The rib ends tasted like pure essence of BBQ, loads of flavor and smoke. The Mac and cheese was very creamy and ate well. Service was fast and friendly.

The Hubbs is a smoker and approaches his BBQ meals as a challenge! First, we like the ambiance - this is a franchise location with a mom and pop feel. Lots of Memphis-blues legends on the wall. We appreciated the variety of offerings. We started with a bowl of Burgoo - a very meaty stew with chicken pork and beef. It came with a small side salad and cornbread. We found out the beef ribs wouldn't be ready for an hour, so we ordered the rib-ends and cornbread to hold us over. The rib ends were not my favorite, but they were decent. The bbq sauce on the side was good and peppery. The cornbread was moist and crumbly and served with a side of caramel sauce! Mind blown. We had a wonderful time talking with the Brazilian pit master, and Taiwanese cook! I love the diversity of cultures in this city! We ended with a single bone of beef rib and taste of their brisket. Both excellent. We love that they use a dry rub and gentle smoking with apple wood, then offer the sauces on the side. Since it was Mother's Day, they offered me a free beverage! Very nice. These are good people - give them a try.

best service, best smoked meats, renovated. good vibe. The best BBQ restaurant in town

Lunch Special (11am-3pm) Teriyaki Beef Brisket Bowl

*Lunch Special Review* I noticed listed on their sandwich board a number of rice bowl lunch specials and was intrigued at what may be offered. I opted for the Teriyaki Beef Brisket Rice Bowl to satisfy my yen for their usually succulent brisket. Served in a Japanese themed wide bowl, it consisted of jambalaya rice, mixed greens and a fist sized serving of chopped brisket. The teriyaki sauce was served on the side. I'm not quite sure how I feel about this special. On the one hand, it is very basic and exactly what is described on the menu; on the other, a little bit more creativity in presentation would've been more appealing. One thing I did have a problem with was the cold teriyaki sauce. I took that as meant to be a 'dressing' for the bowl, so I drizzled it over the rice and salad and mixed. The combo was decent albiet a bit odd. There was an expectation that the sauce be warmed and mixed with the brisket, but I guess even the chef dare not mess with the perfectly smoked goodness of the beef. The verdict: a work in progress. It is a great option if you want some bbq without entering the usual meat coma and sweats, but there is also so much potential for improvement. Personally, if the brisket was served sliced instead of chopped, it wouldn't be as obvious that they are just creative in selling their off cuts (albiet still delicious) of brisket as a lunch special.

B and I came after intense labour work. We were super tired and super hungry. We ordered: 1. BBQ Ribs 2. Sausage link 3. Beef Brisket The food was delicious. Portion was ok compared to other bbq places. We had a whole rack of ribs and it only came 6 bones. Which is somewhat small. The sausage link was ok. The beef brisket was super oily and fatty. It was tasty with all the grease. Also note that their bbq items are on the burnt side. I liked the BBQ sauce that came with all the food item. So note is that don't order a full rack of ribs. It's a rip off.

    Memphis Platter

My friend RAVED about the platter from here, so I was excited to check it out, but was pretty disappointed. 75$ for a good amount of food, but it wasn't satisfying. The ribs and fries were good, but it pretty much goes downhill from there. The sausage, pulled pork and rib ends were alright, but it didn't make me excited to keep eating. If I'm gonna indulge and stuff my face with a platter of meat, it better be worth it, ykno? The brisket was a little chewy, and the chicken was pretty dry. Sides were alright as well, but the leftovers are still sitting in my fridge, untouched, so that speaks for itself. Overall, I can see this as a fun spot for some BBQ if you're in the area, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I got the daily special which was the beef ribs that day. This came with three ribs, BBQ sauce of course, BBQ pit beans, coleslaw , cornbread and potato salad. The meat on the ribs was easy to pull off , nice and tender. The BBQ sauce, which came on the side, was tangy and had just the right amount of sweet and savory tones. The pit beans were surprisingly smoky in flavor and had some nice chunks of the brisket meat in the mix. The coleslaw was not overly watery and was like any good coleslaw. The potato salad had egg in it and no much flavour but to me personally, I thought it had an off taste to it. Cornbread was a small square which I wish there was more of ! Instead of the potato salad, my partner got the fries as a side. Maybe a little salty but it had a nice seasoning to it. For $25 I think it was worth it, I came in hungry and left satisfied. Service was fast and staff was friendly and accommodating.

A famous BBQ place in town, we always order their Signature Memphis Blue Feast (2-4 people). Even if there are just two of us, cause we can pack the left overs and have more yumminess the next day. $70 for a big platter split between 4 is very good value. The feast includes brisket, chicken, pulled pork, sausage, ribs, rib ends, corn bread, cole slaw, potato salad, baked beans, fries and bbq sauce. I think their most outstanding item is still the brisket. It's fatty, tender, juicy and the Smokey flavour is permeated through every bite. Personally I don't like corn bread or rib ends, but everything else is done well. The decor is also very quirky, definitely very welcoming. The staff are also friendly, but it's also mostly self serve. They have been consistent with their food as well, as I've been back multiple times, and I think that's why they have multiple locations.

