Quite possibly the worst deli in town. Dirty floors and the rudest people behind to counter. Needed help finding something but the bearded guy, joking with others, wouldn't help. I came for the chili, it's hard finding good chili in Tucson, but I also got a half sandwich that was loaded and made well. I can't give too many points for the sandwich, it was all Boar's Head ingredients mostly, but it was good as was the bread. The chili was good. Went in yesterday to pick up Easter dinner. I arrived at 5:07pm and just as I opened the door I noticed the sign that said they closed at 5. I went in to find the whole crew cleaning up and everything was put away, as I started to turn around to leave one of the team asked what can we get you. I asked for 6 ugly steaks and he said give me like 3 min and I'll cut you some. WOW. this is the pinnacle of service everyone there was so helpful and not one looked like they cared to be there a little longer. Everyone was so positive and busy cleaning up. I have recently been introduced to Dickman's and especially their "ugly steaks". A friend told me about them. They also serve an ugly steak sandwich at Thirsty's Bar & Grill and that's where I first tried them. Oh so yummy and tender. I bought green chili cheddar brats for the hubby, his favorite. He also likes the green chili cheese twice baked potato. We have purchased Boar's Head meat from their deli. Their macaroni salad, potato salad and mac & cheese are the bomb! I have bought ground sirloin that was excellent. Those ugly steaks keep calling my name. They are pricey but oh so worth it. I have some for Christmas Eve dinner. It was quite crowded on Monday before Christmas but the staff stepped up and waited on people as fast as they could. They had a special of 10 lbs of ground beef for $30 so I bought that too. I made a meatloaf with some of it and it was delicious, super juicy and the best I have ever made. I'm a master at my meatloaf. The only con I can say is there is a lot of fat in the ground meat. Most people don't understand that is where the flavor comes from. Grass fed beef doesn't have that fat content that gives the incredible flavor. The staff has always been friendly and accommodating to me. My other complaint is their 4% credit card charge. People don't usually carry around a bucket of cash to buy meat and groceries. Their prices are plenty high enough and that should be included in the cost of doing business. I even tried to use my debit card because that is like cash and they would still charge that 4%, That stinks, so I just charged it. Everyone uses credit cards these days and this charging extra because of it is wrong. Adjust your prices accordingly as the cost of doing business and give cash customers a discount instead of hanging card customers with an overcharge. Other than that, I am a fan of Dickman's and when I am in the area, I will pop in for something. Everything is good. read more

Dickman's ruined our Easter with the grandchildren who drove for three days to spend the holiday week with us. We called several times ahead to order lean ground lamb to make Lebanese food (kibbe, grape leaves, etc.). The butcher spoke with my husband and guaranteed it would be 99% lean meat. The meat they sold us was just the opposite. In 40 years of making Lebanese cuisine we have never seen such fatty ground lamb ever. It was as if they made the opposite order - all fat - because we did not have the time, I was stuck using it but the food was inedible; so greasy we could not eat it. We called the next day and were told essentially told "nothing we can do about it." HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. We will NEVER go back there. read more

Update from my last review... I can no longer have bread so I haven't been coming here for sandwiches anymore... but for ugly steaks. My one and really only complaint, is that they do not have grass fed, organic or anything like that. I assume most of their meat still uses hormones and antibiotics as well, since they don't say otherwise. It can be hard to find good steaks. And their ugly steaks are always fresh, gorgeous cherry red. They are popular, so they go through them... but some of their other meat you can see has been there awhile and pretty brown and kind of gross. The guys are always super friendly and very helpful. 5 star for them all the way, they'll probably make you laugh too. read more

Really bad experience this week. We've used Dickmans for huge meat orders for over 20 years for our company BBQs. We ordered 35lbs of skirt steak for Carne Asada. Picked up the bags, brought them home before the party. We would grill it. What Dickmans provided us with for $335 was scraps (too small to grill!) from all of their other meats in marinade. When calling them to get it straightened out,Zachary told us the manager would call us. He did not. When we called back and asked for the manager, my husband was hung up on. We won't use them for our parties again. We have 40 people to feed and a much harder preparation than we would have had if we'd gone to Houghton Meat Market. Mary B. read more

So glad that they have a location on the east side since I had to move here. This location is every bit as good as their Oracle, Orange Grove location. The best thing for our family is getting their frozen hamburger for cheap in 1 lbs. units, 20 lbs. for the special price of $40. Can't beat that. And really, it IS the best hamburger meat in town that you will get. I also had their ugly steaks which are legendary. Also, if you want exotic meat, this is the place to come. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Update: Thanksgiving was just around the corner. So in addition to my regular order from Dickman's, I needed to talk turkey. Even though we would be a tiny gathering of two, I wanted to feel as normal as possible; so opted for a fresh turkey breast. I could get it with or without bones and/or skin. I chose boneless with skin. The turkey was butchered as I requested and packed with the rest of my order. Just as before, I enjoyed curbside delivery. Everything was wrapped and labeled and placed in the back of my car. I prepared the turkey breast a la Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa. It was juicy and flavorful and so easy to carve; just perfect. I'm so happy to have beautiful slices left over for sandwiches. Dickman's comes through again. (I included a pic of my pie. Okay, first: I'm so happy I learned about this meat market a year ago when I moved here by the locals! The "Ugly" steaks are worth ALL THE HYPE! I make a point of grabbing fresh steaks each time family or friends visit from out of state and every single person loves them! They even request them on return visits! This market has many more meats, seafood, fresh deli (Boar's Head), and so much more! You have to try their twice baked potatoes, too! YUMMY!! The guys here are very friendly and helpful, too. We go to dickmans mainly for three things - ugly steaks, sausage and once a year, we get a whole pig for our annual pig roast. Today we picked up the pig. A 50 pounder, gutted with head on. They had it nice and clean for us, although unfortunately they no longer crack the ribs. You only need to order a few days out, which is great since it gives you time to get a pretty accurate head count so you order right size. While they couldn't give me the innards (best friends mom is from Philippines and says she has numerous dishes to make with pig innards) they did make sure to tell me it could all be bought from their freezers, which are fully stocked with every type of animal and cut of their meat that you could imagine. As many other negative reviews mentioned, I am surprised that this place gets good review. I went there for the deli. When you enter the place, you can smell the unpleasant odor of fatty old meat hanging around. As for the deli, the meat is not fresh, bread is low-quality and old. I'd recommend just go to any grocery store and arrange your own deli for a lower price and a higher quality. The staff there are very nice, and that's what the star is for. I have used Dickman's for years when I have needed a steak or sausages to host friends or visiting family members. This place takes pride in their meat cutting. I have my favorite cut and that is their "ugly streaks". They are ugly but they are perfect to throw on the grill and they accept an overnight marinade very well.
