Took me a while to post this review because I wanted to give them a second chance after the New Year's Eve debacle. We waited over 2.5 hours for our food on NYE and finally had to leave after asking and pleading multiple times for our food. I told them we were leaving and they hurried to give me something to take home. Turns out they got our order wrong as well. Never heard from the Manager once even after asking to speak with him. Went back last week to give them another shot and the service was terrible again. We did get our food this time but it took an hour or so and it was not that crowded. It's a shame since the food here, when you actually get it, can be very good. Hate to say but I'm not going back again, I've had enough. read more

Ignore the other grumpy reviewers! Honestly best Italian in the NW suburbs. Everyone I bring here loves it. The service is super friendly and they move at a fair pace. I get it! Not the fastest, but this is what you get from a home grown suburban restaurant. I usually go with a large groups..so we order a lot. Apps: The stuffed mushroom are to die for Bruschetta: table favorite Stuffed artichokes is pretty tasty. Always get the house salad with creamy garlic. Main course: I do the build your own pasta. Their Fra divalo sauce is to die for if you like spice! It is heavy though. I like their lamb chops a lot. I also like their white fish dish's. Great VODKA SAUCE too! I have never had a bad meal here. Some are betters than the others, but overall get excited everytime we go here. read more

Everything we come, the service is top notch. The drinks and food are delicious - they allow you to tailor your dish ANY way you choose, even stating that if it's not in the menu, the chef will make it. This is great for me because I love adding lots of vegetables and making substitutions and they NEVER made me feel awkward or guilty for it. Truly a neighborhood gem that we get excited for in a regular basis. Bread and oil service and complimentary homemade limoncello is also #chefskiss. read more

One of our new favorites. The server Nate has a little sassy personality which fit in right in with us. Food was delicious, lemonchello spritzer was refreshing and did not mind a quiet dining room. Another pleasant surprise tucked in to a strip mall. We took the parents here for dinner last night and had a pleasant evening. Our server mentioned right away they were staffed a bit lean that evening & apologized in advance should there be any delays. For the most part he & the other server did a good job keeping up with everything. They have good variety of wines to choose from along with a full bar and a handful of beers (beers are not listed on the menu so just ask the server what they have). We started with their crispy calamari which was fresh, tender and fried just right without being greasy. They have quite a variety of Italian dishes on the menu and a handful of specials as well. Everyone enjoyed their different meals and my father-in-law said it was the best Chicken Saltimbocca he'd ever had. Their portion sizes were quite generous so we each ate about half and took the rest home. The entrees came with either soup or salad as well. We had dessert waiting for us at home so we didn't try any of their sweet offerings. read more

Went here for dinner with some family. The atmosphere is very nice, relaxing and clean. (See picture). They have large storefront windows so the lighting made the place look really nice. We had the: Minestrone Soup: Not bad, tasted fine. (Came free with meal) Funghi Ripieni: 4 button mushroom caps stuffed with a mix of sausage, bread crumbs and cheese and topped with a cream sauce. There's also a little salad on the plate with it. I would say this dish is a little salty for my tastes and at 10.00 is too pricey for 4 stuffed mushrooms...maybe if they were stuffed Portobello's it'd be worth it. Linguine Vongole (Red Sauce): 6 big clams and lots and lots of little clams. This dish was TOO DAMN SALTY! The portion was huge but the red sauce was really really watery. I would say at 18.00 this dish is worth the price for what you get if you like tomato seawater as pasta sauce. I would say that the best part about this place is the service. The people are really friendly and fast about getting you your food. My waiter kept refilling my tea when it was low without me even asking. The worst part about this place is that they will literally charge you 6 dollars to split an entree. That to me is a ridiculous cost just to put 1 dish on 2 plates. Overall I would say this place is not that great if you're a food focused diner. If you consider the ambiance and service very important then you might want to give it a try. 2 Stars for food, +1 Star for Service and Atmosphere, -1 star for crappy pricing. To give you some perspective on what I consider salty: I eat at Olive Garden and think it tastes just fine... so there ya go. Don't waste your time patronizing this restaurant. Walked in and walked out. Maître d' was very rude. I was ignored by three different employees while I stood there for 2 to 2 1/2 minutes waiting to be acknowledged. We wanted Italian that wasn't from a corporate chain, and the menu looked decent. The interior is charming and we were seated right on time. First the salad: just mixed greens with a couple of little heirloom tomatoes. I ordered eggplant parm and my husband the veal parm. Both arrived under a thick slab of mozzarella-ugh!-and a blanket of tomato sauce. The eggplant itself was good, just way too gunked up. The veal was odd: a large, thin slice that was cooked dry around the edges, and once again hidden under too much sauce and mozzarella. Parmesan-where? We expected much better. read more

