I love coming here to get my pup treats! They have a lot of toys and treats to choose from. If you are not sure if your pet will like a particular treat they offer some bones/treats individually to buy before you commit to buying a full bag! They also offer a lot of heathy raw food. And they have plenty of accessories to choose from. If you need leashes, collars, bowls, food matts, sweaters, etc., this is the place to go. The staff are always friendly and helpful! I have been a little more crazy than your average "dog mom" these past three years ever since I had a puppy to call my own, Charles. I love spoiling him with little treats and toys and Dexters Deli is the perfect place to indulge. I have bought him a birthday cake the last three years and he always loves it! I usually get the peanut butter flavor (which I have been told is for humans too, but I've never tried). They wrote Happy Birthday on the cake and wrote Charles' name on the bottom of the cake, so sweet. They also have fresh refrigerated pet food which I don't get for my fur child but I always see many people buying it when I'm there. The staff is so sweet and takes a genuine interest in your pet. Wow, wow, wow! I came in here based on a recommendation from my neighbor to get some pumpkin for my puppies upset stomach. I spoke with Paige and she recommended a pumpkin bar that may actually help him out more. She also told me about a promotional puppy pack that they had - TONS OF FREE PRODUCT! Legit, totally free, no catch! Dry dog food, dehydrated food, can of wet food, dehydrated liver treats, apple & oat treats, and goat milk. I also got 2 gigantic sweet potatoes dental sticks, a large Kong tennis ball, pumpkin purée, poop bags (which also had a promotion to get a free poop bag dispenser) all for $40. Paige was super friendly and incredibly knowledgeable! Plus, the deals are unbeatable compared to any big box retailer. They also have a ton of cute leashes, collars, and puppy cakes and cupcakes. I have been going to this location since it opened and over the years, they have been consistent with their services and the staff is always super knowledgeable, and very nice. The store has a relaxing atmosphere, and I spend way too much time in there but I actually found very useful items that serve multiple purposes, so I never feel like I got sold or wasted my money. They will take time to educate you and show you the exact products you need as well as alternatives. It feels like going back in time, when customer service was a priority to a retail business. I wish retail business would adopt this model. I don't go anywhere else for my special fur babies. read more

The customer service here is truly great. Every time I come in, everyone greets me and my dogs and gives them treats. My dogs have now been conditioned to sprint over to the counter area and sit, looking with sad puppy dog eyes until they get a treat. Sometimes I come in knowing exactly what I want, and other times, an associate helps me find a good food or treat to try. Once I came in and was looking for something for an extremely picky eater. The associate gave me samples of about 6 different brands to take home and try before deciding. They will assist you in selecting quality products for your pet and their prices are reasonable with coupons and rewards available. My cat loves his new canned food and it's so much better than the grocery store stuff with a very marginal price difference. My pup suffers from really bad allergies, and with Kaitlyn, micaela, Jamie and Austin's help they have helped me figure out what the reason was and what food would be best for my pup. And if something didn't work they would help me to figure out something different and talk to me about each product. I love how they actually care about the well being of your pup and you as their owner!! Each and everyone of the workers listen to your problems you're having with your pup wether it be environmentally allergies, food allergies, everything and anything these are your people!! And each of them love your pup like it's their own!! Jamie cuts my pups nails and he was super scared at first but each time she shows him love and affection and of course treats, and he's gotten so much better!! About a week ago, I made a new friend at the Vet's office.We got to talkin' about our furbabies and she could identify with me havin' a picky eater on my hands. So cut to a half hour later, when she's havin' me follow her to the place she raved about, Dexter's Deli. :-) We walk in and enter into dogfoodtopia- healthy high-quality food on every aisle. They have a special refrigerated section of raw food, Evo (the one my Vet says is the best dry/canned for my dog's needs), and Merrick's (it's all-natural with lots of veggies & cool flavors like Thanksgiving Dinner.) They even have dehydrated duck patties that the new friend said is the only kind her dog will eat at times. (lucky dog!) There are toys & treats as well, and the gal at the desk wasn't very personable although if u ask for the discount card (it's not advertised), you'll earn 5% toward future buys. My boyfriend and I stopped in here just because we noticed it as we were on our way to dinner and neither of us have been in before. First, we were not greeted by either of the two women who were working. One of them was at the register just stood there looking preoccupied (there were no other customers at this point). The least she could have said is "hello". The store has some really cute dog accessories and cool looking bakery items for your fluffy one! The cupcakes look tasty, I'm sure my dogs would've appreciated one (but I got them a collar with jingle-Bells on it instead). As I was approaching the register with the cute Christmas collar for my little dog, a customer walked in and asked the lady at the register, "can I exchange this bag for another?" And the employee told her "yes." So I assumed that this customer would be helped before me and I would be waiting my turn while the customer looked around for a different bag...BUT I was proved wrong because the very rude cashier looked at me and said "Well are you ready or not? Just walk up." I'm sorry that I was unaware you were NOT going to be helping the lady who was in line before me. I left very very disappointed with such rude service but I know where to go if I ever want to get my dogs some baked goods! Orrrr torture them with more collars that have bells on them :) read more

