Whiskey Six BBQ had been on our radar for a while. When we arrived at opening, the restaurant was nicely decorated for the seasonal winter holiday making it feel cosy. We were told next time to make reservations if you're looking to eat in for lunch and/or dinner. Otherwise you might miss out of their fresh bbq brisket and ribs. If you're walking-in just FYI they have a limited menu. We were lucky to get a seat and also some brisket. And we also tried the smoke house burger. I wouldn't say it was the best BBQ nor what I was personally looking for. But for this local business making bbq every morning for locals and visitors a like. With bookings month in advance. With a good looking supply of spirits you'll surely have a good time. Would have love to try more items! Phoned ahead to make a reservation for 3, we were told it was all good. Arrived on time and apparently they couldn't server 3. Said we had a reservation, his answer was "yes and no". Not sure what that was supposed to mean, but they wouldn't let us stay for dinner. Flew in from out of the country, makes me wonder if there were other reasons for not seating us. read more

We were able to get a reservation within half an hour for 2 of us. The food was amazing, we had the brisket The place is very cozy as there are only about 6 tables. Rustic decor is quite inviting. Took about half an hour for the food to come which I think is very reasonable as the owner is the server, bartender and the cook (I assume). Only local alcohol is served and food is all inhouse made. Portions are quite reasonable. I was full but no room for dessert. read more

