I don't usually leave reviews, but Country Deli absolutely deserves it. This place is a hidden gem in the Media area . The food is consistently fresh, portions are generous, and everything just tastes like it's made with care. Their breakfasts are top notch--perfect bread, with tons of options- not just white , wheat or rye...quality meats, and potatoes from heaven. You can tell they don't cut corners. Pancakes are also excellent. Although my request to get one in the shape of a unicorn was denied, only Mickey. LOL They have some homemade baked goods that are killer as well. Try the famous Bryan's Irish soda bread as your toast for a true taste reminiscent of the Emerald Isle. Better yet take one home, like I did. Lunch is fantastic as well...I just wish I could go for that more often. Try the "N" sammy if you like London broil. it's crazy good. What really stood out though was the service. Super friendly, quick, and they actually remember repeat customers. It's the kind of spot that feels local in the best way. Think Norm from Cheers. I haven't visited for a few years now because my last experience was repulsive. Perhaps it was a coincidence but I received very odd treatment (abnormal from all my prior experiences) here when we asked non-white friends to join us for lunch. We were seated in the corner by the cookie jars, 3 kids among us. The waitress for some reason could not hear my non-white friend even though she was perfectly audible to me, and I was audible to the waitress (not speaking any louder than my friend). Nonetheless, my friend had to repeat herself more than once, and I felt her guard go up that the treatment was odd. My protective instinct for them (and my child) went up as well. The food took an extremely long time but that can happen at lunch because they are very busy. What was odd was that my friend was given an order of fries she never asked for--I heard her order THREE TIMES and somehow the waitress still did not get it right. I will add that the waitress was extremely preoccupied with a male customer, flirting, giggling and acting like a high schooler (she was 20-something). I get being giddy in a new relationship but it was completely distracting her from her job and was totally inappropriate especially considering all the mistakes she was making. We also had to wait extremely long periods between being given water, ketchup (again, my friend's request), our bill, etc. Worst part, the bill was extremely high and included about $15 more than what we ordered. We were charged for the fries she mistakenly (on purpose?) gave us, and the wrong sandwiches were on there too. You know what I did? I did the "nice white girl" thing and obediently made no fuss and left a tip that waitress never deserved. It's sad I was confused and overwhelmed by the sh!tty treatment and in denial about what happened. Yes, I should have made a complaint then and there but they'd already made us late for the arboretum, plus when you treat people passive aggressively, and you make 3 kids between 1 and 5 have to sit for an hour of the slowest incompetent service ever, I had to just pay and leave because I was not going to make a scene in front of kids and the place was slammed with people so I'd have had to further wait for someone to be available. However I did attempt to call them multiple times in the days after but no one picked up during lunch hours when I called. They have no email address I could find to show my receipt and as the days passed I had a million other things to do as the mom of a young child so that's how it goes when a business has no email in the 21st Century. We were treated like crap and overcharged. I realized all my prior visits were with my family or extended family, all white people. Childhood visits were with a white friend who lives nearby, and her white family. You can see in photos and reviews I have been to this place many times going back to my childhood, but I haven't returned since and I will never go back. I got a good sense of how it feels when "odd" passive aggressive behavior seems to happen around non-white people, and yes it could be honest mistakes (a series of them aimed at my non-white friend) or it could be discriminatory. It could be that one waitress's attitude is irreflective of the establishment but this is what happened at this establishment, and the result is we were treated deplorably and I have no reason to ever return. They owe me an overcharge of $15 plus the unfairly high tip I left that horrible waitress! read more

