I always enjoy visiting this cafe on my annual visit to the area for the Houston rodeo. Brookwood…read moreis a residential facility that also provides vocational training and for jobs to adults with special needs. The cafe serves excellent lunches with a varied menu. I had salad that was stuffed with fresh lettuce, apples, candied pecans, blue cheese and a delicious apple vinaigrette dressing. I added grilled chicken, making it a healthy, yet filling meal. My friend had the chicken crepes which came with thick, beautiful asparagus and broccoli. The crepes were served with a mushroom cream sauce that made it a very rich dish. The chicken tortellini soup was the special of the day, and had a thick broth as the base, stuffed with chicken meat and cheese filled pasta. Everything was delicious, right down to the warm yeast rolls. Brookwood is a fun place to walk around after enjoying your meal because it has a beautiful nursery and gift shop with unique offerings, including some items made in the vocational programs. Many of the employees in the cafe and other commercial areas are part of the vocational programs, as well. All of them are friendly and proud to serve their patrons and supporters.

Decorated for the holidays, it was very festive, but even more important, the food and wait staff went beyond. Because of our size, we pre-ordered our lunches and had an 11 o'clock reservation, along with about 50 + other people. Our food came out almost immediately, and was nicely cooked and still warm. A rarity when you're serving that many people. The citizens of Brookwood were all friendly and welcoming. Thank you Brookwood for taking such good care of us.

We started off with some great appetizers: note - most of these were off the menu specials for that night. Texas wagyu Thai meatballs - 10/10 - amazing Croquettes - 10/10 - crispy and delicious Shrimp and burrata -10/10 - nice combination Drink: the red sangria was 10/10 - so refreshing! Entree: I ordered the halibut special. The halibut was buttery with a nice flaky crust. It was accompanied by mashed potatoes with a chorizo cream sauce. This was outstanding!!! They should really make this part of the regular menu. I 100% recommend it if you hear it on the off menu specials. Side: Mac and cheese and we added a lobster tail - 9/10 - was super tasty. Desserts: Spiced rum bread pudding - 10/10 - this is THE only dessert you need to get. Key lime pie - 7/10 - good Coconut cream pie - 9/10 - I thought this was very yummy! It has a cool country vibe. We sat outside and the live music was great! The only thing is that it is very hot, so if you don't like that. I recommend sitting inside. Service was a 10/10. Our server, Steven, was awesome. He had some terrific recommendations and everything was spot on. Def recommend trying this place out.

It's very cute and has a country-like, warm, welcoming vibe. Cons: the main food lacked flavor (chicken, roast, calamari, bread, steak), service wasn't friendly and it's expensive. I'm not a fan and won't be back, definitely not worth the drive or price.
