First time visiting this location after my usual Dickie's in Clairemont closed (sad face). This restaurant seems to have a smaller overall store footprint, but still retains all the feels of from the other Dickie's locations I've patronized over the years. I dropped my same day order via their app and popped in after the scheduled pickup time because I knew it would be busy and they would likely be behind schedule--they were. The hardworking staff were doing their best to fill orders with the team members they had on deck. They easily could have used at least 1-2 more to cover the rush but I'm sure it's hard to justify those costs between busy spikes like Independence Day weekends. Anywho, after a bit of waiting in the store I was able to confirm my order and carry it out. I should have spent my time more wisely and filled up several small containers of their signature sauce while I waiting for my order to be filled. Normally, I can request a small container of sauce but it was crazy busy and I was just happy to get my order and that it was correct so I could return to feed my hungry family. - Brisket was solid. - Same with the pulled pork. - Seems like the yummy biscuits were recently replaced with a pitiful version of Texas toast; or perhaps that's just what this location offers. - Small salad is a joke here - Beans are still a favorite of me and my kids - Fries were a soggy mess Not a bad first visit. The meats were solid, which really are the key selling point here for me and the fam. Didn't like the Texas toast here at all or the sad excuse for a salad. I'll stick with beans, fried okra with mac & cheese for my sides next visit. It was a bit of a drive but Still worth a visit when it's too hot and I'm too lazy to cue myself.

I don't usually review chain restaurants, but after a full daddy-son day, we were both wiped and hungry. I was craving some southern BBQ, searched nearby spots, and saw Dickey's pop up about 5 miles away. Decided to give it a shot even though the reviews online had mixed reactions. Glad I did. This place is under new ownership and it's a completely different experience now. The food is way better, the vibe is better, and honestly the old reviews don't do it justice anymore. When we walked in, it had a clean setup but still gave that southern BBQ feel. I ordered sliced brisket, smoked chicken, and smoked turkey. All of it was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. For sides I got baked beans and mac and cheese, plus Texas toast. Everything came out hot and tasted legit. My son kept stealing bites off my plate, so that's how you know it was good. The guy running the front was cool too. Real friendly, made us feel welcome right away. Gave off a solid BBQ joint vibe. Overall, this spot impressed me. It's a great little spot for BBQ, especially after a long day with the kid. Definitely coming back.

This was my first time trying Dickey's Barbecue Pit. I like to order the family combo or combo meals in bbq places. I like that you can try a little bit of everything they have to offer. Different meats and sides. I ordered the family combo for $89.99 for myself and my family. We got the pork ribs and sliced brisket. I was expecting whole slices. This brisket looked like pulled pork. I just feel when you cut brisket this way it drys out faster. The ribs were really good. The meat was falling off the bone. And when you check in on yelp, you get a free sandwich. I picked the turkey sandwich. I forgot to take a picture of it. It was ok. The sides we picked were Bbq baked beans, they were good. Loaded mashed potatoes. They weren't to our liking. They felt like they need some kind of gravy to go with it. We also got Mac and cheese. That Mac and cheese was so disappointing. They were cold. Not even lukewarm. Such a waste of a side option. We didn't even eat it. The ladies that worked at this restaurant were really nice. But, if they had checked the food temps on the Mac and cheese they would've known right away that the Mac and cheese needed to be warmed up. Another thing that I didn't like about this restaurant was the bathrooms. They have 2 unisex bathrooms. Both bathrooms were dirty. And I mean dirty! They both looked like they haven't been clean in a while. I walked out and told the girls working that both bathrooms were dirty. They said they would look. But I have no clue if they had cleaned them. I probably won't be back to this restaurant. If I'm craving bbq, I will go to the Rib Shack in Fallbrook or Firehouse Que & Brew in Fallbrook.

Always when I come here the owner is such a positive and enthusiastic individual. No matter what he will make things right by his business. Always when I order everything is fresh including the French fries; they start cooking your right as you arrive. I love this place for good barbecue

This place is under new management and it shows! The service is fantastic, the food is sooooo much better now! The prices a good especially for being BBQ, the meats were nice and juicy, not dried out. We ordered pulled pork sandwiches, the westerner and jalapeño sausages. We met the new owner and they were so grateful for the business and even voiced how thankful they are to have good help. You don't see that often. We will be returning!

