I honestly can't believe I never knew about this little gem in Van Nuys off of White Oak and Vanowen! So I wanted to have a few friends come over with their kids on Sunday so they could play and we could watch football. I decided to hop on the grill, grab some drinks and make it a fun little day for everyone. I checked to see if my normal butcher spot was open but to my surprise it was permanently shut down. So I decided to look for a place nearby and came across Danny's Fresh Meat produce right around the corner from me. So I hop in the car and head over! It's in the same parking lot as Salsa and Beer so finding a park is always tough especially on a weekend. That parking lot is a nightmare but once you get a park it's all good. I walked in and it's a very small shop with a cashier in the front, two small isles of produce and meat in the back. It seems like it's all locals because everyone was talking to, who I assume was Danny, in the back working with the guys cutting up the meat. When it came to my turn, I told him I'd never been here so he explained what they do, how they cut the meat, the type of meats they have and that he's been there for 30 years! He is an extremely nice and helpful Armenian guy who has completely won me over. There are a few local places I love supporting in my community and he'll definitely be one of them. The place was very clean and organized. There wasn't a lot of produce but just enough to get your essentials. As for the meat, I picked up a pound and a half of beef loin tenderloin steak at $25.99 a pound and two pounds of marinated chicken breast cut in half's. He told me the steak would melt in my mouth and he told no lies!! The steak was so tender and everyone was asking where I got it from. He made sure to let me know he can slice it up any which way I needed it to be. Overall, Danny's is the perfect spot to grab some local produce and meat if you want to support your local businesses. Danny's has been consistently putting out great filet at a well deserved price tag for quite some time now. I paid a tad over $120 for 10 lbs a week ago. They are quick and friendly with the service. Danny's is a family run butcher and produce store. They treat every customer like family and even their employees. This is evident, as there is no turnover. Never going anywhere else but Danny's for my meat! Stopped in today for the first time to get some filets for a cookout and the guy behind the counter was busy cutting some steaks straight off the tenderloin. So so fresh, beautiful maroon color and marbling ... my mouth was watering. The guy behind the meat counter was very friendly and attentive, made sure we were getting exactly what we needed. For 4 6-8oz steaks, it was only 20 bucks! When I've gone to Whole Foods and gotten the same thing (but slightly lower quality) in the past, it totals out to 35 at the least so this was a nice change. The produce is also very fresh and inexpensive ... there isn't a *huge* selection, but they've got all your basics. I was so surprised at the low price for all this fresh, delicious food. read more

I been in this area for about 2 years now and im so happy we have a awesome place like this within walking distance. Looks like a family run Butcher/Produce shop. My buddy Armen the Electrician introduced me to this place and their super delicious marinated Filet. Everyone inside is super welcoming, courteous, and helpful especially the younger gentlemen behind the meat counter. He was helpful on how much filet to get for my game of throne party of 6. He took about 5 minutes to marinate it for me. i haven't tried the produce yet even though it looks fresh but im just a meat kinda guy for now. read more

I've been comiing here for many years. Honest family owned small business. They have Marinated Filet mignon which is really the only reason I'm come here. I'll also get brown chicken Thighs that are also marinated. They have ground beef they have everything they even have a produce section with fruits and vegetables at a very very reasonable price. I stumbled across Danny's about a year ago and took home a couple of filet mignon to see how they stood up to Whole Foods. The price was half of WF and I was skeptical, until we cut into them. The first thing I noticed was the fine web of marbling throughout the steaks. I figured I was just lucky that day. So I went back, again and again and again. Now I buy a couple of pounds for the two of us, sometimes I sous vide with s/p and butter or high quality rendered bacon fat. Then I sear in a hot iron skillet. They grill up beautifully too. Heavenly. Plus, these people are genuinely kind. Every time I go I ask the same question, "WHY are your tenderloin so much better than Whole Foods?" They have never answered. They just smile. They don't do a lot of different cuts or meats, but what they do have is superior, in price and quality. Oh, the woman at the register took the time to tell me how to roast the fresh pistachios. I found this place on Yelp and I thought I give it a try today. I walked in and I told the guy that I heard the beef fillet is really good here, he started laughing and agreed. I got 2lbs as a tester and headed home, when I was placing the fillet on the skewers, I could already tell the quality of the meat based on the seasoning, the color, smell and texture- Sure enough, this beef fillet was the best I have ever tried. So in short, don't waste your time driving around town to find quality, this is the spot. I have tired numerous Armenian places that advertise they have the best fillet mignon for BBQ but Danny's, is by far the very best. It's a little hole in the wall, but the quality is just amazing. It's a little bit more per pound then other spots, but you can't put a price tag on Armenian BBQ, bc at the end of the day it's quality that matters.
