First-time to get 1 of my 3 dogs here. I spent $$ Sunday, 9/7/25 Time in: 11:50am I picked-up my dog at 3:56pm [without getting notified, as i wanted to simply drop-in/check-up on my dog as I was told it would take 2 hrs, top 3 hours] Customer service: Pleasant, friendly I was told he didn't charge extra for dematting my dog. Didn't realize they charge $10 for 1/4 of the hour. Ok, didn't realize there is a time-frame for baths and dematting. It would've been nice if they were more transparent with prices. What is this material fee? Lol Anyways, I gave tip in cash. I would like to take my 2 remaining dogs here, but with a different groomer and see how that goes. Unless, I find some other reliable groomer around Oceanside. We will see. read more

I had come in to buy dog food for my daughter's dog but the bag was way back on the shelf. So I looked down the aisles to find an employee and found one Tracy. Wished I didn't!!!I said excuse me when you get a chance could you get a bag of dog food down for me (she was stocking the shelves). She didn't say a word she put down what she had in her hand. I told she may need something long to reach it, there were some poles with little clips on them for displaying. She brought one with her. She followed be just a few feet away to the shelf, I pointed it out. She stepped up pulled it down and basically just pushed into my open arms. NOT A WORD WAS SAID. I did say thank you. I needed a 47 lb. of food then when I found it there was no way I was able to put in the basket. I was not going to ask Tracy for help. So I left in the aisle by the others. I went and paid and the cashier Sierra made the day a little better. Told her I was sending my daughter back to get the bigger bag. THEN when my daughter returned unfortunately Tracy was the cashier. My daughter just carried the 47 lb. Bag to pay for it. She was treated badly also. I know everyone has a bad day but maybe keep her busy in the back away from paying customers. read more

There's been a few instances where one of the cashiers has been very rude and I just brush it off but the past weekend was beyond me. My husband placed a pick up order for a large fish tank. I know the tank was not light so my husband offered the nice girl with short dark hair (who was initially helping us out) to lift it off the pickup area shelf so she would not have to worry about lifting something so heavy. Before leaving, as one would, we were inspecting the tank to make sure it was the correct one and that it looked up to par. Right away we noticed a big scratch so we didn't make it a big deal but kindly asked the girl helping us if we could exchange it for a tank without scratches and my husband offered to go grab it and place the one they gave us back to the aisle knowing how heavy it was. The older, blonde lady, with glasses and a ponytail that has been rude other times was to the side register and intervened to say "those are not scratches that's simply glue and every other tank you find is going to have glue". Excuse me but I am not blind and I know the difference between what is a clear big ol scratch on glass compared to lines of glue. Literally tried gaslighting us when my friend who was with us even pointed out the scratch. If I'm paying a lot of $$$ for something I would want to get my moneys worth and ensure I'm happy with the product I am purchasing, so sorry for simply asking to exchange? When we mentioned we would still like to change it with attitude she scoffed and said "go ahead if it will make you feel better". I literally did not expect to walk in there to be gaslit, made feel as if we were dumber than dumb, and did not know what we were talking about. I've been holding back from saying anything but it's gotten to a point that it's a drag having to come to this store anymore for a simple pick up order because of its poor customer service by this one individual that unfortunate for me, so happens to be working upfront every time I have to pick up an order. I'm in nesting mode and want someone else to take care of. Fiancé doesn't want a third dog and we both don't want kids, so I decided I want fish. I found almost everything I need here, from the fish to the live plants, tank, heater, food/treats, and some toys (a leaf for Sashimi to rest on and a mirror to bob around). We had our dog groomed in store for the first time today, and we couldn't be happier with Joshua! Our pup has always been groomed by the same mobile groomer since he was a baby, so I was a little nervous about how he'd do with someone else. Joshua took such great care of him, patient, gentle, and clearly experienced. He came out looking great, and it was such a relief to see him coming out happy. My experience was poorly , and very unsatisfied. Petco customer service is terrible employees that were working on the floor to the person checking us out were unfriendly. I went to buy a fish and went with my grandchildren to buy a gold fish and she talked me out of buying one. I had my fish tank set up for 24 hours and she recommended I wait 3 days said okay. However she didn't suggest anything else like to condition water strips to check my water nothing. She was not friendly made me feel as if I was opposing on her time from putting dog food away. I perhaps was but I was there to buy a fish and as I said grandchildren were excited to bring one home and we got nothing but unfriendly service. Perhaps it's company faul for not giving more of a budget to put an employee to take care of fish and bird department so we don't have to be frowned upon because we asked for help with a fish that they didn't let me buy. My wife and I went on a hike and came to Petco to get our dogs washed after they ran into the mud and had fun!! We got to the cashier register and they denied our service because they didn't want to make more baskets for our dogs. If I can give this store a negative review I would!!! Petco is the only store I love shopping for my dog. I've been to so many petcos in SD because of how great the customer service experience is until today! Oh my goodness! If I can tell you how terrible the customer service was at this store, it would be an understatement. The lady Genita was "trying" to assist me with picking out a fish. I need a fish for our Persian new years (a cultural holiday) which happens every year. I normally always have gold fishes as pets throughout my entire life so taking care of them wasn't my first rodeo. However, I asked her some questions because I wanted to see how I can better my experience with having more than 1. She ended up not letting me buy any!!! I was speechless because I've never had any problems with buy anything from petco until today!!! My bf has a whole aquarium setup and has many fishes yet she would not sell me one for her own personal reasons. I was shocked and so disappointed with such terrible experience. GENITA, really needs to have better customer service and would be really appreciated if she was nice. She was just so rude and not helpful at all. When I explained how this is a cultural thing and I've always had fishes growing up she started yelling at me and started being aggressive. I am officially NEVER coming back to this petco. I have no issues with Petco the store itself as they always have everything in stock and fair prices. This review is solely for a front cashier worker named Tracy. She's one of the most rudest, incompetent and laziest workers I have ever seen. She acts like you are bugging her when you are asking her simple questions and she is not even knowledgeable at answering them. And this is the same attitude I've encountered every time with her. She should not be working customer service and should be working in the parking lot collecting carts with that attitude. read more

