For the last 15 years, I've had horrible vision. My prescription was a -8. That's E-I-G-H-T. That's bulletproof glasses and hard contacts from the stone age all through grade school. (I also had braces for 8 years and a chili-bowl hair cut up til the 6th grade. I was also not prom queen, in case any of you were left in suspense). So imagine my anticipation when, at the age of 23, my prescription stabilized and I considered LASIK. I met Dr. Sanders' team at the Diagnostic Eye Center for a consult and I was truly impressed with how thorough their exams were (and how many "Top Doctors in Houston/Texas/the greater universe" plaques there were in his office). The initial consult and pre-op testing took a total of 1.5 hours. Before I knew it, I had my procedure scheduled within the week! The day of the procedure, I was sent into their brand new and very swanky LASIK suite. One valium, and twenty minutes of chill-time with spa music later, they had me lying in front of the latest laser (Dr. Sanders said his upgraded lasers are less than a year old). Each eye took less than a minute. A MINUTE! It takes longer to do the morning pep talk necessary to shove those awful hard contacts into my eyes every morning. The procedure was hardly painful-- there's just moderate pressure when they make the first flap on each eye. And the whole time you're looking into this laser-tunnel-thing (reminiscent of Space Mountain...though that might've been the Valium talking). Before I knew it, somebody was helping me sit back up. And I could see--albeit foggily with all that post-procedure recovery--but I saw the faces around me! And then I cried. Profusely and embarrassingly. Because for the first time in 15 years, I realized I would be able to see the big E on those eyecharts, my alarm clock in the morning, my shampoo bottles in the shower, the tiny text of paperback novels, and FACES without the help of those ugly bulletproof glasses or those painful contacts. This was a dream. Today was my post-op follow up and Dr. Sanders told me that my vision now has already surpassed my vision with glasses/contacts. And I'm told it only gets better from here (with improvement for up to four weeks). Side effects have been minimal--a burning and foreign-body sensation for the first few hours after the procedure, some minor dryness, and red bruising in each eye. All of these symptoms are expected to resolve within a couple of weeks for me. This LASIK procedure was a fantastic, life-changing experience for me. Came in on a Tuesday for my long overdue (2yrs) eye exam. Found out that my eyes are getting worst (guess my age IS catching up). I also scheduled for a free lasik consultation with Dr. Marc Sanders. Been researching online and read lots of good reviews especially on CitySearch, also he received tons of accolades and awards in his field, so why not! After the eye exam (done by another optometrist), Dr. Sanders did the second exam, then we had a Q&A session on lasik procedures. He told me that the lasik will correct my nearsighted but as I grow older, I might need reading glasses... He confirmed that I'm an excellent candidate and, by the way, there's a free spot available for the coming Friday... Its just a spur of the moment and few minutes later, I paid the $500 deposit to secure for the Friday procedure at 9am... They share the laser equipments with Mann Eye Inst. at thier new location in Katy. Thus, I received the latest and greatest lasik technology - the IntraLase with Allegretto Wave. The prep took about an hour, and after 2 valium, I'm ready. There's 2 stages, first machine is the slicer and the second is the correction machine. Pretty much painless experience though i did feel a little pressure on the left eyes during the second procedure and yes, you smell a little burned too... After about 15 minutes, you are out of the room with blurry vision. You get a goodie bag that contained a goggle (to be worn thruout the day of the surgery and then to sleep for the next 7 days), several different eye drops. Due to the valium, you will sleep for the next few hours which is imperative. Once you get up, the eye drops regime will follow for the next few days depending on how dryness of the eyes. I was able to drive myself for the next day 9am follow up and its all good news, got my 20/20 vision and now its only recovery period... Meantime, it is necessary to wear sunglasses and I do feel a little dry and its like wearing an old contact lenses... Overall, it was a worthwhile investment and experience. Edit: apparently, I wrote a book. Hopefully this will be useful or amusing to somebody. Let me start off by saying that it has been a good two months since I had lasik. I wanted to go through my last post-op eye exam before I reviewed this place. I had very, very poor eyesight and have been wearing glasses since I was in the second grade. After being sick and tired of dealing with glasses and contacts all the time, I decided to do some research online, and as somebody else stated, I went through citysearch as well, and had it narrowed it down to four different Eye Centers