As a dentist myself, I chose Dr. Chae to do my dental work because i've been following him for years on Instagram and have seen that he does exceptional dental work and diagnosing. Couldn't be happier. I had to have a couple fillings redone that that were acceptable, but not the best. He took pictures along the way to show me the before and afters and I can attest that he takes pride in his work. He's a perfectionist, which means he may diagnose a few more fillings than your average dentist, but as a dentist myself, I would agree that all the fillings diagnose were valid and needed to be done (even if it was a small problem) and the result was something much better after. FINALLY A GOOD DENTIST!! I have gone to the dentist every six months my whole life. I recently switched dentists a few weeks ago to Dr. Chae at the DBDG and it changed my oral health. I found out that I had some cavities that have been growing for YEARS. These deep cavities have been ignored for years due to their position which Dr. Chae said was challenging (top and bottom molars in the very back). These have been growing since I was in High School, and have been overlooked. I have always gotten X-rays and was even given a deep cleaning 2 years ago. There is no way the dentist didn't see these cavities. That why I say, THANK GOD FOR Dr. Chae! He shows you WITH PICTURES what is going on in your mouth. When he does the work for you he takes progress pictures and insures you that no cavities are left behind. His work is also close to art. Due to the nature of my deep cavities Dr. Chae had to essentially rebuild my tooth and he did a wonderful job. I also felt like he was being honest with me and truly cared about my oral health. In addition, I would like to add that his staff is incredibly kind. The 3 receptionists are polite and professional. The hygienists and assistants I have come into contact with are also very kind and helpful when answering questions. Lastly, I would like to say THIS GUY IS THE REAL DEAL. He has been recently published in Dental magazines MULTIPLE TIMES and he works with the USC dental program. He is a great dentist and I highly recommend him. Dr. Chae has helped me with my consistent two fillings per visit (I grind my teeth at night sometimes, and have a terrible boba habit) and his pictures always allow me to exactly understand what the problem with my teeth is. I can't really speak for his crown work, (which is what most people are complaining about) but my overall experience has been solid. I came here because my insurance changed . I am up to date with dentist. I get x Ray and 2 teeth cleaning every year. When I came here, I did an x Ray, the dentist told me I had 10 cavities. Efficient dentist and assistants, thoughtful staff, and excellent technology! 10/10 I just finished my fifth trip to Dr. Chae, and I'm surprised I haven't reviewed yet. I was a kid who always feared dentist visits for the pain. I totally wish I had come here as a kid - my teeth might have been spared some horrors. My friend suggested this place when I had a weekend tooth emergency (the crown broke off!) This office scheduled me for the next day (a Saturday - so convenient!) and fixed the tooth so that it was not only beautiful, but healthy and clean inside the crown (because it wasn't..ick). And unlike other dental visits before, my teeth and gums don't hurt for days after. Having found such a good dentistry, I've been having all my dental issues taken care of this year. They are decent with regular cleaning but Dr. Chae definitely pressured me into replacing a crown that there was nothing wrong with to begin with, something that previous reviewers have experienced. I read the reviews prior to coming in and thought about checking it out since a filling fell out a few weeks prior. So far got a deep cleaning and repaired what could've been a root canal according to the dentist. I like that the main guy is very observant and a perfectionist when it comes to his work. I had no dental insurance so the price quoted was high, especially the $65 office visit regardless of the service or consultation you get. A bit pricey to me. I've always complained about discomfort and pain in my back teeth and to 3 different dentists before I came to this office. They never found anything because as dr chae said, they were very hard to detect cavities as they were in between 2 walls. He caught them by eye as they also were not showing in x rays. This place may be okay to fix cavities and such but DO NOT RECOMMEND getting crowns done here. I was talked into changing my perfectly fine crown for over 5 years to a "new" one which was made not the right size to begin with, let alone the pain which I was taking pain killers for over a week, i had to. drive back and forth for "adjustments" for it to finally be the "right size. Only after 2 months, it fell off when I was flossing and when I came for my visit, his justification and question for me was if i have eaten "sticky candy"?! regardless of what I have eaten this question was inappropriate and what happened was unacceptable.Dr. Chae is a nice man and an okay dentist to fix cavities, but when it comes to crowns he seems absolutely incompetent. i have been with them for over 4 years but decided this time that I AM NOT COMING BACK AGAIN! read more

