Two stars off for a pretty bad experience today but three stars for the owner, Jenny, her kindness and artistry. Jenny did a beautiful job on my daughter's nails in early July, gel-x. A very tasteful, custom design for an 11 y.o. They lasted almost 4 weeks but finally time to take them off. We made an appt for 2:30 today and due to Jenny not getting the message we had to wait about 30-40 minutes. Not the biggest deal, really nice out and our favorite boba spot just a few blocks down Polk St. When we got back the other woman in the shop started taking off the gels, they were taking a while to saturate enough to fully remove so the cotton with acetone and foil had to stay on longer. My daughter's fingers started burning and when we let them know, Jenny prompted the other woman to take a look. Not ready yet so while the owner was finishing up with another client this other woman needed to take care of it. At one point a customer had to ask this other woman to help my daughter, that she would kindly wait. It took over an hour to remove and clean up her nails, no manicure after. Two hours later my daughter's poor fingers are still burning. Jenny was quite apologetic and adjusted the price as a courtesy. We love Jenny but maybe she needs some more support in her shop. read more

Really nice salon and my nails are always gorgeous but a few downsides here. 1. Every time I've made an appointment and shown up, 2-3 people will work on my nails in one session. They tend to switch off a ton and it's just kind of weird having to explain to many people what I want. 2. A refill for Gel-X has consistently been a 2.5+ hour long appointment. I think it's because of all of the switching off, there's so much repetitive filing. 3. I've never had a set of Gel-X last more than a few days without at least one falling off. I once left the salon and the thumb came clean off within 20 minutes and then I had to wait for almost 45 for them to glue it back on again. Another nail popped off within a day. I really wanted to like this place but can't come back, it's very inconsistent and honestly just a waste of money if I have to keep getting my nails redone before 2 weeks. read more

I used to love coming here, especially for Gel-X with Jenny because she really is the best. But the last few times I've made an appointment specifically with her, I haven't even been seen by her. Even with an appointment, I end up waiting 20-30 minutes, sometimes longer. What's more frustrating is I booked Gel-X and still got pushed into getting regular gel because Jenny wasn't available, even though the appointment was supposed to be with her. I completely understand she's popular, but it's disappointing to make an appointment for a specific service and technician and not receive either. Sad to say I'll have to look for a new spot, because I can't seem to actually get the appointment I came for anymore. read more

First time customer, and Jenny was so patient and kind! I went here with a friend and although we booked appointments, there were several walk ins at the same time, so the place was super busy. They only had two techs working, so they ended up handling multiple customers at once. It took a lot longer to get our nails done, and Jenny had to stay 2 hours past closing to accommodate us, but she did a fantastic job!! She's amazing at doing detailed designs and is clearly very experienced. I had to pivot from my original design but she was really skilled and I honestly let her have full reign of the new design, but they turned out beautiful. She put a ton of detail into making sure my nails were perfect to the very last minute. FYI a gel manicure with design and gems/pearls (self provided) was $65 pre tip, which is more than they list on the site. They prefer cash but venmo is also accepted. Very peaceful vibe inside, with a restroom and water provided. They don't rush you at all which is nice :) read more

I got a mani-pedi: gel pedicure and gel extension manicure with design. The staff is all very kind, attentive, and good at what they do. They took time on the pedicure and I got to relax with water and a massaging chair. I really, really wanted to love this salon. I had been here three times and was (per other reviews) incredibly impressed by Jenny. The salon is clean and her attention to detail is wonderful. Unfortunately I had gel-X nails applied by another technician, right before a month of back to back trips. After two days, one of the gel-X nails had fallen off, so I returned to the salon, and for $5 they reapplied the nail that had fallen off. I was a little surprised that it was their mistake and I was charged, but happy with the nails otherwise so paid without question. A couple of days into my trip (4 days after getting the gel-x initially applied) 2 more nails fell off - and one nail had ripped underneath (due to not being glued on properly) causing immense pain. I texted the salon to let them know and they said for $25 I could return when I was back from my trip and fix the 3 nails. The owner knows I have been back a few times and I wasn't just a one off client, although was very happy to price gauge. For that reason, I simply cannot recommend the salon. read more