to do the lasik through, all which offered the free consultation. I decided that I would go to each one and see how much they are, the doctors, and the vibe of the place before I would decide on a place to have it done. This did not happen. First on my list of places was Diagnostic Eye Center, and they were so nice and talked to me in such an understanding and respectful way, they almost immediately gained my trust. The first person I talked to went in there was a man named Marc who did my eye exam, and then Dr. Sanders came by and answered all of my questions (I'm the type of person who writes a list of questions and brings it with me so I don't forget one). I apologized for having so many questions, and they were so understanding and said not to be because "they ARE your eyes, after all". I was so impressed by everything, after watching a short video about things that can go wrong, I had my eyes dilated, and gave my deposit within an hour. I was nervous about the procedure, but with Dr. Sanders giving me his personal cell phone number, and saying to call if I had any more questions, I was a little less nervous. I had gotten my prescription, and was still extremely nervous for the procedure. They test your eyes again and have you sit in a quiet room with massage chairs waiting for the medication to kick in and put drops in your eyes which burn and I could feel the stinging on my face close to the bottom of my nose (which is good because it means my eyes were very numb). The thing that relaxed me was not the pills, the numbness of my eyes, the quietness of the massage chair room, but when I went into the room for the procedure I heard "Do you remember? The 21st night of September?". YES. Earth, Wind and Fire calmed me down. I was a bit alarmed at first that the doctor was crazy or I was super-drugged because it was very loud and it seemed like a party with people poking around my eye. But Dr. Sanders has a very calming way about him and talked to me step by step through everything I would be going through and told me how the bed would move halfway through the procedure and we would be done within twenty minutes. There is a bright, almost blinding light you have to look at, you cannot see for a few seconds which has you almost tearing apart the germ-ridden stuffed animal they give you and there is a God-awful burning smell, but all the while "say that you remember....dancing in September" and I tried to focus more on the music that the smell and someone sprayed some liquid in my eyes and of course, me shaking, from being so nervous...and cold (make sure to wear a hoodie or something, they have to keep the room cold for the machines). They keep telling you "almost done" until the light at the end of the tunnel becomes apparent and the worst is over. Then they examine you again,give you these uber cool goggles to wear while sleeping tell you to go home and rest and to not touch of rub your eyes even though you really, really want to. There's no way you can (or should) drive home after, so there has to be somebody there to take you home. After leaving, get a chick-fil-a cookies and cream milkshake (I felt like I deserved it) and sing "NEVER WAS A CLOUDY DAYYYYY" all while still drugged and sleep for the next day and half. The next day come in and find out your eye sight is 20/15! Yay! Dr. Sanders is the sweetest man and took pictures with me the next day and six weeks later my eye sight is still a 20-15 and Dr. Sanders said that if your eye sight has not regressed within the first six weeks, it should not for the rest of your life. This just blew me away, and after two months I am still surprised when I wake up and try to get my glasses, I see none on my table and realize that I do not need them. I tell anyone who will listen that this is the best money I ever spent and I mean it. Even if you are crazy nervous, I would still recommend going in for a consultation to put you at ease. Also,if your not squirmish, have someone make a movie or take pics for you to see later...its bat-shit crazy. It has been two months since my Lasik procedure. I hard researched thoroughly through options in the Houston area and always went back to looking at Diagnostic Eye Center due to all the 5 star reviews for Dr. Sanders and his team. I called and set up a free Lasik consultation and was on my way. I only went to two wrong buildings near their address (they are located above the center of the parking lot, just take the elevators up) a kind man directed me to their suite. Anyways, the consultation itself is about one hour long and they take multiple measurements and pictures of your eyes. They also dilated my eyes. I sat down in an exam room with Marcus (Lasik adviser, extremely friendly and nice) and Dr. Sanders. Dr. Sanders went over my eye measurements and said I was a great candidate for Lasik. Wohoo! I had been wearing glasses since third grade and an astigmatism in both eyes. Started off with a contact prescription of -7.00/-6.00. My prescription had stayed constant for a few years. (I was 26 during the procedure). Procedure day. They give you a