Stopped here while visiting a friend in NYC. They order for delivery frequently but have never been in the restaurant. The staff were super friendly and attentive. We ordered quite a few different options. All were delicious. The Kofta was the best I've ever had! It's a nice restaurant. Not too loud despite being so open. This place was great when it was across the street many years ago. The quality has dropped recently but I think it's because they nurture a tremendously successful catering business as well as B2B accounts. Nonetheless, you can't go wrong for a $13 weekend buffet. Selection is a bit limited and it would probably only help if they sprinkled a little bit of variety into their buffet offerings. There re better places and worst ones. Tandoor Restaurant is a Indian restaurant in Queens. Also they deliver via Eat24, Seamless and Grubhub. I have never stepped foot in the restaurant but I'll admit I have eaten take out here multiple times. K loves Indian food. Thankfully, Tandoor delivers and Eat24 usually has a $2 coupon. Recently we ordered the chicken tikka masala and the special dinner (fried vegetables, soup, tandoori chicken, seekh kabab (spiced beef sausage), chicken tikka (chicken kebab), lamb passanda (lamb yogurt curry), rice and naan). I love the creamy tomato chicken masala. Sometimes the chunks of chicken are overcooked and dry. This time the chicken was juicy and just right. Usually the special has fried vegetables (I like the fried cauliflower the best). The special has so many varieties of food, we usually eat what we can and pack some for lunch the net day. The juiciest meat is usually the seekh kebab (the beef sausage). This is very flavorful and not spicy. You can also up the spice with the condiments that Tandoor gives you. The tandoori chicken is usually dry but if you smother it with the chicken masala sauce, it tastes good. The garlic naan is great: flakey and soft and fluffy. Sometimes the naan can be dry. My boyfriend and I love Indian food, and this spot is super close to our apartment so we were excited to give it a try. The ambiance is a little strange if you're dining in the restaurant though. It's like it wants to give the impression of a fancy restaurant with the tablecloths and decor, but then the restaurant is ALWAYS empty and the manager's office is practically in the dining room and has glass walls so you can see right inside. It gives pretty weird vibes. I'd love to say that the food is stellar, but it's just okay. Our favorite Indian dish is the classic Chicken Tikka Masala, and we don't bother ordering it here because it's not very good. The chicken korma is much better though so that's become our new go-to. This is fairly large Indian restaurant with ample seating that has an all you can eat buffet. Lunch is only $8.95 and dinner is $11.95. This place has been here for many years and whenever I walk by, it is nearly empty. I am surprised as it was pretty good when I went. The options for the all you can eat were a little basic, but too good of a value to really complain. I believe there were about 6 entrees to choose from. You help yourself from the buffet tables. They had such popular dishes as chicken tikka masala, saag paneer (spinach), and aloo masala (potato). I had a little bit of everything and they also tasted fairly fresh and flavorful. The buffet places in Jackson Heights do have a much bigger selection than this place. However, there are not many Indian options for this neighborhood. We order from Tandoor at least one time per week. We always indicate mild because our children do not eat spicy food. Tonight our order was so spicy it was inedible. We called to let them know the food was not how we ordered it and we were told they would call us back. Since they did not call us back we called again and were told that the food was not spicy. Then we were asked to package up the food so it could be picked up so the chef can taste it!!! I said that is ridiculous and then we were basically called liars who were trying to get a free meal - which is not the case since we happily order from Tandoor every week. Ive been visiting this place since 2001 when it was on the north side of Queens Blvd. the food has been always great and also great service. Bushra has been an amazing manager. But they have a new guy recently who takes phone orders. We usually call them to place an order for delivery. The guy on the phone was so so so rude. Not once, not twice, all the time. His attitude was very bad. Every time I ask to speak to Bushra, he' ll come up with an excuse. I guess this time he recognized my voice and hung up without taking my billing info. I had to call him again after 20 mins (not sure if my order was coming through) to give my payment info. SO UNPROFESSIONAL!!!! Also I ordered two parathas. They came burnt!!! tandoor, you guys should look into who you hire! We love your food but this has been an awful experience for the last few times!! Sorry! Hope you guys resolve this soon! I have been a customer for more than 20 years, before Tandoor moved across Queens Blvd., and today was the first time that I am utterly disappointed. You could always count on Tandoor for a great meal. Today, we picked up an order without checking that the order was complete. Big mistake! No condiments for the much smaller samosas. One order of rice for two entrees. It is so frustrating because the food was tasty, but the size reductions and the lack of attention to detail has me looking for a new Indian restaurant. read more