Family owned business along Renfrew Street, Its been here for a while but i have not noticed it until a friend asked me to review the place. I went one lunch time, unfortunately that day is for pick up only but the owner was very nice to let me in and took photos. Neat and nice BBQ joint in town the owner Marc Wicks is very friendly I even asked him to be in the picture and asked him i will post it on social media, he is so okay with it he even provided me with the business phone number. For checking in Yelp provided me with a free kenebe fries, the owner also gave me a free potato salad in the house. Brilliant concept, 2 tables for outside seating, small place maybe 10-15 heads. Interir decors are Canadian inspired ( see attached photos) very clean and for me classy, alcoholic beverages is available. Affordable with innovative sandwiches in the menu...I saw a jackfruit burger from the choices. Based on recommendation and popular dish in here I ordered the whiskey brisket sandwich, I loved the tender slices of beef with some special sauce made them into a sandwhich, amzing taste, so filling and smells good...I actually salivate from the smell hahahahha. The potato salad was very good too. What else can you ask for? Friendly and excellent service plus specialty sandwiches.... I will be back on my next day off because I am dreaming of that jackfruit burger.... Support our local restaurants I recommend this place to my co-yelper and all vancouverites to try. "My meal was perfect" - My boyfriend AND there's a CHECK IN PERK of Free Fries (that were GREAT!) We came here last night after my boyfriend had talked endlessly about wanting to try this place out and lucky for him, I had an errand to run nearby. The place is very cozy with plaid pillows, taxidermy deer and birds, very cute napkins and simply the whole vibe! They have quite an extensive drinks list (I mean they ARE called Whiskey Six) so you better believe they have a good selection of Scotch, Rye and Bourbon. The cocktails caught my eye. Mine was delicious - I got the Electric Currant so ladies (or gents) who aren't into too boozy tasting beverages.. This one was AMAZING. My boyfriend got the West Coast Old Fashioned and it was great. Near the end of our night we ordered a Three Kingdom's Hefeweizen which was smooth and drinkable. Nice to see their huge selection of local craft beers, too! While we waited for our drinks, I checked in and was pleasantly surprised that there was a check in perk of free fries which was perfect. I got the pulled pork sandwich and my boyfriend got the beef brisket. We wanted a side so the fries were a perk! We also decided then to get the smoked chicken wings. The Smoked Chicken Wings were SO tender and such a unique way of cooking. They were piping hot and with the Whiskey House Hot Sauce and Whiskey BBQ Sauce they were phenomenal. I really really liked that Whiskey BBQ Sauce. So good for dipping anything and the hot sauce was also tasty! I liked my boyfriends Beef Brisket sandwich a bit more (and he said brisket is super hard to make on your own so there's food for thought for you when you're deciding on what to order) so I really recommend that! The pulled pork was good but I don't know if it stood out more than any other pulled pork sandwich I got but it was still tasty. We came in to Whiskey Six on a whim as we did not want to cook on a weeknight and were tempted by photos online. It was an Indian summer day so we rode over on our scooters, navigating some side streets from Mount Pleasant, not knowing that reservations were needed. We were disappointed (then delighted) to see the sandwich board outside announcing that reservations were needed, but we were greeted by the owner himself who accommodated us but also explained his business - he sources from local farmers, distillers, and brewers and his main source of revenue is catering and special events. His food isn't fast food, which I think people get confused about when they talk about barbecue. Barbecue requires patience, care, and a good source of heat, while grilling is a fast way of preparing food. The proprietor takes care in sourcing his ingredients and products, and in preparing his brisket, ribs, meats and sides. I had a melt in your mouth brisket sandwich and instantly regretted saying that I would share with my companion. It was slightly fatty and very moist. I also had an old fashioned, beautifully prepared. The boyfriend had the beef burger that looked run of the mill, but was full of intensely satisfying flavours. The room is small but cozy, with industrial stools, shelving and decor spotted with tasteful touches and taxidermy. There is an impressive collection of whiskey, spirits, and bourbon. I am so happy that we found Whiskey Six, and we are planning on visiting again with friends to try the platter for 4. I am so glad to have found this place. It's a cozy little place on Renfrew street across from a highschool. I grew in this neighbourhood so I felt right at home coming here. It's relatively new. Approximately two years. I originally came here to try their Dine-Out 2019 menu but opted to order off the regular menu instead. I called ahead to reserve and when we walked in our table was ready with cold water already poured into the glasses. Once we placed the order, the food arrived in a timely manner. The pulled pork was juicy and tender. The Brisket was melt in your mouth Heaven. Portions were a tad small for what you pay, so I would consider this place a once-in-a-while treat. Nice little BBQ place in the middle of nowhere. Parking is available right along Renfrew. The spot is quite cozy and has a hunting lodge theme, with all the wood trim and the stuffed wildlife against the wall. Staff were friendly and professional. Food is decent but boy is it expensive. My buddy and I cleaned out their H44 platter (serves 4, $90) with room to spare. That includes eating all the bread too. Also, why would a platter for 4 only have 2 pieces of chicken? For this price, I'm sorry, I can think of several other BBQ options in town. Hence the 3 stars instead of 4. For this reason I also have trouble justifying a return visit. Wallet simply hurts too much. Food quality is decent, though I wish they gave us something other than sandwich bread for the bread. read more

We've gotten take out as my bf wanted to simply eat at home for his bday. For my next visit, would love to try eating in as it has a cozy interior decor. And the owner was really friendly and let us know how long it would take to get the takeout. Definitely recommend the beef briskets. Omg this is the best beef brisket a I've ever tasted. They were so succulent, they melted in my mouth. I ordered a small portion for myself which although looked small, was really filling with all the tender fat in the beef. Easily the worst BBQ I've ever had. This is Vancouver, the bar for what qualifies as good BBQ is extraordinarily low, which is why Memphis Blues has been able to operate for years in this city. After trying Dixie's, which is the closest I've had to real USA-quality BBQ in Canada, I wanted to try this place. It's a real East Van joint, with a cool atmosphere, an impressive local beer selection and Portland-esque decor. The good vibes ended there. I ordered the half rack of ribs, my buddy ordered the brisket. The food took absolutely forever, which was odd since there was only one other table. The ribs tasted like nothing but sugar. It reminded me of the ones at Montana's, which is a very bad sign. My buddy's brisket wasn't any better. SMALL portions (although I don't know why you'd want large portions of crappy food), the biscuit side was ok if you slathered enough butter on it, the cole slaw was the highlight, which isn't a good sign for a BBQ place. Had a wonderful birthday meal here, 4 of us shared the H44 with lots of leftovers. Our vegan family was also able partake and enjoyed a vegan burger meal. The whiskeys Marc recommended were delicious and despite being the only worker/owner he did amazing!! We needed wheelchair access, the only suggestion I could give is to level the exterior of entry grade to allow less sharpness and remove the wall at the door to allow straight entry versus a 45 - 90 degree right turn on entry. There is plenty of light, the family centred seating layout and being able to talk across the table was very much appreciated. Marc was a genial host and we will return in future. Just wish we could drop in on an adventure day as last minute versus reservations. Highly recommended Whiskey Six BBQ to others but don't want have too many as won't be able to get a reservation if too many people are aware of how great it is!!! read more