I went to Dr. Chae for a second opinion after a different dentist told me that i had a cracked tooth and needed a crown for $900 after insurance. Dr. Chae explained that it was not a crack, but rather just a groove in tooth and that crown was not necessary. He is very thorough about explaining the details about your teeth and shows detailed pictures of them. He does not push you into getting treatments done but rather explains the details, makes recommendations, and leaves the decisions upto you. Dr. Chae has been my dentist for around 6 years now. I switched from a family dentist whose work or lack thereof had left me quite scared of dentist visits. During my first visit, Dr. Chae thoroughly checked my teeth and asked me background questions. He took photos while identifying cavities and concerns. After the exam, he laid out a plan for fixing the problems. He was and still is very considerate toward me and my insurance situation. His assistants were and are also very kind and professional. I also really appreciate the demeanor and guidance of the dental hygienist. It took 2 years, a few oral surgeries and a night guard to fix my teeth, but through the process, my faith was restored in dentists. The dentist, assistants, and staff all encourage me to contact the office if there is discomfort or pain, but after coming to this practice, that has not really been needed. Although there's music playing in the background, Dr. Chae always tries to make small talk and creates a friendly, relaxing atmosphere. He remembered my background and concerns really early on during my first few visits. He always makes sure to take photos and thoroughly explain what is going on with my teeth and gums. I believe he is a teaching or mentor dentist as well. I appreciate his openness and honest evaluation. His assistants are also amazing. They work well together, creating a collaborative learning atmosphere instead of one filled with orders and tension. I think his assistants have been the same since 6 years ago. ORIGINAL REVIEW - 2013 I went through several dentists and had mixed experiences (incompetent to too expensive to being over-billed to just okay), before being referred to Dr. Chae. My family travels from South Pasadena/San Marino area to come see him in Diamond Bar. We've been doing this for years. We take my little kids, my parents and have referred him to anyone that needs a dentist. All of us travel some distance to go see him. DR. CHAE He is a professional that seems to really love what he does. He goes out of his way to explain (and show you pictures) of what is being done. Not sure if you will understand, but he has "soft" hands. He is very honest. My wife has not gotten a cavity since going to him. She used to get a couple each year, usually next to the areas where she gets a filling, but not with Dr. Chae. OFFICE/EQUIPMENT He has a very modern clean office with the latest dental equipment. They have a flat screen TV in the waiting area where they can play DVDs for the kids, Krieg (sp?) coffee machine, awesome fish tank, marble everywhere, comfy chairs in the waiting area, film-less x-ray machines, a hand sized camera (to give him a better view of your teeth), and a computer system that is integrated (brings up all your x-rays, previous work and teeth pictures instantaneously). His office is quite a drive from where I live and work, but well worth the visit. The handful of friends I have referred feel the same way, as they continue to make drive to see him. I had a wonderful experience at Dr. Chae's office. The office staff is warm and friendly, and Jun goes the extra mile to make sure that the billing and insurance process is as smooth as possible. While it is true that Dr. Chae is perhaps more aggressive than other dentists in terms of recommending dental work, I do believe that he is genuine in his desire to save you from more invasive procedures in the future. He has a "tooth-camera" as I call it that I had never before seen in a dentist's office. He takes countless close-up photos of your teeth and shows you cavities and other dental findings, making sure you understand why any recommended procedures are necessary. In my case he found multiple early cavities that had been missed by my previous dentist who didn't utilize this technology. His office was careful to accomodate my schedule when making follow up appointments. During the actual procedure, Dr. Chae is gentle and thorough. I couldn't even feel him inject the numbing medication, and during the procedure I was so comfortable while he was drilling that I actually fell asleep a few times. Beyond Satisfied! I don't even know how to express how satisfied and relieved that I found DBDG! I was a loyal patient at another dental office, for 7+ years, and not to throw anyone under the bus, but it was just ok. I stayed because, it was convenient, I knew everyone, and honestly, thought they had my best interest at hand. I am very happy to get to know Dr.Chae. I had a pain in my tooth and went to my previous dentist. He couldn't figure out which tooth is a problem with x ray. He could only suspect. Also he said I need a crown or implant. I couldn't do anything because he was not sure about the problem. I wanted to get a 2nd opinion. Dr.Chae used a camera to find the problem. And HE DID! He found the cavity which my previous dentist couldn't find. And he fixed it with just filling not a crown. He wanted to postpone crown if possible. I am so happy for the result. Also he is so kind.