Just when I thought Tandoor had gone the way of the restaurant dinosaur, I learned their new location is simply across the street. The new spot is a vast improvement to the dungeon that was their former home, a place that practically rejected sunlight. It seems Tandoor has a new pep in their step, it's now a brighter, cleaner, and modern locale. The question is now, how is the food? At one point the weekly lunch buffet was a measly $6.95, now increased to a more realistic $7.95. There seems to be more food, which is always a great thing, most of which more importantly tastes good. The tandoori chicken is still made in house and is super juicy when fresh out of the oven. While I love the palak paneer, aloo masala, and lamb roganjosh, the outstanding curry chicken seems to get me every time. Unlike the creamy textures one gets from most Indian places, the "granules"of spices found in Tandoor's version gets my mouth watering when I think about it. Who would've thought Rego Park could go toe to toe with some of the other Indian heavy hoods in Queens? Certainly not I. Service is often inconsistent - a mixture of super friendly to a lackadaisical. It's definitely something that has either hindered or helped my experience here, but the highlights have always been about the food. Hence, going for the buffet means I have to deal with little staff and just my appetite. read more

Signs boasting 12- to 15-course buffet for $7.95 or $10.95 (on weekdays and weekends afternoons, respectively) drew us in to Tandoor today just as it was likely intended to do. However, I found this slightly misleading when we hungrily approached the table and discovered only seven courses, two of which were naan and basmati rice. I assume that the missing 'courses' referred to the scattered sauces, vegetables, and the bowl of kheer (rice pudding) that lay off to the side. PSA: a dish of cherry tomatoes does not a course make. False advertisement aside, the hot offerings were decent. Chicken curry and chicken tandoori were the two meat-based offerings, while dal masala, a turnip curry, and mushroom with peas made up the vegetarian options. The dal (lentils) were mushy, mostly liquid, and surprisingly bland as I'm used to Indian food that is extremely well-seasoned, if not on the saltier side. The turnip curry was the one dish I found unexpectedly decent, especially since turnips are far from my favorite vegetable. But with savory chunks of potato and turnips in a slightly spicy sauce, this was the one dish to which I found myself returning. For the most part, there was nothing here that wowed us besides the price, though one might argue that at 8 and change per person, it is good enough. We were told that the buffet items vary little from day to day but there are apparently more dishes put out on weekends. As already been mentioned, service is pretty inattentive here. We stacked our used plates about five high before they came by to take them away, and that was only because we'd asked for our check. Since we were there toward the end of the end of the lunch special, the restaurant was far from busy but our water glasses remained empty for most of our meal. Instead, workers seemed far more intent on standing guard by the buffet table and staring unsmilingly at the dining tables, which was more than a little unsettling (what do they think we'll do? Steal food? It's all you can eat!). I tried to get some pictures but as soon as the shutter sounded, a man came rushing out of the cashier box in the corner of the room, waving his arms aggressively, exclaiming, "No pictures! No pictures! Review, yes. Pictures, no." So...I hope Yelpers enjoy the one illicit shot I got in before he shut me down. read more

This is one of the few, if not the only, Indian restaurant we could find on Queens Boulevard in Rego Park. We were walking around on New Year Day and wanted to grab a light lunch. Passed by Tandoor and decided to try it since it was a Friday and the lunch special was still on - buffet for $7.95. We were skeptical of the price and went in to ask if it the buffet was for that price. It was! There was no one there when we walked in - worrisome, I know - but we decided to stick it out. After a while, a few more customers came in to dine. The buffet is very small but at least that means they replenish the food and often. They offered a variety of: Salad Basmati rice and naan Spinach Tofu Red bean mix? Curry chicken Tandoori chicken Rice Pudding Overall, I enjoyed my food. It wasn't bad for $7.95 for all you can eat at lunch. I went up for seconds because it was yummy so there went my "light lunch" attempt. Since we were there early, we got the first dibs to scoop. I liked the spinach and curry chicken a lot. The tandoori chicken was very moist and flavorful. I highly recommend getting the rice pudding. It was a great way to end the meal and it was sweet without being overwhelming. Really enjoyed the pudding. read more