My husband and I just love heading to the Country Deli for breakfast. We're there at least once, maybe twice a week. If you've never been, it's a cute little country eatery adjacent to an antique shop and feed and seed store, very close to Ridley Creek State Park. The owners and staff are very friendly and we truly look forward to seeing them when we go. Once seated, we love to relax while sipping one of their gourmet flavored coffees. The food is yummy as well! They have quite the selection on their regular menu along with daily specials. They have a huge variety of baked goods including many assorted muffins along with seasonal Irish soda bread that Bryan bakes on site. The name "Deli" it's not totally descriptive of this place. It's a breakfast and lunch restaurant where you can buy some items at the front counter and it does include some deli items like hoagies and salads. But I venture to say that most come here 90% of the times for breakfast and lunch because it's so worthwhile. it's a little cramped inside but the seating is comfortable and the outside although small is heated. If you coming on a weekend or be prepared to see a full parking lot but spots open up frequently. Just be kind and caring towards your fellow human beings while parking. you will get a spot but patience is key. Why? Because this place is great and it's worth the effort. I got the scrapple, egg and cheese on a long roll. I loved it. Scrapple was cubed. Best decision I made in several years was to get a side of hash browns for $4.50. Red potatoes, hand sliced and grilled. I love this place and it's not a cheesesteak so I am going to use this as a learning moment. Love this place! It's pretty much a staple every time we come down to the OBX. Open when you need it, and fast enough to fill you up. This past time we placed an online order for a club sandwich and a philly cheesesteak sandwich, neither of which had been tried before. We arrived to pick up the food and it was nice and hot and ready to be devoured. The club was plenty big with your standing assortment of meats and toppings. Chips weren't needed to be full after this one. The philly was equally packed with meat and cheese, and as a cheese lover, it was almost too much cheese. My only slight complaint is there were too many onions, but those were easily picked off (and can request none to begin with next time). Food for locals and for people who know about this neat little restaurant tucked around the curve and next to an antique shop. If you're anywhere near here, you need to stop by Country Deli. Seating was a little disorganized but it was still good to get a seat during the busy lunch rush. I went right to the specials board and ordered the sliced roast beef sandwich with provolone and horseradish gravy, with the potato salad on the side. It only took a few minutes before it was brought to me - barely enough time to sweeten my iced tea (this ain't the south, y'all) - and it looked great. It tasted even better. The roast beef was tender, the provolone was perfectly melted. It was maybe a little messy but what's five paper napkins between friends? We ordered the sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich on black russian bread. This was a truly phenomenal choice. The sandwich was a delightful blend of complementary flavors. Each bite precipitated an experience of savoury and crispy sausage, gooey white American cheese, and expertly fried eggs. Not over or under done. This blend may seem slightly on the greasy side. It would have been. But caressing this meaty masterpiece of sandwich fillings were two slices of wonderfully firm and grainy bread dotted with golden raisins. What a perfect complement to the meat, cheese, and eggs. The balance of sweet, grainy bread with its greasy and generously savoury interior was orchestrated culinary ecstasy. Went here for lunch a few days ago with my girls... I enjoyed the Pastrami Reuben that I got but it would have been nice if it came with fries rather than chips. We don't go out this way much but when we do we stop here for a bite to eat. My parents, on the other hand, have been regulars for years. Love me some Country Deli. This is a quaint little breakfast\brunch\lunch spot on 352 not far from Ridley Creek State Park. It's pretty small inside so you will have to wait during peak times, but it is worth it! Stop in the antique shop or feed store while you wait! They also offer outdoor seating here during the nice weather. Big plus! They have a more robust menu on the weekends, but plenty of options for your weekday visit as well. I had the short stack of French Toast and bacon, eggs, home fries with Rye toast. The toast comes out buttered so make sure you let them know if that is a problem. My breakfast was not only delicious, but a good price too! Service is very good here. The servers all seem to overlap with different servers taking orders, bringing drinks\food, offering refills...Good teamwork! Today we stopped in to the Country Deli for Sunday brunch. There was a bit of a wait, but we were seated within five minutes. Once we sat, a lovely waitress came and got our drink order,then swiftly got our order, as a large party just sat right when we did. Our food came out piping hot. I don't know how many timed we said " this is really good". I had the Greek omelette,with fresh spinach,tomatoes and feta. My hubby had the Mexican omelette, he said it was really good and the peppers were super spicy. Our home fries were perfect. Our link sausage was also delicious. One of those places you walk in and just feel happier. I felt like I was eating at my grandma's house, in the best way. I had the Nolan Reuben sandwich and it was out of this world, thin-sliced beef and absolutely piping hot. Served with chips and a pickle. This bread is also a must try when you come here, I don't know where they make it but it's unique and quite good. It's a bit rustic and crusty but there's raisins in it that give it an extra sweet kick. I loved it as sandwich bread. It's different and you gotta tip your hat to place that can pull this off.
