Whenever I'm in Queens- I stop by here for their noodles and bbq squid!! Ever since I discovered this spot a couple months ago I make a point to come here any time I have the chance. It's a regular spot for me- they have very quick service and the servers are kind. With the noodle soups, you can choose the type of noodle you want with the soup. There's a decent amount of seating inside with window seating options. What I've had: -BBQ squid: MUST! my constant go to every single time!! It usually comes on a stick and You can have it made spicy where it comes with some Szechuan spices on top. If I'm looking for protein, this is my definite go to. -Signature Lan Zhou Beef Noodles: MUST!! When you go to a noodle spot, you have to get noodles! And this bowl was NOT a disappointment!! I came in during lunch time on the weekend and there was no wait. It was relatively empty with a couple other customers in the restaurant. The restaurant was clean and had a decent atmosphere. The music was not overly loud. I ordered the braised beef noodle soup with wide noodles and the food arrived quick. I was expecting the noodles to be wide like chow fun noodles but it was closer to the width of fresh pho noodles. The meat was tender but some of the noodles clumped together, which made it less soft and bouncy of a texture. The broth was light with a mild kick. Dunhuang is one of my favourite restaurants in the area -- I often order takeout for a nice bowl of noodles after work, but occasionally stop to dine-in with some friends in the area. My go-to order is the braised beef noodle soup 紅燒牛肉麵 -- I like getting the really thick noodles, but they have a few sizes to suit your taste. The broth is fragrant and savoury without being too heavy/oily, and the chunks of beef are plentiful and delicious -- so tender and juicy. Portion size is very large and is a fantastic value for the price. The classic lanzhou beef noodle soup 蘭州牛肉麵 is a great choice too -- I like the clear simplicity of the broth, which is light but carries the rich beef flavour very well. The beef slices are really flavourful and cooked to a perfect softness. Also, the zhajiang noodles 炸醬麵 is a particular favourite; the pork sauce is so generous and yummy, and the fresh, sliced cucumber is a lovely texture and flavour contrast. I also like getting some of their skewers when in a larger group -- the cumin can be a bit much at times haha but I'm a big fan of the beef and the potato skewers. Price point is really great -- portion sizes are large and when I order takeout, it's usually enough for ~1.5 meal's worth of food haha. We were in the LIC area and were recommended to try DH out. Upon entering it wasn't that busy. We needed a table for 3 adults and 1 kid. They told us they only had one highchair and it was already being used. They wanted to seat us at a table without a back support and I asked if we could be seated at the table with the back support so that my child wouldn't fall. They gave us a hard time and kept insisting that they can't put the tables together and that it'd be too small for us and not comfortable which I don't understand at all. We said we didn't mind and it's much safer for my child to sit there and eventually he allowed us to sit there - although he didn't seem too happy about it. Not sure why since the restaurant was pretty much empty. Seemed like another group also had issues with seating arrangement and the restaurant also didn't want to sit them at the tables with the back support but eventually they also allowed them to. It took at least 5-10 minutes after we were seated for them to come take our order and that was after we flagged them down. They also didn't give us any water until we asked. I would say that overall service isn't the greatest here - surprising since it really wasn't all that busy. Although service isn't that great, the food is good. The soup noodles have a lot of flavor and meat is tender. Not sure that I'd come back to this location though given the service we received was sub par. read more

Great lunch or dinner spot with lots of seating available. Started with the marinated cucumbers which were insanely good! Super garlicky and the perfect crisp which was refreshing. Also ordered some pork and chive dumplings, note they do take some time to prepare however super delicious and homemade. It's good affordable noodle spot in LIC. They are so quick to serve you and the food is made so quick. You can tell people quickly stop by. It felt like a comfortable spot where I didn't need to dress up, I can just walk in casually. The woodear mushroom was big and had a great texture. It was very vinegary so I can see how the flavor would be tiring. Lanzhou Beef Noodle Soup is so clean and fresh. You can ask to take out cilantro if that isn't your cup of tea but I would say that made the broth the way it is. The Mala Soup was a perfect spice if you aren't looking to kill your tastebuds, and it was creamy. I think they had peanut sauce in it which contributed to the creaminess. I'm pretty familiar with this chain since I used to frequent it with friends in NJ, so it was nice to have one so close to my place in LIC. I ordered the Beef Noodle Soup the two times I came here, and I wasn't