Our meals, table of four, were delivered promptly and the presentation was great. My wife had the egg plant parmigiana and I had the meat ravioli with bolognese sauce. The only discount on my overall rating was the raviolis were skinny. Seriously the thinnest meat raviolis on record. On the plus side, the sauce was so plentiful, it could have covered another platter of ravs. My wife teased that I should have gotten a go box for the sauce. All in a delightful evening. Music was fine, but just a tad loud for my liking. Not a complaint, just a comment. We live minutes away. We had not been for perhaps 10 years. We won't wait that long to return! We have been to this restaurant before with rave reviews on the food. But after visiting recently I knew something changed. There wasn't anyone but us 4 in the restaurant on a Friday night!So l googled and asked if there was a change in ownership and yes there was recently! Didn't surprise me. We were all very disappointed in the food. I had to return my food, ordered what was claimed to be Prime Rib but was not. It was covered with tomato sauce! I asked specifically if there was tomato sauce on it when I ordered it and was told No there wasn't any tomato sauce on it. I ordered it Medium Rare and it came well done. I ordered something else and was disappointed. When we got the check they tried to charge me for the so called Prime Rib plus my replacement! I told them it wasn't ok to do so they adjusted the bill but still charged me $10.00. I told them it was not acceptable and they should charge me for my replacement food. He said since he was the owner's son he could do anything. I said great, then please fix it. We were all very disappointed with our food. We have driven past this place many times with the wonderful of we were missing out. Ambience: Inviting, Italian decor. Music matched the atmosphere. Food: I had the chicken piccata with linguine. The chicken and pasta were cooked perfectly. My husband had the pasta special which he enjoyed. For dessert we ordered the tiramisu (it was ok, didn't taste homemade), and ordered espresso martinis. The martinis were meh... I asked before ordering what they were made of. Once delivered I was advised they added chocolate and a few other additives, not my favorite. I would give 2.5 stars, but 3 is too high, so they get 2. Parents: note that the kids menu goes up to age 7, unlike most restaurants that go to 10, 12, or 13, and they will STRONGLY enforce this. I still remember dining when I was 12 and being told I couldn't have the kids' pasta. Everything about this place is just average. The inside is pretty, the live singers make it feel fancy, and they have about 10-15 tables. Lots of space, a long bar, and a backroom area for large parties. The staff is nice enough as well. However, the food is the main attraction, and this is where it falls apart. Of the 10ish times I've come to this restaurant, I have NEVER walked out feeling anything more than mediocre satisfaction. We have been at this restaurant quite a few times in the past and have enjoyed the food and entertainment. However, on Christmas Eve 2025 we made a 5:15 reservation, specifically to see Sam, the lounge singer who regularly appears there. That night, due to the very full restaurant, according to our waiter, the kitchen was backed up. We left at 8:30 without having our entrees delivered. We are extremely disappointed, of course, having to have waited that long and not been able to have our dinner that was not delivered. The food is great and the staff and management go out of the way to be accommodating. We choose to enjoy relaxed family meals out with DiBenedetto over several other local Italian spots in Palatine. Fantastic chicken dishes and manicotti. My wife loves the "Fettuccine Harry's Bar". Parents, they have many affordable kid options. My little ones are happy go out whenever we can. Came for thanksgiving dinner. After the turkey was chased for an hour the turkey must have been plucked and cooked. Finally we were served over 2 hours later. My Thanksgiving meal was served. Burnt almonds burnt green beans. Tiny serving of stuffing, barely any turkey and the best part was NO gravy. Yes, I was served a meal without gravy. I then asked for gravy. I was told they had to make it. So roughly 10 mins later I received a soup bowl of beef gravy. BEEF gravy for my Thanksgiving dinner! The food was absolutely tasteful, we asked for the plates to be split into 2 for sharing purposes and they do charge a $6 split fee FYI. I had the Lambrusco and it was delicious. Great Service, Great Food and honest hard working people that will create a memorable experience at a great value. The restaurant is comfortable and everyone is there to make you feel at home. We ordered the stuffed mushroom appetizer. It was delicious and not to be missed. We were served 4 large fresh mushrooms that were cooked perfectly, stuffed with a crumbled sausage and served with a lemon cream sauce that balanced the dish. We also ordered the calamari and found it to be fresh and tender, not overdone. The servers also portioned out each appetizer for 4 people...no dishes to pass around. We loved the added touch! This is one of the few restaurants serving Harry's Bar Pasta (spinach linguine with prosciutto, peas in a light cream sauce). This did not disappoint and the portion size was so large we enjoyed leftovers the following day! Everyone one of the pasta dishes was outstanding from the orecchiette with crumbled sausage to the special chicken and bowtie pasta! I cannot say enough about the staff and how nice they were. The host came by twice to make sure if there was anything else they could do. We went on a Tuesday night and they have a great pasta special going, buy one special pasta and get the 2nd 50% off! This is a neighborhood restaurant that serves delicious food at a great value and deserves our support. We will be back to try additional dishes and enjoy a great time. It has been a while since we went to DiBenedetto Trattoria. We chose to go there last night. Frankly, of the places we looked at, they were the only one with a very short wait. While we have always had good meals there, last night's dinner was outstanding. The night we chose, they had live music. He was an older Italian singer who performed many of the Italian