Although the staff was nice enough, there was a lack of attentiveness overall. We ordered the XL pack and the additional 24 pieces of ribs and a kids meal. The XL pack was missing a side. There was maybe 1/4 pound of burnt ends even though it should have been a full pound. And there were only 18 pieces of ribs instead of 24 pieces. We also ordered via curbside pick up and the online tracking never updated so we had to go inside and pick it up ourselves. That wasn't too bad, but coming home and seeing all the missing food but that we spent $240 really wasn't the experience we were looking for especially since the restaurant only had a table of 2 that was dining in. read more

We're new to the area and thankfully missed the prior management or owner or whatever it was that warranted all of the bad reviews. We walked in and were immediately greeted by the new owner. It was a very warm and welcoming experience. Fortunately for us (not for him) it wasn't very crowded so we were able to visit and ask questions and learn about the restaurant's history and food. We ordered a few different plates with different sides so we got to try a handful of different things and different sauces. We enjoyed everything, some things more than others. I didn't see burnt ends on the menu but I did see the owner offer them to some customers to try and admittedly I was a bit jealous. We DID get both the chopped and sliced brisket so I'm not sure what we'd have to do to get a burnt end to try. In the end, we liked our dinner and will most likely come back to find our favorites. Dinner for 3 was over $70 with tip (and water to drink) so I'm not sure our budget will allow us to comeback more often. read more

We made that mistake previously.) The food menu had taped-on adjusted prices‍, and the ordering process at the register was a bad comedy show, and the confussed employees, the broken coke machine (after we ordered & no offer to uh I don't know REFUND our drinks), the disgusting weird "BBQ sauce self-serve warmer station", the watery tasteless mac n cheese, dry tri-tip, soggy Texas "toast", all for the low low cost of $75.00 for lunch. 3 hours later I'm finally feeling less nauseated just enough to type out this review to hopefully save you from having to go through this. read more

However when I got home and split up the food amongst my family, the fried okra was one large patty rather than individual okra pieces and was not cooked through. The remaining contents of the dinner were mediocre at best. Brisket and ribs were dry and portions were small. The potato salad was bland and the rolls tasted like take and bake rolls that were not baked. Went to visit CSUSM and stopped by for lunch. Decent size portions. About $20+ a person. We had the brisket, pork ribs, Mac and cheese, baked beans, onion rings and French fries. I enjoyed the brisket, husband was torn between the two but said if he had to choose, it would be the ribs. Some of the pieces were pretty fatty. Quite possibly the worst brisket I've ever had. It was extremely dry, tough, and bland. I had to refill my tiny water cup multiple times to choke down the 1/2 lb of "slices" which were really just big chunks. It was so dry that I felt I couldn't even add salt. Seemed like it had been just sitting out for a long time based on the oxidation on edges. The bark just tasted mostly like pepper, not smokey like you'd expect from wood smoked meat. Jalapeño cheddar sausage had decent flavor, but was room temperature, cheese wasn't melted in most pieces. Potentially could have been great if it had been served hot, although still overpriced. I can't believe they charge $33/lb for brisket, $24/lb for sausages, and then serve this low quality food. I'm not even sure Id eat here again for free. The place was pretty dead the whole time I ate, and now I can see why. The only positive thing I can say is the store was clean and service was adequate. If you actually love your family, take them to dinner somewhere else, anywhere, else. Also I'd be wary of 4&5 star reviews considering the sign at the register offering a free drink if you show the cashier you left a positive Yelp review, quite possibly in violation of Fair Trade Commision endorsement guidelines for reviews not mentioning they were compensated. read more

What I got was chopped dried out ends! I opened the container in store & the girl in charge said, "Sorry that's what we've got. It depends on what part of the brisket we're on." We were in San Marcos to pick up my package so my husband picked this spot for dinner. He is from Texas so he said there are a ton of these restaurants there. SERVICE - The staff here was very polite and friendly. Even though the restaurant was empty and they were closing in less than an hour, they were still very welcoming. FOOD Brisket - This tasted like leftover bbq. Pulled Pork - Tasted a little better than the brisket but it still tasted like it was leftover meat warmed. Jalapeño Sausage - This was okay. A little on the lukewarm side where the cheese in the sausage was not melted. Pork Ribs - This was stale and very dry. Corn on the Cob - Think steamed corn that has been sitting in water for hours. It was so mushy and had that cafeteria corn taste. Mac n Cheese - This tasted old and it was incredibly mushy. Cream of Spinach - Tasted spoiled. Hope we do not get food poisoning. Fried Okra - This was the only half decent item since they fried it when we ordered it. Bread Rolls - If you know me, I love bread. All things bread. This was so dry and stale. I did not even want my husband's roll because it was so bad. We were struggling to finish our food. The second we walked out of the restaurant, my husband turned to me and said "Give this place a 1.
