I love the turkey dinner special, the beef tips special, the catfish, the fried okra, and -- since I'm German -- Tony's liver and onions. This is starting to be our standard road trip diner, for breakfast traveling the back roads to League City, and lunch on the return. They always have a large selection of menu items for any craving, and everything is always fresh. Portions are generous. There is plenty of parking out front, and it's another place where the customers spend more time visiting than scrolling their phone. The staff is unfailingly friendly and attentive, and it appears like everyone pitches in to keep things moving. It appeared like the owner (not sure, older man with cowboy hat) was making the rounds, stopped by our table, shook my hand while greeting, and then touched his hat to my wife. Don't see that kind of old timey courtesy very much! Saw him a few minutes later discussing with a small child what flavour of sucker they got rewarded. I took my mom and son to breakfast last Saturday and headed to Tony's. I heard good things about and wanted to check it out myself. So off we go. My mom got the veggie omelette, son got a short stack and biscuit w/ sausage gravy and I went 2 biscuits and gravy and side of bacon. Mom's omelette was big - big enough for left overs. Son plowed thru his stack, biscuit and gravy. Said it was all good. And mine was good too. Service was good considering how busy they were. Tip: we sat in the back room and it echoes. Very loud. How can you miss a visit to Tony's? I have visited here for over 4 years. The Ambience is superior. The character is astonishing. But the food is amazing. As you walk in first thing, you see is almost any pie or cake on display. The smell of their fresh baked biscuits can make any person hungry. Tony's is a regular stop for my family either going to Houston or in our return to San Antonio. I must mention that my wife and I had the chicken fried steak on our most recent visit. We were passing through on a road trip and decided to give this place a try. It is a really big restaurant. They were hopping on a Monday at 1:00 in the afternoon. We walked in and grabbed a seat. The waitress gave us a menu. We noticed everyone going up front and had to ask if they had a buffet. Well, they did so instead of ordering off the menu we just went through the line. I got the chicken gumbo. It was very flavorful. I enjoyed it a lot. My mom got the chicken fried steak. She said the steak was actually very bland. It looked good, but she said it wasn't all that. Ha ha I had to ask several times to get a refill on my water. I know they were busy but our waitress did not come by to check on us at all. I normally take extra cash to tip since my mom is old school and doesn't leave very much, but today I let her tip, because I didn't feel the waitress was worth any extra. The pie looked very good, but we did not order any. Will save that for another day. read more

I've visited a few times over the years, probably the last time was during their last time opening in the 1990s. I recently had a project in the Sealy area, so it was a good time to visit again. Their lunch specials are from 1030 until they are sold out. The chicken fried steak price jumps up to dinner pricing at 3 pm. I have only ordered the cfs here. So I can mainly just vouch for that. On my recent visit. I came around 305pm, and it was a pretty late lunch. The chicken fried steak, along with most of their entrees, comes with 2 sides. I chose green beans and baked potato for about $3 extra. Cfs - it's a small beef cutlet, likely around 6oz and pretty dense and thin. The good part is , meat comes to the edge of the breading, so you don't have a lot of extra breading to throw away. It's not the best cfs in Texas by any means, but it will do most days. The green beans are canned and come with sliced mushrooms. The baked potato is decent but uses cheap bacon bits, and some of the potato isn't fully cooked sometimes. Overall, the service is pretty good since they have a lot of staff to come check on you. They do have a good selection of homemade pies for dessert. They had about 8 on the last visit. I chose the coconut custard pie, which is one of my very favorites and one that I usually make at home since you rarely see it at restaurants. This is a pretty similar recipe to the one i make at home; therefore, I approve and give them 4 stars overall for good comfort food. read more

Coming here is like stepping back in time! It's like we went back to the late 70's - early 80's! There are lots of booths and tables - also dated. Dessert / Pie coolers are up front by the registers, a lunch counter where singles can eat, and waitresses that seem old/ experienced enough to have been here since it opened! (And they call you "sweetheart!"). On our visit, the hubs and I (50's) were the youngest people in the place. Every single customer had to have been about 70+! The menu is an old school American diner type menu with burgers, sandwiches, and chicken fried steak type offerings. The food was good, if you like typical diner type fare. Camping over at Stephen F Austin, we'd been to Tonya before on a camping trip, but doesn't look like I wrote a review. So, time to fix that! I let's for the both of us: Western for hubby and ham & cheese for me. We're going to split a cinnamon roll as an appetizer. (This is my kinda place!) Ordered coffee, and the cup is teeny-tiny. Not a bad thing, but it's nearly the size of a thimble. The cinnamon roll arrived: delicious, gooey, very doughy. Really tasty, the