This review is for last week (Saturday, Oct 26). The space is lovely, visually appealing and very-Instagram friendly. It can get a little stressful trying to get a table or seat during peak hours (it was the early afternoon) and feels like when you're trying to grab the last open seat on the train. The coffee was delicious (I had a latte, my boyfriend had a cappuccino)- but I was very, disappointed in the customer service. I understand it's busy, but we placed our order and were forgotten about (we only noticed because people in line after us were getting their orders). Then once we made them aware, they messed up the orders by adding oat milk to my boyfriend's order and not mine. I thought my drink tasted off but I was giving them the benefit of the doubt that maybe it was just a splash... until I tasted my boyfriend's! I didn't even bother bringing it up because I was halfway through my drink by that point. I won't be coming back. read more

Not internet friendly at all. Stay away if you're looking for a place to eat and work at. Had lunch for 20 bucks at one of their internet spots. After 1 hour I moved to another table, without these signs "No Laptops", with the impression I could work there. After 30 mins some barrista comes up and tells me I can't sit there with my computer, though NO SIGN on the table. Clearly, all other spots were occupied at that time so I had to leave. Ridiculous and unfriendly to ppl with a laptop who's spending money and looking for a calm space. The day before some homeless person came in and asked people for money, but he was free to roam around and terrorize the customers. read more

Devocion CAN be good. If you look past the great location and design, the coffee is extremely inconsistent. You can tell that they aren't dialing the machine in throughout the day for the espresso pulls. There's no excuse for the baristas here to not be trailed to properly measure and consistently pull good shots and serve drinks at the right temperature. read more

So I came to this place today after hearing great things. After making my way there in the rain, the girl at the counter watched me stand in line as she served another customer and then proceeded to serve someone who came after me. I brought her attention to it and she brushed me off and continued to help the following (white) customer. Needless to say, I left and supported another local business. read more

I saw this place mentioned in a news segment one morning and HAD to make a point to stop by to check it out. I love that the coffee is carefully sourced, purchased from smaller farms and brought frequently to the US and roasted on site. The ambiance is Ah-mazing! Lots of comfy seating, a kind staff, and a gorgeous living wall that is eye catching. Filled with natural light and the delicious aroma of freshly brewed coffee. Definitely a place worth stopping at, especially if you are visiting the neighborhood. Also - the bathrooms are clean. read more

This is a very Williamsburg cafe in Williamsburg. Very impressive space and decent price. I recommend you try the fruit tea. It took five to ten minutes for them to brew it, but the fresh taste and the fruity aroma from the first sip totally worth the wait. read more

One of the most beautiful cafes I've been to. It has a glass ceiling with plenty sunlight and is full of plants. There're plenty of seats. I would give the vide 5 stars while 3 stars for the coffee. All my friends were not impressed by how sour the coffee was. It's a shame that the coffee is not so good as the vibe, while I'll definitely go back if I'm in the neighborhood. read more

I'm so glad my friends and I were being spontaneous and stumbled up this coffee shop! The interior is beautiful! The aesthetics are all there, with a giant garden wall at the back and a glass ceiling for bright natural lighting - it's definitely a plus for us Instagrammers. This place is also spacious. It has comfortable couch seating for casual coffee catch-ups and small tables for people to enjoy coffee while working. Most importantly, the coffee here is delicious. I got the Red Barrel pour over and it was one of the best black coffees I've had. This coffee does not need any milk or sugar, it's perfect drank black. The flavor is full, smooth and not too acidic, which I prefer. This would definitely be my go-to if I lived closer! read more

On the rare occasion that I find myself crossing the continental divide between Manhattan and Brooklyn I make sure to stop at Devocion for an afternoon coffee, partly because this is a whole-day endeavor and one must not suffer too long from the deprivation of caffeine, and partly because this place is surreal. Devocion is one of those things in life that seems too good to be true, so good that every time I round Grand Street I half expect it to have evaporated into thin air. It's an oasis in a desert, really, because as soon as you enter the cafe you are greeted by a wall of jungle as the backdrop of this bright, airy, other worldly space. Everything is flooded with light, the studded leather couches, the wooden chest trunks, the hipsters in their ironic hipster beanies, and in a momentary lapse of focus you blink and wonder where you are. Be not afraid, the skylight overhead serves as a good indicator for the time of day. This is year 2015, planet earth. I can safely say that my thirst for visual beauty and gustaoceptive pleasure are all well quenched by this hideaway shop, which is the perfect setting for reading or writing a book. Beautiful, beautiful space. One of the most elegant designs for a café I've seen. Unfortunately the staff is some of the worst I've experienced in New York. I've had numerous experiences of staff snapping at me because they seem to be overwhelmed or grumpy, and twice haven't been able to get espresso drinks because the machine was under maintenance or being cleaned. read more

Good coffee, but pricey and only one size. They also didn't have flavored lattes.

