I bought something on Oct 11, 08, it was delivered to my local DHL facility on Oct. 17. And it just sit there for more than 10 days. It was delivered on Oct. 28, but according to their website using the tracking #, no one was home on the 1st attempt. I live in a gated area, the package would be going to our mailroom, which means they didn't bother to get the code to come into the gate. A note at the front gate specifically tell all parcel service not to do just that, and they're simply being lazy. Their excuse: they don't have the code or the person who did doesn't work there anymore. Guess what, I saw a note on my neighbor's mailbox the next day (that's inside the gate). After calling them to provide our site manager's number to get the code, they made a 2nd attempt, but again, they failed to bother to get the code. Another call to check the status after waiting for two days, they said partial of the info (including the manager's number, coincidentally) was missing from the 1st call. So I gave them the info again, and they assure me they have the info this time. Upone checking the status another two days later, to my horror, it says the package has already been returned back to the shipper. Talking to the manager Jo (badge # 1227), she said that I had to request for 3rd delivery in order for them to do so. But when asking what was the point of me providing them the info, she kept dodging the question and hinting the I didn't request for the 3rd delivery, which sounded like it was my fault. Instead of being profession by forward my advice, they simply trying to avoid taking the responsibility of they service. I ended up calling the shipper and they were awesome enough to re-order my item and send it to me via a 7 days service at a different location. I feel bad the they had to suffer additional lost of expense because of the service (or lack of it) by DHL. Unfortunately, I couldn't pick zero or half star, so I had to pick one. I should specify that not all DHL facility are like this, but the one at 7683 Earhart Dr, in Alameda CA definitely does not deserve to be in the parcel service. To all merchants, avoid using DHL if your customers are in the Alameda County, you'll make your customers happier! read more

Pretty Bad service was waiting for the package the guy never even bother leaving a note on my door, he just sent me a text stating that they had attempted to deliver which to me means they never even try, or simply just don care, i call them so i had to call my job to wait for the package that supposed have been re arranged for me to wait at my home and basically they never even bother to deliver again, so i called back and they said that the package will not be deliver which basically left me without the package and without my earned income for that matter since i had asked my boss to excuse me for the rest of the day. and for nothing, what a Name of this company, May be " D " stands for Delay," H" is for Have" and "L" for Laziness., Now that will definitely will fit their effort to Deliver their services.. HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did I mention HORRIBLE?? So I had a package overnighted from Apple. It didn't arrive the next day, so I called DHL at about 10 pm that night. They tell me that their system says it's out for delivery and will be delivered that day. I ask, "is it normal to deliver packages past 10 pm?" They told me to sit tight and wait for the delivery man. Needless to say, he never showed up that night. Or the next. Or the next. Or the next. Or the next. Or the next. Or the next. Finally, after being promised delivery the next day for 5 days the DHL customer service (AKA customer disservice) woman "special Saturday delivery overnighted" it. The woman even promised it would be there. SHE PROMISED. You know what happened.... After the Saturday delivery failed, I ended up calling Apple and taking BART into the city to get what I needed straight from the Apple Store. Apple told me to refuse the shipment when (or if) DHL ever decided to deliver the original order. Come Monday, it's sitting under the front door mat. DHL didn't even allow me the pleasure of refusing the shipment after a week of waiting around for an overnight shipment. DHL = HEADACHE = WORTHLESS. Seriously, your money is better spent on a carrier pigeon. It would probably get there faster. Oh, and pigeons don't lie to you which is a big plus in my book. read more

I had to send an important document to my daughter in law in China. I was reluctant to use DHL because of the many bad reviews I had read but really had no choice. I went to this location expecting the worst but could not have been more pleasantly surprised. The location is a little remote but when I found the proper door to enter I was met by a man named Darryl. He could not have been more professional and accommodating. I was not familiar with what I needed to do to get the document to my daughter in law but Darryl patiently and pleasantly guided me through the process. Darryl made this a pleasant and efficient experience. My biggest problem was finding the location, but Darryl made it well worth the effort. One suggestion: Darryl says to go in the morning as the location gets quite busy and confusing towards the end of the normal business day. read more

