Dropped my vehicle off on a Monday to have an ignition issue analyzed. Was told it wouldn't be looked at till Wednesday. Fine. No call Wednesday. No call Thursday. Friday morning I call them, and am told (and this is a verbatim quote), "No one here is really interested in looking at your truck." Just like that. Totally deadpan. I give the guy 10 points for his Tourette's level honesty, but subtract 10 points for being just a basic asshole. Quite apart from the above, these guys are basically just miserable. There's always a bad vibe in the office, and they're some of the most unfriendly people I've ever encountered. I'm happy for those who have enjoyed good service here, but I will never return, and I would never recommend. read more

We were traveling from Florida to CT for a summer vacation when my air conditioning in my Ford Edge stopped blowing cold air. I was told at one repair shop that the condenser was bad but they did not have time to repair it. I called Dick's Auto and the service from Jay was great. He also said the condenser needed to be replaced and he replaced it and had me back on the road the next day. I've brought my car here a few times and they do an excellent job! They're quick and efficient and so convenient. I'm a student at UConn so after dropping my car I often walk back to campus, so my day isn't too disturbed and it's also not wasted waiting around the shop. The only reason why I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because they are rather pricey, but they do a good job so it's arguably justifiable. I would recommend this shop to a friend but just be prepared when receiving the bill. read more

My husband has been having issues with his check engine light staying on and his car misfiring and losing power for the better part of the past year. I highly recommend Dicks Auto. I had been taking my car to Pep Boys in Manchester due to their name and sometimes specials but I was super impressed with their service. They were very quick. They don't have the huge bays that bigger shops have and they don't overbook. I had a check engine light on and they were very good about fixing the problem. Labor is cheap compared to other places. My husband and I have been to Dicks Auto Care twice. My husband brought our truck there to have a rim changed on one tire. They were quick and did a great job at a very fair price. The second time my brake light came on while I was on the road, it was raining so I stopped in to ask for help. The guy actually put down his lunch and came out in the rain just to help me! He discovered that my brake fluid was low, and topped it off for me with his own fluid at no charge (although I offered to pay him). He warned me that I probably had a leak in the brake line, and told me to be careful, he seemed honestly concerned. I explained I didn't have far to go and would be very careful. (He was right, I did have a leak but that was something we were able to fix at home). I'm glad to see that there are still people out there who care more about the safety of others than about making money! When you need a mechanic, you need someone you can trust. Your safety and your ability to get places is dependent on their knowledge and honesty. I highly recommend this place, and when we need a mechanic, this is where I will go in the future! read more

Not only did he change my oil but he checked Everything!! Tires, lights,.. He explained everything in detail and for someone like me who doesn't know much about cars helped me alot! Great customer service. The staff is friendly and easy to approach. The place really does have that old-time-feel. Brought the car in on a Thursday morning because it wouldn't start and had no idea what the problem was. Less than 2 hours later, the problem was diagnosed; it was the alternator. They presented me with a plan of action and their recommendation, but they were in no way pushy about it. They gave me a quote, which ended up being more expensive than what they ended up charging me. The car was ready to be picked up within a few hours of the diagnosis. As a college student, they could' have taken advantage of the fact that they were so close to campus, but they did not. Very trust-worthy people. read more

Put a broken ignition coil in my car that further damaged my car and cost even more money. Damaged my spark plug, car wouldn't start so also had to pay for a tow. Additionally, they missed more damage that also got worse with time. I was told everything was fine, but it clearly wasn't. I went because it was so high rated, but honestly regretted it. read more

Second time here and even more impressed than the first time! First time I went in to have brakes looked at...they said that I should do one set however the other set still had up to 6 months left so I could wait on those if I wanted. Most garages would have just done both. Went back about 4 months later to get the other set of brakes done and to diagnose a noise and replace a hose. Was told again that the brakes still looked good, check again in 15K miles or so. AGAIN not trying to just sell me a brake job. They had to order parts and were very conscience of my time and worked out a schedule with me. Fixed the noise, made sure it was gone (had to replace another part to do it) and stayed within the estimate and time table! I highly recommend them! read more

Never ever go to Dicks Auto. They charge you more than anybody else does. They take the advantage of being close to the campus. They will charge you labor cost just to tell you even a simple problem. I never had such a bad experience. They expect you to make a decision right away and leave your car there so that they can charge you more labor cost. Never leave your car with them. I would call them cheater (Specially Michael). Michael will try to be nice but do not listen to him and get into his trap and get out of there as soon as you can. He will anyway end up giving you a bill for nothing. read more

The first time i went here it was for something as simple as needing air for my tires, the older gentleman that helped me was so nice and pleasant. He not only air my tires but gave me advise on needing them changed and why, that was very helpful. So next time i had trouble to my car i went back to them. This time however, i was seen by a different guy, someone, not as old as the first gentleman (54+) i had dealt with, mid 30-40s. This guy was so rude and unprofessional, like he could care less on whether i was a customer there or not and to be honest it seemed more like he wished i was given him any extra work than what he already had. when i spoke to this gentleman over the phone he hung up on me 3 times!. I asked for his name to report him to his employer and he refused to give me his name saying he can't give out personal information and hung up on me...again! i would not recommend this business to anyone, well not if you would like good customer service and to be treated with respect. Needless to say i went somewhere else for my repairs. read more
