The work was a two day process from cleaning out the existing insulation from the attic and adjusting the ductwork, to sanitizing and air sealing all the cracks inside and outside, and filling with R-49 insulation. From the entrance of the house to the attic access, they spent the time putting down a barrier to prevent any mess to the rest of the house. But even after cleaning it out, the smell wasn't going away. Then the vent started giving off either smoke or steam, and in a panic I immediately turned off the dryer. Thank God I didn't start a dryer fire. The second I shut it off and made sure everything was ok, I opened Yelp and searched for a dryer vent cleaner. Chris's Insulation came up, he had great ratings, he was super close by, so after calling a different service and going to voicemail, I called Chris. Chris picked up after the second ring. When I told him that I needed someone to clean our dryer vent and what had happened, he said he could come out either between 5:00 and 6:00 pm that evening or the next day. It was already mid-afternoon when I called, so I was surprised to hear him say he could still come out same-day, but I decided to have him do that since I was free and also still a little shaky following what happened with the vent either smoking or steaming. Chris showed up during the window he quoted and wasted no time getting to work. He started the second he arrived and was done within the hour. His pricing was incredibly reasonable and fair and so far, in the couple of weeks since he was here, we've had no issues with the dryer. I left a voicemail yesterday morning, Jose called back a few hours later, and we made an appointment for this morning. He called before leaving the job prior to my appointment, and arrived at the estimated time. He went up to look at the leak area, and assured us that it will be OK to let it to dry out. My husband asked him to look around the attic, to see if there was anything that needed to be done. He noticed an area around a water heater pipe that for safety reasons shouldn't have insulation, and removed what had fallen in around the pipe. He thought we could add some new insulation material after we repaired the roof leak, to fill in areas that have been lost due to workers and rats moving insulation around .