Finally had a chance to try this place out! I've been looking for an Indian restaurant to satisfy my cravings and glad this is so close to me. They are open for take-out as of 08.05.2020. I had the saag paneer and it was very good. Creamy enough with nice chunks of cheese that still offers a bite. I had it cooked mild..but wish I asked for a bit spicier since mild wasn't spicy at all. The dinner came with only rice and I ordered the garlic naan on the side. Naan was great - nice and fluffy with bits of garlic spread out. The naan is worth the visit IMO..but I LOVE carbs in general. It also came with 3 different types of chutneys. I thought the pricing was very fair for their proportions. I could not finish the dinner in one sitting and saved the remaining for lunch. I only wished I was able to try their lunch buffet. Hopefully things will turn out for the better soon. The place has a nice interior atmosphere, more trendy and less ethnic oriented in design. They seated us and then poured 2 glasses of water, followed with a Free Appetizer that came with 3 dipping sauces and 2 pieces of motzel bread We shared the following: Chicken Tikka Masala ($13.95) Tender boneless chicken pieces broiled in "tandoor" submerged in a butter sauce, enriched with green spices and tomatoes. Alu Paratha ($3.50) Layered whole wheat bread stuffed with potatoes and topped with melted butter. Sizzling Mixed Grill ($20.95) Assorted delicacies from our charcoal fired tandoor. (Has 1 spicy spiced sausage, 3-4 pieces of chicken, 1 jumbo shrimp, on top of peppers and onions. ) Mango Lassi ($3.95) Mango flavor yogurt shake. Our favorite was the Chicken Tikka Masala, since it was just right for the both of us. I don't really deal with spicy and it was fine for me. The other dishes has me gulping down over 3 cups of water. The chicken wasn't too dry like the mixed grill plate, and it was still tender and tasty. The sauce was great for mixing with the rice, just delicious. :) But the winning item of tonight was the Mango Lassi, yogurt drink ! we fought for it :D hehe Too bad it wasn't a larger cup for the price we paid, since they put ice cubes in it too. However, I had a restaurant dot com certificate for $25 off of our total bill, so it was a great way to try a new cuisine and restaurant in my area. Shared the tandoor dinner special: lamb pasanda, murgh tikka, ch tandoori, seek kabab, pekoras and daal. The lamb pasanda is a slow cooked boneless lamb in cream and spices- yummay. The lentil and daal soups were a nice addition. The ch tandoori and seek kababs were sizable and really could've fed 3 people, not 2. We drenched basmati rice and a sombrero-sized naan in their cilantro, tamarind and pasanda dish. The veggie pekoras had lost their crunch but hey, they're fried and it's delivery. For just shy of $20, the tandoor special is an unbelivable steal. Their menu is super well priced any way you cut it. We will be trying many, many more dishes from TR sooner rather than later. read more

Someone please buy this Indian restaurant or open a new one in the area. The spot is more like a takeout spot from Jackson Heights. These people have no happy hour and charge $11 a drink and $17 a entree. Yet the waiter have long drawn out loud full conversations right in the dining area. People regular walk in for takeout and the whole restaurant a ghost town. I think they living off their takeout/deliveries. Checking this place out with not much fan fare, the weekdays AND weekends boast an all you can eat buffet with a price cheaper than most charge for a single dish! I roll in with a hunger that only hearty plates of tandoori chicken and naan will fill. Taking a seat in this fairly small restaurant with about a dozen tables and a spread filled with curry, naan, chicken and rice of various flavors and tastiness! I dig in with a full plate of the staples, chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken, naan, and basmati rice. The waiters and other customers stare at me with open eyes as I shovel the filled naan into my mouth, I realize maybe I shouldnt have come in so hungry, but I dont care, its really tasty! Got sick for the first time in all the years I've eaten from here. I eat from here every few months and I like the taste. However yesterday's meal, (21 Jan 2020) white tasty going in, made me sick from both ends. I got the Chicken Shahi Korma, Garlic Naan, and the Kulfi Ice Cream. Only thing I had that day was a light breakfast (same as every day), and this was my dinner. Within an hour or two of eating it, I threw up everything in my stomach until I was throwing up pure water; the only thing I tasted coming up was half-digested Shahi Korma. During this, it started coming out of my other end too--very messy. Sorry for being disgusting, but it was literally a pain in the ass. I spent the night as a liquid fountain from both ends, closing my mouth as I went to the bathroom, and squeezing my other end as I threw up. I went to bed nauseous, and had to get up a few times in the night to get some leftovers out of me. It's now 5 PM the next day, and I still feel a little nausea, though it's getting better. As I said, I order from here every couple of months for years--I've seen them change locations, at least once, I think twice--and this has never happened before. This place has been around for as long as I can remember, 20+ years. They had the large location across the street which now changes restaurants or restaurant names every 3-6 months. Anyways I have come here for the lunch