Never had a Chicago style hot dog before and that was something on my Chicago bucket list during my recent trip. No idea how this compares to other places in the city but the one I got here was everything I hoped for and more. Top tier hot dog. Even if the bun was split in two and the whole thing was falling apart. My son got a cheese slider and we each got a drink and shared a small bag of fries. All together the total came to $26.05. It was incredibly crowded; it was hard to squeeze into the shop to order. But once we did, the food came out relatively quickly and we were lucky to get a table outside in the shade where it was quite pleasant. Just a block off of Michigan Avenue so easy to get to. Would definitely return the next time I'm in town and would recommend to others.
Devil Dawgs was a great stop! Service was fast, there were plenty of menu options to choose from, and everything came out quickly. It's a small spot with outdoor seating, but it has a laid-back vibe that makes it enjoyable. The hot dogs were delicious, and the cheese curds were rich, buttery, and a perfect side. Overall, I really enjoyed my visit and would definitely come back to try more items from the menu. If you're in the area and craving a great hot dog, this place is worth checking out!
This hotdog place is a stand inside a building leading up to Navy Pier. We tried the local famous chicago hot dog. It was decent, and fast. We had no issues and it checked out box to try the chicago hot dawg. It happened to be a time in my diet when I wasn't able to eat seeds. Don't hate me but I traded the poppy seed roll for a pretzel roll. It was a good substitute, but I imagine the poppy seed roll would have been much better.
Delicious. Chicago dog would maybe be better with a poppyseed bun but still hit the spot. Quick service.
Recommended by a friend who is a local. Came around 12:30 on Wednesday early June. Ordered right away, not too busy. Was able to get a seat outside. I can see this place getting really busy, very popular. Ordered the Chicago dog, first time trying. It was amazing! Loved all the toppings. If you're really hungry order two. Fries were ok, wish I would have gotten the tater tots. Great place to come after walking along Michigan Av. and/ or visiting Hancock tower.
When in Chicago you gotta try the dogs! Devil dawgs has a great selection of dawgs and also makes a darn good milkshake. Try them sometime service is quick as well!
When in Rome, right? I was told by a local to not go to a chain restaurant for a Chicago hot dog. Locals support local here and I see why. The Chicago dog was not basic dog at all. It had plenty of toppings, most noticeable was the famous relish. I don't know how to explain it but there was an explosion of flavor in each bite. It's not something that can be easily replicated. Must be portions of the topping to dog. Definitely a must try. Also tried the burger just for a comparison or the experience. It was a pretty good size. Interesting flavor but not as much wow factor as the hot dog. Fries weren't anything special to me. On the soggy side which I know some people prefer. Standing room only inside. You're surrounded by others eating or waiting. Counter of condiments available to help yourself. Do not expect fine dining but expect good food.
Service was very fast. Hotdog was average, toppings were delicious. Tried the Chicago style. Outdoor sitting area, tables and chairs were clean.
Didn't pay attention to any hype surrounding chicago hot dogs but went to try one and I get the hype now. These were freaking incredible. Icelandic dog was the best with the crispy onions. Green chili and cheddar dog was delish too what a classic combo. And the Chicago classic dog felt balanced and fresh. Need more now.
I stand by my initial review of the devil dawg but I wanted to provide an update. The owner contacted me because my review of the devil dawg was not stellar and she offered to refund my order. Above anything else I can certainly appreciate the customer care. When I return to Chicago I'll be sure to have the Devil Dawg on Rush Street as a must go spot. I'll at least know this spot aims to please its patrons. Thank you Dena and I look forward to an opportunity to try the devil dawg again.
Glad to finally lay hands on a Chicago style vegan dog. The bread was super soft, vegan dog was amazingly juicy and packed 20g protein. The Chicago style toppings were mega tart and acidic, with the relish being tart too, I enjoyed it, but thought it was a little too one dimensional. Definitely worth trying once, when in Chicago. Service was quick, you order up front in tablets. Everything's Togo with tables up outside for you to sit down and eat your togos.
Food is served quickly, Clerk is friendly and takes your order quick. Casual ambiance. Wanted to try out Chicago Style, too me it tastes like any regular hotdog. I didn't order fries. I ordered the Hank beverage vanilla root beer.
My friend was visiting from San Francisco and she wanted to try a Chicago dog so I took her to Devil Dawgs. Devil Dawgs makes the best Chicago dog I've ever had! So fresh and flavorful. She is pescatarian so it was awesome that she was able to get a veggie dog Chicago style. She also had the Icelandic Dawg which she said was very good as well. My Chicago dog came out very fast but her veggie dog took about 10 minutes. I love how the location is close to magnificent mile so it was easy to grab the dogs then go back to shopping. If you need to take someone to get a Chicago dog I highly recommend Devil Dawgs!

