These guys make subs the way they should be made - and, yes, the bread actually does make the difference! You can order subs by ingredients DiBella's recommends, like "The Godfather" (basically, an Italian Mix), or to your specifications. This is near our office, so I've been here 5 or 6 times now. The ingredients are always fresh, parking and seating plentiful. Having moved to Syracuse 15 years ago from Albany, I've missed what I consider a true Submarine Sandwich. There aren't as many Italian/Jewish Deli's on this side of Syracuse, so I blame it on that. What I've mostly found in this area aren't great "subs," but great "sandwich's". This was my second time here. Both subs where ok but nothing great. My wife ordered a cold sub before I did. I got a hot sub which took quite some time to make. Not a big deal but by the time she was done eating hers mine was finally ready. They should ask if anyone was getting a hot sub first. The person making the subs was a little "out there". She didn't ask my wife what she wanted on the sub; she simply made it and then handed it to her. When my wife asked for mayo and sub oil she replied "that's the first thing I asked you" and handed her the sub. She wasn't rude about it but the thing is she had not asked my wife one thing while she was making it. There was mayo but no oil. My pager never went off when my food was ready. The same lady brought me my sub and said "your pagers been going off for a while". She dropped of my sub and walked away. My wife and I looked at each other and laughed in disbelief. The steak sub had a few walnut sized chunks of burnt food from previously made items. Even if they were not there the sub was not that good but not bad either. This place is better than Subway but what isn't? Wegmans subs crush this place and are slightly cheaper. read more

I think the one-star reviews are unnecessarily harsh. My wife and I each got large subs (I got the cheese-steak and my wife got the veggie) and the grand total came to around $17. We weren't doing cart-wheels with joy, but we weren't crestfallen with dissatisfaction. The subs I've tried are fine. Not great, not bad. Employees are nice and I like what they've done with the space (the finishes aren't high-end but stylistically it's a good look and the seating is comfortable too). The large subs are very large, but there's still a little sticker shock involved when an ordinary sub is $11. Not sure why the sandwich-making and toppings aren't in view of the customer - it works for Subway, and what they serve is barely food. This is a drawback for the first-time customer, because the set-up doesn't offer the opportunity to see that DiBella's serves shredded iceberg from a bag, cheap tomatoes, and white cooking onion. Would've been good to know and steer clear of that stuff. So it's worth a visit for an OK fast-food style sub, if standard-issue cold cuts and mediocre produce on a freshly-baked roll (decent, by the way) are your thing. I think DiBella's makes the best subs in the area. To be honest, I have not tried the Byrne Dairy deli sandwiches yet. But if you compare DiBellas to Firehouse, Jrecks, Subway, Jimmy John's and Jersey Mike's, there is no clearer winner than DiBella's. Jersey Mike's would be second for the cold subs, but not even close for hot subs. Couple that with their generous loyalty program and their delivery of many many meals to first responders and front line workers in 2020 during the height of COVID, this is a company I am glad to support. read more

