I'm sorry to have to write this but I went shopping for a vintage Rolex while visiting New York and called this place about a specific watch listed on their website, to ask if it was in stock. The man said yes and to come on in. I went the next day. You guessed it...I got there, they made me wait a few minutes while they sat around doing nothing and then claimed the watch had been sold last week. Buying an engagement ring is a big decision so when I finally made the call to take the plunge I tried to find something that was in my budget and something the girlfriend liked. My first attempt-one made online was terribly inadequate, so much so that she accompanied me to some physical locations to make sure she knew what suited her tastes. Diamond Source was one of the first places I went to and honestly, I should have stopped there. Carlos, was laid back, informative and even took me outside to see how a stone looked in a particular setting! So, that should be surprising for a couple reasons. 1) They have stones on hand. I didn't think that wouldn't be the norm but a lot of other places just have a sheet of paper that says it's a diamond. 2) He walked outside with a stranger just to see how it would look in real conditions. For that was mind boggling-and I have to admit, a certain part of me wanted to snatch the whole thing from his hand and run away while laughing maniacally. Fortunately, I didn't, but after having visited some other shops all over I came back. The atmosphere at some of the other places were so high pressure I was pretty certain that they made their own diamonds by laying out a piece of coal and just letting nature do its course. I was just excited to get my Fianceè a beautiful token of my love for her. Well. First of all - Carlos sold me an SI2 that looked beautiful in the store. The way it hit the lights and such. You couldn't see a single inclusion. Literally not one. I thought I had a GREAT DEAL! Then after a few weeks, you could see HUGE BLACK spots in the diamond. HE SAID IT WAS JUST DIRTY (what am I stupid?) I had to take the ring back 3 times to have it properly sized. Every time he told me it would be sized correctly. Anddd it would be incorrect again and again. MASTER CON MAN. I swear he must have switched out the center stone one of those times. If that wasn't enough opportunity. How about the two times diamonds fell out of the band? On their own! Each time he explained that it was normal to happen! (His words not mine) So I took it to GIA and has a gemologist look at it. She confirmed the poor quality craftsmanship -And that it was poorly set in the setting/band. (Their were huge gaps that shouldn't have been there). Extremely poor customer service, I would not recommend purchasing anything from Diamond Source. Diamond Source was recommended by a friend so I thought I was in good hands. I experienced two issues: ONE: I was initially quoted a price for a 4mm platinum band. The price was increased twice on subsequent visits. TWO: The staff sized our rings and assured we would be satisfied. When I received the bands through the mail, mine was too large, it easily slipped off my finger. When I returned to ask for it to be resized I was told I must pay $20. Having spent a considerable amount for my initial purchase, I believe they should be focused on making certain my ring was delivered correctly. THEIR EXCUSE: I was told that they had to pay the jeweler (which is their own Diamond Source factory). I was also told that many people return for re-sizing due to climate change and weight gain I however had just purchased this ring, sized by Diamond Source staff, and clearly it was too large to stay on my finger (the re-sixing was a full half size less). I could not be more dissatisfied with the service I received. Scam merchant. They lied to me about return policy. Said it was "30 Day Money Back Guarantee" then switched it later by pointing out they had fine print that said returns only if appraised value is less. They even have a sign that says "30 Day Money Back Guarantee" and then in tiny tiny font underneath is the appraised value blurb. They know no one would buy from them if their return policy is only based on appraised value. So they misrepresent their return policy up front blatantly. Mind you they can reject the appraised value or claim to not agree so really they have no return policy. Sellers like these need to be kicked out by the rest of the honest Diamond district dealers. My experience with this merchant could not have been worse only because they never placed my order so I never received the watch I had planned on purchasing from this establishment. I like to get everything in writing so I emailed Diamond Source requesting a quote on a Rolex watch and they emailed me back the quote rather fast, mind you this quote was over 500.00 more than I had been verbally quoted from an associate at this store (this is why everything must be in writing) only three weeks prior to my requesting the quote in writing. Less than two business days later I placed an email order for the Rolex watch stating exactly what I wanted, the billing information, credit card information, shipping information, etc. My order email could not have been more detailed and spelled out. I waited (2) business days and I did not get an email reply back from Diamond Source acknowledging that they had received the email order. Mind you, Diamond Source had received the 4 or so emails I had sent them when we were emailing back and forth about the quote, ironic the only email they did not receive was the "order email". So the "order email" did not go to spam. I have a feeling they just did not want to honor the last quote they had given me on the watch as why else would a business turn down business? Honestly, engagement ring shopping in the diamond district is stressful. Many of the people working there put a lot of pressure on you to make a sale. Stay away from these scammers!! They pretend to be nice and interested in you and your potential purchase until they take your money and then you realize they sold you something faulty and broken!! I learned the hard way of buying a Rolex watch in the gray market in the diamond district with these shady Russians Igor and Vlad the owners of the store. In the effort to save a few bucks, I ended up with a big headache instead. After I purchased my Presidential Rolex from them for a too good to be true price of 10K, I realized half way down the block that there was a scratch on the sapphire crystal. Then at Cartier I saw that the hands were rusted. They have the worst lighting in the store front that I was unable to detect these defects until I gave them my money. They took the watch back and replaced the parts. But the after 24 hrs the automatic movement would not work anymore and the watch was dead. I called them to tell them that they sold me a broken watch. Their response was that it was just dirty inside and to bring the watch back in. I will never go back to those goons again or use their 2 year warranty that came with my watch. I was scared that it might be a Frankenwatch with not all Rolex parts, so I decided to take it to Underwoods Jewelers here in Florida which is an authorized Rolex dealer to get a full overhaul on the watch for another $500 for peace of mind. So my good deal didn't turn out so great in the end. But it sure was a learning lesson for me. Stay away from the Diamond District and Diamond Source Inc in NYC especially. Go to reputable jewelers like Cartier, Tiffany, Bulgari to spend your hard earned money. It's not worth the headache of trying to save money and to cut corners. In the end you lose and get shoddy customer service. UPDATE: I got my watch back from Underwoods last Friday and they informed me that the sapphire crystal that was on my watch was not authentic Rolex and that it could not pass the water resistant pressurized test. I was charged another $200 for the Rolex sapphire crystal. But in the end all turned out well. The authorized Rolex dealer did a full overhaul on the watch and it now comes with a 2 year warranty and polished the watch to make it look brand new!! The watch looks awesome now!! Not dull and dingey like when I got it from Diamond Source. In the end all turned out well, but I closely avoided a disaster with these goons and could have lost a lot of money. Stay away from Diamond Source Inc. is my advice and go to a reputable jewelers. These jokers will just steal your money and leave you with shoddy customer service and a useless warranty.