Shoutout to my friend for showing me Devil Dawgs cuz wow what a find! The spot is tiny, so ordering can get a little hectic when it's busy, but trust me, it's worth it. I went for the Big Chicago Dog and wow it really hits the spot! The staff behind the counter is awesome, working fast and keeping the energy up. If you're in Chicago and love hotdogs, this place is a must-stop! read more

Came here on a Friday evening. Ordered online and that was a great idea because the restaurant was packed by the time we got there. We were able to get a table outside. There are a few high chair seats inside, but tough when it's crowded. Got a Chicago dog, a Maxwell Street Polish, and a strawberry Oreo milkshake. First time trying either type of hotdog. The Chicago had a lot of sour/tangy elements. The peppers on the polish were spicier than I thought they would be. The hotdogs were great, had a nice snap to the casing and good flavor. We split both hotdogs between three people. The milkshake was so good. read more
Was craving a Chicago dog while in the Magnificient Mile area, and found this gem! We got the Chicago Dog and the Big Chicago Dawg. I personally liked the smaller Chicago Dog better cuz it was easier to eat and the ratio of the hot dog to bread was perfect. But both were great and I'd recommend. While the food was tasty - it was a bit cold and items fell apart making it challenging to eat. Definitely a good to stop to compare against other hot dog joints. The staff was friendly yet a bit monotonous. Really funky indoors with seating outdoors. In winter - you won't be able to enjoy a meal here bc there's only counter space. read more

I was craving a Chicago dog and this was convenient to our subway stop. This is a pretty cool spot with a massive menu. They had some high top seating along the window but most customers were taking their food to go. The line was short and I was enjoying my food within 5-10 minutes. They had no problem making a plain dog with ketchup for my 3 year old either. The Chicago dog was exactly what I needed and it was delicious. The bun did fall apart pretty fast but that was my only complaint. It was a true authentic and traditional Chicago dog. They also had a great drink selection in the cooler and he gave me a colder one from behind the counter. We will definitely come back again. read more

I love my Chicago dog and every time I am back in town I get my fill of it. Always liked Devil Dawgs and the place never disappoints. I always end up at the Gold Coast location and it just feels right. Nothing fancy about the place. Walk in and order on the kiosk and wait. You can eat on their patio tables or dine inside at the window bar top and enjoy the AC. The Chicago dog with everything on it is the best way to enjoy a a hot dog and nothing comes close to it. If you are around the mag mile, come down to Devil Dawgs and grab two.....otherwise you may end up in line for a second one after you down the first one! read more

Just a tourist exploring Chicago dogs... I have actually been here twice and after the 2nd (more positive) experience, I think I can say they do excellent hot dogs here. LOGISTICS A convenient location near Magnificent Mile that is across for the Water Tower Place. Order at the counter and food is cooked to order, otherwise there is an option to order online. No indoor seating as the inside is purely for ordering / waiting for your food order. There is limited seating outdoors but something to keep in mind if the weather is poor. People are really good about eating their food quickly and shuffling, so please be considerate and wait for your food to show up before saving a table. Slight disclaimer... the speed in which your food come out may be hit or miss... I have only been here twice, but during my last visit on Memorial Day, our order took over 45 minutes for 2 Chicago Dogs and fries from when I ordered. Had I reviewed this place back then, I would have given it 3 stars because no hot dog is worth waiting that long. It didn't even look that busy during our visit, as 3 other parties before us were waiting similar times. Fortunately on my 2nd visit in the fall, the food only took about 10-15 minutes for the same order... so it must have been bad luck that Memorial Day. FOOD Chicago Dog: Hits all the marks for a Chicago dog with the pickle and onion - I think it had more finesse than what you get at a Portillo's. Good snap on the hot dog (advertised as locally made) and great pickles! Big Chicago Dog: Honestly the same as above but with a much larger, meatier hot dog. A good option if you want a bigger hot dog in general with the Chicago fixings. Bag "O" Fries: Chicago sure likes it French fries with hot dogs... of the fries I tried during my visits. They're soft with a slightly greasy texture and light seasoning... but they still have a crisp end that makes them addicting. If you've ever been to Seattle, they're reminiscent of Dick's Drive-In fries. For 2 people, one Bag "O" Fries felt like enough. OVERALL Glad my 2nd visit to Devil Dawgs was a lot more positive than my Memorial Day visit. It was a nice option for exploring local eats as a tourist... especially as I explore Chicago dogs. It costs a little more than Portillo's, but the quality is better which you are paying for, and I think they have better French fries than Portillo's. read more

I ordered Devil Dawgs on DoorDash after not eating all day, so I was definitely hungry and excited to try a variety of things! Here's what I got: * Two Devil Dawgs * Two Sliders * Cheese Fries * A side of their signature Devil Sauce For the hot dogs, I tried the It's Not a Corn Dawg, based on a friend's recommendation, and it was my favorite thing I ordered. If you're getting a hot dog, this is a must-try! I also got the Chicago Dog because I wanted to see how theirs stacked up, and it was solid--classic and satisfying. For the sliders, I went with the Bacon and Cheese Single Slider and the Elvis Slider. The Elvis Slider caught my attention because it includes peanut butter, which I had to try. While it was unique, the peanut butter was a bit underwhelming, and it tasted pretty similar to the regular Bacon Slider. Both were good overall, but I'd probably just stick with the Bacon Slider next time and/or try another one they're too similar. The Cheese Fries were great--tons of fries with plenty of cheese. As for the Devil Sauce, be warned: it's spicy! If you like heat, it's a great addition, but keep that in mind if you're sensitive to spice. Overall, I'd say Devil Dawgs is right on par with Portillo's, but it's a nice change of pace if you want specialty hot dogs and some interesting options. It is a little pricey, but for the quality and variety, I think it's worth it. No reason this place shouldn't get five stars! Highly recommend trying it out! read more