and old standards. While I don't think he'll sing at Carnegie Hall any time soon, he was fun and seemed genuinely lovely. Our server was the same one we had the last time we were there. It was busy, and they could use another server. But she was outstanding. Don't expect a quick turnaround with your meal. Their style is dining leisurely. For our meals: Two dinner salads. I had the minestrone, but I'm told they were good. Other than being salty, the minestrone was excellent. Our meals: Chicken Catchetori: This is one of my favorite meals. You have a choice of on the bone or off the bone. If you want on the bone, I suggest you order ahead. The prep time is an hour. So I opted for the off-the-bone. It was excellent. It was loaded with Chicken, potatoes, tomatoes, calamata olives, onion, and I'm not sure what else. The sauce was fantastic. No doggie bag for me. Even though the portion was huge, I ate it all. Penne with Vodka Sauce: Another very large portion, not for the faint of heart. While this is not something I can eat for dietary reasons, my 90-year-old, 85-pound mother polished it off. Pasta Primavera: This was also a great choice. The presentation of this, and all the meals, was fantastic. It was loaded with vegetables in a nice sauce. We did have wine - their house Chianti and the Pinot Grigios were both very good. Great Italian spot! I've lived close by for a few years but never really noticed this place. My wife and I decided to give it a try last night. We came about 6PM on Friday. We sat at the bar (we often prefer bar seating, but they have nice table seating as well). Service was beyond amazing. Everyone was helpful with suggestions and attentive. We ordered a couple mojitos (coconut & mango). They were freshly prepared and very good. We tried their calamari as an appetizer. We decided to have half normal calamari & half a spicy garlic flavor. Both very good! The normal style was what you are used to, and it was cooked to perfection. The spicy garlic version had an oily sauce on it. The flavor was amazing. Both my wife and I couldn't get enough! I will say the sauce makes the breading not as crunchy. We didn't mind that at all, but just a heads up incase that crunch is super important to you. For meals my wife made her own spaghetti with Italian sausage crumbles (they have options where you can pick your pasta, sauce, meats). I had their stuffed mushroom appetizer. Her spaghetti was amazing. She likes some spice, so she let them know and the sauce was so good. Lots of meat, tons of flavor, and just the right spice. Best pasta we've had in a long time. The stuffed mushrooms I had were great. Never had anything quite like it. And so glad I tried it. They are covered in a creamy sauce and filled with Italian sausage. Very good! They even had a singer that was great and entertaining. Very nice guy with a great voice and good song choices. They don't have live music every day I don't think. But they did this Friday. Friday night, date night! I had a taste for Italian. Wanted to try someplace new! Also wanted to try somewhere that was not a corporate chain. Found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. SO HAPPY WE DID! This family owned gem is hidden away in a strip mall. Don't let that deter you. The moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted by (we found out later) the co-owner. He promptly sat us and gave us menus, specials, and a wine/cocktail list. Our server, Char, was professional and very proud of and knowledgeable about the menu. My husband started with a manhattan and we had a bottle of wine with dinner. As soon as we see veal saltimbocca on the menu, one of us will be getting it. Always. And my husband did. And it was the most delicious veal saltimbocca we have ever tasted! Pounded perfectly thin, just enough prosciutto and cheese. The sauce was tangy and salty, but not too salty. I made yum noises the entire time. Served over perfectly al dente angel hair pasta. Although I should have just ordered that for myself as well (and next time I will) I decided to get a "create your own pasta" dish. Choosing was difficult, but after tasting my finished dish, I know I could order many more "creations" and be very happy. I chose a homemade fettuccine with a marinara, kalamata olive, anchovy sauce. I decided to add sliced Italian sausage and capers to it. DELICIOUS! For dessert I had to try the homemade tiramisu made that morning. Simply, perfectly soaked lady fingers and creamy delicious marscapone with just enough cocoa sprinkled over the top. As we were eating dessert a cart was brought to another table where he prepared bananas foster en flambe tableside. It looked incredible! (I wish I liked bananas) They did have two singers there that evening. They had lovely voices, but were simply singing along to karaoke tracks. It was just loud enough to hear, but not too loud to be intrusive on conversation. To cap the evening and make us fall even more in love with this restaurant...After the amazing food and incredible service, the owner/chef came out of the kitchen twice and walked around the every single table to introduce himself and make sure people were having a good time. Went to this restaurant for an anniversary celebration. We heard amazing things so thought we'd give it a shot. Our food come out, I got carbonara. My first two bites were good, until I saw a safety pin in my meal. We told the waitress, she was great and immediately went to talk to the manager. She came back and told us the manager wants to offer us a tiramisu on the house, not one that we ordered or even wanted. We waited for the check to see if we'd be charged for the carbonara, and we were. We asked to speak to the manager. He came out and compared a safety pin to a hair??? Then tried to tell us that we planted the safety pin the pasta. After a long back and forth conversation we finally got the carbonara off bill but we're still not happy. We called them the next day to speak to an owner or someone higher up. The manager we spoke to yesterday was the one who was on the phone. We told him we understand mistakes happen but someone needs to take accountability. He replied with, again, trying to plant the blame on us then told me that I should run the restaurant myself and then hung up the phone. Do not recommend this place to anyone.