prescription for Valium beforehand. I took one the night before and day of the procedure. They seat you in a dark room in a recliner with a warm blanket. Marcus put multiple numbing eye drops in my eyes and asked if I needed another Valium. I took one more Valium. It helped a lot because yes, lasers in your eyes is terrifying and I was only mildly freaking out in my head. So they take me into the procedure room and Dr. Sanders was great, very comforting and reassuring that everything will be fine. Dr. Sanders puts more eye drops in my eyes after I am laid down underneath the first laser. By this time I can feel the numbness through the top of my cheeks. I wanted them to use as much numbing drops as they could. I do not remember exactly the steps that came next as I am still terrified (lasers in your EYES). I do remember pressure on my eyes and the faint smell of burning. After wards I am taken in the examination room and I could already see 20/20! Just minutes after my procedure. Very impressed. So I am given a bag of various eye drops and some sweet goggles. I kept my eyes closed on the ride home. As I get home (about 45 minutes later) my eyes are stinging really bad. My husband puts all the eye drops in my eyes including the comfort drops and I take a four hour nap. When I wake up my eyes did not sting anymore. Next day followup. I meet with Dr. McMillen. She was very nice and personable. She recently had Lasik done by Dr. Sanders also so knew what I was going through. She checked my eyes and I was seeing 20/15! One month checkup, still seeing 20/15! The first month I did experience some dryness and halos at night. I never had problems with dryness before. After the 1st month I barely use the lubricating eye drops and do not experience much if any dryness (except once in a while when I first wake up). I only needed to use the comfort drops once after the procedure. It took me about a month to get out of the habit of waking up and reaching for my eyeglasses. It feels very liberating not needing to put contacts in in the morning, or bringing glasses and contact solution and cases whenever I travel. Also, it's amazing to be able to see my baby monitor on my nightstand at night without the need of glasses! Into the 2nd month I barely see any halos at night. TL DR: Dr. Sanders and his team are awesome and they are everything they are hyped up to be. I had -7.00/-6.00 vision with astigmatism in both eyes and now I see 20/15! It is worth it! read more

I am not messing around with my eyes. They are my career. If I can't see, then I can't do what I do for a job. But I was getting so frustrated with contacts and just not feeling totally corrected, or allergies, or getting something in my eye, or having a contact rip while on an interview. I can't see my alarm clock at night or at day without my glasses. I started sleeping with my glasses on smashed up on my face. Well, my vision finally started to stabilize in the past 2 years, so I entertained the idea after an ophthalmology resident at UT got a little too giddy when he suggested it to me. Yes, LASIK, but no, not here -- I am going to do my research first. Dr. Sanders and his team are amazing and professional. I thought I'd have to wait forever to get seen on time, but no - this clinic operates smoothly. No back up appointments. I was examined by his co-worker Dr. Lozano, who had lasik done by Dr. Sanders and was seeing patients the next day. Excuse me, what? The team did a thorough workup and analysis of my eyes. I hated having to get dilated, but that was worth it. I also hated rocking my glasses for a week, but also worth it. Dr. Sanders is really well pedigreed, involved in academics, and teaches at Baylor. He's on top of his evolving field and he's at the top of his field. I did my research, even on pubmed. The team knows this procedure and knows it well, so much so they have their care package down pat (steroid eye drops, soothing eyedrops, goggles for sleeping) and prescriptions for valium and an antibiotic eyedrop. I was at first -- pfft I don't need the Valium. And then I was like, you know what, I better do it since I'll be having lasers coming at my eyes, I am pretty sure I'll be flipping out. I am about 6-8 weeks post op and I am corrected to 20/20. I had initial supervision which only sadly lasted for a few days. I've had no pain, no constant watering of my eyes, and the glare I saw at night is now dissipated. And I wake up, not hunting for my glasses, or struggling to put my contacts in! It's fantastic! Would I do it again? Yes. Absolutely. But only with Dr. Sanders. A fantastic investment. Only regret is I didn't do it sooner. read more