I ordered a couple items via UberEats and was very pleased! This was my first time having a "Chicago-Style" hot dog (vegan version) and I thought it was packed with flavor. The relish was an extremely green color, not what I was expecting but it tasted great. The pickles and sport pepper were great in balancing out the saltiness of the sausage. I also tried the Bag O Tots with a side of Awesome Sauce and Ranch. Your typical tots, but I thoroughly enjoyed them. If I was in Chicago again, I'd come back to try other variations of their vegan hot dogs! read more
If you are an outsider, and you're looking to make your Chicago experience whole, look no further. Devil Dawgs was so good and well worth the money. I had a Big Chicago Dawg and the toppings brought it to life as they were very fresh. We also ordered a side of fries and onion rings. They weren't as good as the dogs, but still worth ordering - especially with the Awesome Sauce. There was a little wait and plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy the beautiful weekend weather. I tried the Icelandic Dawg, Its Not a Corn Dawg, Bag "O" Fries with Cheese Sauce, and The Classic chicken sandwich. All of their food was great! I had them in the Vegan style hotdog and they came out amazing! I had the It's Not a Corn Dawg when I first arrived to River North and it was so good that I knew I had to try the other menu items before I left! The Icelandic Dawg was next level and their fries are really good. The chicken sandwich was ok, but I guess the main attraction are the hot dogs! The staff is super friendly and it's a nice a cozy hot dog restaurant! If you're ever nearby I'd highly recommend this place! read more
This is a great place to eat if you're looking for a great hotdog, burger, or sides. We had a large group and everything we ordered was good and fresh. The place is very small and cramped so it's geared for takeout, there is outside seating but unfortunately it was too cold the day we went there. The service there was great and the man taking our order was helpful. What I really appreciate about this place was that they didn't forget anything in our order. We had a very large order, over $70 worth of food. We added sauces to try and several apps. We had a total of 3 bags that were completely filled and our order was 100% correct. We had hotdogs, 2 different types of sliders, chicken tenders, cheese curds, and cheese fries. All of it was great. read more

VEGAN CHICAGO STYLED HOT DOG!! Made the walk from our parking ramp to this little spot and glad we did! They have two vegan hot dogs which is plus. Really small inside but there's outdoor seating. The service was quick but they was a family that ordered after us and got their food before we did (we only had two things, and they had five). It seemed like our bag was waiting there and the cashier just waited awhile to give it to us. Not sure what happened there. read more
When In Chicago you know you have to have a Chicago dog. I wasn't sure how I would feel about it but man this was great and I'm thinking about coming back just for a dog ! The pickle was the perfect touch to the hot dog and I think that's what takes it where it needs to go. Perfect fries really can't get any better than this. First time trying out a Chicago hotdog! it was pretty good however I expected it to better. I did order it without any tomatoes or pickles. The vanilla shakes are pretty good, pretty rich & creamy. They do have vegan options which is a plus. You order inside and they give your food in a bag to take or eat outside. We went in on a Friday evening and it wasn't that busy and plenty of seating was available. Employees were super nice and patient. Would recommend this place! read more
My first trip to Chicago in June. I couldn't pass up getting a Chicago style hotdog. This place was hoppin' and worth the walk in the slightly humid weather. The workers behind the counter were busy filling orders and yet they still had time to be friendly. There is no inside seating. All the tables are outside in front of their building. There were plenty of umbrellas to keep the sun off of you while you enjoyed your hotdog or two. Great place to visit! read more
BOMB! The hotdogs were delicious! I literally ate here twice m my trip. The tator tots come in a huge portion, along with the fries. The chili on the hotdog has a little kick to it, which was so good. My suggestion, get your hotdog grilled or fried! They only have outdoor seating, so if you see a seat, snatch it! lol The cashiers were cool and have a system on how they operate with the customers, which makes ordering so easy. I am not a Chicagoan but this is probably one of the best dogs I've tried so far. I really enjoyed the mustard and relish flavor they add to the dogs. I ordered the chicago and it was a pretty hefty one but I enjoyed it. read more

Forgot to take a pic of the actual food but we got Chicago dogs and cheese curds! First time trying both and will say the curds were better than the dogs. I went during lunch time and it was crowded! The have to tablets to place an order or the person at the register can take your order. The inside isn't big and have a table near the window where you an eat standing up or sit outside on the sidewalk. The food was good. But not $32 good. Pretty expensive. I order a Chicago dog and a polish with fries and two drinks. read more