Really wanted to like this place. Been looking forward to visiting. Me and roommate sprung for the big platter for 4 people. Boy we were just underwhelmed. Pretty much everything was underseasoned and bland. We were super surprised that the seasonal veggies were just boiled packaged baby carrots with some butter (despite that disappointment they still ended up being the best side we got). The biscuits were... small tough and salty. Too little leavener or stove was too cold when you put them in. Mac and cheese... super bland. All the sides were just... the quality i would expect from the safeway deli section. For some reason half of the brisket we got was cut with the grain instead of against it, so the brisket (though it seemed cooked well) was stringy and chewy. Chicken was dried out and unpleasant. I get that you're smoking the meat... But that's why southern bbq slathers things in sauce. Smoking food leaves a bitterness on the outside of the food.. so you gotta do something with it, at least brush a little vinegar and oil on it after. You know we're not made out of money. Dropping more than a hundred dollars was a big deal and we were really looking forward to trying a local restaurant and eating some good food. But 4 days later most of the food is still leftover hanging out in the fridge. Not a good sign. I don't know if they were having an off night. They were slammed when I put in the order (I picked up an hour after and they were quiet when i got there). But if what I got was baseline quality for them, I would not be a patron. read more

Had high hopes for this place but was utterly disappointed. I got the beef brisket platter and my gf got the pulled pork platter. Her biscuit was under baked and doughy on the inside and her Mac and cheese was lacking cheese so it tasted like boiled macaroni. My beef brisket was decent as it was very tender. They gave us 4 sauce containers which contained literally 1/4 a pump in each and was gone literally after 3 dips. Perhaps it's better to just dine in? Covid times? read more

