A block or two west of the DMV in Winnetka is a little family owned Vietnamese market that carries all kinds of really cool Asian products. I like to come here for the veggies because they always look so fresh and the prices are reasonable They also have a small fish counter and a small meat counter. And a number of frozen and refrigerated sections throughout the store. It's a great little place to explore and I mean you really have to explore. But I like the best about it is that they have so many products, and the selection is really good for such a small store. I find a lot of things here that I can't find anywhere else. read more

I have been going to this market at least once a month for the last 2.5 years. It is nice to have a vietnamese market down the street from where I live. All the cashier has been super nice and welcoming. I never had an issue at all with customer service... but they might have hired a new young female cashier recently. I was patiently waiting in line for two customers checking out their groceries in front of me. The older female customer from behind me cut me and went straight to the cashier to check out her 2-3 items. I felt it was super rude that the female customer didn't ask, and the cashier just checked her out without saying anything.. she didn't acknowledge that i was rudely cut in line. First time here even though the lady said they've been there for ten years. I was very pleased to know that they are near my mother's house. But mostly the place is nice and clean and very organized. I called here before I came over to see if they carry this vegetable like spinach. Asian spinach. The lady described it to me over the phone and it sounded like it's what I was looking for and sure enough they have it. So I am very happy about that. They have a small fresh fish section that is organized and clean. They also have fresh meats and poultry. I like that they have free range chicken! I'll be trying that for sure. Its pretty tough finding things that you need for traditional asian cooking at home here in the valley but this place seems to have pretty much everything you'd need. Albeit, not everything is of the greatest quality but cmon, its a small mom and pop kinda shop. They're trying to make it by buying small amounts of things you would find at 99 ranch or the Hong Kong superstore and making sure that we have access to things like that in the valley. Where I live, I don't have time to drive out to get certain asian veggies, noodles, or asian sauces at a 99 ranch or larger retailer but this place always has my back. The ladies working there are always nice and they're trying their best to do their thing. So, I'm all about it. I love this little shop. They have items unique to Vietnam like Bretel Butter in a can sometimes used to make bahn me sandwiches ! I come here for the instant Cafe Pho coffee which is strong and delicious as well as the hot pot mix both wayyy less expensive than the price on Amazon. Great variety of Viet and Thai items and the checkers are nice and friendly. Don't think they carry Korean items though. read more

We were staying with my bro in Simi Valley when I was told that I was making dinner the next night. We went to the local grocery and got everything except for the fresh lemongrass...they had some at Ralph's (5 bonus points), but it looked AWFUL (25 penalty points)! Went home, got on Yelp (of course) and found this place. The next morning, 'A' and I did a short road trip. We walk in to find a decent selection of fresh produce, including fresh lemongrass. Mission accomplished...but it all looked so good that we started selecting things we hadn't planned on buying. I got some ginger root and some fresh Thai(?) chilis. 'A' found a can of pickled jalapenos that she needed for a side she was preparing, the same brand that we get back in Texas...hmmm. I spied some duck eggs on a shelf near the produce. I asked the young man at the cash register if these were fresh or preserved eggs. He told me that they were fresh AND, how should I say this, occupied. The unfertilized fresh duck eggs were in the far corner refrigerator. Got some and made a great breakfast. We go to check out and were again reminded of the grocery bag law in California...we didn't bring one. When we explained that we're from Texas, we learned that the family that runs this market recently moved here from just outside of Dallas. We swapped some tall tales... Nice folks. While we didn't need any this visit, I need to point out that they do have a meat counter and a fresh seafood counter on the other side of the store. I can get all of the items sold here at home, but not in one stop. I wish there was a market like this in my neighborhood. read more

