    Murgh palao

Came with a friend, I'd never had Bengali food before now. I ordered the morog polao and was blown away by the flavor. I can't speak for the authenticity, but it really hit the spot. The portion was massive and I couldn't finish it, plus it came with a small salad. Prices were good and the portions large, so if I'm ever in the area, would definitely stop by again.

    SO MUCH FOOD
    Waheda I.

I came here today with a friend. I'm of Bengali descent. So I usually will go to restaurants which had food that isn't spicy enough for me. Boy did this place blow me away. I asked for the food spicy and i sure as hell got it spicy. Staff was very sweet. As soon as the conversation switched over to Bangla, they began to relax. Everyone was accommodating. The best part I will say is the price matched with the portions. Omfg. For $16 I got rice, salad and PLATTER of meat. This makes me happy. Alas I couldn't finish it. But I did take it home. Very good food and great staff. Certainly a place to stop by. :P

    Breakfast!

Came here looking for bengali breakfast food. It did not disappoint. The space is open, sunny and clean. The staff (one young lady, really) served with a smile and wanted to make sure we were satisfied. Her smile was infectious. You order at the counter, and she brings you the food. It was all freshly made and yummy. We stuck to a vegetarian diet this time around. So, first out was the shiraga... basically a veggie samosa... the crust was delicious, moist, flaky and not oily. The filling, mostly potatoes, peas, and onion curry, was yummy. We then ordered the 3 veggie breakfast items.. curried potatoes, dal, and mixed veggies. The potatoes were awesome, perfectly cooked and seasoned, thinly sliced red potatoes. The mixed veggies was a good simple veggie curry. I wasn't the biggest fan of the dal, it wasn't seasoned enough for my tastes; my friend loved it. I requested hot sauce, they didn't have any, but she said they had fresh chilies, and brought them out on a bed of salad (a nice touch) We also ordered the partha, naan and roti... they were all good.. nothing to write home about, but good solid bread. The milk tea was very fragrant. We also ordered the dodhi pudding (a yogurt based pudding, supposedly made with a long gourd) it was delicious, a bit sour/ salty... but still sweet. Definitely worth trying.

Maybe I'm just being emotional because the syliti guy made my tea hot. We took Morog polaw(chicken yogurt roasted with white rice) the chicken was hell fresh seriously I repeat hell fresh! Rice had the toasted onion properly sprinkled. My female friend was real happy. I had eye problems that's why I was wearing sun glass in restaurant though the guy with glass in cashier behavior was phenomenal. The roasted chicken yogurt gravy was on the point. Sorry I was so lost in the food and service both of us forgot to take pictures. Highly recommend this place. I should have given them some cash tips. Never mind I will go there more often to cover my inconvenience. ;)

    Shami Kabab

Really disgusting, they burned both orders of shami kabab to a crisp all the way through. I ordered delivery and was sent food that you would throw out, not serve to actual human beings. This is my own cultural food so this isn't a cultural difference - this restaurant is serving inedible burned food. Go literally anywhere else in Jackson Heights.

New dine in/take out Indian restaurant on 37th Avenue. Took the spot of the Chinese takeout joint. They did a great job with renovations and place so far seems very clean and aesthetically pleasing. I attempted to order the Fish Curry but was disappointed to find that they were out. I went with the Chicken curry which was good but I was hoping for a little more of a portion. The rice was a dollar extra but you get a ton of it. I'm sure I will be back since it is right around the corner.

Semi-new Bangladeshi restaurant in Jackson heights is worth a try: good food and good service. They serve more traditional items like bhortas along with staples like biryani. Everything we ordered came out timely, fresh and tasty. The restaurant is clean and spacious. Lots of good Bangladeshi food in the area but if you want to try something different, this one might worth a look.

So the first time I came here was during Ramadan and they had renovations which might be why I wasn't impressed with the food. The last time I came here my husband and I ordered the shrimp/chicken Thai soup and I swear it was the best thing I've had since our trip to Thailand! The spicy tomato daal base with lemon grass shoots, chunks of shrimp and chicken disappeared in no time despite being family sized. Probably one of my top 5 soups ever! We also ordered a side of chicken lollipop that tasted better than the last time I came. Not super battered, crunchy, although I feel like it could use more flavor. I like to use dipping sauces as a compliment to the flavors in the chicken rather than necessary for taste. Otherwise staff is exceptional and food is great

The worst chicken lollipop ever. The inside was very raw and uncooked. Gave my brother and I food poisoning.

I was in Jackson Heights and craving some good halal food so my brother and I decided to go to Dhaka Garden. Don't let this place fool you with its looks. The workers have horrible service and this place gave me FOOD POISONING. We ordered the chicken fried rice and chicken lollipop and it looked somewhat appetizing but turned out to be horrible. First of all those workers don't speak much English and screwed up my order. They gave me vegetable fried rice instead of chicken fried rice. The WORST PART of this experience was the RAW CHICKEN LOLLIPOP. It gave my brother and I horrible food poisoning. I'm so done with this place. If any of you want food poisoning please go to this restaurant. Horrible food, horrible service, and overall a terrible experience. I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS PLACE.

When you're the only person who looks like you in the place and you're surrounded by brown people speaking other languages, you've likely found an authentic place with great food. Ittadi was definitely that place. They have a huge buffet of food, TONS of options, but you can also tell the food is fresh. And the place was so busy that you know the food didn't sit long and was refreshed often. We tried the coconut samosa, which was large in size. It was the perfect combo of savory and sweet. We also had the egg chop, which is a hard boiled egg covered in spicy mashed potatoes and fried in a crispy breadcrumb coating. It was super spicy (in a good way) and delish. It came with a side of onions and greenery. We also had the haleem, which is a comfort dish, made of lentils. It was so warm and filling. Absolutely delicious. The employees/owners were so kind. They were really invested in us liking our food. When we didn't eat everything, they were concerned, but we told them we were on a food crawl and had to save space, otherwise we would have devoured everything. Again, this was my favorite place of the whole crawl, and I would make the trek back over to Queens just for this food.