Came here for an early dinner after the wait at Jinya was too long. Sadly won't be leaving this place a stellar review - the food tasted reheated and the flavours were quite off! We tried the seafood platter as well as a full rack of ribs. For whatever reason ribs were soooo dry yet still greasy, and definitely tasted reheated. By the end of the meal I felt pretty nauseated by the ribs, there was just too much fat and greaseAs for the seafood platter, the catfish tasted like fried paper. The outer batter was tough and the fish was under seasoned. The only thing we really enjoyed was the Cajun shrimp, though I wasn't sure why it came in a bowl of oil. I quite enjoyed the Broadway Memphis but can't say I feel the same way about their Robson location. Sadly I'll be sticking with ramen the next time I'm in the area.

Wanted to try something different. There was a sticker that mentioned it won a couple of awards. (Okay, now you have my attention! Had the Memphis Platter(which supposedly feeds 2-3 people) We were 4 adults and one 7 year old.If you are not super hungry, it could feed 2 more. It is a meat lover's dream. The Brisket was outstanding! We bought the Platter because it was cheaper than buying individual plates. The sides were almost gone, so the take out plate was completely filled with meat. The waitress was pleasant and helpful with questions. Nice atmosphere, the PGA was playing on the screens.

Rib ends combo ($18.95). Meat was overcooked and dry.

One of my best friends was having her birthday party here and I was utterly confused that I'd never heard of this place, so much so, that I questioned her if it was the right spot..... I now admit, that I was in the wrong. The Shebeen is located through a little alley way behind the Irish Heather. You have to go through the actual restaurant to find it, so no wonder it's hard to find! It gave me total speakeasy feels. Our large group took over their little patio area pretty early on around 5:30pm and set up camp there until 10:30ish. It was fairly slow at the beginning, but as the night went on, the inside of the Shebeen filled up and this spot was bumpin'. They specialize in whiskys (hence their name), so I was ordering old fashioneds left and right. I did also have a gin and tonic or two at the beginning of the evening. The old fashioneds were some of my favourite I've had in Vancouver. You can also order food through the Irish Heather menu. After a few drinks, I needed to put some food in my body so I ordered the curry fries. Wow, wow, wow. I was in saucy fry heaven. I need more of this in my life. Honestly, I'd come back just for this. Our servers (we had two checking in on us throughout the evening), were ROCKSTARS! Before I even had finished my drink, they were already checking in and asking if we wanted another... this resulted me in never having an empty drink, which I definitely felt the next day. Now that this spot is on my radar, I'll be back more often. Thanks for a great evening and here's to many more, Shebeen!

The pub interior was very reminiscent to the Irish pubs I frequented back in the day, when I spent time on the Emerald Isle: dark wood panelling, humongous selection of liquors and beers and bottles on the mirrored bar back, Guinness decor (posters and tchatchkies) interspersed with relics of various Catholic saints and deities. Wooden tables and chairs. Servers with genuine Irish accents. It felt like the real deal. As I write this, I am literally still dreaming of the Hong Kong Style BBQ Pork. It didn't just "eat" well; it dissolved into a decadent, sweet, fatty puddle of pure bliss. Walking in, the vibe is quintessential Chinatown: a bustling counter, a glass case showcasing glistening roasted treasures, and a seating area that trades fancy decor for pure, functional authenticity. We were clearly out of our element, probably looking like deer in headlights, but the staff met our confusion with warm smiles. Then came Bobby--the absolute heart and soul of this place. We walked in expecting the standard American-Chinese routine, but Bobby whisked us away to a cozy table and treated us like family. He started us off with a fragrant jasmine tea so naturally sweet and floral it didn't need a grain of sugar--perfect for a biting winter night. While we flirted with the Happy Hour menu, Bobby took the reins. You don't say no to a man with that much charisma and passion! On his expert recommendation, we pivoted to the Two-Meat Combo (BBQ Pork + Soy Chicken) with a side of their famous Roast Duck. The food arrived in a lightning-fast 10 minutes, but the real treat was Bobby's play-by-play on how each dish was prepared. You can taste the pride in every bite. The balance was masterclass: a symphony of sweet, salty, and umami. The meats were succulent, the skins were shattery-crisp, and the glazes were perfectly sticky. The undisputed heavyweight champion, however, was that Hong Kong BBQ Pork. Imagine the best "burnt ends" of your life, drenched in a caramelized, mouth-watering sauce that demands your full attention. We left Chinatown BBQ feeling more than just sated--we felt enlightened.