I should probably hold off on this review until my last follow up visit, but I just cannot help but continue adding on to the flurry of amazing reviews. During my first free consultation, I was helped by Christine and Dr. McMillen. They were both super friendly and answered all the questions I had....and I had several! During my talk with Dr. McMillen, I had a slightly disappointing moment when I learned that I didn't qualify for the traditional LASIK procedure due to my thin cornea. However, I did qualify for PRK which goes by a multitude of different names you may hear which include LASEK. After taking a few weeks to really decide if I wanted to go through with the procedure and several more chats with the friendly staff (big shout out to Marcus who had to endure phone call after phone call with me setting up appointments) and asking many, many, more questions, I decided I was finally ready. To give you some background info, my vision was upwards of -8 and -9. I had high hopes of finally being able to see without glasses or contacts after living with them for a good 20 years. On the day of the procedure, and after mentally preparing myself by listening to "I Can See Clearly Now" by Jimmy Cliff in the car, I arrived at the office. I took a valium prior to the treatment and then was taken to the exam room less than 20 minutes after I arrived. I should've have mentioned earlier that the doctors and staff here truly respect wait time and I never once felt that agitation I have at other doctor's offices after waiting FOREVER. With sweaty palms, I nervously chatted with Dr. Sanders. At this point, this was my first time meeting him. He was friendly as could be, answered all of my remaining questions, and was so reassuring. The procedure itself, if you can believe it, was completely painless. I was expecting pressure, and set myself up to feel uncomfortable at the very least, but that valium must have really done it's job! Before I knew it, I was being sat up and with slightly blurred vision, saw my husband waving at me. I wanted to immediately burst into tears hysterically, but was afraid my eyeballs would pop out. I could see! In all honesty, the healing process wasn't quite as great for me as it is different for everyone. The LASIK supposedly has a faster healing process, but there are apparently several benefits and risks associated with each procedure. The day after, I tried to get as much rest as possible, but noticed my eye was unusually swollen. With all the medications and the doctor's office being very transparent about the symptoms one might expect, I did not recall swelling as someting that may be an issue. The day after, the swelling continued and I decided to call Dr. Sanders. This is where the 5 stars becomes more than necessary. Dr. Sanders offered to meet up with me on a Sunday night just to pacify my fears about my eye. Though I obviously did not want to bother the guy, I had major fears about the contact placed in my eye had moved and was causing the swelling. Him offering this was just going above and beyond and there is nothing that I needed more at that moment. When I met with him, he numbed my eyes and everything seemed to check out. My body was just reacting to the procedure and medication by swelling. Unfortunately even after meeting with the doctor, my body didn't recover super fast, but just to reiterate, everyone heals differently. I had to miss two days of work as I didn't feel comfortable driving, but after a good week, my swelling was completely gone and the vision wasn't nearly as blurry as it had been during the week. I had a follow up visit a week later with Dr. Sanders and he took the contacts out of my eyes and gave me new instructions regarding my prescriptions and eye drops. He is super efficient and reassuring. In a nutshell, this place is amazing, well worth the money, has AMAZING staff members and their personal touch and superb service is top notch. :) read more

I called asking if this eye center accepted a specific eye Insurance plan and was told yes. Afterwards they asked me to provide my member ID (which was unusual because most optometrist places call the insurance company to get that information) so I had to call my eye Insurance company to get that information myself. After securing the information regarding my member ID, I called back and provided the information. About 20 minutes later, they called asking me to provide information regarding my insurance, despite the fact that I just did a while ago. It was annoying to have to provide information a second time, but I complied nonetheless. 5 minutes later, I received another call from them saying that they did not, in fact, accept my eye Insurance plan - even though I was told that they did accept my insurance plan when I called the first time! In the end, they wasted my time with their lack of team work regarding communication and their lack of knowledge! read more

It has now been 2 weeks since I had Lasik done from Diagnostic Eye Center. What else can I add which the other reviews have not covered? I agree that the overall experience from start to finish was outstanding. Each and every member of the staff was polite, accommodating and professional. Kudo's to Elizabeth who did a fantastic job prepping the consultation with the eye tests etc and also to Peter who was friendly to deal with. This was very much appreciated on the day of surgery as you do want to feel you are in good hands. Price-wise I got a fabulous deal based on a referral but even at full price its probably worth every penny. The one thing I noticed after surgery is a certain halo effect around bright lights at night especially car headlights. I am told this is due to dry eyes and will get better with time. To summarize I would highly recommend this Houston Lasik office!!! read more