We did receive rotten sauce one time, but never again. During Ramadan, I was really craving an Iftar box meal. My dad bought me one from this place, and it came with biryani, fritters, and fruits. I was honestly scared to try the biryani because I usually dislike the ones outside because they smell, have too much oil, or just straight up taste bad. But honestly, the biryani was so good... I was really surprised, and definitely proven wrong. I would get it again! I did find one of the fritters in the Iftar box to be mid, but I cannot remember which one as it isn't something I have ordered often. My main reasons for giving this restaurant 4 stars is because I agree with one of the other reviews that mention the ambiance not being so good. I don't think this is somewhere you could sit down and have a meal in quiet without getting overstimulated as it is next to the train station on Diversity Plaza, where a lot of people just hang out. This is one of the to-go places where people often get tea or snacks from, so you'll see people going in and out A LOT. As for service, I'm not sure what to say because it's always been my dad who ordered and dealt with the staff, so I can't say much. But he usually tells us if any restaurant staff makes him mad, so as far as I recall, he never complained about the service. Also, I have never tried the main course food items, such as pulao and roast. So I cannot comment on how those taste, but reading the other views, it seems they weren't too good. And I'm seeing that people had complaints about cleanliness of the restaurant and how there is a lack of proper plumbing systems. I guess I never noticed this because I never actually sat in the restaurant.. Maybe I should eat from here less often?

I discovered that a Bangladesh street food called fushka is very popular, so decided to try for my first time. Tong is highly rated and their menu is simple. I ordered the Doi Fuchka ($7), which comes as crispy, hollow puri shells stuffed with a savory mashed potato and chickpea mixture. The difference in the doi is that it is topped with a yogurt to balance the spice for a creamier texture. I liked this a lot, especially with the tamarind sauce too (though this got a bit messy). This is nothing like I've ever tasted with so many different textures going on. It hits you with spicy, sweet, savory, crunchy, creamy, chewy and everything all at once. It comes with 8 pieces, which is perfect to share with 2-3 people. Definitely something to check out!

The fuchka was the main event; I liked the original a bit more than the yogurt variety (doi fuchka); the latter was sweet and a little more creamy, while the original had a nice spice and crisp that stood out. My fellow Bengali friends were really happy to see this and we liked the food. Yup, we liked it. As it was more like home food and not fancy Bengali restaurant type. Everything was bringing memories from Kolkata homes. And it is not even expensive. Every item was from $4-$12. We four were there and it was $72 only and we had 6-7 dishes. Only bad thing is that from Jersey City to Queens, we had to change 2 paths, so one person it is $11 for both ways. So we spent $44 to come here and have this food. Was it worth it? I would say NO. but yes, once in while you can come.

The latter holds true for Abdullah, which has been among the sleepier businesses on the block for a good number of years. It's not exactly a destination spot, but serves the neighborhood well as a locals only type establishment. Like many of the shops along 37th, the space is super tight with an old school exterior look. This is more of a takeout joint than anything, but I imagine coming in for some tea and a snack from the display is doable on a solo adventure. I haven't used the bathrooms yet and given the relatively grimy interior, I'm not sure I would want to. I initially came for the sweets and ended up getting their infamous fuchka and wasn't disappointed. They also serve a halfway decent bortha, which I prefer with potato over the shrimp and tomato. I had tried their beef teheri and the boneless version of their beef kalovuna and give it a thumbs up. The sweets (especially their burfi) were disappointing for how dry they were (both the coconut and gazar were like chalk). Star wise, I'd have to give them a 4 for the food I've tried, but the overall 3 is for the lackluster service. Despite having come here a number of times, it's never been the warmest of encounters. The prices are pretty decent and the flow of the crowd is steady throughout the week. While they take CC, cash is always king.

Pros: seated quickly, ambiance was lovely, appetizers came out quickly, the Lasuni Gobi was delicious. CONS: My husband and I waited 40+ minutes for our main dishes (dal + rice and the Paneer Tikka dish) to arrive....... And we watched the people who were seated AFTER us receive their MEAT dishes before we got our ours and we most definitely ordered first. We asked our server MORE THAN ONCE what was taking so long and we got the same answer each time "I've told the kitchen to hurry, it'll be out soon" To make matters worse, the person who brought us our dishes (maybe the chef? Maybe the manager?) brought them without the naan that we ordered. When I asked, "where's our naan?" He had the audacity to rudely say "it'll be out in a few minutes", as if we hadn't already been waiting 40+ minutes for vegetarian food that I could've whipped up myself in 20 minutes. His attitude towards us was so unacceptable considering the circumstances. We have absolutely no idea what happened or why it took so long for our simple dishes to arrive. It's especially perplexing considering that the people who came in AFTER us got their meat dishes first. The server apologized and decided to bring us some kulfi (ice cream) to try to make up for it, but we try to avoid eating sugar so that was useless. I felt bad for the server because it wasn't his fault that our food took a ridiculous amount of time to make it to our table, and it's not cool that a manager never stepped in to try to reconcile. As someone who waited tables for 8+ years, I was shocked at the lack of support this server received from his management team. The dal and paneer tikka dishes were average tasting at best (and overpriced), making another trip here completely unfathomable, most especially considering how we were treated. Note to management: do better. Support your staff and step in to reconcile with unhappy guests if this happens again.
