Real authentic Italian, great Italian hoagie. Great bread! Many choices! Great food.

Made an out of the way regular stop on my way back to Florida to purchase their delicious home made dried hot and sweet supresatta only to find out they have been replaced with a pre-packaged mass produced brand. Sadly, the quality is not even close. Oh well; convenience is a sign of the times I guess. That being said, I still love this place! I still spent close to $100 on deli, corropolese pizza, bread and other goodies! read more

I have been shopping here for almost a decade now - and it is truly wonderful. The freshly made eggplant slices, and garlicky broccoli rabe are outstanding. (We get it by the pound or you can order a sandwich or hoagie). The guys who run the place (Tony? The Argentine guys.) and the ladies who work up front are always so nice to me. Great in-house roast pork, too. Tons of Deli meats and cheeses. read more

Some one put Di Scala's on my radar quite some time ago and I was finally in the area so I sought them out. Nice large store/deli located just south of Chester. Lots of refrigerated pre made foods to choose from but I was there for a hoagie. I decided on corned beef but only saw it as a sandwich special. The lady helping me said she could put it on a roll instead. I got what would be considered a "half" and my sandwich was very good. The roll was perfection and the igredients were fresh but the meat was cut just a little to thick for my personal preference. The price was definitely right as well. Highly recommended. read more

Stopped here the other day for the first time ever after living in Aston for a long time. I was excited to see on their website they had dinners to order, however when I arrived they said they no longer serve dinner platters which was a little bit of a bummer, but oh well! I ordered a chicken parm sandwich which took them about 10-15 minutes to make which I didn't mind since I had no where to be. Only had seeded rolls towards the end of the day, which again I didn't mind. I actually prefer seeded rolls. The inside is dated like you'd expect an old school Italian deli to be. The guy Vince who took my order was very sweet, however the staff seemed a bit all over the place when interacting with each other. Again, in an Italian deli, shouting back and forth to your employees about things they're doing "wrong" isn't uncommon, especially when you expect a certain quality of food to be served to your customers. However, for people who are not used to this, I could see how it would be a bit intense. That all being said, my sandwich was delicious. A woman who worked in the deli was literally checking on it every couple of minutes, which I appreciate because again, she expects a certain quality of food. The roll was perfectly soft and wasn't the least bit stale for it being the end of the day. The chicken cutlet was thin and delicious and cooked perfectly. No rubbery chicken here folks. The cheese on top was melted evenly across the sandwich! I do wish there was a little more sauce on it because the sauce had a great flavor, but no big deal. read more

Nothing to speak of from the outside but once you get inside you see this is the real deal. Old world Italian isn't just a great sandwich but the namesake for this gem. Every sandwich is done with an artisans touch. Even the ice works staff come here for their meals instead of the place in the rink. Beware the large feeds two and the jumbo feeds four. read more

Had never tried this place before, so I stopped and picked up a chicken cutlet sandwich for my husband last week. It was topped with sharp provolone, broccoli rabe and hot peppers. I didn't get the chance to try it myself or get a picture cause he ate the whole thing. It's not a big place but they have a bunch of stuff to offer... lots of yummy looking Italian stuff. A nice Italian market. Great sandwiches and I pick up my tomato pies, pepperoni from there.

We came in for chicken cutlets because our regular place doesn't do hot sandwiches on Sundays. I've had this place bookmarked for a while to try and it did not disappoint. My husband got the chicken parm sandwich and I got the cutlet sandwich with mozz and broccoli rabe. Both were really good and inside the deli is really authentic. I was making so many mental notes to come back to do some ingredient shopping. We will be back! read more

Tomato pie aka breakfast pizza in Sal Philly! Walked in looking for a 'Sambo' you know a sandwich to us construction guys & a I didn't leave out dissatisfied. Went home with 2 pies & a chicken cutlet Supreme oh & a 2 strombolis to heat & eat for the next day. Wow! This Italian hoagie was so good I was smiling (like a dope) while eating, and for a while afterward. Each and every ingredient was TOP Italian quality. Crazy-sharp provolone, prosciutto like none other, capicola that belongs in a museum, roasted peppers that could have been a dish on their own, and crusty fresh bread straight from an pro's oven! Holey moley this was good! We went in to buy some olive oil because we ran out of the specialty stuff we bought at Carlino's, and we hoped this place would have something comparable. We found a good imported olive oil there, and could not resist trying the food. I have a whole list of good hoagie spots, but you gotta find an Italian place to get a good Italian one. Supposedly Primo's is known for Italians... we (RELUCTANTLY) tried Primo's ONCE. It was crap. If we had known this place existed, and what we could buy with our money instead, we would never have set foot in an icky Primo's. DiScala's is probably the BEST Italian hoagie my husband and I have ever had. (And my husband works near S. Philly, so he is shown the host of top Ital hoagies on offer in this area.) We cannot say enough great things about the extremely high quality of this food. We had to wait in line (for a while) to get this sandwich, but I would do it again in a heartbeat! Phenomenal! Outstanding sandwiches!!! Got the basic turkey Swiss etc and it was anything but basic. Super good, starting with excellent rolls.