HAPPY, my summarized exerpience. I went to 3 other places for consultations before deciding on Diagnostic Eye Center. I was intrigued when I saw their latest Groupon and remembered a friend that jumped on the last one. Thye highly recommended them and actually told me of 5 other friends who went through them after they did through referrals. After checking them out at the Edloe office, I decided to do my procedure with them. Peter below has a great description of an experience there so I'll hit on some other things I noticed. After looking at Mann Eye and LasikPlus, which have offices that are super clean and modern looking, DEC was a bit of an eye sore because the decor was outdated and run down looking. The instruments were up to date though so I didn't mind as much and especially when I found out they do their procedures at a Mann Eye facility. So don't be thrown off by this. Also, the other locations were very prompt on their appointment times for the consultations. I've waited on avg 15 mins here for appointments and check ups although the appointment of the procedure was exactly on time. Another improvement possibility. Their staff is very professional and make you feel very comfortable. Dr. Sanders did my procedure and was very descriptive of the procedure going into technical details of why it was safe for me and answered all questions. I was in and out of the procedure in 30 mins. It includes drops and googles unlike some other places which will make you buy these yourself. The only extra thing I had to pay for was for the Vicodin, which my insurance covered mostly and only cost me $.40. There is a 2 year warranty for touch ups as well. Overall, you could tell they knew what they were doing and have done it many times before. I really liked how they took the time to explain things and felt like they cared. I would definitely recommend them to anyone wanting LASIK or any other eye work. Check on referals cause I got my procedure done for $2800 cause I referred my other friends that got it done before me. Definitely a HAPPY experience. read more

Absolutely amazing eye doctor! I worked with Dr. Lozano and Dr. Salem to discuss PRK as an option for me. Dr. Salem took time to meet with me one-on-one to discuss his procedure, recovery time, etc. Dr. Lozano made me feel like she had all the time to give and answer any questions I had. I will be visiting one more Doctor in Houston before making my final decision for the surgery but Diagnostic Eye Center is definitely number one on my list. I went in to get a yearly exam and prescription of glasses/contact. My appointment was at 10:30, I didn't get seen until 11:42. The visit itself took about 20 minute total-with probably just 5 minutes of face to face time with the optometrist. When I showed concern about the wait time the staff didn't seem particular apologetic/ sincere about the matter. The optometrist also had a very uncaring attitude throughout the visit. He wasn't rude, but his mannerism made me feel like he didnt really like his job. That, or he just didn't like me because he thinks my complaint about the wait time is unreasonable. I had to get back to work!! I came to this place because of recommendations from a friend who had LAsIK here, and also because its close to where I live. My friend had a much better experience with this practice; perhaps because she bought the practice more revenue bc of the LASIK procedure. Honestly, I would not recommend this place unless its convenient. I think next year I will make the drive to my previous ophthalmologist in sugar land instead. The optometrist branded himself and the practice as THE cataract/LASIk specialist in Houston. Being in the medical field myself, I know that's not true. Only giving three stars. I got the procedure done. It was better than 20/20 vision. It's been 4 years now. After the procedure was complete, Dr. sanders said if my vision changed even slightly with in the 2 years he would correct vision at no cost to me. I soon got pregnant a month later. Typically a person's vision decreases after pregnancy but mine didn't so I didn't have to have it redone. It was nice to have the option though. read more

