Great pizza and excellent service. We came here on a road trip to Indianapolis. I have driven by several times on the way to St. Joseph, but I never stopped in. The interior is pleasantly dated, but clean. There is a bar to sit at, but we chose a booth in the bar area. The server was prompt and kept our glasses full. We had soda, but I could see the bartender making margaritas in a small blender at the bar. We'll have to try one next time. I ordered the anchovi plate to start. It looked and tasted great. When the pizza arrived it was well made with plenty of toppings. They offer paper plates, which is perfect for the atmosphere. read more

No seasoning on pizza and not cut properly should be squares not rectangles but the main thing wasn't seasoning very bland other than that it was a decent pizza but it was disappointing because it could have been a good pizza.. I got regular crust large mushroom and green peppers.. oh also too many peppers I guess I should have said light on the peppers but the way the guy who answered the phone wasn't very friendly and hung up quickly while I was about to ask for the total.. My brother treated me, my other brother and sil to lunch. We all opted for the lasagna and it was yummy. Sauce was very flavorful and bread fresh and warm. Growing up, my grandparents had a cottage right down the block from Dimaggios. We are from Chicago so we know good pizza. This place puts any Chicago pizza to shame! Friendly staff, great food, and great pizza! It's like walking back into the 60s going here, and I Iove it. I havent been there in years, but felt it was only right to look them up and write a review. Many happy memories with the family here. After returning from the nearby beach, we always hit up Dimaggios for dinner or lunch. I wish we still had the cottage so my kids could experience the tranquility and way of life in this area of Michigan. All the locals are friendly. I remember one time they ordered my grandparents a round of drinks and even played a sinatra song for them on the juke box, knowing we were Italian. Hats off to Dimaggios. Ordered an hour ahead for pickup and said we would be there at 7:45 but the lady on the phone told us we could only order for 7:30 or 8... Okay. So we order for 7:30 even though we knew we wouldn't be able to get there until 7:40. We get there at 7:40 and they tell us that they never got our order and rudely told us to check to see if we called the right place. Does anyone else see a pattern when it comes to a grumpy mean nasty waitress. I've seen her described in at least 5-6 other reviews for this pizza place and they are spot on! Rude and nasty; she must be part owner or something, because I would fire her butt if I owned the place. Food good 4, server 1 to a 0. Never seen the like. Her name started with a D, she is a rather big women also. Look out for this one, or better yet, get take out. Wow what a B!!!! Lousy food, lousy service, lousy seating, lousy payment options. My husband and I went here for the first time yesterday after driving by many times and thinking it had potential. We were wrong. We were met at the door by a sign that said "Cash and checks only - no credit cards accepted." Thankfully I had cash, or we'd have driven there for nothing. They have an ATM inside, though my gut tells me there's a fee to use it - just like my gut told me not ever to send that awful food down to it again. When we stepped inside, there was a small, but quiet dining room to the right - with a sign in front of it saying, "Dining Room Closed." This left only sitting in the bar area with TVs that had the news on, about 4-5 booths - the hard kind, not padded - and a few tables. We sat at a booth. After a few more small groups wandered in, all the booths were taken, and then a couple groups of 4 people each came in. One well-dressed man asked for a table for his group of 4. There was only one table big enough - a large one right in front of the door to the place on a 50-degree night. The waitress - a middle aged, stocky woman, told him he could sit at the table he said he didn't want, or he could wait - he couldn't sit in the dining area "Because I'm the only one on and I can't see over there!" -He said, "We'll go somewhere else" and walked out. The waitress later came to our table and complained to us about the guy. I was on his side, thought she was rude, and didn't care to hear her complaining about the restaurant's clients. A note: I've heard from servers in other restaurants that when they're the only one on, it's not because there was no one else to come in to work, it's because they WANT to be the only one on so they make enough money on tips to make it worth their while to come in on a weeknight or a lunch hour. I don't know if that was the case here, but the result is always the same: the customers get crappy, insufficient service so a waitress can make a few more dollars. The first server who came to our table was a skinny, middle-aged woman. Never smiled; nothing gracious about her. She took our drink order - they have Pepsi, not Coke - brought our drinks and said, "I have things to do. I'll be back later," and walked away. Then the stocky woman became our server. They only have meat sauce, no marinara. I ordered the Rigatoni with meatballs, my husband ordered a pizza. We waited 20-25 minutes for our food, with no one stopping by to say it was coming soon or to get refills on drinks. The only stop was when the waitress dropped a stack of Dollar-store-like white paper plates (we're talking PAPER) on the table. Like the cheapest ones I'd ever seen. When our food eventually came, the waitress had her thumb in my Rigatoni. Not that it would have burned her - it was, at best, lukewarm. That was kind of -well, VERY - gross. She even had sauce from my entree on her thumb when she set it down. The rigatoni noodles hadn't been drained, so there was a puddle of water and water-thinned sauce sloshing on the surface of the plate. The food was somewhere between cool and cold. My husband, who LOVES pizza, said theirs was one of the worst pizzas he'd ever had. "The whole thing is TASTELESS," is what he said - asking, "How can cheese and pepperoni be TASTELESS?" -adding the crust, too had no flavor - and noting they'd used canned mushrooms. No one ever came to ask how our food was. Maybe because they know their food is awful, so they don't need to ask? After waiting at least 15 minutes for our check, I finally walked up to the bar where the one waitress was talking to a couple of guys and pouring them drinks (she was the bartender, too), and I asked for our bill. She said she'd bring us "boxes" for our food. We'd decided maybe our dogs would eat it, so we took it home. PS - they give you a paper bag to slide your pizza in, not a box, so by the time we got home the top of the bag was soaked with grease from the cheese they use. After she brought the "boxes" THEN we finally got our bill and were free to get the h*ll out of that place. We will NEVER go back there. The only thing I can imagine about the people who say they like this place is they simply don't know what good food is or what good service looks like. read more

We had the beef au jus which was delicious. The lasagna was a generous portion with the most delicious sauce; very cheesy with lots of meat. Obviously homemade. The thin crust pizza was delicious with the best cheese. Someone else from Chicago commented they didn't use real cheese. Hogwash! Their cheese is delivered by Battaglia out of Chicago. We went there on a rainy afternoon and during our stay the restaurant totally filled up and there was just one waitress to handle the whole place. She did a great job of keeping everyone happy and fed. Our pizza arrived quickly and was absolutey delicious. Crispy thin crust, lots of cheese and toppings - we had no complaints whatsoever.