My items have been sitting at the Oakland depot for 3 days without 1 attempted delivery. When I tried calling the service lady yesterday she said she would track down my item and call me back. I sent one Monday next day delivery by noon, it arrived Friday evening after 4:30PM and the driver had the gall to tell the reciever that he's been busy after it had been on his truck for the last four day. Two other packages mailed at the same time Have been sitting in the Oakland distribution center for three days and has never been put on a truck. Now DHL's call center won't even take a phone call. When I called back, I started with my tracking number, Susan kept giving me a hard time, insisting that I gave her the name of the person who had called me, otherwise she would not be able to help me. Ok so this is the fourth time I've had a package shipped by this business and it's been a horrible experience with every delivery. Every time they say they attempted to deliver the package and no one was home. They come during hours people usually work. I've had damaged product by them delivered the box was so torn up that it was obvious even with fragile stickers all over the thing. But yesterday was finally enough to make me write this post. I had a simple shipment of contacts. Of course the usual we attempted to deliver but no one was home. I was home during the hours they claimed they dropped it off, and they didn't even bother to leave a note to fill out saying it was ok to leave by the door. I have received the poorest service from DHL. The Oakland, CA facility lacks communication skills and competent staff. Everyone from the facility who has attempted to correct the errors DHL has made has only made it worse. I am sick of being apologized to and nothing gets corrected. To add insult to injury, I spoke with a Supervisor Rich or Rick. He was rude and unwilling to correct the errors or take responsibility for the mistakes. So far, I have wasted over 5 hours on the phone, and a trip to Oakland, trying to get my package, and yet, no package. this review is for the service point only. after reading a buncha not so good reviews/complaints with their delivery service, i decided to have my package delivered to this service point for pick-up. once i got notified from the tracking info that my package was ready for pick-up, i took a lyft to head over there. getting my package from DHL express was relatively easy and smooth. you let yourself in, ring the bell for service, show them your waybill and ID, sign and receive your package. my only complaint is that the location is kinda far and a little inconvenient to get to. their hours aren't the best if you're working a regular 9-5 job since they're closed on the weekends. read more

The one star rating is about two stars too many for this company. Live everyone else I have faced their dubious "attempted delivery" routine and their incompetent and rude customer service. Worst delivery service ever! This is MY FIRST AND LAST time dealing with DHL! Got a text from them yesterday saying my package would be delivered today...ok cool great...its a pretty important package so I decided to wait on it...I checked my tracking number hourly watching the status changes and the last time I go to check it it tells me they need more info and that I need to call them...so I call and the guy at customer service (who didn't sound to eager to help) tells me the guy came and that he thinks the driver went to the upstairs apartment instead of the downstairs apartment...so he makes a note of where the driver needs to go when he comes back tommorow (when I will not be home btw) so I ask the guy on the phone if it would be possible to just pick it up tonight from their office (as I have done before with Fed Ex) and he tells me I cannot and that I could pick it up tommorow from their office if I wish...this whole process was just very frustrating and I will not be dealing with them anymore!!! DHL has been one of the worst costumer service experiences that I have ever had. They tried to deliver multiple times while I was out of town, so someone called me from this branch and had an attitude with me about coming to pick my package in the next two days before they returned it to sender. I told that person that I couldn't come until the weekend (because I was out of town) and asked her to hold it a bit longer. She agreed and even gave me of the address of this office, so that I could come pick it up over the weekend. I drove 30 minutes out of my way on a Saturday to pick up my package only to find out that the office is NOT OPEN ON THE WEEKEND, which the rep failed to mention. 1 Hour of my weekend lost. I called the number of the office listed on Yelp, but it was disconnected. I waited to the following week and called customer service to complain and asked to get the package sent to my office. I was told it would arrive within 2 days and it has been over a week. Last night I received an email notice telling me that I don't pick up my package it will be returned to sender, they have no record of my work address or the request to have it shipped to my work and as of right now I have been on hold for over 35 minutes, simply trying to fix the issue that was supposed to be resolved last week. I have now been waiting over a month for my package! I just want my package. Isn't your only job to deliver packages What are you doing. read more

I just ordered a pickup of two packages going to Greece and the DHL courier arrived within an hour of my call. Another very friendly and helpful person! A package was sent 12/21 for Next Day by 3pm delivery. It's now been 8 days and still no package and no notice that DHL has been to the house. We just called DHL and apparently it's been sitting in their facility since the 22nd. This is so frustrating. Now we have to drive to DHL to pick it up ourselves. On first glance I was worried my encounter would be like the other negative reviews I read, but I was pleasantly surprised. The staff was super friendly and very helpful. The front area is a little intimidating as there is no one there to greet you when you walk in, but the experience was fast and relatively painless. Just beware, while their policy is credit card only, that does not apply to all country. Make sure you know the policies of your country or you'll have to run out and get a money order at the post office down the street. Better yet, bring a check book! read more