First off, I had been contemplating LASIK for about 2 years. What took me so long? I have no clue. I just had my LASIK procedure this past Friday on 1/22/2016. During my "shopping" around phase for various LASIK doctors, I put Diagnostic Eye Center on my list primarily based on their reviews. I was wondering and extremely curious why this place had such high ratings. Since my HSA was covering my procedure, I wasn't really worried about the cost and I wanted to go to the best Doctor. I didn't want to risk any chance going to the centers that run those insanely cheap promotions as I heard sketchy reviews. I narrowed my list down to two LASIK centers with the other one being a very well known place. Both of these places uses the latest laser technology. I got my consultation done at the other center first and had my consultation done at Diagnostic the day after. This allowed me to compare the two places side by side and after my consultation here, my mind was made up. Why did I choose this place? Well basically what everyone else is saying. This place is extremely professional and accommodating. They make you feel like an actual person rather than another file and money making opportunity. You can feel that they care a lot about their patients. Also, I was very impressed by all of the Doctors credentials and felt safe in Dr. Sanders care. Dr. Lozano was the one who did my consult and she had a great demeanor and was very thorough. The rest of the staff members were also great. This place runs on time and not one of those offices where if you make an appointment, you are seen way after. Before the procedure, I was at a -2.75 and the morning after the LASIK procedure, I went in for my day after post-op and I was seeing 20/15! I had my LASIK procedure just over a month ago and am very pleased with the results. The procedure itself was not nearly as scary as I expected - no pain, just moderate discomfort from the suction ring and post-op till I could get home and fall asleep. Your eyes will probably feel like something threw sand in your face and not stop watering for a few hours, but once you fall asleep, life is good. Waking up about 6 hours later, I could see sharply behind a bit of fog, but the fog was gone by the next morning. My eyes were a -4.25 and post-surgery I am now seeing 20/15. Dr. Sanders is great and I highly recommend Diagnostic Eye Center if you are considering LASIK. read more

The Diagnostic Eye Center team is awesome. I recently relied on them to help me with an eye injury, and I can't say enough positive things about their staff. When I sustained the injury, some of the staff waited AFTER HOURS for me to arrive and help me. This saved what would have been an absolutely miserable night. I see Dr. Welton and really enjoy this place. They are always on-schedule as well as friendly. Dr. Welton is really helpful and shared more information about my eyes than previous eye docs who I've visited. The only complaint is that the selection of frames is a bit more limited compared to some of the chain stores that you may be used to. Having said this, I've always been able to find some frames that met my criteria. The person who works the frame-counter was far more helpful than at other stores I've visited. Not only did he make adjustments for the pair I just purchased, but for made adjustments & provided (free) new nose-pads for 2 pairs of glasses that I didn't even purchase there. read more

I've worn corrective lenses for nearsightedness since I was a kid...we'll say for the last 20+ years...I remember the first time I put on glasses at age 8...I never really noticed that trees had individual leaves...I digress. Up until last Friday morning, I couldn't read the E at the top of the chart (I had 20/400 vision, so sad). I had my Lasik procedure last Friday (8.17.12) and today I can see better than 20/20. I can see so much clearer than I ever did with glasses or contacts (which sounds like a commercial, but it's legit) - this was by far THE best gift I've ever given myself. I honestly didn't know I could ever see like this...I'm driving everyone nuts reading road signs half a mile away...because I can and it's AWESOME. I will admit, I was terrified to have it done. I am self-admittedly a huge wimp. This procedure was completely painless - all you feel is pressure on your eye but it's not bad at all. My advice: let the Valium do it's job. I have been wearing glasses and contacts since I was 5 years old. I had a strong astigmatism and have always had a horrible time getting the perfect fit for contacts. I decided the best gift I could get for my 29+1 birthday would be LASIK. ! did quite a bit of research and met with three different places. As soon as i met Dr. Sanders I instantly felt comfortable. The fact that he took the time to take part in the consultation was a huge plus. The other offices had a "Lasik consultation advisor" whom I met with. I'm sorry but i'm not letting you touch my eyeballs unless I meet you first! I had a million questions.... the usual like "Could I go blind" and "What is the recovery period" etc.... I also had the usual girly questions like "When can i put makeup back on" and "What about my eyelash extensions" or "When can I spray tan again". I know I know. Don't judge! Dr. Sanders answered every one and put me right at ease. The day of the procedue I was led into a relaxing room and prepped for surgery. I popped a valium and about 20min later was ready for LASIK! The procedure itself took less than 10minutes and was totally painless. Dr. Sanders explained everything as he was doing it. He kept asking if i was ok. I was a little in shock and wasn't quite sure what the heck was going on. i could hear Madonna and Katy Perry in the background