I've update this review from a couple of years ago. I thought I'd give it another try. This time I ordered the brisket sandwich, fries and a drink. The fries were pretty good. The meat in the sandwich was delicious. Plenty of bbq sauces were available. It was served hot, the meat was not fatty, it was tender and very tasty. I thought the bun was so so but favor of the meat compensated for that. Service was very good. People were friendly, ask if I needed any questions answered. They brought my food to me quicker than expected. Very happy with service. The one thing still lacking is the look of the place. Very worn looking, overhead menu was full of mark outs and tape overs. Really needs an update. I'll go back. read more

This was our first experience eating at Dickey's. The staff were super friendly. The Eating area has a retro feel. I got the plate with pulled pork, brisket, with green beans and potato salad. The owner came out and talked with us and asked how our game went at CSUSM college baseball. They have one of those super soda machines with tons of options and the ice you can chew. Food Was Great! Huge improvement with new Management. Everything was Delish! The food was just like (maybe better) than the old Dickey's in Dallas. We shared a brisket sandwich and 3-meat platter. They even have new items to attract college students. I was skeptical after reading the reviews but everything is new since last Fall. As I sit here and wait for my food from its tabu after stupidly ordering at this place I have to post this. This use to be a great spot at one point but now it smells the menu has random duct tape on it and the meat is dry 18$ for some meat, gross Mac and cheese and a plain bun. They use to have soft serve and the sauces were fresh and good. I went to go get a beverage and they were out of most no sugar free options. A co worker and myself ordered last night, placed the order at 8:20pm said it was going to be ready for pick up at 8:45.pm. I get to Dickey's at 8:40pm take a picture of the place at 8:41pm because it was closed. It looked like it had been closed for a while, they must have closed early for some reason. Nice portions the ribs were "fall off the bone" good. Baked beans were as expected, not unique but definitely not a bad side either... they were "fine". The CORN BREAD should not be missed. Was passing by and saw the new ownership sign and figured to give them another shot... The old ownership and menu and food was atrocious... This new owner Nash is a super down-to-earth nice guy. The food is really good like any other barbecue place it's not cheap, but I found it to be worth it... There are some things that are not worth it like the salad, but anything in the meat category and the fries and the baked potato are absolutely worth it. Food is great! I would strongly recommend additional staffing. Came in on a Sunday evening. Only two employees, based on the wait the store needed 1-2 more employees. They were trying to keep up with walk ins and catering orders. There were customers that left because of the wait. Also, would recommend that you all play some music. Went here a couple years ago and it was very disappointing. Ended up going today because they had some event where a percentage of the cost would be donated to the kids' school. It looks like it's under new management as of just a couple months ago (I think he said his name is Ash?) The difference was night and day. Everything was so good and cooked perfectly! The staff was courteous and polite, working hard rather than standing around playing on their phones. The manager was super nice and I can tell he's put a lot into bringing this store back on the map. If you were disappointed with it before, I recommend you give it another shot. read more

So I decided to order this stickies and give it a try, and had it be delivered to our house. The driver said he waited over an hour for the food. When the food got here, it was soggy. The beans were flat disgusting. The barbecue beans were decent. The macaroni and cheese was mediocre. The Texas toast was just nothing but pieces of bread that were soggy. NEW OWNER as of 1-20-2025! Food is absolutely delicious, fresh and high quality! I had the Southern Pulled Pork sandwich - it melts in your mouth and amazing flavor and not too Smokey. Fries are hand cut, blanched and then fried - best I've had! The ambiance is really cool and welcoming. If you happen to be visiting anyone at Kaiser hospital it's a great place to grab a quick, fantastic meal! That's how I happened upon this place, while waiting for my grandson to be born! While my husband had an appointment nearby, I placed a To Go order for pick up. We had been craving BBQ and this place was nearby. I placed an order thru Yelp: $60.40 Pork Rib Plate, Pulled Pork Classic Sandwich, Pulled Pork Classic Sandwich, Big Yellow Cup, Dinner Rolls When I went to "curbside" to pick up my order, nobody came out. I called and they were super confused. Apparently because I had ordered through Yelp, they thought it was Grubhub and they were waiting for a Grubhub driver to come and pick it up. After a little back and forth, they finally believed me that I really had placed an order and that I was outside. They brought it out to me eventually. BBQ, disappointing, I should have remembered that Dickey's is not actual BBQ. The only terrific Dickey's BBQ we had ever had was (surprisingly) in the Dallas Fort Wayne Airport a couple years ago. Not only was the food absolutely delicious, but the guy working there was quite a character. Such a great experience - this was not the same. So this crappy Dickey's BBQ satisfied the craving for now. But worst part was they gave me a Sweetened Tea instead of unsweetened. This is an unforgivable offense for me. Never going back, but good luck to you. read more

