Don't judge a book by its cover. I'm not usually one to eat at restaurants attached to gas stations but I'm so glad I gave Diane's a try! Fantastic diner food! I loved the cheeseburger and fries. The fries are perfectly crispy and seasoned with salt and pepper. The burger buns definitely taste homemade (not sure if they are) and are so soft. The service was good. Not overly friendly but definitely efficient. I would definitely eat here again! The only thing they're missing to go with the classic burger and fries are milkshakes! read more

The burger's not all bad. The bun and the veggies just great. But the meat patty. It's plenty big. I ordered a double meat. It resembled rubber, both patties. And like they rinsed all the flavor off with hot water. The tea, fries and potato salad were well above par. But i don't see how they sell a repeat burger. BTW the chocolate chunk cookie looked great but need to cook another 7-8 minutes. read more

This diner has a truck stop feel to it without the waitress. I find that disappointing. You place your order at the counter, then someone will bring it to you but it still seems to be missing that personal touch. It certainly has the look of a classic diner, with interesting decor. The food is mostly fried fare and burgers. I had the chicken fried steak. They used steak and not ground beef. It had a crisp breading but overall just middle of the road taste. This is a "safe" choice for a standard meal. I would eat here again. read more

This diner could be fabulous. Instead it is mediocre at best. The food is ok. But it could be better. The hashbrowns are of the frozen patty type variety. Orange juice is bottled. And the silverware is plastic. Other than that, the place is perfect. The atmosphere and decor are very nice and retro. Unfortunately the experience gets lost thanks to cost cutting corners. The food isn't bad. And it is worth a stop if you're hungry. It's just too bad they don't take the place up a notch. It would be epic. read more

Half and hour for an omelette midday. Super slow service and barely any toppings in the omelette. I think there's barely half a piece of bacon in there. Potatoes are soft and not well seasoned. You think because this is in the country standard issue American food would good. Go to Dairy Queen instead LOL read more

Just had the blueberry pancakes from Diane's Diner. They were delicious! The edges are crispy :) and blueberries plump and juicy. I've also had their club sandwich in the past and it's so big you can have two meals off of it. Don't forget to try their twice baked potatoes, yummy! I stop in every morning for coffee and the employees are friendly and I can get in and out quickly. We are fortunately they are in Hallettsville. read more

Came across this gem driving from Port A to Dallas. Delicious cheeseburgers, mac n cheese was amazing! Everything cooked to order, so it's a little bit of a wait. Not a problem though because there is plenty to keep you busy while you wait...antiques, a cooler of any and every kind of beer you could or would want, clean restrooms...and on and on. Eh, I wanted to be blown away by this place. We were driving by heading home from a road trip and decided to stop here. They were a busy as we had happened to stop by at lunch time. The lady at the register told us it would be about 30 minuets, we were in no rush at all so it was okay. My bf got the Reuben with fries and I had got the turkey blt with onion rings. I chose the blt because the lady in front of me had it and looked amazing. When our food came out they accidentally gave me a burger, so I went and told them. They were sweet and quickly got my blt, however, I could tell that they quickly got it because it was not cut right and my bread was not toasted enough like the one I saw. The Rueben pastrami did not taste right (my bf words). The best thing was the onion rings. We are those up. Unfortunately it was 1/2 the sand which and we could not finish the rest. I wish we stopped by when they were not busy, then maybe everything would have came out better. Who knows, don't let this review stop you. read more

We stopped here on our way through Hallettsville. I was not expecting to be impressed but the place was clean and the food was very good. I had a chicken strip basket and it was clear that the chicken was hand breaded. They also gave me 4 strips instead of the advertised 3 which is always a nice surprise. This is definitely a must go for my family we have come a few different times for every meal and it is just delicious. The service is always nice and friendly and the food is amazing and tasty and just the perfect size. Food is always finished, even by the little ones. It is conveniently with a gas station so there's snacks for the trip afterward as well as many drinks. We had a small accident with the order but that was very quickly and calmly figured out. My husband and I drove 35 miles to see if this place was good for breakfast. I am glad we made the effort. We had the make yourself omelets and they were very good. They use real cheese instead of velveeta. It came with breakfast fries and biscuit or toast. I had the biscuit and it was very good. It is serve yourself drinks with a very spacious coffee bar and cold drink area. You can tell that this was homemade food and very delicious. We will be back for dinner in the future. read more

We eat here twice a month after church and have not had a bad serving yet. Diane and Randy are both first class people. Food is excellent, people are friendly and the place is clean. The buns make the hamburgers great. Yeah you could go to DQ or Sonic but neither compare to the Diner. read more

Stopped by here again while driving through. This place was still spot on. Fresh and delicious food. Portions were perfect. Clean and friendly. Didn't have to wait long for food. Only wish I would of ordered more... ordered catfish plate, grilled cheese basket and kids chicken tender basket. Outside was kept clean as well. Trailer parking, outside picnic area. We've driven past this new diner several times and finally decided to stop in for a meal. It is part of the Morton's gas & convenience store. They serve breakfast from 7am-10:30am and meals until 9pm. Decor is 50s diner-themed. They have catfish, chicken fried steak, burgers, hot dogs, deli sandwiches, soups & salads on the menu. You have a choice of 10 different sides. Service is good and there are free drink refills. I'm not 100% certain, but I didn't see shakes on the menu - a must have for diners. I'll check again and ask the next time I stop by. I probably just missed it. If so, I'll update this review once I find out for sure. read more

This gas station-adjacent diner was a wonderful surprise. Traveling the night before Thanksgiving from Houston to Gonzales, our family of 4 needed a spot to eat dinner. This place satisfied all four of us, which can be a tall order. Clean bathrooms, occupying one side of gas station that is the cleanest I have seen, we all dined on hamburger steak, catfish basket, grilled cheese and chicken tenders. All homemade! The gravies were fresh, fried okra was top notch, two things that will let you know right off if they are bagged or jarred...clearly these are not. If you are in a tremendous hurry and looking for McDonald's, Diane's Diner will not be fast enough for you. If you want good quality, homemade local fare, this is the place. (Do not miss the mustard potato salad!!! It was perfect.) This is NOT off McLeon as Tripadvisor led me to believe, but a quick yelp search properly redirected us to hwy 77 north. Check out the Morton's beer selection; they have cans of Shiner Premium, which are unobtainable in Houston these days. Cheers! read more

We were overcharged not once but twice. Trying to make a healthy choice is a challenge at this place. Decided to get 2 grilled chicken breast with no sides. The breast were small, no flavor and appeared to be a compressed chicken product that had a rubbery consistency. My husband ordered 1 grilled chicken breast and his was not cooked all the way through. He got dressing as a side. He said it was very bland. All of their sides are very carby. The only actual veggie they offer is green beans and they are obviously out of a can and they clearly add sugar to them. My husband had tried them the first visit to this place.