If you live in an apartment complex, you'll just end up getting to drive to the airport to pick up your package, because DHL will "pretend" to deliver it, "forget" to leave a ticket for you to sign that it's okay to deliver without a signature, and you'll never see your order. This is the worst delivery company! I requested for an express delivery. My package was suppose to come in 3 days ago. Called the company they said the driver could not locate my address. I asked what address they had on file and it the correct one i had given them. DHL attemtepted again the next day. The driver says the same thing he couldnt locate my address. So im like ok....I can pick it up tomorrow( today). I called the company to verify my pick up that i set up the night before and the person on the phone says my package is out for delivery! At this point im furious. I already spoke to your representative and verified that im picking up my package. Called again today to get the status and guess what? They couldn't deliver. Big suprise. Now im on the phone and the representative says the carrier did not see the message that i will be picking up my package. Im so done with this company. My business cell phone was damaged. DHL was contracted through Asurion to replace the phone. DHL promised the phone would be delivered on Thu. When the phone didn't come, I called. They said they had "driver problems" and would deliver it on Fri. The phone didn't come on Fri., so I called. They said that I told them I would pick it up and it was not on the truck (not true). They promised to deliver it on Mon. Again, no phone. They AGAIN said I told them I would pick it up and it wasn't on the truck. I finally got it on Tue. (5 days late). They would not even refund the delivery charge, although they apologized profusely. This is a business phone and the only contact with our customers. I do not know how a delivery company that does not deliver on its promisses can stay in business. I don't think they will be in business long with this record. On a Wednesday I received a legal ltr. package from DHL at my door. I live in the only 8 story apt. building in Alameda, right on the waterfront, WHERE THEY DELIVERED. I was offered to reschedule the delivery. I rescheduled the delivery to a different day and made arrangements to be home from work that day. I received an email to confirm the reschedule. While I'm at work during the day, she can count on him for a few kind words, laughs, a friendly face. Not someone posing as a repair man stealing her blind. Though he may not be John Stamos. She's just as happy to see his face. telling me later that eve, about some funny passing joke they shared. We all need to remember are own short comings but it's obvious allot of people don't. These driver's are your neighbors, friends, family, strangers in front of you in Starbucks. There doing a great job considering traffic, accidents, weather, holidays, Bart Strikes, the idiot dog owner that bites them. I had a package of about two pounds of papers to send to Mexico so I checked the DHL website for an estimate. The $82 didn't sound unreasonable so I brought the stuff down to their new office at Jack London square. They accepted the package alright but they charged me $189! When I questioned the difference between the price estimate from their website and the actual charges (a reasonable question, I would have thought), the lady there responded in what I thought was an extremely condescending manner (as if I were unaware of the fact that businesses need to make a profit). She explained that the $82 was simply DHL's share and they couldn't help that the actual shipper wanted money as well. Actual shipper? I thought DHL WAS the shipper! I'm not particularly happy about the overcharge or the fact that they turned the package over to an unknown company but I'm actually annoyed by the snooty response I got when I questioned the state of affairs. read more

It's difficult to find the words to express what I feel about DHL without resorting to cursing in general, mindless ranting and then throwing my new computer against the wall. But I shall try. While I already have issues with UPS, DHL has now topped my list of companies I will never ship through. My sister ordered me a birthday present over 2 weeks ago. Sadly it was sent by DHL. I still have not received this present. Somehow the idiots who work there managed to get the wrong address. How is completely beyond me. While I don't believe my anger has been reflected very well but my furious typing, I will say this: don't ever use DHL. And if somehow your Amazon package is shipped with them, it might be best to just cancel and find it somewhere else. I paid extra for a graduation cap to get in time for my son's graduation. It cost more for the shipping than the cap itself. The sender used DHL specifying that the package had to be signed for. DHL only delivers during hours when most of the world works. They don't deliver on weekends or holidays, and will not give a window of time for the delivery to take place. They tried twice while I was at work. I was going to have to either take a day off work or drive to a city forty minutes away to pick it up. I tried to call the warehouse where the cap was being held to find out the hours. Their phone had been disconnected.I spoke with three customer reps in the span of a couple of days. The first two customer reps simply repeated the same information over and over, without giving me any options. The third rep was helpful in suggesting how we may be able to resolve the issues.
