I was expecting which was disappointing. We had the caviar supplement, which they accidentally gave us two of (amazing), which was good but also didn't blow me away. I wasn't the biggest fan of the flavors of the soup but that's probably a personal problem. The sturgeon and wagyu were alright. I wish I left being amazed but I left thinking I wouldn't come back, not even for RW again. I think my favorite bite of the night was the sticky date cake. I think it was the most flavorful but it wasn't the best dessert I've ever had. It lacked SOMETHING but I couldn't tell you what.