Would give 0 if I could. Looked online before stopping in on a Sunday. Website says they close at 5. It was 3:45 and when the boy at the register asked what he could help with, I placed my deli order. The miserable woman behind the counter started mumbling something to him and he turned around and said "I'm sorry, were kind of like closing and cleaning up, sorry". Baffled at how I just entered this establishment with an open sign in the window and unlocked doors and was just turned away like that, I left. Waiting outside to see if the open light would get turned off or the doors locked, nothing. I then called the store at 3:53, and politely asked when they close, the boy told me uhh it'll be around 4:30 or so. I asked to speak to someone, owner, manager, someone. And was told to call back in 20 minutes. Called back in 25 minutes, the phone was answered and hung up, and then was put off the hook. Won't be back. What poor customer service. read more

I read about this place while browsing yelp. I finally made it there Tuesday this week. I was back again on Thursday and will definitely be back more times after that. Amy was so helpful and apparently pretty new to the job. Very impressive and very customer service friendly. I've only tried the Italian roast pork and the cannolis. The cannoli shells are not filled until you order. One of the best cannolis I've ever had. There's no way I'm not grabbing one every time I grab a sandwich there. read more

I stopped by this shop on my way out of PA last week (11/8/2016). I was visiting PA for work but I also have family here. I was born in the Chester area of PA and moved to VA when I was 6 however the one thing that always stuck with me was how amazing the hoagies were when going back to visit. Here in VA, they are called "subs" which I hate. I also have yet to find an authentic "italian" mom and pop shop that has offered anything that can compete with a Philly hoagie. Unfortunately, WaWa provides the best hoagies here. Anyways, on my way out I wanted to grab some hoagies for travel to take home to family and friends. I remember my father always bringing home LaSpadas, Lees, Dons, and I've taken home Primos the other year I was up. I wanted to try something off suggestion of everyone else so I happened to find this on my way out last week. I walked in and asked for 6 travel old world italians. The older man, short guy, glasses & mustache seemed very humble and nice. It took them about 25 minutes or so to get my sandwiches ready for travel, I could smell the meats, cheeses, I was so excited that I wish I ordered one for the road now. Once I was home I removed the hoagies from the bags and took a few to work to my boss and manager. My boss couldn't resist and ate it 8am in the morning at his desk while I was talking to him about business. All I could hear were moans of food ecstasy. He loved it. Everyone who had one loved it except my mom. She said it didn't taste like a "normal" hoagie. I'm not sure what she was talking about. The bread, the Prosciutto, the capocollo, the sharp provolone were phenomenal. I think the richness of the provolone is what threw her off. She is use to sandwiches with regular provolone. Me personally, prefer rich, strong cheeses. Anyways, I would definitely come here again and plan to next time I am in PA. read more

An oasis of delicious food in a white bread and Oskar Meyer bologna town. They have a pretty nice selection of salumi, cheese, olives and lots of other Italian specialties as well as traditional and Italian cold cuts. The owners and staff are always friendly and accomodating. Breads are a bit pricey though. Cascia's bakery is only in Morton and much cheaper and some local Pathmarks carry their bread for under 2 bucks for a big baguette. All that said, you can be a very fortunate person living here. You really don't have to venture to 9th Street in Philly. Take a visit to Total Wine and pick up a bottle from their nearly unlimited wine collection, followed by a stop at DiScala and you can have a pretty great Friday night! read more

Employees don't wear masks and the service was horrible. I ordered a sandwich for pickup and when I got there to pick it up I stood at the counter for 5 minutes and I was never acknowledged. They weren't busy, they were gossiping amongst themselves about another employee who left early. Nobody offered to help me but I could see my sandwich waiting for me to pick it up. I walked out without the sandwich. It might be the best food in town but I won't be back so I'll never know. read more

Di Scala is top notch. Their food is always fresh and their sandwiches are great! I've had the Panino Italiano about a hundred times and it never disappoints. They also have a great selection of imported meats and cheeses as well as fresh made pasta and sauces. The family is always so nice and friendly, even when my co workers and I come in and order 5+ sandwiches during a busy lunch rush. "Quality Italian Products!!" If you know what is the best, this is the place to get it. Chicken Cutlet w/broc rabe & sharp prov is delicious! Their sharp prov cannot get any better! Had same sandwich from Primos in Aston, no comparison. They also sell marinated anchovies that are really good & Springfield Ravioli Products. They get their bread daily from Collegeville Bakery and can not compare to any bakery that most area sandwich shops get their rolls from. Good luck & continue with such quality foods!