I have a Blue & Gold Macaw and Petco is the only local store that I know of that stocks food & pellets for large parrots. They have a large variety but not a large quantity of each selection. Consequently, I usually buy anything I think my bird will like in his mix. If there was a dedicated bird store or bought online it might be a few dollars less but I like to support brick & mortar stores in my neighborhood. The employees are nice. No one ever asks me if I need help but I'm sure they would be helpful if asked. Maybe I just look like I'm there with purpose and know what I'm doing. Love the store but the self grooming station gets a 1 star. I'm all for spending money on my babies but $20 per dog for a self washing station that has no sudsing shampoo to actually clean, it's extremely watered down, resulting in us then buying our own shampoo. My dog is not a biter and never has bitten me but the dryer is so anxiety ridden for them that my own dog started biting me. It's cold, it's EXTREMELY loud regardless of the setting you put it on. Will never wash them at Petco again. Not worth the money, for the facilities provided it's worth 7$ MAX. read more

Came in today to buy a specific brand of canned cat food. I found what I needed and was happy to see the cans were on special. I was also excited to find a coupon sitting on the shelf for 20% off the same brand. There were no lines when I was ready to pay and I was greeted immediately by the most helpful cashier. She is the reason the store is getting 5 stars. I didn't get her name (and it's not on the receipt)...she was attentive, happy to help me and extremely cheerful...She made the transaction easy and pleasant from start to finish! If management would like to contact me, I'm happy to give the information on my receipt to help figure out who she is so she can be recognized. This is not the closest Petco to my home but, based on my experience today, I will probably make this my go to store. read more

I genuinely hope a regional manager or the store manager looks into their employees because I've never experienced such a disrespectful groomer as I have today, or even grooming salon as a whole. I've been coming to this salon to have both my poodles groomed or to use the self service baths for a few years. Our amazing groomer left this location, so we've had to switch employees. I booked an early appointment for July 4th for my dog to be groomed a week ago. He honestly just needs his legs & stomach trimmed, as well as his nails trimmed. His face is fully trimmed with a poodle face and his body is currently trimmed short. This appointment genuinely would've only been about an hour tops. I received a call from Elise, the groomer, letting me know a day before his appointment that she canceled my dog's appointment because "he has a heart murmur". My dog doesn't have a heart murmur, has never had one or any other heart condition. He's in great health, no skin, eye, hip, feet, back issues, no bumps or anything. He doesn't bite & is only about 12lbs. I was asked by the employee to get a letter from the vet stating he's okay to be groomed. It specifically says "*Dog's name* is in good health and able to be groomed. *name* has no known heart condition and no murmur has been heard on exam." Signed his vet with the office she works at & the phone number should the groomer need to reach out. When I explained we did get that letter and can bring it tomorrow, Elise cut me off & got an attitude with me & stated "well if his heart murmur has magically gone away, then you can bring him". As I said, he has never had one, has been groomed here numerous times before & somehow magically his file states he has a heart condition when this new groomer starts grooming him? She then proceeded to cancel his appointment even though I told her that I DO have the documents from the vet that she requested. I've worked in customer service, including at a pet store as a groomer & would've never talked to someone like that or not allow them to provide the documentation I requested from them. If they're so adamant that my dog has a health issue that he doesn't have, then they should've called and canceled the appointment last week when I booked it. On top of that, the assistant manager refused to even see the documentation that, again, Petco requested. At this point, it seems like the groomer was genuinely being lazy & didn't want to do an early morning appointment on a holiday. No wonder our prior groomer left, management is literally insufferable I'm sure other locations are *spectacular*, but this location is not it. There are so many mobile groomers that will drive to your home for a great price & provide a better experience. It's honestly concerning that the salon has the ability to add something to your pet profile, especially by mistake by a new groomer and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it. read more

