I came here after checking the online inventory. I found the section the item was located, but couldn't find the specific item. I could hardly find an employee to help me find the item. Then when I was checking out the employee was texting the whole time not that it was a big deal- I just thought it was a bit unprofessional. read more

I can only give it three stars, they do have a large selection of everything it seems, very low staffed, but if your looking for a specific thing they carry I would call ahead and check inventory. Don't rely on that app to believe it's in stock. Overall they care a lot of the same stuff as rei particular in shoes. Any hoo they aren't that bad but don't expect a lot of hands on service, check they out on line first and compare and maybe you'll have to order it and you'll probably save some cash. For example, looking for new hiking boots , Keen,Merrill, Vasgue. Rei sells them, redwing , dicks, and a few other places so I check on line get a better deal at dicks but they don't have in stock, I can wait tell days, I order and what do you know I saved $40 read more

I 100% agree with Chris G. If you know exactly what you need and don't need/want help, Dick's is the place for you. However, I disagree that this alone merits a 2-star rating. I found what I needed, in the size that I needed, didn't wait too long in line, and used a coupon that Dick's sent me after my last purchase, earning double points on their rewards card. read more

I'm not a big fan of Dick's. I think they're overpriced and their snotty little clerks are too busy trying to act hip and cute instead of focusing on what the customer wants. And some of those clerks don't know squat about certain aspects of sporting goods I think are just basic. And if you don't know something, just say, "I'm sorry, I don't know the answer to that. Let me go find out." Is that too much to ask? Well, apparently it is which is why I avoid this chain like the plague. Only came here to get Royals gear after World Series. Total disarray. I guess they figured, they were going to make their money any which way so why organize the checkouts? read more

This was the absolute worst customer service I have ever seen. The store does not carry the same new inventory other as the locations. I felt like a hassle when I finally found a store associate to talk to. I will suggest that anyone reading this, do as I do and drive the extra distance to Leawood or Olathe and avoid this horrible example of a sporting goods store. I will NEVER return to this store again until they get employees who can have manners and appreciate their customers. read more

If you know exactly what you want, and need NO help whatsoever, this is the place for you! However, if you come in expecting assistance beyond helping you FIND something, forget it. I tried on 2 different kinds of running shoes, and wasn't satisfied. I asked for different sizes, which were brought to me. When I asked for his assistance on selecting the proper running shoe, he told me 'they are all good'. Not exactly. The 2 brands I own obviously aren't working for 'me'. So, they can get you a pair of shoes, but can't tell you a lick about them. Off to the 'fitness' department. It seemed very 'dark' over in this area. I tried out an elliptical, but it wasn't working properly. When I asked for assistance, as well as having a couple of questions regarding the ellipticals, he could only tell me exactly what I could read on the signs above them. Not only that, the one that I did like, was assembled VERY shoddily,or else it was a high priced piece of junk (I'm pretty sure it was the assembly). Really, the only reasons this place didn't get ONE star were because of the selection (select yourself, obviously), and there were plenty of employees. They weren't assisting customers, but they were available. Two at the door, one in the aisle, one in fitness, and one in shoes. read more

Took my daughter to buy some sneakers & there was only 1 guy working the section. After waiting a while, we got a pair out to us. They were too tight so I wanted her to try another pair on. Hands down WORST customer service. Went in today to look for shoes with my boyfriend...he found a pair that he wanted to try on, he pushed the button to call for an associate to help. A guy comes over and asks him what size and which pair, returns with a box and immediately walks away. He gave him the wrong style of shoe...being off put by the fact the associate walked away so quickly without ensuring the correct product had been given, we noticed that there was an associate in the area scrolling through her phone "helping" another customer so we tried asking her for help. Upon being approached, she instantly seems bothered and barely looks up from her phone to offer any of help and responds rudely and is abrasively short. If she was busy, she could've offered to get someone else. We decided not to spend the $100 at the poorly managed store. read more

I was very disappointed in the fact that I ordered shoes and they didn't tell me they were out of stock until the day they were supposed to come. That being said, Shi, a worker there, was on the phone doing everything in her power to get me my shoes and I want to say props to her. If you're reading this Dicks, give her a raise! read more

This place is the absolute worst. First off, their selection is terrible. Always out of whatever you need. Secondly, their customer service is horrendous. I made a purchase at another store, went to return it here, and they refused to accept it. The way they handled the situation was unprofessional. I will not be returning here again. i purchased $400.00 worth of shoes online from dicks. i received my purchase in a timely manner, however one of the pair of shoes $99.00 was sent with a size eight and a size 7.5 . as a nurse i purchase a lot of shoes and know my shoe size i fit my shoes snug for support and the 7.5 didnt fit. i dont like to return stuff and knowing my shoe size i shouldnt have to so from now on i will never spend another dollar with this establishment. read more

Ordered some things online to pickup at this store. When I went to pickup the order they didn't have it. I decided not to re order and the manger said they would cancel the order. Two days later they charged my credit card as if I had picked up the order. Called today and the manager was clueless on how to refund me. Says he needs to email someone and will call me back. The worst service in the world. I would never shop or even walk into another Dick's. Name's right for the type of business operation run there. Purchased a Yakima Skybox auto roof carrier in December, 2006. It was used a few times for ski trips. This past January, 2008 while in route to Colorado almost from miles from Kansas City the lid came open and was damaged. Thinking after having the roof carrier for over a year that the problem was mine. I contacted Yakima about purchasing a replacement lid that I could put onto the bottom part of the carrier. I speak with the Yakima Service Rep and explained what had occurred and that I wanted to buy a new lid for the carrier. The Yakima Service Rep asked a few questions and then informed me that the carrier was under warranty and would be replaced. He told me to go back to where the carrier was purchased and bring in the proof on purchase receipt and the damaged carrier. Tell them what had happened and have them call us (Yakima) so that we can authorize a replacement. The Yakima Rep gives me his name and contact number and says this will solve the problem. So I go to Dick's Sporting Goods #119 in Merriam, Kansas 50 + miles from my home with sales receipt and Yakima phone number in hand. I speak with sales person who calls someone and then I'm told by this sales person that they will have to check on this and that I'll need to come back later. I inform them that I've come 50 miles and want to handle this today. The sales person calls again and I get the manager or the assistant manger named Jake to come down and speak with me. I tell him what Yakima had told me to do and that this would be an easy fix for everyone evolved. As I'm talking with Jake its obvious that he's not too interested in helping me but I coerce him to make the call to Yakima about the carrier. Jake leaves and in about 10 minutes comes back and tells me that he called and the call went to hold and he waited awhile then hung up. ( I believe he lied ) I get home I call Yakima and tell them what has occurred at Dick's and ask about a call being put on hold for a lengthy amount of time since all of my calls have gone straight through when I called them. I'm told that all calls are taken within a very short time. The Service Rep at Yakima tells me to take the carrier and the Dick's receipt to another dealer of Yakima products in Overland Park, Kansas. Have them call Yakima and they will make the authorization for the new Skybox carrier. I take it in to this other store on Monday about 3:30 PM and by Friday afternoon the new Skybox is at this store for me to pickup. DICK'S Sporting Goods S-cks. read more
