Haircut is only 20$ (before tip). Had a guy named Francisco . Very chill. Quiet. Simple. First time I'd gone here. Had to get a haircut in a rush because I was goin on a date and it was first thing in a Saturday morning. Made a risk going somewhere I'd never gone before. Showed the barber a picture of what I'd want it to be. Wait was about 30 minutes. Only 2 barbers. Decent haircut, with a nice single razor to clean the neck and around the ears. Lil hot towel action to warm the soul. Then had a electric massager that I'd never seen before. Went through both my shoulders and felt nice and relaxing. Haircut.... My expectations weren't super high. Thankfully. Overall, got a haircut. That's all I can say. Left my hair a little too long in the front. Went home and thinned it a tad, but overall, I'd say I'm thankful . That's why I give this a 4 and not 5 stars. My date said I looked better than my photos. It's been years since I went to Dicks since I actually go to Ricks down the street. All I can say is the quality is still pretty good. I used to go to Dicks sometime 2014-2015 and what I've noticed is it really didn't change much other than the price. Quick details When it comes to quality it really depends on which barber you get. If you want to get a fairly fast and quick cut. It will be in the first chair you walk in and with an older gentleman. Thankfully I got my haircut from the gentleman working in the second chair and my haircut took about 45 minutes which is actually great. He took his time and looked to make sure every single detail of the 'styles' haircut was in check. I give him a 5/5 for attention to detail and quality. The cost of the haircut was $30 for styles (skin fade and thin out top). 2014 price was $20 to now $30 ($10 increase) which is pretty good. Interior is still the same. White walls, mirrors, wooden chairs and church ads in the front. When it comes to times and busy-ness. I came at 12:10pm and left at 12:55-1pm. And throughout the haircut it was fairly slow. All barbers were cutting hair but no one sitting waiting for a cut. I'm pretty sure it different during Mondays or Fridays and early times of 8am as well. All in all Dick Int, is a good barbershop for those who don't want to spend $50+ for a haircut, fine with going to a barbershop that does not do appointments, and is cash only. read more

Boy this place has gone downhill in the past year. I should have looked at all the photos here on Yelp, where everyone has short hair. I have longer hair and asked for a "trim." I said, twice, "cut off three quarters of an inch." Once in the chair, the barber made several quick snips that removed about 2-3 inches. I said, "This is not what I asked for!" He said, "What did you want?" I said, "Take off about three quarters of an inch." He said, "Oh!" like this was the first time he heard it. It will take 2-3 months for my hair to grow back. Worst! Haircut! Ever! Sheesh. I think they know how to do the 5 most popular haircuts and insist on giving you one of those, regardless of what you ask for. I come here every few years when my regular barber is out of town and each time I wonder why I bother coming back. I asked for a mid 2 fade and got a "2" without any sort of fade. He only did one pass with the clippers so you can imagine how many long hairs and patches there were. The cherry on top is that he raised my neckline 1/2" higher than normal and cut it in a straight line across that made the whole cut look worse than the most amateur Covid cuts. Additional minus points for having the mirror across the room so I couldn't see how bad the damage was until I got home. Housemate spent 1.5 hours afterwards to get me to a point where I could finally step out of the house again. Stop being cheap and go to a real barbershop! read more

Finally SF barbershops allowed to reopen! The prices have increased slightly since before COVID, but that's to be expected. Sorry I forgot to take a photo but I believe these are the current prices for a cut: Styles $21, regular $18, and seniors $17. Imo these are still very competitive prices when compared to others in the Bay. When I went on a Friday afternoon (9/25), there was no line (which is surprising if you've ever been here) so I assume most people are still unaware that they're open. I've been a customer for probably 10+ years now and the quality of the cuts have always been consistent. Usually the only "con" is having to wait as they don't operate on a reservation basis. But they're a great local barbershop and for the above prices you get a decent fade or trim, straight edge razor lineup, and a massage at the end via a handheld device lmao. Anyway come get a haircut before they get busy again. Wear your mask. And be sure to give em a nice tip! read more