The second we walked in my dog was shaking like never before you could see his hair shaking from how much he was shaking. Then when we got our cut our lady said she would only do a little. But when we picked our dog up it was cut to the skin. Finally when we got home he threw up he was traumatized. I don't respect lying to customers. read more

I have been buying food from PETCO for the last 15 years but realized that the customers are not even valued on the most superficial level. I came to your store tonight at around 7:30 PM to buy a large bag of cat food. I am standing in line behind a customer who was at the register with the only cashier in the checkout and the customer needed assistance. The store only two customers (myself included) in the store. The manager came to the front to assist the first customer which was not an issue. Another employee followed the manager to the checkout area. The issue I had was when the manager was finished helping the customer before me, she and the other employee did not ask if I needed help. I am holding a large bag of cat food and the manager and other employee looked right at me, ignored me and left the checkout. As a longtime customer, how I was treated reflects the PETCO values and it's not about customer engagement. I called the manager, a woman with glasses and very short grey hair and told her that I did not appreciate her rudeness, that she lacked customer service skills, doesn't pick up social cues and should look for another job. Sorry PETCO, I will purchase all my pet supplies on Amazon because a mouseclick is much a better shopping experience than a rude one. read more

This is my favourite Petco location by far! I will travel 20 minutes out of my way just to go to this Petco. I have a 4 month old puppy, and she's our first dog. I've gone in here feeling overwhelmed with all the options there are, and trying to make sure we get what's best for her, but each time I ask a worker for help I get a sense of relief. Special shout-out to Winter, as she went above and beyond to help us pick a crate out for our baby. She also provided us with a great amount of tips, and thank to that our little girl is now kept busy and out of trouble. Winter is an exemplary employee, she actually listens to you and gives you advice without coming off as condescending or rude. I love this store!! read more

I took off work early to take him in and the groomer said she thinks he has an ear infection and was unwilling to groom him. Now I am left at 4:30 on a Friday before the pictures with no where to take him. The one time I took him to a Petco with an ear infection, they just didn't wash the area and didn't clean his ears as to not interfere with the medication he was on. This is a massive waste of my time and has left me with no where to go last minute. The stylist's name is Hannah. Also she clearly just wanted to be off work early. I had a 4:15 appointment, when I got there she asked if she could send my dog home not fully dry because she got off work at 5, which I said was fine. Then proceeded to cancel my appointment because she thought he had an ear infection. So hope Hannah had a great early weekend. Incredibly unprofessional. read more

For grooming: I think Petco has the best services, especially the walk in services. I like that I can walk in and get easy things done like nail trimming, teeth brushing, and anal expression done without an appointment for my little pup. They usually take my pup in less than 5 minutes and done in 15-20 minutes. I get the mini make over, good price too. I went to pet smart down the street for walk in services, they told me to come back in an hour. Not convenient at all. Petco is really where the pet go! I only wish this one had a self wash station! read more

I have paid much more money for private training from others and didn't get near the training I got from Laurie at petco in a group class. She has many years of training experience and explains in detail not just what you're learning but why it's important. She always listened to each person and would trouble shoot with great solutions with insight on how and why. read more

I think this is possibly the WORST Petco location in the entire nation. First of all, the prices in store NEVER ring up properly (you are charged way more than the price listed in store and online!) and God forbid you bring this to a staff members attention! They just stare at you like you are speaking another language and shrug their shoulders. Make sure you check your receipts! The staff is just beyond rude and incompetent every single time I go here. If you order online for pickup, yes even hours in advance, you are told it will be another hour or you can "grab your order yourself" The management is horrible, they are never there and never call you back when they say they will. Petco still amazes me. I've been going here for a long time for various pet needs, not this particular Petco but just Petco in general. I currently have a betta fish and so it's fun to look at the aquarium stuff. I came here on a Saturday morning actually trying to kill time, waiting for Daiso to open. The amount of pet items that they have in the store is unbelievable, from fish items dog items cat items it's a large Warehouse full of stuff to spend your money on for your pet. Not to mention there's a grooming section within the store as well. To my surprise and Delight while I was killing time, Saturday morning there's a puppy obedience training class in side the store!!! It was so cool to watch the puppies being trained and they're all so cute and Goofy with parents who are very impatient LOL great way to waste time on a Saturday morning! read more