The ribs were tender fall off the bone. Yet no sauce on them .When I asked for sauce ,was charged .50 for a horrible tasting ,little dish of what basically tasted like molasses . Went to this restaurant on a Saturday night and had an amazing meal of pulled pork, fries and Mac and cheese- yum! The portions were quite big (Mac and cheese was a side) and I had to bring leftovers home. The people I was with also loved their meals, the ribs and the pulled pork sandwich. Lots of flavour and INCREDIBLY fresh. Such a treat! (Also a huge list of East Vancouver based beers to choose from- not pictured online). We loved the motif and the overall feel of the restaurant. It's quite small, but I really liked that because it wasn't too noisy at all and had a really friendly feel. Our waitress was nice also. We just got home from our night at Whiskey Six and I could barely wait to write this place a rave review! I made a reservation for 14 people, and Marc was very accommodating and great to communicate with. When we first arrived, we were a little disappointed to see that only one person was working. I learned shortly that the server had called in 3 mins before his shift was to start, so Marc had to pick up the slack. He did an absolutely fabulous job!!! He made our drinks, served them quickly, we never ran out of water, and he really took great care of our table. Not only did he serve our table, he also had other tables to serve as well! Service aside, the food was very good, and everyone at our table was happy with their meals. The atmosphere is to die for. Adorable, intimate, trendy, and warm. Not to mention a great location. I really like this new neighbourhood place. Brunch, dinner and drinks and they understands the gluten intolerance problem, offering gluten free items. Not just salads, like so many other places, but delicious creative meals that satisfy and make you want to return. This is a quality owner operated business. The pulled pork is yummy, the eggs bennies are made on Gfree corn bread, the cocktails are good and they offer local beer. The front window opens up for fresh air and the space inside is sweet and simple. Also, the music is kept at a nice background level, not ear numbingly loud. This place is a gem. Owner is so friendly, and obviously passionate and committed to local organic foods. The space itself is beautiful and cozy. I have been here a few times and all the food has been excellent. Best briskett I've had in this city. Baked beans are my favorite! Potato salad is perfect, not overly creamy like so many other places do. The platter for four is a great share item with friends. I feel lucky to have this in my 'hood. This cozy little BBQ joint is well worth the journey for those that don't live nearby. Located on a small business strip on Renfrew St between Adanac & Venables in Hastings-Sunrise, one of Vancouver's oldest neighborhoods. Quirky interior, nice full bar, extensive craft beer menu, inexpensive BBQ options, friendly service, tasty food & super clean washroom. We recently stopped in for a Happy Hour beer, even though we weren't really hungry, we couldn't resist the menu. So we ended up ordering a chicken burger to share and a side of wings. I will go back and just order the side of wings anytime with anything, they were to die for. Those wing tips! Marc the owner was there, what a dude! Friendly and accommodating. I will be back. Spectacular. Super intimate, super cozy, super awesome comfort food! The brisket is amazing! The pulled pork is great (not dry like all other pulled pork in this city). My friends and I split the platter and almost finished it. we walked away with a small box of beans and coleslaw.. did I say walk? I meant wheelbarrowed (we were in a serious meat coma and couldn't walk) On top of that we had several cocktails that were spectacular. The front of house guy was very accommodating and very attentive. It's really great to see a place such as this be so transparent with where everything comes from, bringing in locally made, grown and raised ingredients! Great place to get real Southern style BBQ in Vancouver. Our group was served very well by the owner. Ordered up the platters and everything was done just right. The brisket was tender and perfectly smoked, the ribs not overwhelmed with rub or sauce, pulled pork was very tasty, and chicken flavourful with a nice spice crust. The sides were well prepared and the beans very popular with the boys. But the real bonus was how well we were treated by the management. He had his hands full with our large group but he was professional to the max. Highly recommend this gem on Renfrew. read more

I like my BBQ but just didn't enjoy their ribs. They were dry-rubbed which was not what I was expecting - made for a dry meat experience and rather tasteless. The rib meat was cooked quite nicely but the dry-rub just wrecked that positivity. Wife had pulled pork and she didn't like hers either. The sides - coleslaw, fries and Mac and Cheese - were good. Super cozy spot, tucked in a relatively quiet section of Renfrew St. We had the full rack of ribs and upgraded one of our sides to chicken wings. Ribs were fall off the bone and the spices were perfect. Wings had a nice dry crisp outside but weren't dry on the inside. Maybe not the most authentic BBQ on the planet, but I'll definitely be going back to try the Briskey following some recommendations from friends. Worth checking out! read more

The food was good. The platter was more than enough for 4 people. Unfortunately we went on a beautiful hot day, which meant the sun was beating in on us. There is little circulation in the small room and the whole situation was uncomfortable. Service was also extremely slow. It took over 45 minutes for our food to arrive. Wow... This... Is... Damn... Good... BBQ. I am from the US and I've been through Texas where they do BBQ right. I've been to well over 100 BBQ places and I gotta say that this one gets it right. I had the ribs and the brisket and both made me wish I could eat more. Smoked for 7 hours and packed with flavor, the food came out tender, juicy and delicious. They were all out of cornbread so I had the Cole slaw and potato salad - both were fantastic. If you truly love BBQ, you gotta eat here. 5 stars for sure.