while I was staring at these flashing lights. Maybe I am imagining that I heard Madonna and Katy Perry but either way i have good memories of the overall procedure. When i stood up it was a little blurry and i was definitely out of it but I could see! i was escorted into the waiting room where my husband was. it turns out he watched the whole thing. As a guy he thought it was the coolest thing ever. The experience was seriously the easiest and best thing I have done. Diagnostic Eye Center lived up to all their amazing reviews! Been going to Diagnostic Eye for a long time! My father was an opthamologists in Chicago so I have a high bar! This team does a great and thorough exam. Their equipment seems to be the most updated technology available.The staff is efficient and conscientious about their work, making sure I understand the procedures. I never feel rushed but at the same time, they seem to not waste my time. Dr. Sanders and Dr. Welton have great medical "bedside" manners and you always feel calm with their exams and procedures. I am simply stunned at the quality, professionalism, patience, ease and compassion I encountered at Diagnostic Eye Center. The location was simple to find. There was plenty of parking and they made it simple to easy with my insurance plan. The office is calm, bright and efficient. My eye exam was thorough and the equipment impressive. I haven't had an eye exam in over 20 years and the staff went above and beyond to reassure, explain and encourage me. Dr. Lozano is simply amazing. She was clear, smart, professional and had several options for correcting my (severe) astigmatism. She specially ordered contacts for fitting. I am 47 and have never worn contacts. I was intimidated by the insertion/removal procedure, but took home my trial pair. That Friday night, I had an issue with one of the lenses. I called for instructions and Dr. Lozano returned my call - personally, on a Friday night - and was patient, reassuring, calm and encouraging. She talked me through the problem and has been there every step of the way - from special order lenses to torn trial lenses - with patience and confidence. I began seeing Dr. Welton when I was only 6 years old, and have gone through glasses and different types of contacts over the years, and I have always had such a great experience. Now, after 16 years of care at Diagnostic Eye Center, I got Lasik eye surgery just a week ago with Dr. Sanders. The entire experience was incredible, and Dr. Sanders talked me through each step and the after-care. It was a very fast and completely painless procedure, and I had PERFECT vision the very next day! So they tried to rip me off by saying I was new to contacts and that I had to pay the new wearer fee of contacts that cost $200, even after I told them that I've worn contacts for 12 years. This is on top of them maxing out my insurance coverage for the visit and charging me out of pocket on top of this. Then 2 months later, they once again tried to over charge me for the visit as a whole that said I still owed them $72.50 from my initial visit. Overall this place is a joke and they WILL DO EVERYTHING they can to rip you off. STAY AWAY!!! read more

I just had my LASIK done by Dr. Salem and I couldn't be happier with the result. From start (initial evaluation by Dr. Welton) to finish (post-op care by Dr. Salem), the process was seamless. I made the appointment, decided to move forward with the procedure and very satisfied with the results. I am now seeing 20/15. Dr Sanders is amazing. Dr Lozano is such a sweetheart. It's 3 months now after my LASIK operation, and everything has been great! So I stayed out of wearing contacts about two weeks before the procedure. Though they required a week of no contacts, I wanted to do whatever I could to help my outcome and help my eyes. Hey, I only get one set of eyes and I didn't want to come out blind! The day of the operation was really easy. I wasn't too anxious about it, and am grateful everything went smoothly. For the procedure, you lay down, they cover one eye and do their thing on the other eye, then switch eyes. I was just concentrating on staying as still as possible. There is some pressure on the eye when they're doing the actual procedure but absolutely no pain. Afterwards, they walk you out to the examination room and test out your improved vision. They put in more eyedrops and let you relax for a bit before going home! Easy Breezy. It was painfully bright outside, even with the protective goggles they gave me, even though I kept my eyes closed the whole ride home. My eyes were burning/stinging and tearing for about 4 hours afterwards, but I took a nap on and off throughout. After that, the burning was gone, the tearing stopped, and I could see pretty clearly. I was up and about! My eyes are supposedly dry but not in an annoying way. I can't actually tell that they're dry, but that's what the doctor said so I just use those single-use eyedrops from Costco. (a box of 100 for $20). If you don't moisturize the eyeballs, he said they get scratched up on the surface. I guess like dry flaky skin! Don't want that. tl;dr : Easy procedure, minimal side effects, great team of doctors that are highly skilled and caring. Post-op care has been attentive as well. So grateful to Dr. Sanders for my eyesight! read more