My husband and I came here for lunch a couple of days ago, wanting to try something new. I ordered a pretty basic ham sub and my husband ordered a buffalo chicken sub. Overall the restaurant was clean and inviting but I was surprised at how many tables needed to be wiped down considering that there were several staff on and we were the only ones in the restaurant at that time. Our subs were okay at best. My husband could hardly taste the hot sauce on his sub which disappointed him. The employees that made our subs were friendly but the girl that cashed us out was not friendly and was rushing us while we were looking at the sides that were offered. In my opinion the prices were a little high too. I had high hopes for this shop but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back. I really enjoyed my experience here with the subs tasting very similar to the quality of a Wegman's sub. The rolls were very fresh and the meat seemed pretty good quality. The place is definitely a little pricey though, considering it's a sub shop. The only reason I didn't give this place a fifth star is because of the noise level. I found the ordering process a little overwhelming as I had to shout my order over a very tall counter and at someone who was not right in front of me. I am pretty tall for a woman and I fear this set up would make for a difficult time ordering for someone who is slightly shorter than myself. There isn't a single better sub in the area, period. And that's not for a lack of options. DiBella's makes their subs with all fresh ingredients, including freshly baked bread. Wegmans licenses the bread recipe, so their cold subs are similar in that way, but I find Dibella's to be slightly better (not sure what it is). The hot subs are what set DiBella's apart. I highly recommend getting a steak or chicken Philly. Side-note: don't let the subs overshadow the homemade cookies - grab one of these too. Keep in mind that you get what you pay for. You might pay $10 for a sub, but it'll make two meals. They do not skimp out on loading them up. Of the two one-star reviews I see below, one just received a wrong ingredient one time and somehow thinks Jreck's is better - they must like meat microwaved in a plastic bag and frozen bread. Service is slow and employee is hard to understand when you are being asked what you would like on your sandwich. We had to ask them to repeat themselves several times. Ordered a roast beef sub and a cheesesteak with onions and peppers and received peppers and mushrooms. You cannot see them make your sandwich so you have no idea what they put on it while making it. Bread is hard and greasy. A bit expensive for what you get. I'll stick with Jrecks and sorry I wasn't there now. read more

These subs are yummy. A lot for the price and filling. Love the everything bread. I always get a veggie and have them grill it. I've ordered for delivery several times, but went there in person yesterday. I would have given 5 stars, except when I asked them to grill the veggie sub yesterday they refused! Talk about B squad on a Sunday....went to the counter to order our food, just to be told there was 2 sub rolls left and more was in the oven. Two of us ordered while the other 2 choose to wait. They asked numerous employees what kind of bread was in the oven...both replied they didn't know. It was apparent the blind was leading the blind. After waiting a few minutes they decided to forget it when no one could tell the time it would take nor type of bread, after they looked several times in the oven...The subs were gross, ham full of fat and bread hard as a rock. My wife, son, and I stopped by to give this shop a try. When we entered it was a packed place with a line going all the way to the door. within a few minutes we were standing in front of the sandwich maker. Ordering here is not unlike ordering at Five Guys settling on your condiments from their list of about 40 or so and knowing what you want certainly makes for quicker service. We all ordered our subs mine was a cold sub so I got mine right away the other two were steak and cheese subs and were made to order and when done my wife and son were called to pick up their subs. All in all our 3 subs with drinks and chip was under $30 I think around $27.00. Not a bad price shops in our area have dramatically raised their prices to the point we don't even bother stopping in unless it's at a mom and pop shop. Ordered from them twice. Both times i wanted a buffalo chicken sub with lettuce and tomato nothing else. Both times i received a sub with only chicken and a disgusting amount of hot sauce. So much hot sauce that it was dripping out the wrapper and the roll was soggy with it aswell as the chicken sitting in a puddle of it. The chicken was also very rubbery and had a lot of connective tissue. Based on others reviews id say poor quality incredients and lousy sub making is their forte. I personally will never be ordering there again. Im hoping that the place to take the building when they close is about as good as this place is bad. read more

The harsh critics bashing this place are most likely used to eating at subway bread subs or jrecks where the health Dept writes up weekly for filth anyplace that's new needs to work out issues we have been here at least five times never had a bad sub . This was my second time here. The first was a poor quality BLT on a plain roll. It was dry and the bacon was over cooked. All roll and very little on it. The second time I ordered a cheese steak as it is stated on the menu board. With peppers and onions. It came with peppers and mushrooms. You would think that a new place with a new business model in our area would train their employees to be more helpful in guiding you through the ordering process. Maybe ask if anyone in the party wants hot sandwiches so they can get them started first. The first sandwich she made was cold, so I had to wait at the table for mine to be finished while my girlfriend ate. Also, people are made to wait, then are called to the counter, and then made to go back around to find the beginning of the counter to finish making the sandwich around other people.