disappointed. The broth was clean and flavorful, the noodles were fresh, and the meat was the right amount of tenderness. The Baos were also really good; my girlfriend and I were big fans of the Lamb Burger. I'm not sure if I haven't been back in a while, but in my opinion the LIC Dun Huang tasted a little better than the one I used to go in NJ. Service was fast; when I went to order take out they literally had my Beef Noodle Soup ready in less than 2 minutes. Great new spot to the Long Island City area (located in court square). I have been to the location in grand central. It was a chilly day and I needed a nice bowl of hearty soup with noodles. I got the original beef noodle soup (I meant to get the signature one with spicy chili oil). This one was kind of bland. I would come back to try the other spicy one! There are a lot of noodles!!! I wish there was more meat. We got the egg plant salad and beef skewer (one order comes with 4) to share. We also got sauteed bak choy. Needed some veggies in my life. The beef skewer had so much flavor, I recommend trying it out! The egg plant salad was refreshing and it came cold with lots of garlic. We came around 12:10pm on a sat, no wait but there was a decent amount of people there. Staff is friendly and welcoming! We got the signature beef noodle soup with the chili oil on the side which is essentially the original without the chili oil. Wow. So clean and flavorful tasting, it didn't require the chili oil. I saw a review saying it was Bland but I'm not sure what they could mean. We got this with regular noodles, and the only complaint was that after a few minutes, the noodles were slightly too soft but hey, it's hot broth, what can you do. We also got the Zha Jiang noodles which were good, with thick noodles because we were curious. They were slightly thicker but not overly so. I decided to give this place another try and ordered takeout instead, so I didn't have to wait outside the restaurant. Upon arrival, after telling the reception my name, order and app I ordered on, she still demanded to have me pull out my phone and show her all the order details and made me scroll through the order page to show her all the details. Great spot to fill your bellies with noodles. Came here with friends after a long day at the climbing gym. The soup is fantastic and their noodles are handmade/homemade. We tried this place on a Friday afternoon for lunch during their soft opening. Walked in to a moderately busy restaurant with plenty of seating. Interiors are minimalistic but fresh, and high ceilings makes the place look very industrial. Attentive set of staff came to our table right as we were seated, and we ordered a hot appetizer Silky Wide Glass Noodle ($8.50) and Fresh Hand Pulled Noodles - Spicy Oil Spill Noodle ($13.99). We were warned that the Silky Wide Glass Noodle will be spicy - but we could easily handle the spice. Food overall was absolutely brilliant - one of the best Chinese I've had in the US! Noodles were absolutely fresh - slightly on the chewier side which I like. The Spicy Oil Spill Noodle was delicious and had a very distinct taste to it (a good one!). Bok Choy was cooked to perfection, and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. I hope they keep up their quality and service, both of which were absolutely wonderful during our visit. I'm non-Chinese Asian so I'm greeted in Mandarin but I was wearing a mask. Kind of funny. The fried crispy pork was perfect. Hot, fast and not greasy. They know their oil cycles and proper temperatures. The squid was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The original beef soup was ... you simply have to try it. After poring over the Dun Huang menu online and worried that I just wouldn't like it, my fears were confirmed. I wanted to try a ground pork noodle dish and was told that they don't serve pork. After pointing out the dish on the menu to the server, all I got was "Oh." So I decided on Mala noodles which was pictured as flat, wide noodles in a spicy broth. Less than 5 minutes later I was handed a bag which contained a quart container of room temperature broth and a pint container of cold, thin noodles. For anyone with nut allergies, be warned- there's peanuts all through the broth. Why??? This was a to-go order. Without asking for my approval, I was charged an 18 percent tip on an already very expensive order. I feel played. I won't be played again! read more

I love the Dun Huang in Flushing, so I was so excited when I found out one finally opened near me! My go to order is always the number 2 bowl ($11 ish), which is the original without the chili oil on top. The soup is clear yet flavorful, and the daikon and beef supplement the noodles so well! Now I've been here at least six times, and I'm going to say that the meat ratio is honestly hit or miss. Sometimes I get two small slices of beef, other times I get a regular portion. You never know! Make sure to get the beef skewers (4 for $10) here cause they are perfectly seasoned and grilled. I also always get the beef slices burger ($5 or $6?) at the Flushing location and at this location. For some reason, the burger here upsets my stomach like crazy, but I will continue eating it. read more