I took my husband there for a haircut and a shave, because we had an event to attend the next day. Even though the haircut turned out decent, the shave was a disaster. I'm not convinced his barber has ever done this procedure before. He started by using the clipper machine on my husband's face for the reason I am still not sure of. Then he used a disposable two-blade razor, and the razor did not seem new. My husband said the blade felt dull. To make the matters worse, he was dragging that questionable razor against the grain as my husband winced with discomfort. I know I should have intervened right there and then, but I was telling myself that maybe I don't know enough about shaving. He barely used enough shaving cream. When he proceeded with the straight razor that may or may not have been properly sanitized. He did a very spotty job, as he missed a lot of areas on his face and neck. When they were done, my husbands face looked so ashy, as if someone used a gardening rake on it. The barber did not even offer an aftershave or a moisturizer. Not even a warm towel to soften his skin. I ended up re-doing his shave at home so that we could attend the event the next day. TL;DR: avoid the chair by the window. Questionable sanitation. It depends on the barber you get. There's one barber there I try to avoid (he has the chair at the front of the shop, typically). He doesn't do a thorough job, is sloppy around the top, and takes about 1/2 the time the other barbers do. Just avoid him at all costs (unless you're in a rush and don't care about what your haircut looks like), wait for one of the other barbers, and it's worth the cost. Or go to Rick's (2 blocks west). read more

Best barbers ever. I've been coming here for over 10 years and typically my weekly spot. They don't take appointments and is a more old school barber shop feel. Sometimes the wait can be long but it's not like they pump out identical cuts. They are truly all personalized, customized, and tailor made for the customer. They give you a nice clean old school razer shave with a massaging finish with warm towels. It's truly a great experience. I love you guys! See you soon. read more