This was our first time here. I cannot describe how awesome the food is. Minestrone soup was delicious and tangy. Chicken Piccata was the best I've ever had, perfect lemony taste. The Ciambotto was unbelievably fantastic. If you're looking for some place new to try, this one to try. They also do live music on Fridays with no cover charge. read more

Worst customer service ever!! Came to pick up my food from a call in order. 1. It wasn't ready for 15 min after they said it would be. 2. They brought a piece of paper for me to sign with my credit card number on it after I signed it they left it on the table so anyone could have seen it. 3. When they finally gave me my order it wasn't complete so I had to wait longer for them to finish it and they didn't even update me if it wasn't almost ready or even being fixed. This place is usually a 5 star experience but on a recent visit I would give the food a 5 and the service a 2. We dined with close friends and I was disappointed and embarrassed by the service. I am not sure if it was the server or the kitchen but our 2nd drinks were slow and only 3 out of the 4 meals came out at the same time. The 4th came out close to when the other 3 were done. My husband and I went to DiBenedetto's on Saturday night for our anniversary. Prior to going I was a bit concerned because of the negative reviews posted on this site. My experience was vastly different than those who wrote negative reviews. I found the restaurant to be very clean, the servers were exceptionally attentive and they quickly responded to diner's needs even if it wasn't their table. We received our drinks quickly, our salads were delicious, we were offered refills on our bread basket, and the main courses were great! I had the special - spinach ravioli and enjoyed it very much. Yes DiBenedetto's is on the pricey side but was well worth it for a special occasion. read more

Our server was so attentive and fun, other servers stopped by as they were taking care of their tables to comment on our meals and even tell us the best way to re-heat our leftovers (slowly on stove top, don't microwave). I am really impressed with this new restaurant in the area! Since my family moved down the street from this restaurant (it's hard to miss since it is part of a strip mall), it has been three different things--Cafe Clemenza, Capri, and now DeBenedetto's. I didn't care for CC, Capri was the shizz, but this measures up as well!! BTW, as they state on their coupons, they are NOT affiliated with Clemenza's OR Capri. They stand alone! This is also written on the coupons they give out if you join their page on Facebook, HINT HINT. My husband and I went for my birthday. We weren't sure we needed reservations, so we decided to wing it. As we were walking in that day, we saw a sign on the door that said that they were having $6 Limoncello Martinis. Sign me up!!! We were one of three tables in the restaurant, so we neednt have worried!! We ordered our limoncello martinis while my husband got a Peroni, and we were on our way. The coupon was $15 off an order of $50 or more, so we also ordered the calamari in addition to our meals. It was really hot, fresh, and the marinara that came with it was delicious! I got the ziti, which was amazing, but I forgot to order it without peas. Peas and I detest each other. But it was my oversight, so I tried to eat around them. If you are a pea lover, then this dish is for you. I could barely eat around them, really since the dish was RAMPANT with them! But what I was able to eat around was really good. My husband ordered the steak, and he didn't even need a knife to cut it--that's how tender it was. SO delicious! Each meal comes with a choice of soup or salad (I chose both! ;)). Their minestrone was good, but their pasta fagioli was different than every other I've come across. I wouldn't say I would order it again, that's for sure. The tried and true minestrone would be my pick next time (and there WILL be a next time!) Super strong drinks, attentive service, bread at every table, and amazing food. This IS my favorite restaurant. Just happens to be Italian but..... anyway the food is simply outstanding and service is above reproach. If you crave veal dishes, Vittorio, the owner, will make it any way you desire including braciole which is almost non existent in Chicago. Same with stuffed artichoke. We called for a 6 pm reservation and were told the only available time was 530. We thought, wow, must be good if a place in the middle of the burbs was that sought after. First disappointment was the place was just about empty and remained that way until we left. Im not saying they didnt have reservations but either no one showed or there is poor planning. Our waiter was pretty terrible. I would have told the owners but they were too busy socializing with the regulars. Food for thought for them is dont just ask your regulars and friends how the service was, ask everyone. The table next to us wasnt happy either. Lastly, the food was sub par. My husband had salt filled chicken and my pasta had so much garlic I can keep vampires away. All around not a great experience. read more