I almost want to give this place a bad review because I like it that much and want to keep people away from this relatively new hidden gem. The coffee is amazing. They roast all of it in the store and to perfection. They use this amazing Gruyere cheese on their ham and cheese croissant that is to die for. My favorite part about this place is their plant wall. I sometimes sit next to it and when I think no one is looking, I caress the beautiful live plants and get my nature fix. The best time go is during the week days. It gets a bit crowded during the weekend and there's a lot of families with little kids running around. Cute for a cup of coffee with a friend, not as cute when you're trying to work. read more

Great place! They make great Colombian coffee (only other location is in Bogota) and they have an awesome pastries selection. The ambiance is great to relax or get some work done with a huge living wall of plants and an enormous skylight. There are tables or these huge comfy leather couches in the middle. Greenhouse like coffee shop closer to the water. Relaxed and chill environment with plenty of seating. Service is not rushed, they take their time making a good cup. The noise of coffee grinding echoes in the high ceiling lofty space and provides the right amount of white noise to work for a bit. It is pricey, not cheap, but it's a relaxing place. read more

This place has gone way downhill. First, Toro beans never seem to be available and they never want to pack it in the back when you ask and second, they stopped giving a free coffee when you buy a bag of beans. For 18 bucks , you'd think they would at least give you a cup o' Joe. I'll be bringing my business to Cafe Colombia, another local roaster. read more

The space itself was aesthetically pleasing (though, the wrong place to go if you're looking for 'cozy') and appeared to be clean. One of the most beautiful coffee shops I've been to with the green wall and open ceilings. Plus, nice couches! Nice relaxing spot to chillax with friends or to listen to some tunes while doing work on your laptop. Cold brew during the summer here is delish. Can't speak for their food but service can get a little slow sometimes. My friend ordered a sandwich and it took a really long time to come out, but they made up for it by giving her a full punch card for a free menu item so that was really sweet of them. read more

I went in to Devocion for the first time on a Late Monday Morning. It was pretty dead. There was no line and no one behind me. The barista was insanely obnoxious. He rushed me along from the start. I ordered a coffee and was considering buying breakfast but when I didn't hear his question, "would you like it for here or to go?" he repeated the question and then gave me the Spanish translation. As he rang up the order he said, "the translation is included with your order." My bill came to $3.25. I gave him $4.00 but then I realized I had a quarter. I said, "oh wait I have a quarter" and he replies, "...then you can give me the dollar." Not going back. read more

Sure, you could criticize this spot for jumping on the uber-cool, ultra chic, hipster transplant / australian tourist bandwagon...or you could just appreciate the fact that the decor is freaking lovely and any coffee shop that has A) a bit of seating outside (even if it IS facing Grand street) and B) actually has any hint of daylight reminding it's pale-skinned-hunched-shouldered freelance crew that yes, vitamin D is a necessary nutrient (I'm talking about the gigantic skylight in the ceiling here) should just be welcome in the neighborhood. No, it's not a "cozy" little spot, but it is nice. Great coffee, variety, and delicious food. Cold brew is smooth a bitter. They also have breakfast sandwiches, pastries, and other treats. I had the black ham and cheese sandwich on a croissant. It was fresh and delicious. Also had the parfait. It was fresh and delicious as well. Although this place is spacious, It's typically crowded since it's good. They have some seating outside as well. Recommend having someone wait for seats while another orders. read more

Nice place but didn't get my order right. It was a simple latte with oat milk. When order was called out, I asked if it was made with oat milk and barista who made it said no so I didn't take it. Then the barista who took my order said it was made with oat milk. They debated a bit, said they'd make me a new one, then changed their minds and just said it's made with oat milk. If you're not sure, just make a new one. Don't be lazy about it. I'm sure it wouldn't cost you anything to make a new cup but at least you're doing what's right by serving a customer what was actually ordered and paid for. read more
