We went with a mocktail and spinach, lobster, artichoke dip to start. They were good but I would have preferred the naan bread served warm with the dip instead of cold. We went with short rib risotto for our main. It was tender meat but a lot of mushroom sauce. And the risotto was underwhelming and not well seasoned and pretty bland. Server was friendly but it was so slow all night. We waited for 20 minutes for our bill after we were done eating. University of Dayton History Lesson Dewberry Farm, which consisted of 125 acres of orchards, vineyards, farm buildings and a mansion were sold to the Society of Mary in order to found the University of Dayton. Years ago when the Gem City was seeking a Brand Name Hotel, Marriott built near the University of Dayton, and this property is now owned by the University of Dayton. Given a 24-million-dollar renovation, the University of Dayton Marriott has become arguably Dayton's finest hotel. A decision was made to include a new dining center: Dewberry 1850 in the Marriott at the University of Dayton. We like the new symbol: Farm House with church steeple and a modified cross. We have much experience with the UD Marriott. When serving on National, Regional, and State conference committees, we have enjoyed several tastings at the Marriott, and have signed several contacts with this property. We are quite certain that Marriott and University of Dayton is keeping this new Dayton Gem as a hidden secret for the present. We like Dewberry 1850 in the Marriott at the University of Dayton. The servers are outstanding; the décor is excellent and modern; the menu and food is a huge plus (American dining.) Dewberry 1850 in the Marriott at the University of Dayton - we do not like; Front desk personnel are clueless concerning this restaurant; It is difficult to impossible to connect to the Dewberry 1850 in the Marriott at UD. All calls goto the Front Desk and are recycled to the Food and Beverage answer machine. Given the paucity of downtown restaurants for Shuster performances, Dewberry 1850 in the Marriott at UD is a very real answer (if one can connect to the restaurant.) For a very long time we have known that Marriott excels in the dining business, and we arrive for the breakfast/brunch buffet; this is a very similar Marriott buffet to the complimentary breakfast buffet which Marriott offers to business travelers, who hold Platinum Elite status. Dewberry 1850 in the Marriott at UD buffet is excellent. Our experience is that Haydee, our server is a long time Marriott employee, and Haydee enjoys Marriott guests. Haydee points out that our omelet chef has been making omelets for 25 years. Pretty decent experience for a hotel restaurant. For dinner, we had the salmon and pork. We also split the Caesar salad. All of the food was nicely presented, pretty efficient, and tasty. Nice wine and beer selection. We also enjoyed the buffet breakfast in the morning which I would describe as slightly elevated standard hotel breakfast buffet. Friendly staff. The service was first-rate and the food was tasty and generous! This restaurant is located in the Marriott hotel at the University of Dayton. The restaurant is quite attractive and well-maintained. Eschewing the buffet, I ordered the American breakfast combo off of the menu. Two eggs, sausage, ham, bacon, or Canadian bacon, a large mound of crispy and quite tasty hash browns, and a bread of choice. I went with two eggs over medium, sausage links, the delicious hash browns, a poppy seed bagel with cream cheese, and four sausage links. Everything was cooked perfectly and the portions were so generous that I could only eat half. It comes with coffee at no additional charge and the server left an individual carafe at my table so that I could manage my own refills. Took my beautiful wife and her sister to the Mother's Day brunch in Dayton, OH. No problems until I received an alert on my credit card. I paid $121.37 for the meal. THEN I received a FRAUDULENT charge from there for the amount of $278.47: "Recent Transactions MARRIOTT DAYTON DAYTON , OH May 12, 2024 $121.37 ---------------- WINGSTOP 303 CARSON , CA May 12, 2024 $278.47" That was the only place I used the credit card on that day, and have RFID protection. My credit card company immediately closed the card and issued a new one while the Fraud Department fully investigates. This is an unnecessary inconvenience; therefore I intend to file other reports for this fraud against Marriott Dayton/Dewberry 1850 so that no one else is so inconvenienced by the filthy actions of a criminal with credit card access there. This has been a tremendous inconvenience that spoiled what was to have been a great day in honor of Mothers. There is no record of a preexisting contact by this manager, nor is there any proper previous marking identifying such in Rick Miller's "quotation". Experience and observation has shown when