My dogs really like the Dexter's brand of dog "cookie" treats, especially the peanut butter. 5 stars for their baked treats! Buy with confidence knowing that you're feeding your pup the highest quality "home-made" treats. Unfortunately most of our visits have been met with mediocre customer service, and on one occasion markedly unhappy and curt. The best pet, health store around. I'm at the Cbad location at least once a week to purchase SmallBatch patties for my 2 furbabies (Corgi and SchnauzTerrier). Been coming here for a few years and I can truly say they carry the best brands, most of them are small producers. If they find out a brand they carry has been outsourced, for ex. to China or purchased by a large manufacturing firm, then after careful research, they will discontinue the product if they feel the quality is or can be negatively impacted, which customers are usually notified by email or on FB. Staff is also great, very knowledable and if you bring your pet by the store, most likely they will get a nice treat. Wish they had more locations! read more

We initially came in for a birthday cake, which they have plenty stocked in their refrigerator in small and medium sizes along with cupcakes for cheaper prices than I've paid at other pet speciality stores. But what I like about them the most is the cakes. They are human eatable but of course when they first told me I was skeptical and bought a human cake from somewhere else but curiosity got the best of me and I ended up tasting the cake from Dexter's and oh boy was I surprised. We have been frequenting this place, and decided to start buying our dog food here. The price on our usual brand jumped $15 in the past year, so we switched to a natural brand offered by Dexter's Deli. They have to special order for our large breed weight control needs, but they receive orders weekly and you can place an order right up until the day before delivery. We also utilized the anesthesia free teeth cleaning service offered here. It was quite comical bringing big Doms in for his first teeth cleaning. He was quite the baby about it, and it took both me and the teeth cleaner to hold him down. She was super sweet about it though, and I highly recommend this service. Can't go wrong with this store, and it is one more step towards supporting your local businesses instead of corporate giants. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place! The staff is very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. I bring my boys in there every time I go in and they are greeted with cookies and pets. I never have to make additional stops for pet supplies because they always have what I need. I came in today with a list of questions about possibly switching my pug and boston terrier to a raw diet and they were more than willing to give me samples to bring home and try out. They also took the time to educate me about the possibility of switching to a raw diet and printed me out literature to read. I never feel like they are trying to over sell me on items that I don't really need, but I feel like they really take their time with each customer to listen to their needs. An added bonus: my pug is turning a year old in less than a month and they have pupcakes! SOMEone is getting a special treat soon! One more thing: don't be shy about their reward program. If you find yourself shopping there for pet supplies a lot, then you're Dexter's Card fills up pretty fast. Forgot your card at home (like I always do)? PUPCAKES!! Dexter's has the absolute cutest doggie cupcakes, cakes, cookies, chewies, everything sweet and fun. Our dog Amalia is a very picky eater, and she gobbled her pupcake up in just a few bites. She's been known to turn down steak, chicken, and salmon so to have her so enjoy the pupcake was a treat for us as well. We're pretty sure that they're made from cotton candy, magic, glitter, and unicorns. At least that's what Amalia would have us believe. Great selection of healthy dog foods, too - Taste of the Wild, Honest Kitchen, SoJo, all of the highest quality foods for your furry buddy. Very helpful staff who fawned over Amalia, nice selection of beds, bowls, toys, and other accessories nice clean store. Our very favorite item was a bone-shaped frosted cookie that said "Dear Santa, Define nice." Wish we bought a ton of those, what great little holiday gifts for our canine friends! I hate when I take my Aussie to pet stores and the workers give him crappy looking Milkbone treats. He likes those, but he LOVES coming here. The staff here have given my dog high quality treats, like crunchy fish skins (which we later bought because he liked them so much) and freeze dried buffalo. Plus, they ask him to sit (unlike other places) before he can take it. Super awesome. They have a very nice selection of dog chews, food, and dog training accessories. This is one of my most favorite places to go for dog food! I come in every week basically and the staff is nothing less than kind as pie. It is a really small shop but they are all knowledgable and are always willing to answer questions if you have them! Plus they have great recommendations. Their raw selection is awesome too. Very nice store. The staff is always generous with treats. Last time they gave my Aussie pup a nice big hunk of fish skin for a treat :) Came into the store originally to look for green tripe. They have the canned stuff, Tripett but they also sell frozen ground tripe chubs from greentripe.com! Was pleasantly surprised to see this, I don't think there is any other distributor for raw green tripe here in North County. They have five or so freezers full of pre-ground meats (chicken, beef, turkey, rabbit), offal and meaty bones.