We had Nash help us cater a party for our community and it was perfect. We had the beef brisket, pulled pork and the chicken breast and all were cooked perfectly, and the sides were delicious: the cole slaw went fast. Really there are no words to describe... We purchased lunch via the online ordering system... at the time there was a promotion for buy one sandwich get one free. Believe it or not when we arrived at the store the manager said he would only give us one of the two sandwiches because they don't "participate in promotions" ... I reminded him that this was their online ordering system that I used... didn't really matter to him he offered me my money back. Here are a couple of interesting photos from their current "promotions" I especially like the $6.99 special which starts at $15... I've noticed there's almost never anyone in there when you go to the store and it's not surprising that they have to gouge the handful of people that show up every day. read more

good customer service. horrible food. used to eat at dickeys years back decided to try it again and things went down hill. got the brisket and rib plate. none had any smoke flavor. ribs were over cooked, dry, and burnt. cooked way too fast. brisket lacked flavor. zero smoke taste, not cooked low and slow. zero plans to ever return. shame. realistically hadn't ate there in a least 7-8 years as a result of food poisoning. read more

Unfortunately, almost everything about the experience was frustrating. When we ordered, we specifically asked the employee whether two sides came with the entrees. We were told yes. Based on that information, we each selected two sides. My husband ultimately only wanted one side, so we clarified that he would just get an extra portion of the one he wanted instead. We also clearly explained our sauce preferences. I wanted mine on the side, while my husband specifically wanted his sauce cooked onto his burger. We repeated this because it was important to us. When we saw the receipt, we realized we had been charged separately for all of the sides. Our total was nearly $70 for two people who ordered burgers, a soda, and a beer. Had we been told from the beginning that the sides were not included, we absolutely would not have ordered them. My husband went back to ask about the charge and was told that the sides did not come with those particular entrees. That directly contradicted what we had been told when ordering. Unfortunately, things got even worse when our food came out. Both burgers were cold, my burger was a double when I had specifically ordered a single, and both sauces were put on the side despite us clearly explaining our preferences. My husband didn't receive his burger the way he had specifically requested either. At that point, we hadn't even taken a bite. We brought everything back to the manager and explained what had happened. I do want to make one thing VERY clear: Kristen, the manager, was absolutely wonderful. She was by far the best part of this entire experience. She was incredibly kind, understanding, professional, and genuinely tried to make the situation right. She offered to remake the food and worked with us on the refund. We ultimately decided we didn't want the food anymore after everything that had happened and just wanted to leave. Kristen handled that respectfully and did everything she could to help us. Unfortunately, the problems didn't end when we left. We were told the refund would take 3-5 business days. When the refund finally came through, it was approximately $15 short of what we were supposed to receive. We then had to call the restaurant again to get the issue resolved. We were also still charged the tip, despite the fact that we had received a full refund for the food. The restaurant then had to take the money again, process another refund, and essentially redo the transaction, which meant an even longer wait for our money. At this point, what should have been a fun dinner that we drove nearly an hour for turned into an incredibly frustrating experience involving multiple billing issues, incorrect food, cold food, and several phone calls just to get the refund corrected. The only reason I am giving any credit at all is because of Kristen. She was genuinely amazing and I don't think this review reflects her management at all. She was the one person who made an otherwise terrible experience slightly better. Unfortunately, because of everything that happened before and after dealing with her, we will not be returning. If you're going to charge these prices, the ordering process, food, and billing need to be significantly more accurate and consistent.