I don't know how this place has so many high reviews. I'll start with the good qualities about this place. They are one of the cheapest places in SF charging around 22 for a fade, and cut pretty quickly (15-20 mins). They also only do walk-ins, so keep that in mind. Average wait time is 35 mins on weekends. The cons, they've messed up my hair at least 3 times. I still kept coming back because sometimes they do a really good job. So overall this place is a hit or miss depending on your barber. The younger man will do a better job, but everyone wants him so the wait is even longer. This barbershop is cool for older people that like basic cuts and scissor cuts. Like clipper cuts (#2 on sides and half a inch off top). This barber shop is good for like shaving the entire head clean. Basic haircuts you know. No designs, no comb overs. No lineups. No fades. No tapers All of the Barbers here, the four of them, cannot fade or taper correctly. A correct fade has NO visible lines. I've been coming here on and off for about 10 years. Since high school. Dicks barbershop is my go to Emergency barber shop. When Fresh Cuts or Black and Gold are fully booked. Usually Dick's gives me bloody/crooked lineups or fades with lines. Ugh Yes, the barbers are fast. But quality of haircuts is unsatisfactory. They need to raise the price of haircuts and stop doing cheap walk ins. Cheap haircuts aren't good and Good haircuts aren't cheap. In order to appeal to younger customers, they NEED to raise the price and take appointments. For serious customers that don't have time to wait an hour for a haircut. I also hate when they "take lunch" at random times. You drive there and they say "oh we're taking lunch" What a big headache. Some places hide their mediocre skills with vegan salads and La Croix in the fridge Then, I found Dick's... An Old School no thrills Barbershop. This has been the only place in the City that hasn't butchered my weird shaped head. The young guy in that back is hella fresh with the clippers and the attention to detail is clutch. I feel guilty cheating on my hometown barber with Dick's (pun intended). The price is phenomenal and the you are getting more that what you pay for. We had family portraits scheduled for later in the week and I went to Sunset Barbers to get my 5yo son a haircut but there was a 2 hour wait. We were in a pinch so I went to Dick's Int'l based on the reviews. I showed this guy three different pictures, two of which were actual pics of my kid after his last haircut. He said okay and then basically closed his eyes and wished for the best. He butchered the kid. Now my wife hates me, my kid looks like Lloyd from Dumb n Dumber, and I can't even get my own haircut because we're no longer allowed to even talk about haircuts in our house. I can't even say the word "haircut" without my wife calling a divorce lawyer. I tried to convince her that it wasn't that bad, but eventually had to admit to her and to myself that this was a horrible haircut. Next time I'll wait the 2 hours at Sunset Barbers. Walked in, asked for a face and head razor shave. The barber took clippers and ran them over my face and head quite briskly, like he was in a hurry. Afterward, he took the draped cloth away to let me out of the chair. I explained again that I wanted a razor shave for my face and head. So, he put the apron back in and proceeded. However, he was using what looked like a disposable razor, and he raced over my head and face. When he finished and asked if I wanted aftershave, I declined. I just wanted to get out of there, so I paid and left. As I walked, I ran my hands over my head and face, and I could feel rows and tufts of hair that had been entirely missed. I checked my watch, and I saw that I'd been in there only 20 minutes. After my barber of over ten years died about a year ago I've received a series of haircuts that have ranged from "meh" to "Damn, you gave me a haircut like I just stole your bike!" Needless to say I have been less than impressed and have yet to truly put my trust in a new barber. I have several prerequisites in a barber: 1) They should be cheap. I get haircuts fairly regularly and I'm really not stoked on having to shell out more than $20 a pop. Add to that the fact that I'm half Chinese and that's all you really need to know. 2) They should be fairly quick. I don't have what I consider to be a terribly complex haircut. A pair of clippers in the hands of a trained professional should take no longer than 20 minutes. (Although cutting hair is harder than you think. I recently gave The Kid a haircut and let's just say I have a newfound respect for inventions like the Flobie.) I don't want to be fussed with and for God's sake don't try to style my hair at the end because you're just going to make me look like a douchebag. 3) Don't make me look like a douchebag. Fulfilling #1 is easy enough but #2 and #3, well, not so much. Dick's is in my neighborhood and since my past experiences have significantly lowered my expectations I felt as if I had nothing to lose. The shop itself is unassuming with just the right amount of grunge to give it character without making it seem grubby. The chairs provided for waiting are large and comfortable and the selection of magazines cover a range of interests from cycling and gardening to titties and gaping genitalia. I sat in the chair and after a brief discussion of what I wanted the dude just started cutting. With minimal direction from me and absolutely no chit chat the hair cutting portion was done in about ten minutes. CHA-CHING! Warm cream and a straight razor were used to clean up the sides and back. Personally, this is one of the best feeling things another man can do to me and it's a practice even my old barber abandoned long ago. Bonus! However, at the end he pulled out this vibrating contraption that I had only seen in "Magnum Force" when Dirty Harry is in that skeezy massage parlor. "Oh shit! He's not going to give me a handjob is he?" I thought to myself. When he attached it to his hand I was hoping he was going to club me in the back of the head with it but instead gave me a rather unenthusiastic thirty second neck and shoulder massage with the vibrating massager set to "Shake the FUCK out of this fool." All homophobia aside, although I thought this was a nice touch I found it kind of gratuitous and awkward. So despite the bit of weirdness at the end I think Dick's might be my new spot. Can't say why. Maybe he should spend more time with the porn they have here hidden amongst the issues Outside and National Geographic Travel. 10 mins for a cut, tops. It's all business. No chit chatty yaddayadayada. Plus watchiung yourself in the mirror while someone cuts your hair ad you talk to them just feels weird. That 10 mins includes the hot cream shave with a straight razor, and the straight-outta-the-50s massage with the hand sander. Plus all the Energy 97.5 (or whatever it is) you can stand while you wait. Going at lunch can be tricky -- they take an hour at 1230ish, but that's a moving target. Asked for low bald fade transitioning to a 1. Was very specific with what we wanted. What we got was a same length clipper cut all around with no fade and no line up in the front. He (the old barber by the front window) also raised my sons part by almost an inch! My poor teenage son was about to cry afterwards. Pictures show what he got. Will never come back. Not sure how so many folks have given such good reviews. A picture is worth a thousand words in this case. My son is very particular about his hair as most teenagers are and he will now have to grow this out for the next few months to correct the mistakes. Was trying to avoid paying $40 and try this place based on reviews and the $18 price. In this case we unfortunately got what we paid for. If your not to picky about your cut and just want a cheap cut that's not too detailed then this may be the spot for you. Could have done this at home with not own clippers. read more