My procedure was set right before Thanksgiving in 2013. I wanted to wait until after my final post-op appointment (and for some time to pass) to write my review about my LASIK experience. My vision: Glasses since 4th grade. Stable prescription: -4.75/-4.5 Could not read the Big E on the vision chart. Age during procedure: 23 Consultation: After being nervous and hesitant to make my appointment, I called Diagnostic Eye Center. They had appointments available very quickly, so I did enjoy not having to wait too long to get in there (more time to talk myself out of it, didn't need that at all). I arrived at the location and filled out some general health/eye care paperwork. I then met with one of the assistants who performed the eye exams to check if I was a candidate. I was given a tour of the "LASIK suite" which looked really nice. Also, you can see the machines through a window (just like your friends/family will get to see during your procedure). I was told everything looked great so far. I was given the option to dilate my eye the same day to be fully completed with the consultation and all I'd need to do is book the appointment or I could come back. I opted to go ahead and have my eyes dilated and further examined (because well, who has THAT much doctor time available to get away from work). While the drops did their magic, I was sat in a room to go over a LASIK general information video. The entire time I was encouraged to visit other LASIK facilities to make sure I was comfortable with the place I chose. Once the dilation was completed, the same tests were performed to ensure accuracy. Then the moment of truth, I was told I was an excellent candidate for LASIK. Yay! It would have been hurtful to be told no at this point. We discussed pricing. I was given a discount for paying in full (not opting to do a payment plan that they offer.) A part I knew I'd be reminded of: They had me read the chart (knowing I couldn't). They painted a very solid Before case. Procedure day: My procedure was scheduled for 5pm. This was perfect because it allowed me to complete most of a work day. Yeah, I pretty much spent the entire day nervous as can be (seems like I needed to take that Valium right when I woke up in the morning). While I was nervous, there was the part of me that was absolutely TIRED of wearing glasses. I got contacts in 7th grade and avoided glasses like the plague ever since. Since I wore soft lenses, it was recommended I didn't wear them at all for the entire week before the procedure (blegh.) I took the Valium at the recommended time. When I arrived, they did a quick eye check and then they guided me down to the LASIK suite. They asked if I could feel my Valium. To be honest, I really didn't feel it too much and probably should have accepted their offer for a little more. I was a little panicked and nervous, but my desire to get it done was stronger. They dropped several numbing drops into my eyes and had me sit with my eyes closed for awhile. The room was very cold. Then it was my time. They took me to the room and covered me in a nice warm blanket. More eye drops. Dr. Sanders does have the great bed side manner that other reviewers mention. The part of the procedure where they cut the flaps is definitely the most uncomfortable. The feeling of having something pushing something down against the eye. Luckily, it literally takes seconds. The procedure itself was done in what felt like 6 minutes. They sat me up and I could see fuzzy people. The walked me over to an examination area to check my eyes. Everything looks good, except there was a piece of lint in my incision area. Dr. Sanders said it might not be bothersome, but he wanted to get it out. Back to the room I went. They flushed water into my eye and removed the lint piece with a small needle-like tool (I didn't know this at the time, thankfully). I was given a goodie bag of drops, some sweet eye drops, and instruction to NOT rub the eyes and I was on the way. My boyfriend got to watch the entire procedure from outside the window and there was a monitor showing my eye. An assistant explained every step of the procedure as it was happening. That night: I kept my eyes closed as instructed. Maybe some peeking to help guide myself while walking inside. Then it began. My eyes stung so bad. I tried to fight it for a little bit, then I realized I couldn't sleep with that pain. I used the comfort drops provided and was better. This happened several time throughout the night. Next morning: I could read the alarm clock! Follow-up went well. I drove myself. 20/20 vision. My vision fluctuated a lot the first few days. I had to take several drops throughout the first 5 days. The vision stabilized but at night I had issue with halos for several weeks. I still have moderate halos (2 months out) but it has improved greatly. I read 20/15, sure beats not reading that big E.