Completely unnecessary and incredibly unprofessional. I told him to chill because the attitude was obvious. Instead of simply fixing the order, we were met with arrogance and hostility over a mistake that wasn't even ours. What makes it worse is that this attitude seems to come from the top. In my experiences here, the owner has also come across as cocky, dismissive, and like he has a chip on his shoulder. When ownership carries itself that way, it's not surprising when the staff starts treating customers the same way. As someone who actually grew up in San Marcos, it's disappointing to walk into a local business in my own hometown and be treated like I'm inconveniencing them by being there. I support local businesses and want to see San Marcos spots succeed, but basic respect and customer service should not be too much to ask. I had high hopes for a decent barbecue spot in San Marcos, but my experience at Dickey's was a massive disappointment from start to finish. For a place that specializes in slow-smoked meats, the execution was remarkably poor, and the environment was even worse. The Food The food was borderline inedible. I ordered the brisket, which was incredibly dry, tough, and lacked any of the smoky depth you'd expect. It felt like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for hours rather than coming off a smoker. The sides weren't any better--the mac and cheese was bland and watery, and the rolls were hard enough to be used as hockey pucks. The Atmosphere Beyond the food, the cleanliness of the restaurant was a serious concern. The tables were greasy, and the floors felt sticky. Worse yet, there was a lingering, chemical smell of wet paint throughout the dining area. Seeing actual paint chips scattered on the floor and near the seating areas is completely unacceptable for an establishment serving food. Well we gave them another try. Their food is still not kept warm enough for health department standards. I don't say this to be unkind but one day the health department will come a calling with their thermometers ready to roll. Good luck with that. But worse than the food was the appalling performance of their tall thin manager strutting through the place. The man chose to publicly humiliate his employee over nothing---right there in front of all of us. It was sadistic the way he went about this display. Repulsive. From the cruel behavior of their toxic manager I'd have to wonder if their name "Dickey's" is something more than just a name----might it be a confession? Their manager behaves precisely as you might expect a "dick" to do. read more

We ordered from their website for pickup as first timers. When we dropped by to get our food, it was very clean and cozy! There was a young gentleman behind the counter who greeted us so warmly as he buttered the heck out of some very lucky customer's sandwich. He grabbed our to-go order and sent us on our way! What a wonderful great employee - the owner should be proud they have such a stellar guy representing. The food itself: 10/10! Those ribs I WILL be back for! And they have their own BBQ sauce which is killer. That Texas toast, mac n cheese, beans, all amazing. All in all: fantastic spot, very convenient location, good vibes, great service, and amazing food. Will definitely be back again for ribs ribs ribs!!! read more

My wife loves fried okra and there are not many places in north county who serve it. It's a nostalgic treat for her plus really good barbecue for the family. Portions are good size, even the kids meals could fill up an adult. We have tried everything on the menu and nothing has disappointed us. The atmosphere is comfortable and clean. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Bathrooms are also very clean. It is definitely the best fast food barbecue you can find without the overcrowded 30 minute wait restaurant feel. read more

We often come here , The pork ribs were absolutely delicious. The meat fell off the bone. The sides were fresh and tasty. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We will definitely recommend Dickey's Barbecue Pit , This place was amazing, fast and delicious. Take your family and share the food. read more

When I walked in they were very friendly. Brisket and ribs were tender the ribs were sweet and spicy. I had mac & cheese and cabbage slaws my side really good. My dad had the chicken he loves chicken they did it right here. This restaurant is very clean. read more

Under new management! It is safe to say this place is in good hands. You're immediately greeted warmly by the manager and he knows his menu very well. Everything is fresh, but I was pleasantly surprised by the fries! Definitely give it a visit! read more

Well, sorry Dickey's, I tried. Its good, not great :( You are closer to home, but I keep making the extra drive to, we all know where (Phil for president!!!!). The free soft serve is really really cool, very nice, but not super delicious :) read more

Had to make a pit stop on the way to San Diego so we stopped at Dickeys. Ordered a two meat plate Sausage and Brisket with a roll baked potato casserole and baked beans. The food was amazing! read more