buffets and have ordered out from here. In the 90's this place was really good and at some point kinda dropped off, but I continued to come since I love Indian food and it's a short walk away from me. Fast forwarding to present day... I came here about 3 months ago and the food was mediocre and I got a piece of raw tandoori chicken. I told one of the waiter's about it and they took it back to examine it. What's really interesting is that about 15 minutes later the waiter comes to my table with a plate of tandoori chicken all perfectly cooked just for us. It made me feel so special, especially cause the chicken was so damn delicious too. Note the place typically does not fill up. And when I was here there were only 2 other people. Then this past Saturday I came again right after the gym. It might have been because I was starving or the food actually did vastly improve. Well noteworthy thing is the place was probably 30% full, and almost everybody eating there was Indian. Everything tasted great, except maybe the chicken tikka masala, the chicken was kind of on the dry side. The best item though, was this potato thing, no idea what it was but it was delicious and spicy. Had lunch here as I was craving chicken and was expecting a usual buffet but I was very pleasantly surprised with such bold, complex flavors. Wow, completely oohed and ahhed over a few dishes like the dal makhani (intense, deep flavor), paneer makhani (delicious), chicken tikka masala (not too spicy, but satisfyingly rich), and aloo something, another chicken dish, and decent salad options. Tandoor has been a staple of my life for literally as long as I can remember. I hadn't eaten here in a couple years until just last night. The food continues to be the best Indian food anywhere in the city. I ordered a bunch of food for my non-Indian friends and they loved it as well. The chole is impeccable. I came to Tandoor when it was across the street as a kid in the mid-90s and even have pictures of the whole family smiling here. I come back to this area after years and hear from two different sources that the food quality has declined and generally it's not as good as it used to be. My boyfriend and I decided to go here anyways on a whim and boy, were we glad we did! FOOD: We ordered 2 appetizers: Vegetable Pakore and Dahi Puri. While my boyfriend joked that the pakoras were too few, I thought there was a decent amount: 3 each, 6 total for 4.99. They were crispy and not too oily. The tamarind chutney and the green chutney tasted fresh and different from the average Indian restaurant's. The Dahi Puri was okay...the ratio of yogurt and potatoes to the puris was a little off from me. For our main course, we ordered the Vegetable Thaali. The thaali was huge! It had raita, plain rice, palak paneer, pakora curry, daal makhni, and the tastiest baingan ka bharta I have tasted in a while! They also gave four pieces of naan--very warm and butter still melting. We could not stop talking about how good the food was and were glad that we gave Tandoor a chance despite some hearsay. SERVICE: We walked into the restaurant and looked around. The waiters were standing a bit back but they immediately rushed over when I made eye contact with them. They let us choose where to sit and adjusted the table for us. The waiters were just excellent the entire time and were very polite. When we asked for one extra naan, he immediately went back and placed the order and got a fresh naan back to us in 5 minutes. SUMMARY: The total cost was about $26.78 + tip which was really good for all the food we got. I can not WAIT to go back to Tandoor and I've already started encouraging my friends to go as well. Before Jackson Heights emerged as Little India complete with various eating establishments, Tandoor was our go to place for Indian food when we wanted Indian. Growing up in Queens in the 80's we thought this was the best Indian food because it was pretty much all we had, without taking a trip into Manhattan. Several years later and now having eaten at more Indian restaurants than I can count from Ohio to CT to Jackson Heights, Manhattan and Brooklyn (still haven't made it to India yet), I was in the neighborhood and went to Tandoor for their buffet lunch. Good selection and most of the food was good, without being great. The one outstanding dish was their chili chicken which sometimes can be too mild at restaurants trying to appeal to the masses. I did not like the Panjabi Kadi. It tasted pasty. One thing I love about their buffet is Pani Puri. Although Pani Puri is popular Indian chaat, it is rarely included in buffets. For average Indian fare and Pani Puri, Tandoor is a good option but I wouldn't go out of my way for a visit. read more

i went for the lunch buffet. even though it's only about 12 items, I think that it's good quality food. I love the paneer here and the curry chicken. It would have been nice if there were more items but for about $8 per person, it's pretty good. id go again for a quick eat. There isn't a lot of people there either. Maybe two to three tables are occupied. The servers are very attentive. They come with after allot. I like their cashew milk with rice as well. It's the only desert they have. I like it because it reminds me arroz con Leche....But has raw cashews in it. It was too sweet though. read more