Went into this place looking for something I wouldn't find at Ralph's or any of the big chains. I was not disappointed. They have a small latino section that wasn't that limited. Large selection of frozen seafood (fishballs, ground pork for meatballs, squid, small fish, and much more). Fresh produce was very fresh (everything looked like it was picked that morning). Lots of fresh greens (most of which you wouldn't find at any of the big Super Markets). When I didn't know what I was looking at, I asked the lady at the check-out. She came back and explained what all the greens were and how to use them. Excellent service. She even showed me what she had cooked herself for lunch to give me more ideas. I recently needed a few things to make vegetarian sushi and found out the market carries a large variety of vegan mock meats in their frozen food section. I purchased several of their options including soy bacon that you cut into the desired thickness of slices yourself! I've never seen that before and it was delicious! It was also fun going through the aisles and finding interesting products as well as snacks, cookies and Mochi deserts too! Posting an update on Hoa Viet Market. Not sure if it's because of recent events i.e. Covid 19, protesting but all their prices have been substantially increased. Dare I say price gouging? Prices are double and at times triple the market price. I understand that all small businesses are hurting during this time but I don't feel that it's ethical to increase prices to this extent. I'm sad to say I will not be returning. There are plenty of other asian markets that carry the same products within a 5 mile radius with fair prices such as Ranch 99 and Bangluck market. True, you might not get the customer service but I'm willing to take that trade off. read more

Great prices, they clean and fry fish for you at no additional cost. Had all the things you'd need to make an authentic Vietnamese meal. Drove up from topanga to find some ethnic ingredients. Minus one star as they misunderstood me and cleaned/chopped the fish instead of frying it whole and also some produce looked wilted. Found some rare items there such as galanga root which is in the ginger family but has a more piney citrusy flavor. read more

This supermarket isn't easy to find but it's located in a big plaza. I found the pricing to be a little bit on the high end but not terribly expensive. If you're looking for an oriental supermarket you're limited in the Valley so I did make a few purchases here for convenience. The people are friendly which is always important to me. read more

Staff wasn't helpful at all. I asked the cashier guy if he could help me find cornstarch and all he said as he didn't bother to look up from his phone was "Aisle 7, on the bottom." So...I looked and looked and said "I can't find it (nicely). He then responded "Aisle 7, bottom left." Like okay dude, this is YOUR store. Why can't you assist your guest in looking for it? This is a lovely, small, clearly family-owned market (although bigger than I had anticipated). Nothing fancy, just good quality items at reasonable prices. Went here a few days ago in search for arrowroot. I was going to give it a try since I heard that it can help clear acne, and I thought that since it's just a root, it wouldn't hurt to try. When I found it and went to pay, the lady asked if I knew how to use it, and I told her what I knew. She gave me other suggestions, and even showed me around to other items they had that were believed to help with acne (all herbal stuff with no scientific studies or anything, just things that seemed to help others). So, even if this stuff doesn't work (everything's a shot in the dark with herbal remedies), I'll definitely be coming back here and trying other stuff, even just the food. They were polite and very friendly, and the majority of their items is wicked cheap! read more

Horrible. I went there and was looking for Vegan food. I got 6 items. When i saw the receipt I see 7 items listed. The 7th item was named "grocery". It was $6! I spent $14 and got extra $6 for "grocery". What was it? Tax? Is there tax for food in california? And this is more than 10.5% of tax. So, watch out for this marked. They are charging money extra, in other words, stealing. read more

I went here this morning just to look around. They have some very interesting stuff,initially I was just browsing ,but several items caught my eye,so decided to get some noodle soup for lunch .The lady that worked the front counter was very helpful after I told her I couldn't eat wheat and I was looking for rice noodles,she showed me different varieties of rice noodles and even showed me some pork buns made with rice flour. I ended up getting some salted duck eggs,a pork bun and noodle soup which was only about $7.00 . Since the market is close to my house, I have plans to go back again for groceries. Word of warning the duck eggs are good but very salty,the lady suggested having it with rice ,so I might do that next time. So if you are in the market for Asian food at a good price and live in Canoga Park,this is a nice place ,very affordable. read more

Great little Asian specialty foods market in Canoga Park. You can't do all if your supermarket shopping here, but they fill in the goods that your neighborhood market doesn't have. If you live in the area and need asian spices, sauces, noodles, special ingredients, exotic fruits and vegetables or fresh fish, check it out. Prices are competitive and it's a lot closer than the big box Asian market over in Van Nuys. I bought some fish sauce on sale at the bigger market a week or so ago for $4.49, but they sell the exact same thing here for $3.39! Workers are friendly, and I think I even noticed one of the live catfish in the tank wink at me. They'll even fry the fish for you if you like. It's one block west of Desoto on the north side of the street on Sherman Way. There's plenty of parking. Please be aware that the store frontage is perpendicular to the main street so if you are driving west and glance over, you might miss it. read more