one begins to needlessly lie on the little things, they are most likely preparing for the big lie. This occurred when I queried him concerning the repayment to my credit card for the Fraudulent $278.47 to which he replied "After further research, we did not find any evidence to support your claims. As my colleague, Mr. Carter stated in his May 30th email [sic], the hotel approved a refund in the amount of $127.68 [sic] as a gesture of goodwill. This refund was issued in the form of a check and was mailed out the same day." BBB has been made aware of additional relevant facts. Marriott is still due and owing at minimum $278.47 to my credit card company and me that was subjected to Fraud. Server was great! She helped keep the rating up. The chef/cook is where it fell apart. M burger was cooked perfectly. The lettuce was terrible. Rotted at the tip. Bun was over cooked and the bacon was not even warmed up and was tough. Probably left over from earlier in the day and was chewy. I don't think the cook put in the effort I was expecting for a $20 bacon burger. They chose poorly when picking a career. They aren't good this one. I probably will not be back. There isn't anything that is bad. Everything is good to amazing. The staff is great and very friendly. After a few days they definitely start to know you and your orders. After a long drive from Wheaton, IL, it was nice to settle in at a Marriott in a college town! Beautiful property, of course... Marriott standard! Although there are lots of nearby places to eat, I did not want to leave the hotel. My hubby and I took a while to decide from the many choices on Dewberry's menu, and ended up with the garden salad, a personal pizza and the crispy chicken salad, plus the brownie for dessert. All entreés were large and delicious. The dessert obviously came out of the freezer or refrigerator, and was this not a soft nor warm brownie. Still I give this restaurant 5 stars. Friendly service and well appointed interior. There was a big group of men at a large circular table who were not spaced 6 feet apart, and two men at the bar, also not spaced out. The restaurant staff is so nice but the past couple days really looks like they're struggling. I was disappointed to not see the usual employees like Al, Jordan, Sara, or Lauren. It looked like management was trying to run the bar and failing miserably. First my server said she couldn't get into the room where the sweet tea is because they lock it up and she couldn't find a manager. Same with my cocktail because they ran out of Sailor Jerry and they were too busy at the bar to get it. No bar back or anything I guess and they keep everything locked up. My server said my ticket didn't print to the back because their systems haven't worked since Microsoft failed months ago? So it took over an hour to get my food, it was pretty good when it came out though. I had the short rib risotto. My server said she had to go on break so she wouldn't get in trouble. So I waited over 30 minutes for the check. She ended up comping my meal but I said I'd pay for it anyways. She thanked me and said she really appreciated it because they are making them PAY OUT IF THEIR OWN POCKET for comped meals now!? How can you have broken systems and make your waitstaff pay for it? It looked like she ended up in tears later on. Their menu has been the same for a couple years. It would be nice to see a chef take more pride and create a new menu like they used to do regularly. read more

The concept is awesome but something was lacking in execution... LOVED the metal fry baskets for the fries. Presentation A+ and the fries themselves were good. Not too heavily salted, crispy on the outside and steaming on the inside. My Salmon was cooked very well and presented over shredded fried potatoes, and they weren't skimpy with the delish spicy pineapple chutney generously piled in top of my fish. The plates and settings were very stylish and our waitress kept our glasses filled. NOT LOVE the food was bland overall. Nothing really popped except for my spicy pineapple. We (6 in our party) were expecting explosions of flavor. Some people said good things so I decided to check out this marriot restaurant by my house. The house burger was 20 dollars, bland with sweet ketchupy tasting bbq sauce fried onions and no veggies. the bun was old and the meat seems to not stick together very well. If im paying 20 for a burger, I don't want my meat from gfs. the fries were inedible as a result of the amount of salt added. corporate vibes with business bros slappin 5 and talking da buiiizzzzz, asking for their miller lites in a chilled glass, that sort of thing. check it out if your a business bro. One extra star for serving pistachio nuts with oatmeal at breakfast! I'm accustomed to having walnuts with my oatmeal for breakfast at hotels. Dewberry 1850 has raised the bar for hotel oatmeal. We