Yesterday after work, I was in desperate need of a fresh gel manicure. Half of my nail polish was gone because I started picking at it. I hopped off the bus, went to the nail salon I previously went to and they were fully booked. I walked and checked with two other salons...fully booked. I pulled out my cellphone to look for nail salons within walking distance and called four more salons...fully booked. I tried one more, Tootsie Toes, that was just a couple blocks further than I really wanted to go and they had availability. The person on the phone was very welcoming. When I arrived, there were no patrons so I was able to get my nail work straight away. I got a gel manicure and a regular pedicure. I feel so lucky that the other salons didn't work out because Jenny did an amazing job on my gel manicure. The last salon, my gel polish was super thick and made my nails look puffy. I had an impressive first experience here with Jenny. She was very careful with her work and took the time to double check the shape of my nail and make sure that it was to my liking. Jenny reassured me she wanted me to be happy with the shape to match the picture she showed me. Trimming the cuticles makes me very nervous because I've been cut numerous times at other nail salons but she didn't rush through the process. I walked in to Tootsie Toes having never been there before, and made an appointment for an hour later to come back for a pedicure and a gel extension. Again, having never been there I was just hoping for the best and going off reviews. Jenny and the others did an amazing job! My pedicure was great and they were very detailed and perfectionist which is so important when doing nails. Then, the gel extension nails looked beyond. I have never gotten them before, and was worried it wouldn't look clean, as sometimes gel can be applied too thick and peel, etc. But definitely not here. Jenny did them and she was so painstaking about it and made sure they looked perfect. She didn't like the way 2 is the nails looked once she started applying gel so she wiped it off and did it again- I didn't even notice what was wrong with them. I came in for a gel x manicure and it was great! I easily booked an appointment on their website for the next day. The salon is clean and quiet. I was able to find 2hr free street parking a block away. It cost $70 for the extension manicure + $10 for the cat eye design I added. It took almost 2 hrs, but they definitely paid very close attention to my nails to ensure that they looked natural and clean. She let me know that if anything happens in the next 2 weeks with my nails that they would repair them for free! And after the 2 weeks, it's $10 per nail if any fall off. They definitely prefer cash, I used the ATM but the owner kindly covered the ATM fee for me since she preferred cash over my card. Would come again! read more

Perfect nails every time!! I've never left this salon unsatisfied with my nails. From filing to painting, it's proven that the nail technicians here are skilled and are meticulous to details. Also a huge bonus that they have massage chairs :) The only real downside to this place is the lack of nail technicians. There's only really two technicians so expect to wait even though you made an appointment. The best time to go is probably in the morning before noon. This is a post that's been a long time coming, but I was trying to give them a chance. I want to start off by saying that yes, tootsie does an exceptional job as they are very thorough, but the amount of time they make me wait is outrageous. I've gone to them let's say about 7 times in the past year and if I'm getting a gel mani and regular pedi I'll be waiting 2+ hours. If I'm only getting a gel mani, I've waited an hour and a half. The reason why I have an issue with this is that I'll have a set appt, they'll sit me down but they won't start working on me until 45 mins in. Jenny is good at what she does, but she overbooks, accepts walk-ins when she's packed and doesn't let anyone else work on designs therefore she is making everyone wait for her. If you don't feel that your staff is up to par, it's time to find other people. Which I'll say that the other staff do a good job, are kind and patient. I recently went and waited 3 hours for a mani pedi! 3 hours, that's ridiculous. First off, I had an appt. When I got there, there were two people getting their nails done. One of the girls left, two other girls came in after me, they got gel mani, pedicure and regular mani, they left and I still didn't have nail polish on either my feet or hands. She apologizes time and time again but my time is valuable and I can't keep wasting my time this way. read more
