Everyone is always friendly and wiling to offer to help. I was deciding which energy chews to buy and one of the staff recommended a few varieties for me. After having numerous bad experiences at the Irvine Dicks I only go to sports authority or chalet but out of desperation (lack of time) I popped into the Newport dicks to pick something up. The staff is so indifferent to their customers and just plain NOT HELPFUL. don't expect to get any help in finding an item or even a hello when you walk in. You can stand there waiting forever and they won't open up another cashier but will just hang around the registers looking indifferent. read more

I went here for hiking waterproof shoes that I saw on their website. I ended up fitting the Merrell Hiking Waterproof Shoes. It was hard to find help. Until, I found one and I asked one of the employee if he could check to see if they can match the price of REI. They said they couldn't so I went somewhere else. It's shocking that they didn't match the price because I would've given them Business instead of their competitor. The shoe department need major organizing. read more

I come here pretty often for my sons baseball gear, running shoes & work out clothes. They have a good selection of good brands. The staff is always helpful when I have questions. The prices are decent, you can get a deal when stuff goes on sale. It might not be a discount store, but at least the brands and quality of what they sell is really good. I have looked in some discount sporting goods stores and they always have weird, off brands and the quality is questionable. I will be back again soon. read more

After my big disappointments trying to locate some Laker Championship hats and shirts (locker room version) at the Tustin and Laguna Hills stores, I arrived at the NPB store at 6:00 PM and they were also sold out. However, this store is nicer, and larger, and I was clearly told that they were getting shipments in the next day and to come back. The next day after again being disappointed at the Tustin and Laguna HIlls stores in the morning, I finally had some luck and scored on the hats. This store is better stocked. The hats weren't locker room style, but actually look better. I am happy with this store, and of course you pay a premium because it is in Fashion Island. The displays are nicer, and there is a larger selection and well-stocked. read more

This is a great location compared to the one in Vegas. The store was neatly put together and the staff all seemed to be working and not messing around! I was greeted by many different staff members who all made sure I was finding everything OK with smiles on their faces. Bought a Baseball glove and had it steamed. Ian spent a solid 10/15 mins working the glove in and getting it ready for steaming. After the entire process the glove was soft and ready to go! Highly recommend the glove steaming and customer service here. I tried to hook Ian up with a tip for his excellent work, but he turned me down. Senior management should check out reviews on Yelp and go to work to hire qualified, enthusiastic sales staff, or hire management who care. From the time we walked in, no one ever said "r u looking for something special?" "May I direct you to....". It was like pulling teeth. Tons of really good merchandise, but a total absence of qualified help. The two guys in the shoe department (I had to return one pair of shoes and search for another pair)... these two guys didn't know their merchandise, didn't know ANYTHING about selling or shoes. Bought Nike shoes for $80. I asked a staff to get me size 10.5 shoes, but in the box, there were one 10.5 and one 11.5 shoes when I tried them on at home. The staff checked twice but I guess didn't realize that there were two different sized shoes in the box. read more

Went there this weekend for Nikes, Addias, and tennis balls. Got all three in one stop, so I was a happy guy. The customer service is great. Always greeted all throught the store. It's one of the few shops in NB I can go to for one stop sport shopping. Sometimes the sneaker department is a bit boring and missing out on latest trends, but I can usually find something I like. I went to purchase a pair of running shoes and Yvette in the shoe department helped me so much throughout the entire process as I looked for shoes that work for me and were in my budget. She checked on me throughout my time trying on shoes offering information about how shoes can change based on fabric and design year to year so they may fit a little differently - It was all very helpful. After purchasing I went home and after running a few days I was in more pain than I've ever felt and even had trouble walking. I bought the pair on sale thinking it would be a good compromise but I was wrong and now in extreme pain. I called the store ready to be told that I'd have to just eat the cost and get another pair, and had my explanation ready. I was calling to speak with the manager Narcy who had helped me check out with the original shoes but got Danielle who offered to listen to see if she could help. I went through my whole spiel and how the shoe manufacturer (Brooks) has a 90 day try them policy and that it says most stores will honor that. And before I even finished Danielle said she completely understood, was sorry to hear that I was in so much pain, and that she would be happy to help me return the shoes for a new pair. I was blown away, I even asked her if it was really that easy! I had read some terrible reviews online about this store but decided to try anyway and I couldn't be more happy that I did. Cindy was wonderful in helping with the return - And Danielle and Yvette were there to help with the purchase of the new shoes, which we did online as the least loud color option was only available there! :) The shoes arrived quickly and I'm already back to running and feeling great. In this day and age it's so rare to have such an experience and even though it's just running shoes, it was important to me and that was enough to make it important to the associates in the store. It couldn't have been more of an easy process and I am so grateful for all of the associates time and consideration. I wish everything was this simple and will for sure be back because of the great customer service I received. read more

