I wanted to check out what all the buzz on social media was about with this new spot, especially since it promises real, authentic Jamaican food along with traditional Jamaican ingredients, spices, and drinks that truly bring a taste of the island and its people. I stopped by shortly after they opened, so most of the cooked food wasn't ready yet, which is totally understandable. I was especially hoping to see their butcher and seafood sections, but both were empty at the time. I do plan to come back later in the afternoon on my next visit to give them more time to prepare the cooked food and to see if the meat and seafood selections are available. Even so, I picked up some popular coco bread, a soursop drink, and several spice blends. I'm excited to cook with them and bring some authentic Jamaican flavor into my kitchen. I'm looking forward to my next visit. The location was very clean which creates great ambience. The owner even stopped me to ask if there is anything, I want that I could not find and she would ensure to have it ordered and stocked. Now that's great customer service.

I was born and raised in the 818 (San Fernando Valley), and I've tried just about every Jamaican/Caribbean spot out here from One876 to Corey's Jamaican, Jerk Cafe, Restaurant to Satdown Jamaican Restaurant. None of them are touching Di Mart. No shade, just facts. I've had the oxtails, jerk chicken, and beef patties so far, and every single thing has been amazing. I've literally been eating here back to back because the food is that good. The rice and peas are fresh, the pumpkin rice tastes like it's made fresh every day, and one day I walked in and saw them making fresh jerk chicken on the grill. It honestly felt like I was transported back to the Jamaica. That authentic feeling and flavor is something the Valley has been missing. I also have to give a huge shoutout to Shira (I hope I'm spelling her name correctly). Her customer service is a 10/10. She is so kind, welcoming, and attentive. She took my order on Saturday and really listened to what I wanted. She even gave me a side of oxtail gravy and jerk chicken sauce to go with my food because I'm definitely a sauce girl and yall complaining about the price but if yall don't got it just say that boo nahh just kidding but yea. The entire staff is amazing, and you can tell there is real care put into this business. The San Fernando Valley needed a Jamaican restaurant like Di Mart. I'm not trying to do too much with this review, but people deserve their flowers when flowers are due, and Di Mart deserves all of them. In my opinion, this is the number one Jamaican restaurant in the Valley. No shade. If you haven't tried it yet, go support them. You won't regret it.

So excited to finally find a Caribbean marketplace that truly has it all authentic spices, fresh produce, and halal products all in one place. Their Jamaican restaurant is a 10/10, the staff is incredibly welcoming, and the space is clean and well organized. Places like this do more than serve food they bring the Caribbean community together, celebrate culture, and create a true feeling of home.

Oxtail side two little oxtails for 18 dollars gotta be a joke had to pour juice in the rice it was so plain !!!

I honestly can't believe I never knew about this little gem in Van Nuys off of White Oak and…read moreVanowen! So I wanted to have a few friends come over with their kids on Sunday so they could play and we could watch football. I decided to hop on the grill, grab some drinks and make it a fun little day for everyone. I checked to see if my normal butcher spot was open but to my surprise it was permanently shut down. So I decided to look for a place nearby and came across Danny's Fresh Meat produce right around the corner from me. So I hop in the car and head over! It's in the same parking lot as Salsa and Beer so finding a park is always tough especially on a weekend. That parking lot is a nightmare but once you get a park it's all good. I walked in and it's a very small shop with a cashier in the front, two small isles of produce and meat in the back. It seems like it's all locals because everyone was talking to, who I assume was Danny, in the back working with the guys cutting up the meat. When it came to my turn, I told him I'd never been here so he explained what they do, how they cut the meat, the type of meats they have and that he's been there for 30 years! He is an extremely nice and helpful Armenian guy who has completely won me over. There are a few local places I love supporting in my community and he'll definitely be one of them. The place was very clean and organized. There wasn't a lot of produce but just enough to get your essentials. As for the meat, I picked up a pound and a half of beef loin tenderloin steak at $25.99 a pound and two pounds of marinated chicken breast cut in half's. He told me the steak would melt in my mouth and he told no lies!! The steak was so tender and everyone was asking where I got it from. He made sure to let me know he can slice it up any which way I needed it to be. Overall, Danny's is the perfect spot to grab some local produce and meat if you want to support your local businesses. It always feels good helping out people in your community. Beware of the parking though. 5 out of 5 Afros OOOOO