Another "Groupon made me do it" selection and I'm glad they did. Went here for lunch with a friend and we both walked away feeling good about the place. He had the ziti with crumbled sausage and peas - as another reviewer noted, there were peas aplenty and like her, if I try the dish I'll have to remember to order it without them. I ordered the gnocchi in vodka cream sauce and thought it was excellent. Sometimes cream sauces are way too rich - this was right on. This was an amazing environment with calming music. We went on a Friday and the singer was so sweet he took requests and completed the experience. The owners were walking around greeting customers and added a very personal feeling making all welcome. The food was delicious with MANY options of various pastas, sauces, and meats. Outstanding food, the best Italian bread in any restaurant in Chicago, the entrees are outstanding.

Let me start by saying that I struggle giving any restaurant a 5-star review...not so with Di Benedetto's Trattoria (DB's)! First, this is not our first visit to DB's; we have been dining at DB's ever since Vittorio opened the doors many years ago. I'm also convinced: Vittorio is never satisfied with status-quo; he continues to set the bar higher. Tonight, we opted to order our appetizer and entrées from the "Daily Special" menu. For our appetizer, we shared the seasonal Melrose Peppers Ripieni. When available, the Melrose Peppers (stuffed with Italian sausage) are an absolute must! The tomato sherry wine sauce that smothers the peppers is second to none! You'll use several pieces of bread to soak up every drop of it. DB's "regular menu" offers endless choices...and then there's the "Daily Specials". We opted to try a new item for our entrées and each had a slight variation of his "Costoletta Di Maiale Pizzaiola". When the entrées are delivered to your table, it will take a minute or two before you can pick up your fork. The food looks magnificent...truly a visual feast! My wife preferred her entrée served over mushroom risotto, while I opted for DB's angel hair pasta. Both exceeded our wildest expectations! The pounded, bone-in pork chop covered the entire plate and was topped with peppers, onions, mushrooms, a touch of tomato and provolone cheese. I'm happy to say that the portion size will allow us to continue enjoying these meals for another dinner! Bottom line, DB's continues to serve creative, outstanding meals at reasonable prices. I went to DiBenedetto Trattoria for my first time this last week on a Thursday evening as part of a company Christmas dinner. There were 18 of us in total, we had one large table. First and foremost, I was very impressed by the level of service received considering we had a rather large party. Our waitress and waiter took excellent care of everything that we needed and were very attentive. For appetizers, we had bruschetta, calamari, and stuffed mushrooms, all were very good. For my main course I chose the papardelle, which I would give a 4 out of 5. I would like to go back try some other classic offerings as well. I am generally very happy we have this place but I have only "local, suburban strip mall" expectations- not downtown eclectic. Service has always been very good for us. We have probably dined here 10-15 times and did carry out another 6-10 times. We love the ziti, the seafood, salmon Romano, grilled or fried calamari, etc. One time several families ordered carryout together and were short one dish. We had a couple orders of that dish and plenty of dishes to share so it wasn't a big deal but the owner dropped it off at our back yard gathering anyway. Its not a delivery place but he delivered anyway. I sometimes find the live singing a little too much but it has been dialed down through the years. read more

Nice atmosphere but it's a little pricey. Food was good and the appetizers were delicious as well. I would recommend the baked clams for an appetizer. I ordered there spicy seafood pasta special. It was linguini with muscles, clams, shrimp and fish. It was a generous portion but unfortunately one of the muscles must have been on its way and really ruined the whole dish giving it an off flavor. This happens from time to time with seafood and I really can't blame the restaurant. That was the only downside to my experience. Well that and the fact that it was a tad pricey. We reserved seating for a party of fourteen for a celebration of life dinner, following a wake. The staff was warm and friendly, service was great, the food was outstanding - loved the scallops special - everyone enjoyed the food, preparation, presentation, staff attention and the house wines were very good. By the end of the evening, there was a lighter atmosphere of our guests. Vito, the owner, showed his determination to make our visit special and a success by personally watching over our service and satisfaction. He probably didn't know I noticed! Great menu - good presentation - enjoyed the celebrity atmosphere and they do have entertainment Friday and Saturday evenings. Casual wear is OK, but it's a great place for family (We had two kids and a toddler in our party) or for a date night. Just my opinion and I eat out a lot!!!! read more
