I've been buying prime rib roasts here for various holiday events for the past few years and each time has been great. Aside from the different cuts of meat, Dickman's also has delicious twice baked potatoes and stuffed mushrooms. They have other things I still need to try, such as sandwiches, but I've yet to order any. This last holiday, to save myself anxiety and FOMO, I called in to Dickman's to pre-order a rib roast. I believe I called in on a Friday for a pick-up the following Monday. As usual, there was a line, but it goes fairly quickly. I get up to the counter, give them my name for the reserved roast and add some green chile twice baked potatoes to the order. I walk over to the register, tell the cashier my name and what I'm buying; I pay and I'm outta there. Easy peasy. Wow! This place is a legendary carnivore haven! Not just your average Butcher Store, Dickman's has flare and personality to boot! Obviously they have great fresh meats, but they also have an entire wall of wild game meets and fishes, carefully packaged and frozen. Everything from the most bizarre gave me you could imagine to fresh raw dog food. They also have tons and tons of sauces and spices to make your grilling dreams, come, true, they have baskets full of fresh locally made sourdough breads, and today they even had some delicious looking fresh asparagus on ice right as you walked in they are known for their "ugly steaks" which are fantastic for throwing on the grill... Not pretty, but great marbling coupled with some fantastic seasonings and you have a home run grilled meal! read more

GET THE UGLY STEAKS! They are so tender and melt in your mouth. They were $17.99 a pound and worth every penny. Better than any steakhouse around. It was busy for Mothers Day weekend. Staff were friendly. They had samples of strudel from Viro's Italian Bakery which was a treat. The freezer wall had all kinds of exotic meat and a full fridge of German goods. Please read the entire review. Instead of changing it, I have left my first somewhat angry reaction and later I added the correction. If only they could properly train their staff. I bought some salads which were fine, tuna, ham, and slaw. Then I asked for a smoked turkey leg. She told me where to look. I brought it back and asked, "This is smoked, correct?" She assured me it was. "We only have smoked turkey legs. If it's in the case, it has been smoked." Later today I will bring the defrosted unsmoked, raw leg back. Of course, they won't refund. How can they with no price left on? Of course, they will say I should have known it wasn't smoked. And, of course, I will leave unhappy. So, be sure you ask at least two staff the same question before believing the answer and even then be prepared to be frustrated. I take it back. I received an apology and a refund. Meh. Ugly steaks are definitely worth a stop there to buy. Website says they close at 7 pm. I stopped in at 5:25 pm Thursday for 2 lbs of hamburger and 1 lb of Black Forest ham. Woman at deli gave a hard "NO" to slicing ham for me. If you want deli items after 5 pm, I recommend calling to make sure they are still accommodating otherwise, just go to Safeway on Ina and Oracle for deli meat. That's what I had to do. read more

Great butcher shop. I am from Wisconsin and while traveling in Tucson for work I went here to secure some food to cook at my hotel. Was surprised to find a shop with Wisconsin ties. Someone mentioned Dickmans and their 'ugly steak' and I've never been disappointed. This year I decided to buy the Ribeyes for Christmas eve and they had to be the most flavorful and tender steaks Ive ever had. I give good reviews where they're deserved. They deserve a GREAT review. Funny thing, is I waited to go to Dickmans on the 23'd and at noon. Probably, the worst time. I bought Ribeyes and ugly steaks. The Ribeye was about $20.00 each and the Ugly steaks were about $19.00/lbs. The line was literally (almost) out-the-door. Many, standing in line, had pre-orders and literally waited longer than I waited to pick up their orders. I still recommend pre-ordering to allow Dickmans the opportunity to have enough steaks for the people like me, that don't have the sense to pre-order. The meat is high quality and they cut it/tie it/trim it whatever you need. That's great. It gets one star knocked of because it's like a 3 ring circus. The head person at the counter is half asleep. Be careful doing business with Dickman's Meat and Deli! (This is not the first negative experience we've had BUT this one definitely tops them all!) Location: The Oracle location When this happened: September 22, 2024 around 2:15-2:30pm. To start, my husband was standing and waiting about 10 min. This business was NOT busy. My husband went to get some meat and there was 3 other customers waiting to be helped. There was 4 people working literally just standing and talking to each other not helping ANYONE. First older gentlemen that was first in line in front of my husband spoke up and said very loud and clear "hello, I need to be helped." The 4 workers turned around and looked at him and everyone waiting and then turned back around and kept talking amongst themselves. My husband spoke up right after that and said loud and clear "this gentlemen in front of me needs to be helped!" All 4 workers turn around and rudely said "we'll be with you in a moment!" And turned back around and kept talking again Older gentlemen again spoke up loud and clear and said "you guys are standing around not doing anything and yoh have a line of people waiting." 1 worker turned around and said "what do you need?" I enjoy the products at this store; however, the last two times I went the worker was not wearing gloves. He reached into the ground meat fingernails and all and then preceding with getting the other orders without watching his hands. The last time I went same thing almost at closing. A different work got my meats and wiped his dirty hands in his dirty apron. He also checked me out at the register, touching the register, bread and vegetables with the same dirty hands. The turkey was the best one I have ever roasted and its carcass is now simmering into the best turkey soup I've ever made. And I've been doing this for more than 70 years. The roast was trimmed, boneless, tied and ready to go when we picked it up. They also gave a few good tips on seasoning and use of a wonderful tool called a Meater Thermometer. My boyfriend got a goft card here for his birthday and we decided to go get some sandwiches and meat there yesterday. I didn't know what exactly to expect but I walked in and there was a very weird smell. The place itself is small with 4 little tables to eat at if you want to stay and eat your sandwiches. The lady who took our sandwich orders was very abrupt and definitely acted like she didn't want to be speaking to anyone. I ordered the sandwich of the day, Italian Sub and it said it came with a "side salad". To me a side salad means greens with a dressing or something. So I asked instead of a side salad to get a pasta salad. She rudely replied back that a side salad is a pasta salad. Um...okay? Then I asked if the hot cappy meat was spicy. She told me yeah that's what hot means. Lol. Last I checked hot is a temperature not a spice level. But whatever. So I asked to remove the hot cappy and pepperoncinis. My boyfriend had a rye bread sandwich with provolone and turkey. Unfortunately my sandwich bread was soaked in some sort of oil dressing which made it very soggy. I think the sandwich was also warmed and the meat edged were burned which tasted weird. The "side" pasta salad was good but came in a teeny tiny little cup...maybe 2 tablespoons worth of pasta salad. I only finished one half of the sandwich and threw the other half away. We also got some cheese curds which were decent, along with some frozen gyro meat. I love this small old school meat market. It's like stepping back in time. And I think it's so important to support local establishments like this in the community. We've been here three or four times now and the meat has always been excellent. We love the tri tip and sausage. It's definitely not the cheapest place in town. But I've always been satisfied with the quality of my purchases. The place always seems busy on the weekends. Sometimes they're a bit short with you as they attempt to move the line quickly. But I think that's just how they need to roll in order to speed customers along as quickly as possible. So don't take that personal if you patronize this establishment. I bought a Porterhouse today and took it home to grill. I grilled my steak and sat down to enjoy it but much to my dismay, there was a strong taste of rotten flesh - it was so strong I could not eat any of it. I went back and spoke with Cody who cut me a new Porterhouse. This one was a bit bigger and it actually cost about $10 more. I was planning on paying the extra $10 but Cody would not have it. He said he wanted to cover the inconvenience of my having to make a second trip. He apologized for the state of the first steak and without any questions, made it right. Customer service is hard to come by this day and age and I felt I got treated right and then some. Thanks Cody. read more