also had a group dinner in the restaurant for 25 people. We had a private room in the back which was very nice. Quick overnight stop on our way west from Philly! Typical lovely Marriott property and a charming surprise at the Dewberry 1850 restaurant for breakfast! Jade, are server, was upbeat, attentive and forthcoming with assistance on our buffet breakfast! Buffet was surprisingly well stocked with plethora of breakfast choices to suit everyone's preference! From simple seasonal fruit selections to yogurts to steel oats with all the 'needed' additives: raisins, brown sugar, cream and typical boxed cereals to a heated buffet of scrambled eggs with grated cheese and salsa accompanied by choices of bacon, sausage and cold meats w hard boiled eggs! Even French toast with not only heated maple syrup, but amazing REAL whipped cream and a cherry topping freshly made! Hard to resist that seductive offering! If one can't find a pleasing breakfast choice, well......??! Hospitality is primary at this property and the outgoing, attitude of waitstaff especially our server, Jade, made this an uplifting enjoyable start to our travel morning! Props to all! read more

This place has so much potential for those visiting the hotel. If Dewberry was impressive I would have easily had every meal this past weekend there. Alas, I did not. 1 star for the yummy pirate drink I had my first night. 1 star for the bartender I had the first night (until he disappeared). -1 star for my server/bartender disappearing both when I came down for drinks and another time when I ordered lunch to go. They were replaced with other people who ignored me and/or didn't know what was going on. -1 star for being given my to-go food and then just sitting around there being ignored while I waited to pay for it. I finally had to say something to one of the gals behind the counter who then had to go find someone to actually settle my bill with. Funny thing is, I almost left when they gave me my food until I realized I hadn't paid yet! -1 star for a very confusing burger. First off, it was a mess in my to go box. Way too bright.. like cafeteria bright. So bright you can easily see a cockroach walk across wall (yes this happened). Beer drafts weren't working. They changed the sporting event I was watching and I had to move to another part of the restaurant to watch on smaller tv. Deviled eggs.. good. Out of the meatloaf I ordered. I then chose the Airline Chicken. The chicken, asparagus and purple potatoes were good and prepared well but all three are sitting in a puddle of BBQ sauce so all ingredients had BBQ sauce on them. Why??? No follow up, where's my waiter. As I work through the chicken..its undercooked and purple/red in center. A different waiter than mine I was able to flag down and ask for manager. Manager comes over and I explain my assessment and displeasure. She explains they've just opened two weeks ago and the light dinners aren't installed yet and that may the reason some of the other problems have surfaced as well. She apologizes and comps my items and asked if I needed anything else. I ask for two Coronas to go and she kindly accommodates and I take them to my room in this Marriott run hotel. This was not brunch, even though that's what we were told they were having when we called to make reservations. Their basic breakfast buffet just for an extra 3 hours. Over come bacon and cherrios in a single serve cup. I ordered their grilled cheese, because nothing in the menu looked good, especially for the price. This is the bar and restaurant inside the Marriott at the University of Dayton. I looked at the menu and it looked fairly Simple. I talked to a guy that had eaten there at the previous day and he said to potentially go somewhere else as the price point is fairly high for what you get. The beer selection is pretty good but again the price point is a bit high. If you have a car I would venture out into the Oregon District or over to some of the breweries near warped wing or barrel room. Overall middle of the road. Would go somewhere else. read more

Somewhat disappointing. Had breakfast this morning at about 10 o'clock. The place was 1/4 full. It was very loud as the acoustics are not very good. Tables for two are very very small. Service was great. I ordered the BLT and I've never had tough for bacon. Very very hard to chew. Look forward to trying Lunch. My take is that it's a good restaurant for a hotel. Incredibly disappointing experience. Atmosphere is extraordinarily casual with big screen TVs. The food prices are higher than the quality of the food warranted. As a vegan I ordered their only vegan dish. It was tasteless. My husband ordered the short ribs and said they were fine but not great. Also ordered a cocktail that was not balanced and had a strange flowery taste. The only thing good about the meal was the bread service that we paid extra for.