I was shopping for a heavy bag so I called some stores. Dick's had a floor model, which they agreed over the phone to sell me. I went to the store to pick it up. First they wanted twice the price Target charges for the same bag. Second, the salesman (Jose) refused to sell me the floor model, saying that his coworker didn't work in the department and therefore didn't have the authority to agree to sell it to me (as if that's my problem). That was my first and last experience shopping at Dick's. I wrote to the CEO--who is also the founder's son--about it. He never got back to me. I understand he sucks $10 million a year in salary out of the company. That explains why he needs to overcharge for their merchandise and why he's too important to respond to customer complaints. It's a new economy, baby. Good luck with the crappy brick-and-mortar prices, service, and attitude. read more

I usually go to another Dick's Sporting Goods location in South Orange county but I was at my parents for Christmas and I came in here with my mom. The store is bigger than the one in Ladera Ranch I think. If you want to buy workout clothes this is the place to come. They have a huge selection of Nike under armor, etc. for men women and children. They also have shoes but I feel like the shoe prices are a little bit overpriced. My mom wanted to look at the shoes but honestly the shoe section was so crowded and disorganized that she changed her mind. This store had a pretty big section of clearance items also and I was able to get a Nike shirt that was usually $30 for only $11. We did not interact with any of the employees except the one that checked us out at the cash register and she was pleasant. Even though there was a long line we did not have to wait very long to get checked out. I wish that their rewards program was actually worth something and rewarded you for something because I feel like I give my phone number every time but I never get anything back....oh well. Regardless this is a solid place to buy workout clothes and anything fitness related. Sometimes they send out coupons in the mail for $10 off a $50 purchase or something like that. I have never used one but but I do know that we receive them in the mail every once in awhile. read more

I recently returned a golf club that I hadn't used to Dick's in Newport Beach. I paid for the club with a debit card and a $10 gift certificate that they gave me for being a loyal customer. I received cash back but not the $10 because they are not allowed to refund the loyalty bucks. Nice loyalty program!! Going forward, I will buy my golf equipment at Roger Dunn's where the return policy is much more conducive to customer service and the selection of merchandise is far greater. read more

The store is great but service is non existent. I love the way they greet you and then that's it. The managers are walking around with headsets talking to themselves never helping the customer. The knowledge is a joke as they pick up the product like they have never seen it before.It seems to me they are trying to drive everyone to the website for an online experience only. Wow, how very sad! No one on sales floor to be seen but *one* apparel employee- Heather, I think her name was? She was wonderful and assisted us with no hesitation. She even went out of her way to find an item that was limited and provided exceptional service. To be honest, I would only go back there for her service, because apparently she's the only one running the store!- and I have been shopping there for years. I eventually came across 1 or 2 associates who were standing around doing essentially nothing- as if bouncing a ball around and chatting was part of the job. Poor thing...shame! read more

I went there to get a Fitness Ball for my wife. They have two on display one large one small. They have two sizes to choose from. Logic tells you the one on display are the ones to choose from. I buy the small because ours ripped, and its the wrong size. They were out of the medium but left display up with smalls everywhere. THen I asked for my receipt and the cashier tells me it is in the bag, guess what when I get home what wasn't in the bag.... read more

Had very bad experience yesterday trying to return a baseball cap my disabled son bought 5 days earlier because after wearing it one day, it made a red mark on his forehead. Even though we had the receipt and debit card he used, the manager gave us a very hard time because we didn't keep the tags. We will never go back to Dick's again. read more

Again, terrible problem with returning an item to Dicks. After my last experience i would never shop there again but my husband ordered a swim parka from them online for me. The zipper broke after 2 months of wear. They could not retrieve my order even though i had the receipt. The manager finally called their customer service number after 30 minutes. I have to ship it back. Cannot return in store. Honestly Dicks -PLEASE empower your employees to do whats needed to keep customers. No doubt they hate working there because they have no power and your systems and policies are horrible., cant keep customers or employees with such miserable circumstances.