doughy-ness of the bread was something we've really missed being on keto lifestyles. Needless to say, that one was demolished was fast!! Y'all be sure to come here hungry. Our omlets were just served and between the three eggs, all the good stuff inside, the HEAP of hasbrowns and the bread- this is a serious meal! Great taste, serious home-cooking. After a long day on the road going from San Antonio, to Houston, back to San Antonio, hunger struck, and struck hard. In the middle of no where, and not a lot of to choose from, I googled nearby food places, and Tony's popped up. Mixed Yelp reviews, and my curiosity got the best of me, so my boss and I pulled in and decided to give it a whirl. Upon walking in, we were told to grab our own table and we would be served as soon as they could. The restaurant did not look like much from the outside, but I must say the inside was set up nice, and very clean. Shortly thereafter, and as promised, an older lady approached our table and proceeded to take our drink orders. My boss and I perused the menu and made our selections. The restaurant serves breakfast all day, so my boss and I decided to order breakfast. Since I had not had a chance to eat all day, I ordered the Country Breakfast, which includes a little of everything. Eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, toast or pancakes. This order looks like it will knock out hunger pretty quick. Our orders came in good time. Overall, the meal was very good. My only complaint was the bacon was chewy, rubbery, and got stuck in my teeth. It tasted like it had been sitting out for a couple days. Terrible. Other than that, I was pleasantly surprised. We got up, paid our bill, and were promptly on the road again. If you are in this area and hungry, I would recommend Tony's. Overall, not bad, and decent food. I would stop here again, no problem. You might not think much of it from just passing by because it is a very no frills and just basics exterior and interior but let me just stop you right there and share that omg this is just home cooking heaven. My husband drives semi trucks and this place is perfect for those traveling and need a place to eat early. We were seated around 10:50 and were able to get chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken. The price is so cheap for how big the portions are and the food is super fresh and delicious. I will say I liked the chicken fried chicken better as it was more flavorful than the fried steak but still I was satisfied. The best part we're the creamy mashed potatoes. Best I've ever had! Stopped in for breakfast because I saw so many cars out front. I knew it had to be good if that many patrons were choosing to eat here. Talk about not judging a book by its cover! I ordered a standard breakfast (standard in my opinion) Sunny side up eggs, sausage patties, crispy hash brown and a biscuit. The homemade salsa was excellent. The eggs were under cooked, biscuits were hard and dry, definitely not homemade, and the "crispy" hash-browns I ordered looked like fried potato strings out of a can. They weren't, but that's exactly what they looked like. Coffee was weak and the sausage patties were thin and clearly previously frozen. It was just terribly disappointing. 2 stars because the wait staff was amazing and friendly, very warm and welcoming. Restaurant was clean. I pass thru here while traveling and always wanted to stop by, I love a good home cooked meal. I have recently relocated nearby and one of the locals recommended it, so I decided it was time to stop by and give it a try! As I walked in, I was greeted by the hostess and seated promptly, she had a smile and nice attitude, pleasant and happy lady. The restaurant was about 20% capacity from the looks of it so not too busy. I sat there scrolling thru my phone and watching some of the locals and seeing what they were eating. I noticed the waitress working and bussing checking on every table. She seemed friendly and happy and was chatting with everyone so I was happy to be there. After a while, I looked up from my phone to realize I had been sitting for over 10 minutes and nobody even took my drink order. , she even walked directly by several times with out even making eye contact, checking and chatting with the table in front of me. I started noticing her talking and waiting on every table but mine and then I realized she was intentionally scanning over me and wouldn't make eye contact with me whatsoever ever. As I sat there in disbelief and started gathering my stuff, another worker tried to come over and help me asking to get someone else to serve me, but at this point, I realized what was going on and I just wanted to leave. One star for the owner being very friendly. Tonys has kinda this truck stop meets cafeteria vibe. Went here per my mother in law's recommendation. They have a steam table full of fried everything but none of it is really anything worth eating. Everyone in my party got the fried fish with various sides and I got two pancakes with two eggs. Nothing about the food seemed fresh and seasoning was pretty much nowhere to be found with the exception of salt. My son said his green beans were just mush. The crowd here is about 90% over 65 and honestly the restaurant was pretty dirty which was a bit hard to get over. The bathrooms were pretty bad. To sum it up it seems like there's a lot of prepared in advance food items here. We definitely won't be returning but it looks that Tony's already has their clientele they cater to and that's good enough for this establishment. read more
